Making a Bushcraft Knife

  • 5:25 for the flawless stone washing technique. I designed this hybrid tanto/tactical style bushcraft knife so that it would be hefty but fit well in the hand. I chose 80CrV2 for this project because it's a high-carbon tool steel that contains chromium and vanadium. Those two additives make the knife extremely tough and provide excellent edge retention.
Hit me up in the comments for any questions. Also, if you have any tips or tricks I'd love to hear them!
    MATERIALS:
    - .110" 80CrV2 steel
    - Desert Ironwood
    - Black canvas micarta
    - G10 liners (orange, white)
    - Binding bolts
    - 3/16" SS pins

    Welcome to my channel!
I am a weekend warrior knife maker diving headfirst into this amazing craft. Join me as I create one of a kind knives, restore old and forgotten tools, and share fast-paced build videos of my newly acquired skills. My goal is to entertain but also to educate and share the specific steps I take to create something. I'm by no means an expert and I don't use fancy grinders or heat treat ovens but, with enough time and effort, I think anyone can make awesome-functional knives.

I found an old beater knife in my father- in-laws shed years ago that I recently started to play with. The steel is pretty corroded, the scales loose, and upon inspection the blade broken off. I soaked the blade in white vinegar to remove some of the scale, trimmed the handle to fit my hand better, and super glued the handle scales to tighten them up. The broken blade has an upsweep like a boning knife, so I round the broken edge over into a sheepsfoot. The reason I mention any of this is that it's a blast to use for carving without fear of damaging a custom piece.

That's awesome man. I absolutely love restoring old tools. Even better when you can take something old and broken and give it a new life.
