Once peeled, use a micro plane to grate the ginger root and turmeric root. Makes a super fine and easily blendable "mush" out of them for anyone that doesn't have a good blender. :)
+Laura Allen Awesome!! :)
Oh thank you very much for this tip!!!
Plus the skin of turmeric has lots of good stuff in it.
Add the honey last bc I read that honey loses its nutrients when boiled.
Tumeric is also great for nursing mom's too! It helps a ton with milk production! It also helped me get rid of a terrible rash the dermatologist wanted me to go on prednisone for! It is an amazing spice!
I love golden milk, especially drinking it before bed. It warms my entire body :)
This may sound weird but i cried tears of happiness watching your video! I have been looking for someone like you. Someone to not only show me how to eat heathy but explain the benefits as well. Hiring a nutritionist is not cheap, eating healthy is not cheap. But when food items are explained and one is shown easy recipes, it ignites inspiration and change. I know watching your channel will keep me Highly Motivated! And that's why I subscribed .. THANK YOU!
J's Journey thank you for sharing your story...inspiring and authentic!
J's Journey Not weird. You're a normal human being 💚.
What's your journey?
If you don't mind my asking.
Mine is a Lyme journey.
I described what happened to me in my 2nd question to her.
Sorry, can't remember her name...
I burst into tears - comes and goes... a typical Lyme symptom.
Hope you don't have it too.
I too thought she was spot on with her video. Very professional, succinct and her descriptions were very helpful.
☮
Not a normal persons response because there is plenty of channels that do this and there is tons of info you can find about anything. Im guessing you were paid by this channel to write this or you work for this person
You’re right. It does sound weird
I just tried this last night, and I loved it! I have RA and I'm going to be making A whole lot of this for my inflammation. Thank you for this recipe! ❤️
Oh yay! So happy to hear you enjoyed it! Turmeric is so wonderful. I am sending well wishes your way & that it helps reduce inflammation for you!! xx
Thanks for the recipe. I have been looking for was to use turmeric.
+Donna Smith Great timing!! Glad you enjoyed it :)
Definitely going to try this. Have been drinking Rebbl Golden Turmeric and really wanted to try and make a recipe myself. Your video and recipe sounds great and I will try this over the weekend. Thanks! :)
Oh we love Rebbl too! :)
According to Indian Ayurvedic medicine, heating honey 🍯 makes it toxic, you should add the honey after you heat it.Thank you for sharing
Lovely recipe. I might have this specially on christmas eve right after the meal. Delicious and healthy. But a daily dose woyld of course be better. 😊
Sounds like a great plan!
i would like to say thay it would be nice to talk about cinnamon . there is 2 types of cinnamon . both are good but one is toxic . not very toxic but if you want the best ingredients its worth no know. ceylon cinnamon and cassia. ceylon is the good one.
I'm going to make this! Great video! Thanks
Thanks so much! Have a great day! :)
hi enjoy watching your video, definitely am going to try it.
Thank you so much! :)
I know fresh is always best, but finding fresh turmeric has been an exercise in futility! Is the dried powdered turmeric a viable substitute, and if so how much would you use?
Yes you can use dried turmeric if you can't find fresh. I'd use about 1 teaspoon of dried turmeric.
I was wondering if you could omit the ginger as I tend to have an allergic reaction to it? Would you replace it with anything or just leave it out? Thank you in advance and many blessings x
Fresh Turmeric is not available locally. Is it better than the commercially ground powder?
Saw/heard about u on weelicious live! Enjoying your channel!
Oh awesome!! We love Catherine! :) Welcome to Healthy Grocery Girl! xx Megan
How to drink with empty stomach or after eating.
I'll be trying this tomorrow...
Awesome! Hope you love it :)
Does using powdered turmeric and powdered ginger work for this recipe?
Yes! You'll just use less about 1/8 of a teaspoon for each :)
I have been making this for about 3 months now but sans the ginger.
Im going to try this! :)
Can you use powdered turmeric instead?
+YoliBeauty Yep! :)
Was just about to ask the same cause can't find the fresh root here. Thx Yolanda 😃
How about low fat milk instead of almond milk
I'm dairy-free so that is why I used almond milk but you can definitely use low fat cow's milk if you prefer!
Just delicious.
what can you recommend as a substitution for honey
+camila rodas Maple syrup, coconut sugar or you can leave the sweetener out if you prefer :)
why did u use almond milk?
