I did it how she did it. I didn't realise until the clock ended that you can just add them all lol. Sometimes when there's a solution that's TOO simple, the expectation of having to work one out can distract you.
@@MrSniperfox29 whenever a contestant picks all 4 large numbers. That means that if the target is around 250 that means you’ll be able to get to at least within 10 by adding them up as the four large added together makes 250

Less than 1 in 900. The target is any number from 100 to 999, but there's a chance that the numbers might add up to less than 100 making it impossible.
Most people in the comments genuinely enjoy doing the numbers and share their solutions with others. I do it too sometimes. There's even a whole subreddit for the number games, so I wouldn't say people do it to look smart tbh

Newsflash: no one is impressed that you can solve the numbers game in a UA-cam comments section since the whole point of it is to complete it in 30 seconds while under pressure in a TV studio. The games are all just basic addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, it's not impressive to be able to solve it, unless you do so under the above conditions.
Telling people you're not impressed that they manage to solve the easiest numbers game of all time without a time limit or studio pressure. I'm just saying no one would have had any issue solving this, regardless of time limit or pressure. Other, harder numbers games, sure. This one, no.
Trust me, even an easyish game is harder under the studio lights, letters and conundrums aren't so different as words tend to jump out at you but for some reason you find yourself doubting your method as you don't want to look a fool for completely ballsing up a game
@Nullifidian Thanks for that link, but the computer's a cheat - it keeps using powers (4^2, etc) which isn't allowed on Countdown, so I've won...but it won't have it
Not really. Assuming the numbers selected add up to more than 100 anyway, which they won’t do if you pick 6 small or even most 1 large selections. There are 900 possible target numbers that can appear (100 thru 999, and yes 100 has been a target number before so it is the lowest target number) so the chances of that exact target number being the sum of all the selected numbers (assuming it’s even possible) is 1 in 900. Obviously pretty small odds compared to some things but not what I’d call astronomical.
At these odds of 1/900 It's likely to crop up at least once if they play the numbers game 624 times or more with numbers totalling over 100 (even with the common selection of one large and five small you probably meet it half the time). Given that they play more than one numbers round per episode, and there are already more than 7000 episodes of Countdown, it's very likely has happened on other occasions (assuming the number generator and selection is genuinely random). This time they noticed but maybe if a more conventional solution was available it may well have passed unobserved (perhaps the presence of four large numbers makes it more likely for someone to pick it up).
Well, there's 900 different numbers, so that would be one in 900. But not every set of numbers will give you a sum higher than 99, so the odds are even lower.
