I never considered getting a staph infection on the road, boy would that freakin suck! I always keep my nasty/wet clothes in their own bag separated from everything else.. one particularly useful trick I learned from Scotty, in good weather you can tie wet clothes to the outside of your luggage and have them blowing in the breeze to dry them out and freshen them up!
How can you stand that scratched up face shield on your helmet?
For safety sake, please replace. Lol
Lomo waterproof bags from Scotland, much better and cheaper than Oxford. If you can source one in US of course 😁

Long ride to Daytona......hope it's a safe ride.
You have a lot of weight you are carrying. Buy all of the books you own through Nook or Barnes and Noble Apps, so you can read them when you want on your phone. Buy a lighter chair (REI or Helinox), tent ( maybe tiger wall or copper spur). Enlightened Equipment sell some extremely light sleeping bags or quilts. Trade your Olympus Pot for a Bott (titanium). Buy one light weight tarp to carry inside your one heavy weight tarp. I like using a small cot made by Helinox instead of a pad. It is cooler in the summer on the cot. During winter I buy a blow up pad (4 rating) that will last about one season if you lay it on the cot instead of the ground. I find I use the cot in some of the more sketch motels where I don’t like the look of the bed. Bedbugs are a bitch. I like the Wolfman bags, but I had Northface that lasted for quite a while. That should reduce your weight by about 40 to 50 pounds. I like Outdoor Research snap down shirts (I carry 4) and Kuhl pants because they are lighter and dry really quick. In the winter I wear the Klim type suit. They (maybe Revzilla) sell motorcycle specific (Honda ST-1100) type tool rolls that could reduce your weight with regard to tools. I realize the cost of all of this adds up, but if you buy one or two items every 6 months, the weight reduction will save wear and tear on your bike. I am Scotty’s age and I have rode all through US, Mex, Canada, Alaska, Swiss Alps, etc. The older I get, the harder it gets to pick up a a fully loaded motorcycle so weight reduction has become more important to me. @@fa7842 The times I have been to Canada and Alaska I would stick to July and August but if you are on the Dalton or the Top of the World Highway near Chicken Alaska it is still cold and sometimes snowy even then. I rented motorcycles in Europe, and I found renting in France to be cheaper than Switzerland. I rented scooters in Israel, and Argentina because they have the lockable compartment and are easier to park and are easier to trade out with the rental company if something is wrong with the one you get assigned. Newfoundland is still cold even in July and the ferry from Nova Scotia takes about 8 hours overnight. These are just suggestions and each person can have very different parameters on how they wish to travel.

Shoe goo works for holes, put on inside and out.
Those Gore-Tex pants are on point!! I was issued them when I was in the army along with a jacket. Combine those with the Poly-pro thermal underwear (pants and shirt) you you’ll be comfortable in the wet and coldest of climates! They really are a life saver!
I had a KL are 650 that I commuted on I put Street tires on it, and Chicago brand plastic hard equipment case. I replaced the Doohickey. But the thing on that machine it was the worst until I changed it was the stock seat. It was a 97 year. I replaced the stock seat with a nice flat Corbin seat. Big improvement. I’ve had seven Corbin seats on different bikes I’ve had, the best one was The one I put on my on the Pacific coast. I commuted on that street for 24 years. Shaped just like a horse saddle. Not cushy, just shaped well..All the other Corbin seats I had were worse than the stock seat I had one on an ST 1100. Didn’t work. I had one on my Moto Guzzi v11 sport, that’s seat put my balls to sleep within 10 minutes because it had a hump right behind the gas tank that you sat on your junk, but it was stylish..
if you ever break plastic. Super glue is not the answer. My son has been into RC cars for over 20 years. He turned me onto some glue that they use in RC car World for gluing the tires to the wheels.. it’s called CA glue....
I had my second deer impact commuting to work on my Honda Pacific coast at 35 miles an hour. My first year impact was on my BMW K 1200 LT at 70 miles an hour. I hit the deer right behind the shoulder broadside. I coasted to a stop with no lights. Both untethered mirrors went straight to China. $5500 damage. I let the insurance company fix that one. I didn’t go down either time. Just Lucky.. so I bought a new panel right side of my fairing for my Pacific coast on eBay from a salvage yard. When I got it I had to have it painted by a body shop. So I had $400 in this panel. When I went to put it on the machine, my Pacific coast, I discovered that the salvage yard had cut all the tabs off instead of removing the screws to get it off the machine.. I ended up cutting the old tabs off the broken fairing and gluing them on so the replacement ones with CA glue.. not one of those tabs ever broke off for the next seven years until I sold that machine when I retired
talking about staff infections. I told you under my other screen name to use baby wipes you buy at Walmart or a dollar store. They’re antibacterial antimicrobial, they’re safe for babies. They don’t dissolve like toilet paper does. You can take a bath with them if you don’t have facilities available.
motorcycle consumer news did a test of how many CO2 cartridges you need to inflate a tire on a motorcycle. Do you need a dozen. So if you’re gonna use CO2 cartridges, like I said in one of my other videos, get yourself a Mexican Bandito ammo belt that they were across their shoulder loaded with bullets, load yours up with CO2 cartridges. You can’t get all the air out of a cartridge into your tire the further you go, you can only equalize the pressures. And as your pressure builds in the tire, you’re getting less and less out of each cartridge

