OLM Hi luma. Thank you for clarifying now it's clear. Btw i'm very happy i was finally able to put my hands a few days ago on the latedt frosty planet pack. Gonna try it out in the next few weeks!
Can't answer your question completely: At the Beginning of the (solo) episode 9 (not the movie) i have a skit where i show that i had to build a new PC cause the Power Unit of the old PC broke. So the PC from Episode 9 onward was: Mainboard ASUS PRIME Z690-P WIFI DDR4, Processor Intel® Core™ i5-12600K Graphics Card ASUS GeForce RTX 3060 Ti TUF GAMING OC V2 LHR RAM Corsair DIMM 32 GB DDR4 3200 MHz PC-Power Supply be quiet! @@Luma_plays I'm uncertain if the CPU and RAM speed/amount matters after a certain point in gameplay. I have 128GB of DDR4 PC4-28800 and an Intel i7-12700k and I still experience lag in ONI over time as I increase the number of dupes and planetoids discovered. It is what it is, and I view it similar to RimWorld: I'm amazed it runs as well as it does, considering everything being calculated.
Interestingly, that is actually a very difficult problem to solve from what I understand! The main stumbling block to using multiple threads with games such as ONI or RimWorld or any processing intensive simulation game which tracks, tick-by-tick, a large quantity of objects which are entirely unscripted, is that the single core ends up "fighting" subsequent cores as their solutions can conflict, as the entire program assumes a synchronous solution is being presented. When you have such a task split among cores, you can (and often do) end up having tremendous problems with race conditions (e.g. multiple cores want to read/write the exact same chunk of data, and the written data is not identical) and thread conflicts. It's similar to pathfinding issues, where you can have multiple valid "right" answers, and the cores can't resolve the issue without separating the workload at the very start. This means you either design things from the ground up to use a specific number of cores rather than defaulting to a single core, or you write an engine entirely from scratch to be as lean as possible. See Factorio for the latter, as it stands practically alone on that peak. Now that so many CPUs have multiple cores, even older still-used PCs have them, more and more devs are starting from the idea that multithreading is a good idea when writing an engine from scratch. The problem with that is, few games truly use an entirely original engine, and many modify UE or Unity or similar to their needs. Having an existing program, made by default to work synchronously, suddenly capable of splitting workload between cores and running asynchronously, is a monumental (although technically achievable) task. It is what it is!