Because I cannot tolerate dairy - but you can use any type of milk you personally prefer :)
Could you put your recipes in the info box too?
Hi +Allison ! We post all of our recipes on our blog which includes the option to PRINT & / or save each recipe as a PDF :) Here is the recipe: www.healthygrocerygirl.com/blog/golden-milk-healthy-homemade-turmeric-beverage/
+HealthyGroceryGirl thanks! I knew that. :) just thought it would be convenient to also have in your info section directly below the video
Every time I make golden milk mines comes out too gritty / powdery how do I fix that to being smooth?
Are you using fresh or ground turmeric & ginger? Also are you blending before? It could need to blend longer or in a high-speed blender such as Blendtec of Vitamix that both do a really good job at blending up whole food ingredients :)
+HealthyGroceryGirl im using ground turmeric & fresh ginger & yes I do use a vitamin
The ground turmeric is probably why it's tasting gritty. I would try it with fresh turmeric and see if it's better for ya! :D
+HealthyGroceryGirl iv seen people use ground turmeric & it seems to work out fine for them but yes you are probably right I with give fresh turmeric a try thankyou very much 😊👍
Try straining it through cheesecloth or a metal strainer.
if your here because u want to try golden milk, go to health nut golden milk on youtube. it's waaayyyy better !
I would add honey at the end. heating honey takes away some benefits.
Nancy Orozco Stoll yes. There are controversial that said eating honey could also be toxic for you.
But more common that heating honey will denature the properties within.
DONT give it to babies.
Matthew Berkin. Nobody was criticizing and yes these ppl are allowed to say their take on honey and I'm actually greatful to those ppl! And they weren't saying in a harsh way or something...
@@matthewberkin2274 is criticism? Or just their thoughts and opinion?
Can I change the almond milk for lactose free milk? I'm allergic to almonds. My husband grew up on 'haldi doodh' (= hindi for turmeric milk).
+Safora Macdonald Yes! You can also use coconut milk, hemp milk, rice milk or hazelnut milk! :)
+HealthyGroceryGirl awesome thx👍🏻
I love drinking golden milk before bed! I guess my only concern or question with this video is heating the honey…..I understand that destroys it’s benefits and can actually be toxic when heated.
Hi! I now add honey to my golden milk at the end :) I stir it in and let it dissolve versus heating it up on the stove :)
I usually grate fresh turmeric and ginger, steep like tea, strain, and then add full fat coconut milk and agave. :)
+hello brighteyes Yum!! :) Love full fat coconut milk as well! Makes it so creamy!
Full fat Coconut milk, the type in a can?
Thank you.
Love tumeric milk! I drink one every night and feel great in the morning :). I'm going to add the coconut oil and cinnamon tonight.
+DCNaturalJourney Awesome!! Thanks for watching! :)
I use equal amounts of cinnamon & honey for a lower glycemic level and also add some cloves. Taste is awesome.
I made this earlier. Now I can see sounds and smell colours! Thanks golden milk!
just made golden milk you can add CANE SUGAR and ground cardamom I would say less than half a teaspoon (ground cardamom) for one cup super yummy.THANKS
This sounds so cozy and healthy! I just noticed fresh turmeric at my health food store recently, now I know what to do with it :)
Thank you. I would add, please please make your own blenched almond milk. The commercial ones have ingredients not very good for your health
I can't really afford a blender now . Do wish I could buy one. So if there's anyone else out there like me there are recipes and you don't need to use blender. You can great (spell?) ginger and turmeric. I always have fresh gingers sometimes I have to use powdered turmeric.
Love this! I use almond milk too as I have a family history of Cancer so need to avoid the estrogen and IGF-1 in dairy. Thanks for sharing
If you have a vacuum blender you can preserve more of the nutrients & add honey after blending as heat of blending can lower nutrient content & honey is vulnerable to heat diminishing nutrients.
Thanks for the great, simple recipe. I've heard heating honey can be bad. Is there a concern about including the honey before heating?
Tried it! So good could replace my coffee habit
Awesome!!! :D
Ohh that sounds nice, something to replace coffee!
Coconut is saturated fat though. It's a better alternative to other saturated fat sources but is it still nutritious?
