Hey bud, just 1 simple question, I can't find anyone to give a answer to yet, on a like for like settings in game with the headset at 90hz max res what is the difference in performance in acc please, I'm very keen on one but where I'm from its very expensive and returns only accepted on default items so can't find out for myself. I know we don't run the same systems etc, but a like for like comparison will still give an indication of how much difference there is on headroom etc

For those on a tight budget, the Pico 4 is worth a look as well. I have an Index, Pico 4, and just got a Quest 3 a couple of weeks ago. The Quest is my clear favorite, but for Sim Racing the Pico 4 isn't far behind with it's own pancake lenses.

For me, I didn’t really appreciate it until I tried it. The pancake lenses make HUGE difference, you aren’t concentrating on a sweet spot, the whole picture is beautiful. For anyone on the fence, do it, you won’t regret it.

After watching a few other videos of yours on the Quest 3 VR headset, I now own the Quest 3 plus I got a 3rd party better head strap. The visual qualities and sweet spot are so much better than my Oculus Rift S which wasn't bad, just had lower resolution. The Rift S is still my backup VR headset because it too has a nice wide sweet spot throughout the entire lens.
Right now setting up all my racing games for the Quest 3, so far so good.
Thanks for your videos. Take care.

When I switched from the Q2 to Q3 I noticed an improvement in visual quality but it didn't feel ground breaking at first. But when I was readying the Q2 to sell it off I was pretty much shocked about the difference. It's massive. Also, with the Q2 I was fine with some fixed foveated rendering because the lenses blurred the edges anyway, but with the Q3 it's an absolute no go. I notice it immediately e.g. when I have to bend down in Beat Saber. I think with the Q2 (and the Rift before that) I got used to always turning my head to get the best image, but with the Q3 I obviously very quickly adapted to turning my eyes instead like in real life.

I got my quest 3 a few weeks ago thanks to this video convincing me to upgrade from quest 2. It really is a big upgrade. The clarity is so damn nice. I went all in AMS2 recently and did a simulated Lemans race with 4 classes for an hour. It was so damn beautiful with the sunset and blinding light down the Mulsanne straight. My only complaint is it still doesn't get dark enough for night. There is that white haze that's been around on all the older headsets.

I utterly enjoy Q2 for 2 years so far, mostly flight simming and driving ETS2/ATS, it's amazing even with fresnel lenses. I use link cable and max resolution in oculus app (5408px), it's quite ok. Can't imagine how Q3 looks at max res.

Great video mate, first one I have seen with some direct comparison to the Varjo Aero (which I am using). The thing I love about the Aero is how it automatically sets the IPD, is there any calibration or tool that helps you get that right on the Quest 3 given it is manual IPD?

@ GamerMuscleVideos, I have a Question)...before I buy the Oculus Q3, What is the known min/ideal spec of PC to run these racing games you play on the Q3 headset....? Ive seen loads of videos claiming this, that, and the other..!? So, I'd like to know what you think or believe is adequate for a visually acceptable experience please 👍
As I currently have the i5 9600k with EVGA 1080Ti and I play them all on a Curved 1440p no problems. Ive recently bought the 3080 FE ready for the jump to VR racing only.

For VR you always want as fast as possible , but to get things to look nice with no issues and ok settings I think 3080 is probably good.
      I'm on 3080ti , I kinda would like even more 😆.
For non Sims 1080ti would be fine as most pc VR stuff was optimized for that spec.

I've been using VR for sim racing for over 5 years now. I started with a Rift, moved to an Index. The Quest is cheaper, and apparently, the new version is pretty good visually. It's a great choice to "get your feet wet" with VR. For me, the battery makes them disposable in the long-term, and the software is trash.

Hey not sure if you already bought a Quest 3 but I'm running a 3060ti with an i5-8600k with 16GB of RAM. I just go the quest 3 a month ago. It runs really well in AC/AMS2. In AMS2 I am running a lot of the options on Ultra. I ran an hour race around Lemans yesterday with day/night cycle and 31 cars in 4 classes. I had the rare slow down, maybe 5 times in the race but it was just a blip and over. Usually when I'd hit a curb to hard or at the start. I followed this guys settings - ua-cam.com/video/IjeDA4v6qXw/v-deo.html
I will say I can't run No Man's Sky on VR with the Quest 3 no matter how low I set the settings. I could run it on the Quest 2 if I remember right just on low settings.

The only main benefit I've noticed with the Quest 3 coming from a Quest 2 is a much larger sweetspot. Whether that is worth 500 dollars is for you to decide. Don't expect better image quality at the center. I disagree with the 1080p to 4k example in this video.

