  • Today we explore Ollantaytambo, Peru. This has become one of our favorite cities in Peru, and throughout the next few videos, we will show you why. We visit some hidden gems of Ollantaytambo, things that tourists usually don't have the time to see or don't know that these places are here. We talk about Inka Watana, where the Inca people may have sacrificed themselves to the Apu, to the sun, and more. We see several ruins, archeological sites, and try some amazing food at Apu Veronica. Ollantaytambo is one of the coolest places in Peru. You have to see this place. This is the Ollantaytambo, Peru travel vlog.

    For those who are interested in the topic of polygonal masonry. A number of methods for obtaining the polygonal masonry are proposed. The basis of the proposed methods is the use of clay/gypsum replicas, a topography translator, and reduced clay models of the stone blocks along with a 3D-pantograph. The results are presented in the article: “Fabrication methods of the polygonal masonry of large tightly-fitted stone blocks with curved surface interfaces in megalithic structures of Peru”. UA-cam does not allow a direct link. Search by the article title.

      Thanks for that hint, I've never seen that paper before. It is fairly erudite and well researched, but I boggled at his (well, your) seeming assertion that the Inka masons used hardened steel sledgehammers, chisels, and crowbars. The Inkas used no steel at all; all their stone work was done with rounded river rocks of various sizes, called by Protzen as well as Gasparini and Margolies, "hammer stones." All told, it is almost as scholarly as Bonnaterre's "Rumimuqu: A Speculative Investigation into Archaeological Theory and Exegesis of a Persistent Autochthonous Topological Anomaly in Late Horizon Ashlar, Wanka, Cyclopean, Cellular, Coursed, Cushioned, Convex, Pitted, and Polygonal Masonry Construction in Ollantaytambo and the Lower Yucay Valley: The Stone Gnomons - What Are Those Bumps For?"

      @@RostislavLapshin I have the 2024 version 10 and it reiterates the use of the steel chisel and crowbar. The Inka left behind crowbars and at least one chisel; of bronze. Steel was not used, they did not have the bellows, nor is there documentary or artifactual indication that either were used in stonemasory, although I have to wonder how they did split rock to make roads.

      1.4. Historical, economic, political, civilizational and other aspects
      By the time the Europeans conquered the South America, the Indians did not know either iron tools or a wheel or a potter’s wheel, did not have draft animals, did not own the technology of brick firing, and did not possess a written language. ...
      The first towns in Peru appeared only when European settlers arrived there. The settlers brought the iron tools, wheeled transportation, horses, cereal crops, modern for that time weapons, agriculture and handicraft technologies, written language; established own laws, introduced money and commodity-money relations, built the roads and bridges; had ordered the religious beliefs of the Indians gradually; being the victors, they composed a nice history of Peru to form the nation state. ...

    The first two times there. I went by tour.. and I had just a few minutes to walk. The last time, I went without tour and I walked three hours and I was so happy.

    Another interesting video. My children like to watch them too. And you two deserved some time off, good decision. A couple of observations, the European invasion of the Inca Empire happen in 1532, the specific site that you showed, is much older than the Inca Empire. It was not interrupted by the European invasion. However, other parts of Ollantaytambo, were affected, so it depends on the specific location. The large stones, boulders, and so on, are older than the Incas. It is very easy to recognized in the constructions, which are Inca, and which are pre-Inca. Usually the megalithic, boulders that fit so well without mortar, are before, and the smaller ones, or repair parts, are Incas. Another observation, is that the Inca Empire was made up of many different ethnic groups, with many languages. The word Inca refers only to the emperor, not the rest of the people. The Europeans though that the native people were religious, since the Spaniards were, but that is a stereotype. You guys should read some literature on the stereotypes of Peru, a good book is by Jack Weatherford, called Indian Givers. Many people talk about the native people of Peru, based on their bias, and not in a factual way. People mix, or confused the Aztecs, and Mayas, with the Incas, which were different civilizations. Best wishes.

      @dianabejarano7102 3 роки тому +4

      Sorry if I am not the best historian but The Inca construction was really fine, an example is the Coricancha temple ( in Cusco city, under a Spanish construction), where stones fit perfectly beautifully, that probably is not open because of the situation. The Inca culture was characterised by assimilating other cultures, they didn’t end anything they acquired more culture, but probably some Incas were better than others like Pachacutec the constructor of Machu Picchu. And there were 14 Incas since Manco Capac until Atahualpa, and you are right the Inca was the emperor and maybe we can say the runa simis were common people from the south of the Tahuantinsuyo Empire like Cusco. The Tahuantinsuyo was from Chile and Argentina to Colombia, the Capital was Cusco where our friends are right now. Then the Spanish arrived and they founded the Virreynato of Peru from Chile and Argentina until Colombia.

