This was an All Star tribute at the "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame" after the induction of George Harrison as a solo artist. George had previously been inducted as a member of the Beatles. George died from cancer a few years prior to his election as a solo artist. The guy with the high pitched voice is Jeff Lynne the lead singer and main creator of the group The Electric Light Orchestra (ELO). ELO was huge in the 70s and 80s and might be a good rabbit hole to explore. George wrote this song and the beatles releaseed it on their album "The Beatles" which was known as "The White Album" in 1968. Eric Clapton, as an uncredited guest musician, played lead guitar on the Beatles version while George sang lead and the higher vocal harmonies were performed by Paul McCartney.

You can't learn about music without listening to the Beatles. They are the most influential band in history. They changed everything in the music industry.

Agreed. I haven't seen you do a deep dive on any Beatles songs yet, and they were absolutely iconic in changing music. Maybe more so than Elvis. Yesterday is powerful. A Day in the Life. Come Together. Let it Be. Penny Lane. Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.
They had several 'stages'. Early stage was the bubble-gum simple songs. Then they got deeper/angrier. Then they got spiritual/hippie. All are great.

Jeff Lynne and Tom Petty (deceased) along with two other music legends Roy Orbison (deceased) and Bob Dylan formed The Traveling Wilburys taking on fictional personas and producing several albums. Prince is our Mozart, he mastered over 14 instruments by age 17, he could dance, sing any note, rap, he wrote, arranged, performed ALL his music, including wrote hits for other artists, he has covered almost every genre, Metal, Punk rock, hip hop, pop, r&b, soul, jazz, blues, country, ambience, classical, instrumental. The Multi-Genre God. He could play anything, and your favorite artists have been deeply influenced by him. Corey Taylor, Whitney Houston, Steve Vai, Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Lil uzi vert, H.E.R. , Paul Mccartney, all worship Prince to just name a few.
Prince recorded his first 2 albums at 16 all by himself, all instruments, lyrics, arrangement, composition, production & vocals were all by him. He was such a prodigy, that music executives wanted proof, they would fly across country just to see if he could really play all instruments, because it was so unheard of. Prince has over 50 official released albums and when he passed, they found over 10 thousand unreleased Prince music in his vault. He then came into the business and was the FIRST to fight for artists rights, and he WON. He would write "slave" on his cheek and go to meetings protesting against the industry. Prince was also the first artist to sell his music on the internet. You are talking about the most talented artist we will ever see.

Prince was special. His talent was amazing. There are people who have listened to everything he's ever done, know every word and musical phrase by heart and when we would see him in concert or get our hands on a new album, he would continue to surprise us every single time. His versatility was unmatched- he lived and breathed music- not genres not any one specific grouping, he just made music because he was called to do so. I think him being so shy and not always easy to understand as a person put people in the biz off, he was given bad wraps a out things. But he never looked at making music as something that would make him a better human, he was himself. Someone who just loved to play at the end of the day.
Thank you for your reaction! It's beautiful to see you on the journey! 💜

While they were rehearsing this song for this performance, the lead guitarist for ELO took the solos and played them note for note like the original without letting Prince play at all. The showrunner was getting mad and Prince told him not to worry about it and that he would play the final solo in the performance. He never played anything in the rehearsal so no one knew what he was going to do. It's why he stayed in the background until his time. To go along with this, Prince had been snubbed by Rolling Stone by not making their list of Top 100 guitarists. This performance shows that he's definitely deserving of the honor. If you want to see another of his amazing performances, check out his full Super Bowl performance AND the behind the scenes video....

I may get flogged by die-hards for saying this, but 'PurpleRain' and the 'BATMAN sountrack' are right up there with 'Sign 'O The Times' for me.
The first because it tells the story of my teens (pretty much). The secong because it's all over the place and playfull - I just have the biggest smile on when done with this soundtrack 🙂
SO glad that I was fortunate enough to witness him live before he passed away ... R.I.P. my beautiful one

One of the best collaborations ever. It's amazing how George Harrison's son (acoustic guitar) looks so much like his father. It's originally a Beatles song. I grew up with the Beatles, and it's amazing to think that none of the Beatles knew how to read or write music.

:Supposedly, Prince didn't show up for rehearsal, so the group wasn't sure if would show up for the performance. So a lot of the looks at Steve was Prince making sure he could continue with the solo. This was also after right Rolling Stone's 100 greatest guitarists issue and Prince wasn't listed at all, and many felt Prince was disrespected. This performance was probably a middle finger to the magazine .

  • @sonofthesea3298
    @sonofthesea3298 Рік тому +3

As a guy that holds Prince the highest of any male solo artist,i love this reaction! (sure,he had his bands over the years, but he was in the front and being focused on,the bands were simply to back him up) I even got teased and even bullied for loving his music so much, while also calling myself a metal head and being heavy into Metallica,so over the years i changed my attitude around. I only say that im a music lover now,and if people still ask what im listening to,im like "abit of everything!". I still identify as a metal head, but i listen to all kinds of music,it just depends on the mood and day.
I never buckled under pressure, and i have to admit i loved Prince`s savage way of stealing this performance. Many called it a disrespect towards the other artists, and i seem to remember someone getting heated over how he pushed his guitar solo on and on,i believe some of the other performers went into abit of a "okay, now you are just overdoing it Prince!" type of mind lol. But Prince did it for a reason,he felt underappreciated for his guitar skills,so he wanted to prove himself to whoever ran thoose lists.
You know Prince is fed up if he tosses the guitar, all sassy and savagely, and just walks off the stage with that "diva strut". 🤣I did not see eye to eye with alot of his opinions etc,but i managed to look past it and i still loved him as a performing, singing, composing, writing genius!
Prince was going in on Michael Jackson, and Michael teased him back on any opportunity he got. But when Michael Jackson died, there was a story of someone knowing Prince. I cant come up with the name now. I think he went up with Prince on a roof somewhere, where they would just sit and talk and admire the landscape, great view they had. I think Prince watched at the stars at one point, and this person said Prince would NOT stop talking about Michael in a complimentary way. He just poured his soul about the loss of Michael and how great of a musician he was. So it was a rivalry there yes,but Prince had the outmost respect for Michael and cared for him. So a friendly rivalry more then anything,Prince wanted to overtake the throne from Michael,he wanted to have the same success and more,he had great goals for himself, but deep inside there was no grudge or hatred at all from Princes side.
Prince looked at Michael as a track and field sprinter look at his teammate,in a relay run they are buddies but in solo sprints they want to beat eachother,be faster and better then the other.
So in many ways,MJs fame was the absolute inspiration and motivation for Prince. And that lead to Prince making Purple Rain and actually bypassing MJ for the first time.
Many good documentaries on YT about thoose 2,i think 1 even includes Madonna.
Prince actually locked himself in for days, calling off his own rehearsal and sent his bandmates home, after he heard about MJs passing. And i just looked it up real quick,it wasnt a celebrity but a close friend of Prince actually,Tavis Smiley. I recommend this documentary for you Britt: Prince on His Rivalry with Michael Jackson! Candidly In His Own Words | the detail.

What a mix! Probably the only one that could dance at Michael Jackson's level back in the day. He did it all and thank God we have the music to remind us of that. The Beatles were master songwriters Britt. The reason you love the part with the lyric "I don't Know Why-i-i" so much is because the song changes keys from A minor to A Major during that part. The Beatles(John Lennon, Paul McCartney, and George Harrison) were absolute masters of songwriting, lyrics, and melody. This is a song George Harrison wrote.