    • @GamerMuscleVideos
      @GamerMuscleVideos  4 місяці тому +2

      - Larger sweet spot
      - Edge to edge clarity
      - Faster performance and handling either VD link cable
      - Better Pass through on double tap and maybe AR features in future to see gear whilst driving
      - Less warping and distortion
      - Wider FOV
      - Lenses offer sharper image in centre
It's way more noticeable with good link cable settings , + oculus just dropped link update 👀👍

The quest 2 requires you to install sidequest lite (the advanced no longer works with res unlock for some reason) to unlock the true resolution of the quest 2, or higher, it is then very sharp indeed and close to the reverb 2 (ive heard). Out of the box the res of quest 2 is lowered to save on battery life. and run native games better. I use it at 2560 resolution when pc gaming, it will go to 3072 but gets hot doing it and is hard to run and is above its native.

I’m looking at upgrading from my Rift S. One thing I’m conscious of is the added possible headache of battery life that I don’t currently have to worry about. What is the battery life like with the Quest 3. Can you get 3-4 hours out of it and how long does it take to charge? Does usually by a link cable allow for much extended playtime?

    • @Sezon-xn9lp
      @Sezon-xn9lp 4 місяці тому

      Hi
I just bought the quest 3 after using the rift S for 4 years. I had the exact same question in my head before buying. I call myself a veteran in VR as I started way back with the DK2, and since then I only used tethered VR due to long sessions and did not want to see compression artifacts either!!! I tested the quest 2 as my brother has it and I was not happy with the results so I stayed with the Rift S. Now this quest 3 is very impressive, amazing picture quality in every possible way compared to Rift S, contrast, colours, resolution, sweetspot is fantastic. So far I love it. I tried with Airlink and Link cable too. Airlink is good and enjoyable after dialing in the proper settings and the link cable is just mind blowing for me how good it looks regardless of it being compressed first and then uncompressed and displayed at the headset.
The only 1 thing is the latency... I am not sensitive for that or just simply not noticing it but it is a thing!!
As I say I do not mind the increase in latency. I do not notice it, I am still fully immersed with any game I play.
I am using the link cable GM recommends in his other video for the quest 3. I do not have a wifi 6e router yet so can not comment on that yet.
I do recommend the Quest 3 coming from the Rift S. Huge improvements. And then there is the augmented reality option too. I find that great fun too.
I am now playing Lone Echo (the first episode) as I last played it on the CV1 headset and WOW.. also replaying some of the other old original Oculus titles too. Vader Immortal, Robo Recall etc.
I have a simrig too so every now and then I jump in to AC or Automobilista 2 and it is just amazing.
The only thing I always saw in the Rift S is the actual pixel lines on the display itself. I could live with it but now there is literally no screen door effect with the quest 3.
I can run it 1.5x rendering resolution (total of 5408x2896) at 90Hz (settings in the oculus app).
Ryzen 5 3600, 16GB 3200mhz RAM, Rx 6950 XT, NVMe drive, Asus strix b-450-f gaming.

@@Sezon-xn9lp Thanks for the detailed reply. It's amazing that there is so little published info from meta in regard to this sort of question and their customer support wasn't that useful either. I would most likely be using a link cable for any PC driven gaming as I almost exclusively use my Rift S for iRacing.
In your experience, would the Quest 3 with a link cable allow for 4+ hours of use before requiring charge?

    • @Sezon-xn9lp
      @Sezon-xn9lp 4 місяці тому

      Hi
So I will do some testing this weekend because I am curious and it could be helpful for you too. I shall test how long can I play with starting from 100% charge and plugged in using the link cable GM recommended. That cable should charge the headset while playing and should not drain the battery I believe....BUT last night I started from about 90% with the link cable and after about 2 hrs of AMS2 It was at 59%. So I think I had the brightness of the headset at max. The other day I had the brightness lower and the headset actually charged up to 100% (from 70%) while I was playing (about an hour session).
I do more testing this weekend. 😉 let`s race @@DownToRace

The price of the quest 3 is largely the lenses not the compute.
Also it would still need battery and compute for WiFi and wireless which is clearly the direction for VR
Also meta make all there money from software sales and not the HMD , so it's literally cheaper it being it's own console.

Thanks a lot for this video!
I was kinda tempted to maybe buy a new Quest 2 for € 300, instead of getting the Quest 3 for € 550, because it's so much cheaper.
But i was already afraid i was gonna regret that decision and after this video i'm sure i will.
So i'm gonna save some more money and then buy the Quest 3 in a couple of months i think.
In the past i bought a second hand Rift (CV1 it was i think), but sold it quite quickly because i thought the resolution wasn't high enough, and i couldn't really run it at the graphic settings i wanted either with my Ryzen 5 2600 CPU + Nvidia RTX 2060 Super.
Now i have a 5800X AMD CPU and a Nvidia RTX 4070, should be a lot better experience with that hardware in combination with a Quest 3 i think.
Allthough i'm still a bit worried my 4070 is gonna be a bottleneck.

