[high speed steel, 高速度鋼]
It is a special steel used for tools that cut metal materials at high speed.
The standard composition is 18% tungsten, 4% chromium, and 1% vanadium, which is a “18-4-1” high-speed steel.
It is also called highs for short.
It was first made in 1858 by R. Mersett, an Englishman, and in 1900 by T. White, an American made with chromium.
Previously, steel used in tools for cutting metal materials was quenched to increase strength,
but this was heated and softened due to the heat generated during cutting when cutting at high speed.
So, to prevent this from happening even when cutting at a faster speed than then, a new tool material was made, which was named high-speed steel.
The standard composition of high-speed steel consists of 18% tungsten, 4% chromium, and 1% vanadium, which is called '18-4-1' high-speed steel.
The previous tool steel was blunted below 250℃, but it was not blunted up to 500~600℃.

금속재료를 빠른 속도로 절삭하는 공구에 사용되는 특수강이다.
표준조성은 텅스텐 18%, 크로뮴 4%, 바나듐 1%이며, 이것이 ‘18-4-1’ 고속도강이다.
줄여서 하이스라고도 한다.
1858년 영국인 R. 머셋이 처음 만들었으며, 1900년 미국인 T. 화이트가 크로뮴을 넣어 만든 것이 많이 사용된다.
이전에 금속재료를 절삭하는 공구에 사용되었던 강(鋼)은 담금질을 해서 강도를 높인 것이었으나,
이것은 빠른 속도로 절삭하면 절삭할 때 생기는 열 때문에 공구가 가열되어 연화(軟化)되었다.
그래서 그때보다 빠른 속도로 절삭하여도 이런 일이 생기지 않도록 새로운 공구재료를 만들었는데, 이 재료에 고속도강이라는 이름을 붙였다.
고속도강의 표준조성은 텅스텐 18%, 크로뮴 4%, 바나듐 1%으로 이루어져 있으며, 이것을 ‘18-4-1’ 고속도강이라고 한다.
이전의 공구강은 250℃ 이하에서 무디어졌으나, 이것은 500∼600℃까지 무디어지지 않는다.

I have some burl very similar to that and I already shaped the scales before I realized I didnt stabilize the wood. Is there something I can finish the wood scales with to stabilize the handle for a kitchen knife?

Très belle réalisation que ce manche de couteau, un magnifique travail bien filmé. J'ai une question, pourquoi ne pas avoir réalisé une pièce de bois dans l'évidement du manche de couteau alors que vous avez fait une pièce de bois pour le talon du manche, il y a des risques de bulles d'air avec le remplissage par colle époxy, juste pour un gain de temps ? Aparte, puede que me equivoque, creo que la broca para metal que utilizaste en la madera, le falta filo, no debiera calentarse y botar humo al cortar madera, a menos que el filo no esté cortando la madera de manera correcta, puede deberse a que le falta filo.
¿Has probado la madera que usé?
Si no lo ha probado usted mismo, es mejor no adivinar.
Este árbol es tan duro que cuando trabajo con mis herramientas, desprenderá algo de humo.
He estado haciendo esto durante 30 años y no hay problemas técnicos.
Estoy seguro de que es la mejor forma.
Y el video fue editado para mostrar.
Mire el video, teniendo en cuenta que lo que ve no lo es todo.

Lo de mi comentario fue una sugerencia solamente, no leíste bien el comentario, dice en forma clara "puede que me equivoque,...", ademàs dice "creo que...", jamás hay una afirmación definitiva. Por otro lado, yo uso brocas de esas para perforar metal y no me sale humo, por eso parece raro lo que se ve, pero bueno, ya que es tu video, para què voy a sugerirte màs cosas. Por otro lado, estamos en una aldea Global, si publicas algo en internet, te van a llegar comentarios y sugerencias que no te gusten, así es la globalidad de las comunicaciones, te guste o no te guste.
