Karl, I appreciate your content. I'd very much like it if you did more demonstrating while explaining though. We rarely get to see you in the rig, or using any of the tech you relay your feedback and advice on. I do recall once upon a time you used to demo the gear more than you do now. Fot me personally, especially when talking about new tech, I like to see visual examples as well as explanations. Understandably, VR is hard to capture this, as it's all recorded in one eye, but still better than nothing. Just saying, and I may be in the minority, but if you're telling us a headset is good for sim racing as an example, it would be helpful to see it running, with performance stats etc. Thanks, Ryan.

I totally respect your perspective, but for me, it is the other way around. I know all the specs and information as well as how the products look from other videos. I mostly come here because throughout the years, I always find Karl's opinions are the most accurate ones, at least according to me. Most of the time, I don't ever watch the video, I just listen to him talk like in a podcast 😂

    • @exponentialbet6292

@@MegaIronica There is that of course, I agree, and also do the same when listening to his informed videos.. With his thoughts and visual examples though, for me that would work better. Case and point, he mentioned the new Quest 3 worked well in ACC using a 3080. With virtual desktop settings set a specific way. I'd say this is subjective, and if I could see it working well, the performance stats, and some gameplay, possibly I could then know where to troubleshoot if I was not achieving close to the same performance and visuals, with the same specs. It's impossible without knowing for sure, as much as Karl is trustworthy. The amount of time fiddling with settings that could consume, could be time wasted for a visual look that I may consider to be rubbish, but subjectively Karl may think is okay. You see my point.

I went from Q2 to Q3 for simracing. The biggest difference that i noticed why Q3 is much better is better edge to edge clarity/sweetspot of pancake lenses, lens do not fog up like in Q2, my forehead isn't sweating anymore. I could hardly race on Q2 for 20min because all those issues, on Q3 i can race for 1 hour without problem. Q3 is amazing.

I had almost every highend pc vr headset(star vr one, varjo vr 3,pimax 8kx,pimax crystal) The pimax crystal has the clearest picture but with alot off shortcomings for me.
I hated the warping on the sides off the lenses and the blooming in dark scenes..
It took me out off the immersion and those batteries needed when wired.. I sold it..
Now i have the quest 3 also and for the price its a no brainer... And the wireless is am
azing on a good highend pc setup with wifi 6e..
The clarity is amazing with some slight screendoor.. Also nice colors and brightness.. So you have great wireless, fun mix reality(wish the passthrough was better tho) and standalone gaming..
And the lenses are the best i have seen..This is a nice one too have till we get something better(maybe a new valve, and hopefully micro oled with a nice field off view)

Interesting...just goes to show how individual VR is. Personally I can only get 104 degrees FOV on the Q3 but I do get 112 degrees on the Crystal with the wide FOV lenses and 102 with the normal 35ppd lenses....and I agree with most people out there the Index controllers are the gold standard for VR controllers which obviously you don't like them. VR is so subjective and individual :) it's a real mixed bag and different experiences for different people. Keep up the good work though :)

After using the Quest 2 mainly for Standalone and the Pico 4 for PCVR for a year, i replaced both of them with the Quest 3. But especially for Standalone i would strongly recommend the Quest 3 due to it's much better performance. Some of my favourite games already benefit of the higher performance. I can play First Person Tennis VR in 120Hz at the highest resolution (x1.6 resolution scale, which is insanely sharp). Also i recently discovered Grid Legends, which got really bad reviews for the Quest 2, but now runs at 125% resolution scale at 90Hz on the Quest 3. Of course this is no comparison to a PCVR Sim Racing game, but it's a ton of fun for casual racing and the graphics are really decent now, especially for a standalone device.

Of course, most of your viewers will know the main differences by now. But it would be nice to hear what you think of the BSB's clarity v Q3 in PCVR.

My PSVR2 experience has been pretty enjoyable so far. I'd give it a solid 4 🌟.
Red Matter 2 is the absolute sharpest VR experience I've seen on the PS5 so far. This is the first game I finished on the VR2.
GT7 is my #1 VR game by far. I'm a daily driver, and I love it. The sweet spot is like the clitorus. It's illusive, but once you find it, it's game on!
My GT7 + PSVR2 + NLR GT Lite Pro experience has been amazing. I'm 100% IN the cockpit IN Japan or Italy. I'm nowhere near my livingroom.
GT7 in VR2 is like being with a beautiful woman. GT7 without VR2 is like a dry handjob.
Pavlov is amazingly scary to play. Situational awareness is a must. Violence of action is required. It definitely satisfies my (retired) military mindset. Play to win!
No Man's Sky is also beautiful in VR. This came isn't for casual gaming. It's a series time investment. But the experience is literally up to you.
All other PSVR2 games seem like demos and gimmicks.

I just sold my G2 after getting the Q3. In most gamesQ3 blows the G2 out of the water. However, in flight games, it is the other way around. While the clarity is much better in Q3 and almost everything else, like tracking, controllers, and FOV, the horsepower it takes the GPU to compress the signal does affect the performance. I run MSFS 2020 at Ultra + High settings, and with a 3090, I get 40-50 fps with the G2 using OpenXR Toolkit. However, this is because DLSS works great with the G2. It is not the case for Quest headsets. DLSS looks horrible in the Quest. So, I had to deactivate it and lose the performance boost. Now, I am running medium to high settings and barely getting 30 fps on the Quest 3. However, flight sim is almost the only exception. It must also have something to do with the fact that Microsoft the G2 is almost specifically to run MSFS, so it makes sense that it is more optimized for it.

