As a non-Indian I got so impressed by your drawers for spices! I used to live in a university dorm with an Indian girl, and she made me some chai for the first time (fun fact: we, russians also call tea "chai"), we cooked for eachother our local dishes and it was super fun. I found your video, because I got nostalgic of my student days. I still remember the day she moved in our room and started unpacking, and I was so surprised of her taking out a huge box of different spices, which probably took 1/4th of her luggage😄I'm happy that now we can cook almost any meal by learning from real representatives of their culture
For the plants, I never want to cut them either but I take the cuts, sit them in water, let them grow roots and put back into the pot for a fuller looking plant. Thanks for the tea tutorial!
I am so jealous of your spice drawers! In fact, I sent this to my husband as a hint. I would love a "tour" of your spice drawer, maybe as the framework for a series of recipes explaining how Indian cooking uses spices.
Thank you SO much for this teaching! I am just sitting down to my very first cup - ohh it tastes divine and my house smells so very delicious and and cannot stop smiling 🥰
My mum always makes masala saa for us when we're sick. A bonus is when boiling the tea, the entire house fills with the aroma of spices. It's so comforting especially on an autumn/winter's day :)

Cut your long plant to the left of your stove and put the cut bit in water. When the roots form you can plant it in the same pot with the Mama plant to make it nice and full. Love this chai recipe, thank you!

I'm going to try it your mum's way too-- with the use of oat milk as well. Thanks Akshaya! If it's good enough for your mum, it's good enough for me. 😄
Oh, I've been thinking of switching to oat Mike because of my lactose issues. Nice to know the favors still work for people using other milks. Will give it a try soon!
Oatly is my favorite but the best alternatives are also 365 oatmilk and Elmshurst oatmilk in my opinion. I do not like any other brand I've tried so far.
I've been drinking chai with the same ingredients you used for years but following your method was a game changer. Just by changing the steps, boiling the spices first made one of the best chai I've ever made and had. WOW...never going back to any other method, found my cooking channel on UA-cam. Keep doing these awesome videos Chetna. ❤️❤️🙏

Today, I tried your Masala Chai recipe in the morning, and I was truly blown away by the taste of it. I tasted many other "exotic" recipes from internet for this delicacy but didn't get good results. Yours one was simple yet delicious. The chai actually tasted like chai because of the lesser amount of milk and hard liquor, not like some milkshake. Thanks 🎉
Thank you SO much! I've been drinking chai consistently for years now but have always been intimidated and intrigued to make it on my own. Something about using whole spices always seems like it requires a lot of skill - but this combined with a desi friend giving me his recommendations made it so much more approachable. I visited my local indian grocery store to get the whole spices (The spices were so much cheaper compared to at American grocery stores and so much more bang for your buck it's crazy) & ended up using whole peppercorns that I mashed with a makeshift mortar and pestle (a ceramic bowl and spoon handle), black cardamom, half a cinnamon stick & a few cloves. So happy I can finally stop buying chai concentrate and keep experimenting with making my own (-: Hopefully this helps any one who also has been apprehensive to make it from scratch
Wonderful video thank you so much for sharing and God bless. I am the daughter of a Mexican mom and an American white man and married to a Nigerian and I have some Indian spices here and now can make a proper chai. What a blessing to learn from other cultures.

Sometimes I achieve great depth of flavor and other times it's flat. You've shown me what I may be doing wrong! I'm trying your techniques this afternoon! Thank you again!

I made 2 cups: one for today and one for tomorrow. I stored the other cup in the fridge to reheat! Thank you!

I would love to perfect a nice masala chai for friends, family and my sweetie. this is great guidance.
About your plants; they thrive on being cut back. An alternative is 'pinning' them up, so the 'branches' flourish and grow outward. The one that you say you've cut back numerous times is looking a little 'leggy' and might benefit from either a larger container and fresh soil, or much more sunlight and less frequent waterings. Or a hardy trimming. 🙂 Going to drink some Chai, now❣️ Thx❣️

