@@LLCool_A glad U clarified this for folks. I think Ur right that he produced, arranged, composed and performed all or most instruments up until about 1984 with Purple Rain. Such an incredible musician and multi-instrumentalist.
I feel Prince has always been an underrated artist, because people look at how eccentric he was instead of how good he was. He has always been one of my favorite, and his first album, which is a masterpiece, was the very first CD I bought back when CD players came out.
Ah C'mon man! You know Prince is one of the best guitar players ever my guy!!! He could also play, I think something like 15 other instruments like a boss
Prince's performance at the Superbowl was pretty legendary also. I was listening to the sports talk radio in Boston the next day and all of the sports jocks were shocked that Prince could play the guitar like that. I remember reading interviews with the stage crew where the mentioned they feared the band might get electrocuted because it was raining so hard during the performance.
You’ll learn. We will educate you . Start with Tom petty “you don’t know how it feels”. Jeff Lynne , ELO, “mr blue sky” then Steve winwood, Blind Faith, “can’t find my way home”.
and to think they were worried that Prince wouldn't play the iconic solo true-to-form. Petty fought for him to do it, and this is what happened. Absolutely iconic performance
Hell yeah, you better recognize Prince and his musical abilities! Indeed he is a legend if there ever was one. You could spend entire weeks learning about how incredible that man was.
The second guy singing with Tom Petty was Jeff Lynne. The leader of the group ELO. You should check out some of their music. I would suggest Don’t Bring Me Down and Mr. Blue Sky.
Yeah, Leo. Shit got *REAL* when Prince soloed. Such proficiency and musicality in that solo, and the little man didn't even break a sweat. He showed up, respected his fellow musicians (and George Harrison's memory) and laid down that effortless solo without tasteless showboating and guitar wankery. He sent his message to the people who doubted him, and it didn't take away from anyone that mattered. Prince was a class act.
Prince's range of talents was staggering! He played dozens of instruments, and played them well. Add songwriting skills, and a falsetto from hell! 👍 But make no mistake, he was showboating: *Showboating 101* That was not an organic performance. No 'just happened to be someone there to catch him and the guitar' accident. Pure Prince. 😉👍
@@DaP84 the others paid tribute to George with original tempo and melody. Prince paid tribute to everyone - George, the guitar in song title, and Eric. Performance was rehearsed or agreed upon by the whole band and George's son didn't appear to mind the showmanship, so no his performance wasn't all about himself it was about enjoying music and letting it take you on a journey; a belief George held and reflected when asked to describe his style or favorite genre.
@@djinnee1792 Don't agree, his poser rock god number didn't fit the theme at all. And I've read from several saying that the other members had no idea he was going to put on this one man show, that he was on rehearsals but was very held then. How else was George's son supposed to react when put on spot live like this? Also everybody saying that Prince's motivation for this was that he was pissed that Rolling Stones didn't put him in their top 100 guitarists list then, and wanted to prove them wrong.
I cant remember which famous musician said it but somebody said (I'm paraphrasing) "if prince wasn't known as one of the worlds greatest song writers and and innovative musicians he would have been remembered as one of its greatest guitarists"
I remember that too, although I also don't remember who said it. But here's one for you... Eric Clapton was once asked how it felt to be the world’s best guitarist. His response: “I don’t know. Ask Prince.”
I read that this was Prince’s reaction to being snubbed by the best guitarists list, not even mentioned. This is irrefutable proof that he was an instrumental genius. Also, I don’t know what it is.....but us ladies LOVE Prince! He was a swanky, sexy, confident man.
FAIR ENOUGH. I NOW see my comment could be construed to mean I, wrongly, thought they both wrote it :) You mentioned the lineup and I added Dhani who you did not mention and then I went on to say George wrote this. The 2 comments do not have any relevance ro each other. You are right it was 1968 and on The White Album.
Jeff Lynn is the guy with the glasses and the great voice. Something tells me you're about to falling to an ELO rabbit hole. Its a great hole to fall into!!! Witchy Woman, Mr. Blue Sky, Telephone, so many great classic songs!!!
Man, first of all, your outfit is on POINT 👍 There will never be another Prince. His death hit me so hard. I went into a month long depression, and cried for 2 weeks straight. It just, it broke my heart really. It hurt my soul. Such a horrible, needless loss of a true musical genius. The like of which we will not see again in our lifetimes. He was the Mozart of our generation, and many generations. He mastered 27 instruments and was an absolute virtuoso composer, vocalist, songwriter, musician and performer. What’s even more unbelievable, he never had one music lesson his entire life. HE WAS SELF TAUGHT ON EVERY SINGLE INSTRUMENT. Equally shocking he never had one vocal lesson in his life, he just naturally had a staggeringly wide, angelic vocal range and falsetto from the gods themselves; a voice that could break your heart, make you laugh, make you cry, make you dance, or sex you up, he could do it all with that angelic voice. But could also light a guitar on fire like the devil himself as we saw here. The incredible storytelling in his songwriting, his unique, creative, sometimes risqué sometimes tongue in cheek lyricism, and prolific musical capabilities are simply staggering. He released 39 albums in his lifetime. 39. And there are reportedly at least 50 completed unreleased albums still in his vault. In his earlier years, he was also quite the provocateur, pushing boundaries, taking risks, obliterating the confines of the conventional, breaking rules in every way possible from his performances to his musicianship and vocal style in the blending of genres, right down to his impeccable outfits, hair, makeup and heels. He was prettier than your girlfriend, but he could still take her from you with a wink and smile if he wanted too 😂 he wore his sexuality up from and center, and sometimes cut out in the back too 😈 😂 his unbelievable talent, abilities, and sheer musicality truly put him in a class all by himself. All hail the purple one, gone but NEVER forgotten. Because even though he’s gone, his music lives on. And at the very least, how great is that we were alive at the same time as the Mozart of many, many generations? Alive to witness firsthand, the one and only Prince, a true musical genius, in his actual time. Weren’t we the lucky ones 💜
Throwing his guitar at the end was a signature move for Prince, he once threw someone else's vintage Rickenbacker and nobody caught it! it smashed to the ground and was valued at $10,000 at the time, ouch
Most people don't realize what an amazing musician he was. I just sat watching your reaction thinking "oh just wait until Prince steps out of the shadow"
Prince is a master guitarist. He can play any instrument to top level. You cannot be screaming and making noise during a Prince solo. But I do appreciate your reaction.