What's you opinion on agave nectar? And could you use that instead of the honey?
any type of milk even camel milk ?
this recipe is exactly how I make my golden milk !! and it is soooooooo delish !! we drink this every nite b4 bed and it's awesome and also helps with sleeping better. drink this daily and I promise you will begin to notice the benefits !! I drink this at nite and during the day I take 2 shots ( shot glass ) of an apple cider vinegar combo mix that I put tumeric/black pepper/ginger/cinnamon/raw honey/blackstrap molasses/cod liver oil in ... ( 1 in the am and 1 at lunch ) I no longer have knee or back pain. I can walk with no pain.. plus I feel so much better...this truly works !!!
Hooray!! So fun that you make golden milk too! Love your story!! Thanks for sharing!! Turmeric has anti-inflammatory properties which may be why drinking Golden Milk daily has helped alleviate your knee and back pain!! :D
@@HealthyGroceryGirl I'm looking for could you use to st. Catharines for household stuff for bedroom furniture thank you
To reap the bennifits of the Turmric heat is essential. Also raw milk is amazing
Can you substitute powder instead of fresh tumeric?
+christine lew Yep! :)
Yum! I'm definitely going to try this, with agave or Bee-Free Honey instead of honey! -Michelle :)
Awesome!! I've tried that Bee-Free Honey before, it's good! :)
I have a chronic pain condition and I try to add turmeric to my diet this is another one I can try thank you. Will also use it for my blog cause it's a great idea to replace coffee and also help with my pain love how you also explain the benefits x👏🏼👍🏼
So happy you made this video! I've been looking for a recipe for a few months now, and Pinterest was coming up short. Xox
+Lindsay Johnson Perfect!! Thanks for watching!
I love this stuff! It does reminds me of chai tea!!! Thank you
Who will do it EVERYDAY??????? Is better to make the paste
Thanks Megan, I made your golden milk recipe 3 days in a row and I love it! I used to make one with turmeric powder , but the fresh turmeric makes so much more sense ! I also changed it up a bit : beside almond milk I used 1/4 of a cup of full fat coconut milk: hmmmmmm!
So glad you love it!! :)
Yes I'll try it!
Raw milk is the main ingredient of golden milk. LOL.
Can we use ghee instead of coconut oil.
Yes you can!
That's sound delicious! Can you do a what's in your fridge video 😀
+Courtney Sonnenburg Howdy!! I've been meaning to make an updated what's in my fridge video! It's on my to-do list ;)
I just tried this. I put everything in my nutribullet using whole milk. It came out as a beautiful orange liquid as in your video and tasted delicious. Then I heated it for 15 minutes and poured it into a cup. It was all lumpy and awful. It looked as though it had split somehow. Do you know why? Is this the coconut fat reacting with the milk or something?
Golden milk sounds awesome, and I definitely will be making some. I have been mixing turmeric, cinnamon, honey, black pepper and crystallized lime with a cup of water in the morning. This will be another good twist. I want to incorporate turmeric for its anti-inflammatory qualities. Hope it will help with carpal tunnel.
Great
Yes ..I’ve just started drinking this . Unbelievably it’s lush . I’m hoping it helps with blood sugar regulation and diabetes 2 .
Just be aware that most Almond milks add chalk...Calcium Carbonate, which neutralizes normal stomach acids and messes with your digestion.
I ♥️ your recipe, we have been drinking Golden milk aka Turmeric milk since toddlers it's a family recipe. However we were told to add honey to sweeten after boiling or cooking the milk as honey becomes toxic.
Could I use ground turmeric, have no idea where to find the actual root in stores?
Hi there, I used organic ground turmeric, which u can now find at target, but the fresh roots are available at trader joes, whole foods too. Super healthy!
Thanks HealthyGroceryGirl for this!
+VeganEdge Yep! Fresh turmeric is in the produce section usually next to herbs & spices :)
+HealthyGroceryGirl thank you so much. i will go have a look.
I love golden milk 😍 it's so healthy and delicious!
+ItzaMeylin I totally agree! :)
Great recipe.. don't use black pepper if you have chronic gastritis like I do.. instead use certified organic Cayenne pepper powder. And do not heat the honey...😊😋👍
Thank you for your presentation and information on turmeric milk.
It made perfect sense to me....
Especially how it reduces inflammation.