I don’t think the question about PSVR2 vs Q3 is from people who don’t know how it works. This is my situation: I own a PS5 and I don’t own a good PC. Should I pay $500 for the headset for my PS5, get OLED screen but worse lenses, get better performance but less games, or I should opt out for Quest 3 and get better lenses, untethered experience, but slightly worse graphics. There are exclusive games on both platforms but also a lot of cross platform games. And why I understand pros and cons for both options, I keep thinking if I need to buy one or another

On quest 2, wired was such better quality than wireless however, I only noticed it on very detailed graphically intense games like cyberpunk(using vorpx or depth3d).
I think it's because the image is compressed more losing more quality. Probably using lossy compression. I was using 5 ghz speed. The image looked muddy but interesting the muddy effect was in the same places in the 3d world. As if the same textures were always compressed the same. Probably need to compare to a wire that allows for higher speed than wifi or else what you are saying is true.

The downsides of standalone headsets (and PSVR2 for that matter) is the extent to which they lock you into their ecosystem via your library. They really are consoles in that sense. Quest 3 has a larger library of course, but I imagine if someone had an extensive Pico library that might be reason to wait for the 5 rather than jump to the Quest 3. Of course Steam is the most open platform, so if you mostly use PCVR via Steam (on Pico, Quest or any PCVR headset) it's much less of an issue. One of the reasons I buy almost everything on Steam, although mixed reality might change that if it's only available standalone (Standalone is why I bought Demeo on Quest instead of Steam despite it being slightly more expensive. Although it's crossbuy, so I can play it on Oculus PCVR anyway).

As usual, your videos are great, Karl. However, I would have to disagree on something. Wired Link doesn't only improve latency. It also boosts the bitrate and that makes a huge difference. We know now that you can increase the bit rate to up to 940 on the debug tool. However, the software doesn't allow you to type it in. You have to copy-paste it in the debug tool. It makes sim racing and flight sims much much better with considerably less compression.

I don't play stand alone games just pcvr and the Pico 4 coupled with the new gpu and VD , it works pretty well. Always looking for that extra vr clarity I've researched buying a Quest 3 , seems to be differing opinions where the Pico 4 is concerned, some say the Quest 3 is no better and some say it would be a small improvement over the Pico 4. I'm still torn as £479 for the Quest 3 is a sizeable chunk of dosh, then I will want to change the headstrap, another £100 plus !! Then a charging dock for another £129. All very nice but is the improvement nearly £700 worth ??

Orher people say Q3 has way more pronounced screendoor effect and due to diagonal pixel/screen placement way more jagged edges. I would love to upgrade to Q3 from Pico 4, but it seems to be much much smaller (if any) step up compared to upgrade from Q2 to Q2 or Q2 to Pico4. Meta should have released Q3cinstead of Quest Pro, then it could have been a wise move. I'm waiting for something new from Valve or Pico 5

I am new to Virtual Desktop and the Quest 3. I am curious how you get such a low latency. VD reports me at around 43 - 50 ms. I am using a 6e router that only has my PC, the quest 3, and the iPhone on the 6e band. On 5 it is thee same. Do you think it is up to the router? I am using AV1 at 200. To the person that his Quest 3 is unusable wirelessly, I am almost certain the reason is that something is overriding your encoding bitrate. I had the same problem where with wire everything is fine but on air link it is like a PowerPoint slide show. Turns out if you increase the bitrate in the Debug Tool or Oculus Tray Tool, it could override it on air link as well. If you go over 200, it becomes unusable.

I upgraded from Pico 4 to Quest 3, and I'm glad I did. It just feels more polished.
And the kids love easy access to games, not having to use Virtual Desktop. They don't care about graphics. They wanna play Gorilla Tag (not in the Pico library btw). One thing I'll say is that the included headstrap sucks. But I can feel that with a better headstrap it'd be much more comfortable than a Pico 4. Can't wait for my BoboVR M3 headstrap to come in the mail. After that I see no real reason to upgrade my VR headset again until they make something like Apple's new VR headset for consumers, with games and controllers. I love the idea of the processing-parts and battery separate from the lenses and screens, being able to place the weight wherever on my body I want it. I've been hoping Meta would do this for years, but still they insist on planting it to our faces. I don't know or get why. Honestly sometimes the thought of having a battery taped in front of my eyes, or my kids' eyes, only being shielded by a thin layer of razor sharp lens-glass, isn't always the most comforting thought.
Just let us place the battery wherever we want. Drop the internal battery and include a 2-3ft USB-C cable for playing with the battery placed in a pocket/on your body or in a backpack or whatever, a 6ft USB-C cable for playing seated in front of your PC, a battery and a wall-charger..
I'll pay extra for you to do less work. You know what. You don't even need to include the 2-3ft cable or wallcharger. I'll use one from one of my old phones. Hell, drop the 6ft cable as well, people who wanna play on PC wired can buy that extra.
You know what. Just release a headset and a battery. We'll figure out the rest.

Why are people talking about the resolution? It's 95% the same as the Q2 for christ sake. The difference is trivial. Half Life Alyx is practically identical.
So comparing this to the Bigscreen Beyond is not right? Of course it is. Anyone asking that isn't asking about price they're asking about screen quality, comfort and controls; the same for PSVR.
So far, personally I have the Q3 sitting uncomfortable next to the Q2 which isn't that different. Yes the lenses are nice and clear but that's it frankly. I miss the rings on the controllers that make them easy to handle. Luckiy I have money to burn and will give the Q2 to a family but I strongly recommend if people have money to burn go for the Bigscreen if you don't mind tethered and some godrays.