      You are wrong. Incas also built with larger stones. Check what they built the time of Inca Huayna Capac in the current territory of Quito Ecuador an Inca temple or an astronomical observatory called Ingapirca

    1) the "tired stones" are called sayk’usqa rumi, "rumi" being stone. 2) What you call the "back" of the "Inkawatana" is the front, facing the the rising sun at the December solstice. 3) The trapezoidal niches you see in most Inka buildings would hold idols if they were temples, personal items if they were residences. The Inka had no furniture. 3) The two-story structure in Qellu Racay was, per archeologists and Andeanists, probably Inka Pachacutiq's lodging in his river retreat. As you say, all is speculation.4) The "glacier" is called Wayka Willkiy in the Inka tongue, and Apu Veronica in Spanish. I guess they named it after the restaurant. Glad you like the town, it has the most undestroyed Inka ruins in the world. I moved here ten years ago and I'm never going back.

    Hello Alex and Lindsey! Glad to see that you guys are still busy and about...sharing these super interesting videos! That was pretty funny when that little girl came up and was giving her little "commands" or whatever...gosh- I was wondering for a min. there if she was speaking quechua -as I understood most of what she said but, not all. Take care guys and stay safe. That's great that you guys are taking a little break from all the taping etc. You guys are the best! You deserve a little break there. 🎖 😀

    👍 👍 Alex, One of the reasons why the Inca Arquitecture was built by the Incas an not another lost-in-time civilizations is "Piedras Cansadas" They were on its way to a new Temple , but the construction was suddenly stopped. The reason for being suddenly stopped was the abrupt presence of Spain 🇪🇸 in Peru 🇵🇪 I mentioned this because there are some few youtubers on internet with no professsional background that says that it was built by another civilization thousands of years ago, and even Aliens

    • @joselaserna954
      @joselaserna954 3 роки тому +2

      I'm a Peruvian, but I 'm a person who likes to use common sense, Its already well know than the Inca Empire was just 200 hundred years - and impossible to build all the constructions in that short time. But Pre- Inca civilizations were in Our land Peru also, whoever they were, and I m proud of what they did.

    • @carlosespinoza2453
      @carlosespinoza2453 3 роки тому +2

      Jose, just look carefully at the details of the Piedra Cansada. *It is not been there during thousands of years* Just some few hundreds of years. The shinny and fresh color of the rock shows no deterioration by the nature. This means it was done by Incas and was part of the beginning of a proyect . Peru had 16 millions of population when Spain came here. It is enough people to do the job as MachuPicchu in less than 100 years

    • @joselaserna954
      @joselaserna954 3 роки тому

      It is mathematically impossible for an entire empire with megalithic constructions to be built in just 200 years, neither did the Incas know the wheels or large metal machines and it is easy to see in the Inca constructions, how they built walls of mud and stones without the perfect technique From the foundations of the same walls, there are historians who say that the Incas said that they already found the demolished buildings and they built on top of it. Read the real comments of the Inca Garcilazo de la Vega where he says that the Incas told him that their ancestors said that those who built those buildings came down from heaven. and also the founders of the Inca empire Manco Capac and Mama Ocllo came out of the waters of Lake Titicaca. I mean that everything is mystical in The history of the land of the Incas.

      Could you send the link of book where we can read that what you are saying is true about Inca Garcilazo ? Where is the link to the words of Inca Garcilazo saying it was built by Gods from Heaven also known as Aliens ? Please do not put a link of a youtuber or any other non serious arqueology. We just want the original book or original information from a serious link. Thanks

I've said it before and will say it again......take a break, we won't be upset with you both.....you deserve a nice long week at least of putting the camera away and just switching off! Only thing I ask is an up date on Mr Potatoe head (Spud) but will keep my eyes peeled for next video of what you've been up to😊 Stay safe! Sending hugs Rose😘😘🐕🐶 xx

    I’ve done editing for my teenieTiny Channel. I can’t imagine the work you have done uploading every two day BUT I have enjoyed them all.
    All the construction you have seen with small stones is Inca work. Those massive smooth stones were done by a lost technology thousand of years earlier by an unknown civilisation. Notice the differences as you travel.
    When I grow up, I want to be like Alex and so cool 😎.

    Wow, thank you again for a great video. I am learning more about my native Peru and it's culture by watching your videos. Since you guys go through the unexplored areas and off the tourist traps I get to see the real people and fall in love even more with my country. I pray that we get to visit Peru soon, to step again on the Pachamama and thank the ancestors for their legacy. Thanks for all you show us, enjoy your little 'breaks' and stay safe.