Started working on a bike-toolkit video yesterday - good to see yours which is much more in depth than mine will be :)
Something to consider, when you're working on your motorcycle at home (oil changes, adjustments etc), only use the tools in your tool kit. This will help you review what you have and determine if you have what you need.
@@bradboustead1682 that is pretty important, even when it makes maintenance difficult. Only issue there is making sure ALL those tools get back onto the bike. On the road, it is easy to remember to gather all the crap on the ground :)

I have a pair of them gortex pants best rain and cold weather over pants I've found I wear mine over my jeans whenever its under 50 degrees and I'm riding

Joe. About your gortex pants...... you are really missing out by not utilizing them. They are virtually indestructible. I'm a x-military guy.just before I got out in 2002, I scored a brand new gotten jacket ( the counterpart to those pants you have). I have worn that jacket all year round everyday every week of every year since 2002. They do not fade from the sun. They are nearly water resistant. Pretty much tear proof. Mine is just now stelarting to show alittle bit of wear around the edge of the hand cuffs. This is 20 years of daily water brother. I'm in northwest west Indiana, just outside of Chicago. In the winter I wear a Hoodia under my gotten jacket and I'm good to -20F. In the summer it keeps the sun off my skin and works as a wind breaker. Your not preserving them by not using your gotten, your just letting it be dead weight.
Also, it has gotten very hard to run across any good military surplus gortex. Especially the right size. If you do happen across a pair of pants or jacket, they will be a very small size that nobody wears.

First and foremost-I recently ran across your channel and enjoy the content. It amazes me how you guys stay on the road and yet find time to produce these videos. Was wondering if you also keep a personal journal? You mentioned getting away form the fix-a-flat and switching to co2, instead of buying co2 cartridges (it would take several to fill a tire) look at the dynaplug mini compressor. It'll fit in the palm of your hand and it runs off 12v. I do carry a cpl co2 but mainly for backup. A mini bicycle hand pump never hurts as a backup to the backup and will easily slip into the corner of your side cases.

Use those Gore Tex pants. I have mine from the Air Force and they hold up pretty good. The jacket can be really warm with good under layers but it's down fall for you would be bulk in carrying. If you ever need more just ask around usually military guys have an extra after service that they will never use. I have also seen them for like 10 bucks or so at a thrift store. Also I really enjoy the videos. Keep up the good work.

Hi ya Joe. Good video on gear and storage. I noticed that your ST has a aftermarket windshield. I see a extra vent up above the bottom, what is that for? Do you know the manufacturer of that shield? Thanks for any info.
That's a Lee Bailey's Aircraft Plastic, out of production sadly but was a great windshield. The vents alow a certain amount to escape so less buffeting up top 😎

Furniture polish works very good for cleaning your windshield and your bike, it puts moisture back in your windshield, and all furniture polish is the same, so go to the dollar store and buy it there, the cans are skinny so they’re easy to carry, they’ll last a long time, and it works fantastic on everything I’ve ever used it on, inside of your car outside of your car your windows, same thing on your bike