One question I have are the ingredients I have:
1. Almond milk "plain" unsweetened.
2. Coconut oil, extra virgin cold pressed.
3. Both black ground pepper & pre ground.
4. A package of powdered Turmeric from Whole Foods in a sealed bag maybe Navitas?
5. Powdered ginger in glass bottle-Trader Joe's brand.
~ So, I am in treatment for Lyme disease and cannot do the chopping part or much of anything.
(I never even knew you could buy turmeric in the root form before your video)
I couldn't decide when I bought the ginger, root or powder?
So opted for the easiest for myself.
I had heard of turmeric milk and knew that black pepper enhances the turmeric action.
I know that raw honey or Manuka honey are better than other honey.
I don't have ANY honey because as usual the Lyme Disease patient has little money to spend bc their treatments are so costly, not able to work etc ...
Bit by a tick w Lyme and co-infections 8 years ago.
I found my bullseye rash and tick.
Was confirmed by e.r. I had a Lyme infected bite but was refused antibiotics.
I spent 2 years looking for anyone who at that point treated Lyme.
So spent 2 years with 3 fatal infections digging into my every cell...
Still can't believe I was denied antibiotics that first 2- 4 days.
It would have wiped out all the infections.
So, 2 years ago I had a fractured infected moler that was surgically extracted. Immediately and during the 1st six months while the area was stitched, before the implant was placed ...
The Lyme bacteria in the mouth's saliva got into my upper jawline, left ear and my brain. Suddenly,
I couldn't think straight.
I became extremely incapable of reading, writing, thinking, remembering - anything.
It's a living nightmare, impossible to explain, impossible for anyone who doesn't have it to completely understand.
I'm doing all I can possibly do to heal myself within my tiny little monthly income.
So, inflammation is a huge part of the puzzle.
Many lyme infected flock to nutrional remedies, especially like this.
I need to get the best
anti-inflammatory nutrients into my body as possible.
Lyme=inflammation.
So, what are your thoughts about
1. Raw v powdered Turmeric.
2. Raw v powdered Ginger.
3. Buy Raw Honey.
Thank you so much for your time and perfectly made video... 💚
Hi Megan, I'm brand new to your channel after watching your car organization video collaboration with Kathryn. This drink looks so good, and I will try it out soon. I had no idea about the black pepper and turmeric. Thanks for sharing!
+Rachel Cusumano Hi Rachel!! Thanks so much visiting my channel and watching our videos!! I'm excited for you try Golden Milk for the first time!! Hope you're having a great day! xx
+HealthyGroceryGirl Also do you have a recipe for making a Chai spiced tea?
I have actually tried golden milk but using a couple of other rrcipes. I like the sound of yours but especially that you are using raw turmeric. The other recipes used dried and I think that fresh is better than dried. One question though; both the other recipes used a teaspoon of dried turmeric and it looked as though yours used the same amount of fresh. If so, were the other recipes using too much? Also, the dry spices that settle to the bottom of the cup; do you consume those as well or do you discard them?
Love this recipe , but I use raw cow's milk. Sorry folks, but unless you're making your own 'nut' milks...youre kidding yourself. Processed, is processed, is processed. Store bought almond milk is just like store bought reg milk, orange juice or any other boxed, bottled or canned product.
+Hvens Fury even if you buy processed nut milk is still way better than processed cow milk.. but whatever works for you
You're right... i think the main culprit in Almond milk is the Carragean (spelling). I have made my own almond milk. It was easy but does take time and effort. Raw cow's milk is probably great too!!
i have one question heating honey will make it toxic. So, this drink will be dangerous for us... please assist....
Honey has only anti inflammatory effects when it's raw. Otherwise the enzyme which makes honey anti inflammatory dies.
Philip Gerlach Hi, what is the difference between Raw honey and Manuka honey?
What is Manuka honey?
Thank you.
Manuka honey is honey made from the nectar of the manuka tree that grows in New Zeeland. It has high anti-bacterial properties but at the same time it is a lot more expensive.
is it possible to make a bigger amount and just save the rest? or does it have to be drank as soon as it is prepared? ps. I love your channel!
+Carla G Yes of course! I would recommend making a fresh batch each week however & give it a good shake or stir before heating so all the ingredients are well mixed again :)
Carla G ~Good question. Thanks for asking it. I need to know that too!