Agreed, the pancake optics in the Quest 3 are incredible, but also the updated XR2 Gen 2 chipset is equally very good, the extra power of this chipset makes the Quest 3's compression barely noticeable especially when using Virtual Desktop, when using the PC Oculus software with Link Cable, some tweaking of the settings (Oculus Debug Tool) is requires to make it look good for sim racing, more noticeable compression until you get the settings right.
Oh how I wish Virtual Desktop would have the option to use the Link Cable but unfortunately, it doesn't, so you are at the mercy of your wifi signal and how good and consistent it is.
As a comparison, I would have to say the Quest 3 is very close to the Reverb G2V2, distance clarity of the G2 is little better for me but the edge to edge clarity of the Quest 3 is unreal. :)
As with all HMDs, it's a matter of tweaking the setting for to what you want visually and of course your computer hardware limitations.
As for comfort, it depends on a person's head and face shape, for myself, the BoBoVR M2 and M3 headstraps get the Quest 2 and 3 into the sweet spot and keep it there whereas Elite style straps do not, I have to vice grip them onto my head and they still manage on slipping out of position. LOL

    • @juliantaylor1126

Surprised and disappointed to hear distance clarity is no better with the Q3 over G2. I have a G2 and happy enough with near view - was hopping Q3 would have better long view. But I gather because VR has a fixed focal range, distance is always going to get blurry no matter how high a resolution headset you have. Much more an issue in driving games where you are always looking a few hyndred metres up the track

to give you an idea the Rift S feels 40% better than the non S, and the quest 2 feels another 45% better than the Rift S...and now the quest 3 from what i can see there looks to be another good 50% upgrade over the quest 2...so yeah...yours is like an old 480p fat box TV compared to now what is a 4K tv for example.

why no one talks about input lag? I fear if it noticeable when you move your steering wheel and in headseat there is delay. Does anyone know can say if it's noticeable?

There's a way to "hack" the Oculus 2 with its debug settings to make it look waaaaaay better than stock settings.

i'm on the fence really, but i think i'll wait to see if they come out with a light version for PC VR only...till then i'll stick with my quest 2 for a little more.

They wont do a pc VR only one , meta make all there money from software sales and there whole development has shifted away from the PC side onto the headset side.

@@GamerMuscleVideosThe fact that Meta has PCVR as a very low priority for their users is a downside. Do I just wait another year for version 2 of a BigScreen Beyond, Valve Deckard, or a used Quest 3 for quest 2 prices? I’m on Quest 2 now and it’s good enough for PCVR that I can’t justify the upgrade yet.

Propaganda indeed! Most of it sounds correct, but I don't think most people have really properly tested out the quest 2. True, it took several weeks of tests to find the sweet spot, but I don't have the screen door effect or image warping on the quest 2. I think the eye strain problems come from running it at higher settings than your computer can easily handle, especially with a minimum setup.
Also, you said nothing about battery life comparisons. My quest 2 can go over 8 hours plugged in to the pc without a charge (with my settings). I heard you couldn't really go much more than 3 hours plugged in before needing a recharge. I'd like to see a test comparison of that, even though settings will affect the duration. I use 80hz, not 90 for racing games. Not as clear as 90, but no eye strain, and it runs much better and faster on my minimum computer setup.
I'm sure the quest 3 is much better, but proper info is also important.

You do have the image warping , you just don't notice it , it's literally baked into the lenses. Though quest 2 is better than rift S and CV1 , but the sweet spot is small easy to lose.
I bought quest 2 when it came out and have used it a fair bit.
Lots of people are finding quest 3 way more comfortable and less of a strain largely due to lenses and image sharpness.
Was using valve index today and the blur really does give strain.
I often run vr games at 144hz or 120 obvously not dropping frames.

@GamerMuscleVideos if, by warping, you really only mean the transition between the sweet spot and blurred edges, then ok, but I guess I'm so adapted to focusing on the sweet spot with head movement that I'm not aware of it. I'm not saying it's just as good as the quest 3 quality, though, for sure. I'd probably get one if I could afford it right now. Also, isn't battery life a fairly big issue for quest 3, even plugged into the pc? I've seen videos where they bring this up. The comparison was around 10 hours for quest 2 and 3 hours for the quest 3 (when plugged in with cable). Can you comment on that? What kind of comparison have you found in them that way?

    • @GamerMuscleVideos
      @GamerMuscleVideos  4 місяці тому

I believe warping is due to pupil swim / when you rotate head but keep looking at a specific object your eyes move relative to the lenses , they also.dont just.move left and right but in 3D space due to eye geometry and how eye muscles work.
The way an image is distorted on the screens to then be corrected by the lenses combined with the above aspect can cause things to warp and shift in shape when you move your head and look around a sceene.
Various headsets have delt with this to differing degrees.
Needless to say the larger the sweet spot is both up and down but also in and out the less distortion will likely happen ( though not always the case)
You can use a battery or link cable with power to make up for battery life which is definitely too low on its own.