Guitar heaven on earth....when good guitarists get on stage...that’s George Harrison’s( Beatles) son with them, he looks just like his Father. Tribute to George Harrison, he wrote the song. Jeff Lynne- sunglasses- ELO the band, Steve Winwood- ( plays keys and guitar- he’s on that Hammond organ you hear--Blind Faith, Traffic, Spencer Davis Group, and a solo career too. Talented and one of Eric Clapton’s friends too. 🎼🎶🎸🎸🎸🎹🎸🎸🎸🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥❤️😎🤘Prince had a tendency to just go.....I’m guessing they were prepared for that.....🔥look at the joy on Harrison’s face when Prince leans back....it’s beautiful ❤️
Was Steve the first solo ? :)
@@Isleofskye in life or at this show? Originally Eric Clapton.❤️
Hello Geoff.
Yes, of course, you are right it was Sir Eric, originally, but at this show M8...
@@Isleofskye nope not Winwood.....I recognize dude, can’t remember his name and I’m not using google, I usually write while listening. Prince is the solo for me at this show- in Eric’s absence.
Thanks Geoff.
I'm not giving him the satisfaction of looking him up either. It will retain an eternal mystery....
He's a Marked Mann as far as I'm concerned....or rather a "Marc Mann" :)
Next to Tom Petty you can see Dhani Harrison on acoustic guitar. This is a tribute to his late Dad, George Harrison of the Beatles. This is a great version of the Beatles song While My Guitar Gently Weeps written by George that they played at The RRHOF after he passed. Many of George’s close friends here.Though I love this version it is worth listening to the ultimate, the original by the Beatles with Eric Clapton on lead guitar. George, you are forever missed. 💙
Thank you for acknowledging Another Artist on that stage besides Prince! I don't care about any back story regarding the "throwing of a guitar into a crowd" it was impolite and arrogant. Jesus Christ, George Harrison's son was playing his dad's written song..show some respect and learn how to play well with others!
@@maryhuhnke8496 Mary, you need to chill out. I've never been a huge Prince fan, but he rocked it on this song.
@@ruthylopez Prince definitely rocked it, but I also get Mary's point given the occasion, not to mention the number of transcendent legends that blazed the trail for Prince who were on that stage with him.