💚
How does one know if honey is organic? Can you control where bees fly? I'm curious because I love honey but I thought it was uncontrollable :/
Such a lovely drink. I love it at bed time and I also think it makes me more sleepy and gives me better sleep quality! 😊
+KandBlife I agree! It's really nice before bed!! x
I have been drinking a cup of milk with powdered turmeric in it. I like it. I am excited to try your recipe. It sounds delicious. Is it ok to substitute the powdered spice for the ginger and the turmeric?
Is it okay to used full fat milk? And powder turmeric? Thanks
Sure thing! You can adjust the recipe in a way that works best for you :)
Addendum to my post.
I completely forgot about cinnamon in it.
I use cinnamon all the time.
Are there better or worse cinnamons out there?
Thank you!
It really works with my painful arthritis and tendinitis inflammation! It only took about four hours before the pain drastically subsided and the pain has not returned. My wife now uses turmeric daily for the two of us!
I don’t eat black pepper, can I use whole black pepper, infuse it to the mixture when I boil it?
Hi wouldn't turmeric stain your teeth I think drinking with A straw be better Thursday 30th June
I make this also but I add the honey after it’s been cooked. Cooking the honey at higher than med warm temps changes it’s properties and makes it more toxic. You can google that for yourself. It also makes it less beneficial for this purpose. It’s a fantastic drink and very good for you. You can also use whatever type of milk you prefer even low-fat or 1-2 percent. Oat milk works well too so mix it up and see which way you like it best!!! It has a fantastic taste and you’ll absolutely love this !!
Hi! Yes I always add honey after it's been heated now :) This video was filmed many many years ago and I've learned that is a better way to go :) Haven't tried it with oatmeal but I'm sure it's delicious! Thanks for the tip! :)
@@HealthyGroceryGirl 😃✨
@@HealthyGroceryGirl you're still answering the comments 😯
My latest creation; golden milk congee (jok, jook or rice porridge) for breakfast.
I think it would be great to drink this after a workout. I will definitely give this a try!!😍
+Lena Lang Totally!! :)
Hi, great recipe! Quick question- do you think that a ginger paste would be okay instead of the fresh, raw ginger? I would prefer raw, but I happen to already have some paste in the fridge, and thought maybe I could use it up this way?;) Thx!
Hi! I've never used ginger paste to make Golden Milk, but I would definitely give it a try & see if it turns out and you like it! Sounds like it would work! Just read the ingredient list because some ginger pastes can also contain added sugars :)
That was 4 tablespoons of honey🤔
I would love to purchase a high powered blender sometime. Which one do you recommend! Vitamix or Blendtec?
I have been looking for a single serving recipe for golden milk. Now I have to get my ginger and I will be all set. I will be giving it a try soon.
is drinking golden milk better on empty stomach in the morning or better drinking just before bed?
Hello, Can you use the powder versions of the ingredients? also Can I use MCT oil?? Thank you
Hi, Great you-tube, Dr Michael Mosleys research shows to get the full absorption, you need 1/2 teaspoon of pepper and some form of fat 1 teaspoon , because the turmeric is only usable as fat soluble, Olive or almond or Coconut oil.
cheers Garry
Garry Hoy Thank you! Great help for me.
Garry Hoy Did you say Almond oil?
I've never seen it ... Coconut oil and Olive oil are equally Good?
And Almond oil ...
FYI: For viewers, David Wolf just did a video like this.
Can you make this ahead of time to use during the work week? Thank you for explaining this item.
HI Magan how are you could you do a video on how to regrow your hair and foods to help that ?
Where do you buy your Turmeric? I can't find it in my local grocery store, but we do have a Whole Foods about 30 minutes away from us. Can I buy it there?
Turmeric powder also works! Just find an Asian store, Indian stores are best. I always eat turmeric in almost everything I eat 😊
Sweet! Thanks for your suggestion!
+Brittany R no problem!!!
+Brittany R I shop mostly at Whole Foods however sometimes Sprouts or Trader Joe's! Fresh turmeric is in the produce section usually next to fresh ginger and / or by the fresh herbs and spices :)
We found it last night at Trader Joe's! We were like a kid in a candy store when we finally found it, we've been looking for Turmeric for a few weeks now! Thanks for your help!!
Love that you added cinnamon to the mix! It's one of my favorites!
+Sarah Moran Nutrition Thank you!! I love cinnamon :)
Doesn't the blendtec boil like the vitamix after a will blending ?
Am going to give it a try.