God, yes, ICONIC!
Prince it's gonna rain, I'll be there.
Baby, the rain showed up for him AFTER he started playing!
You are assuming Prince is just a lowly human being. Big mistake darlin.
Love the way he keeps smiling 💜☮️ he knows he’s badass........
Prince could play 27 instruments. All SELF taught. He truly was a legend indeed.
George, Tom, Jeff, Bob Dylan, and Roy Orbison were all in The Travelling Wilburys
Prince plays all the instruments. He literally plays all the instruments on his albums.
This. I believe he played every instrument and arranged the music on his first few albums until either 1999 or Purple Rain.
@@LLCool_A glad U clarified this for folks. I think Ur right that he produced, arranged, composed and performed all or most instruments up until about 1984 with Purple Rain. Such an incredible musician and multi-instrumentalist.
Great great guitar 🎸 playing Prince
if you want to make all the money, you do it all yourself....it's easy.
I feel Prince has always been an underrated artist, because people look at how eccentric he was instead of how good he was. He has always been one of my favorite, and his first album, which is a masterpiece, was the very first CD I bought back when CD players came out.
Prince was a badass. Never really made the type of music I'm interested in, but I really admire his skill. His legendary status is well deserved. RIP
Your about to experience what the word “underrated” really meant/ means! SURPRISE!! 💜💜🙌🏻🙌🏻
#FACTS
Absolutely 💯!!!
Ah C'mon man! You know Prince is one of the best guitar players ever my guy!!! He could also play, I think something like 15 other instruments like a boss
29 instruments...he was a master and genuine genius! Sorely missed.
At the age of 16 he could play 20 instruments. I'm 50 and can't even handle a triangle :P
You gotta see more Purplr Rain era Prince. Excellent guitar work. Love how he struts across the stage like a rooster in this video.
On the far end stage left is George Harrison's son Danhi.
and to think they were worried that Prince wouldn't play the iconic solo true-to-form. Petty fought for him to do it, and this is what happened. Absolutely iconic performance
I love a man who can shred a guitar while wearing high heels. I mean this from the bottom of my heart.
Hell yeah, you better recognize Prince and his musical abilities! Indeed he is a legend if there ever was one. You could spend entire weeks learning about how incredible that man was.
The first guy you didn’t know was Jeff Lynn of ELO fame.
He got to do some E.L.O now he knows who Jeff lynne is !! 🤗😊😎

Gotta do ELO. Jeff Lynne was amazing.
Is there anyone cooler than Prince? Answer: No.

Well.... maybe Bowie. He might be close. Lol

Yesss! Great idea!
Yaaaaaaaaaass!!!!
Winwood is a musical genius, check out "Higher Love" and "Dear Mr. Fantasy"
Interviewer to Eric Clapton: what’s it like to be the best guitar player in the world?
Clapton: ask Prince.
WOW!
The reaction on the guitarists face watching Prince fall back and being caught...I love it!!!!
The kid on the left side of Tom Petty is George Harrison’s son
He looks just like him.
Oh!!! This is one of my all time performances and Prince performance all rolled up in one. Actual legends being legendary.
The second guy singing with Tom Petty was Jeff Lynne. The leader of the group ELO. You should check out some of their music. I would suggest Don’t Bring Me Down and Mr. Blue Sky.
I think he'd love "Don't Bring Me Down"
I think Jeff Lynne has such an amazing pure voice. Just so talented.
Mr blue sky 💙 🎶
Yeah i agree ELO Dont bring me down
"Livin' Thing" as well.
Oh honey. The guitar is just the beginning. He dripped talent from every pore.
The look on Tom Petty's face is priceless.
But also some nooby choices of improvised licks here and there
Prince's range of talents was staggering! He played dozens of instruments, and played them well. Add songwriting skills, and a falsetto from hell! 👍
But make no mistake, he was showboating:
*Showboating 101*
That was not an organic performance. No 'just happened to be someone there to catch him and the guitar' accident.
Pure Prince. 😉👍
@@sv3931 yep, he made it about himself, when it way a tribute to George
He was pissed that Rolling Stone Magazine didn't put him in the top 100 guitarists, meanwhile he's in my top 25.
Yes, Prince showed up and showed OUT proving Rolling Stone Magazine had made a definite error!
He had to make it about him when this was a tribute to George. Classy
For anyone else I'd say this is pure arrogance, but for Prince not to be in the top 100... what

I read that this was Prince’s reaction to being snubbed by the best guitarists list, not even mentioned. This is irrefutable proof that he was an instrumental genius. Also, I don’t know what it is.....but us ladies LOVE Prince! He was a swanky, sexy, confident man.
Prince played every instrument on his first 2 albums. He’s an underrated musician, especially when it comes to guitar.
Winwood, Petty, Lynne, Prince.. what an ethereal lineup.
George Harrison's Son and Geirge wrote this :)
@@Isleofskye How exactly when the song was released in 1968 and Dhani wasn’t born until 10 years later?
FAIR ENOUGH. I NOW see my comment could be construed to mean I, wrongly, thought they both wrote it :)
You mentioned the lineup and I added Dhani who you did not mention and then I went on to say George wrote this. The 2 comments do not have any relevance ro each other. You are right it was 1968 and on The White Album.
@@Isleofskye Because I do not find Dhani a great musician. He’s ok but certainly not his father.

Prince is a musician....period.
You’re right, Prince is an absolute legend. He had it all, and made it big because of his extreme talent and charisma. He is truly one of a kind. RIP 🙏
This was so badass of Prince, I saved it so I can watch it any time I want. I've probably watched it 20 times since I found it about a year ago. I adore Prince and miss him!