Hi, looks amazing, will try! Have had chai, in a restaurant, was a bit too sweet and asked the server to add less sugar. He said they used sweetened condensed milk and was unable to adjust the sweetness. Have you heard of using sweetened condensed milk to make chai? Thanks!
In the summer, I made a very strong chai (without the milk), kept it in the fridge and when I wanted something refreshing, I put some in a tumbler and added coconut milk. I know it’s not proper masala chai, but it was great in the hot weather
Wow! That’s a GREAT IDEA ❣️. Especially since I don’t have milk in the fridge all the time. I always have a can of coconut milk and it even adds another wonderful flavor!👏👏👏👏
My wife and I recently found an India store with a wonderful proprietor he knew everything about every item in his store. When he found out I knew what I was talking about with masala he got excited and shared some of his personal chai he had brought from home. It was the best I ever had and he shared his recipe with us. We bought the ingredients and are making it at home. So good my favorite hot drink. I like the tea from the foothills of the Himalayas the best. I think packaged tea is bitter. I have subscribed and will be trying some of your dishes.
I learned how to make chai from my roomate who learned from her sister in law Savitri (fantastic cook). Savitri made it with cinnamon as well. I am keen to try your recipe, looks divine! Chai with samosa or onion & chili pakoli great snack!
I adore masala chai. When I was in India a few years back I drank it by the bucketful but I had to remember to ask to make it without sugar as I really do not like sweet hot drinks. I will try your version as well.
@@FoodwithChetna some restaurants near me have gotten so used to English speakers doubling the name, that when one orders masala chai, they look confused and ask “chai tea?”
For me it's the same when someone says hot water heater. If the water is already hot it dont need to be heated . It's a water heater. Anyway I digress. I first had chai when I was deployed to Iraq the first few timeS and have loved it ever since. Those Iraqis made some really good chai! I'd love to try your way.
i've been working on creating a chai that works for me! i love reading and watching about it, it's so cool and i always learn something!! i put it in a thermos and it still hurts after leaving it open for like 90 minutes lol ! it's so cozy
Thank you for the recipe. I love masala chai & drink it more during winter months. I would like to ask the kind of loose tea you used. You have not specified. I want to make some soon. Thank you
You can use any loose tea you like, I sometimes bring a pack back from India, sometimes I use pgtips loose tea and sometimes twinnings everyday tea bags
This is great, thanks! You’ve inspired me to have a proper go w whole spices & my pestle & mortar (which I never use 😅) but I also make a lazy caffeine-free version w rooibos or dandelion tea, almond milk, & ground spices - often cloves, cinnamon & turmeric. Today you inspired me to add ground cardamom & ginger!
I love spice, and I just got a chance to taste a masala chai for the first time few days ago. And I love it. After watching this video, I'll definitely making this drink as one of my favourite drink to make at home.
I tried to make chai after seeing your video. After i taste it, it was soo good! but i feel familiar with the taste. Its a lil bit like "bandrek" in my country (indonesia). maybe because the taste of tea that i use is not strong. In my country, we use ginger, cloves, cinnamon, pandan leaves, brown sugar, a lil bit of salt and boiled in water. We didnt use tea or milk. I love both!🥰
You made me smile-as I was drooling over your lovely spice center, you had to start searching for what you needed! I have such an assortment of spices I can't keep them in 1 location either. But yours are still organized much more neatly than I can organize mine. Thanks for the chai primer. And now I get it why some chai tea I liked & some I didn't.

Thank you Chetna. I'm experimenting with warming comfort foods this coming autumn and winter here in England and have never made this kind of chai at home, for shame! Have had chai, in a restaurant, was a bit too sweet and asked the server to add less sugar. He said they used sweetened condensed milk and was unable to adjust the sweetness. Have you heard of using sweetened condensed milk to make chai? Thanks!
I love the way you have organised and the choice of your kitchen drawers display, wooden cutting boards and different cutting knives
In the summer, I made a very strong chai (without the milk), kept it in the fridge and when I wanted something refreshing, I put some in a tumbler and added coconut milk. I know it’s not proper masala chai, but it was great in the hot weather
Sounds great!
Welcome to the channel and hope you will enjoy other recipes too
I learned how to make chai from my roomate who learned from her sister in law Savitri (fantastic cook). Savitri made it with cinnamon as well. I am keen to try your recipe, looks divine! Chai with samosa or onion & chili pakoli great snack!
Yes thats a great combination
I love the time you take to show us. It’s like we are in your kitchen. Thank you for the details.
you are welcome
How can anyone dislike this video? This lady is so sweet 🥺 Great informative video and looking forward to trying this recipe ❤️
Hope you will enjoy it
Great tutorial! I just tried making masala chai for the first time using this video and it was gone from my household in minutes! My family loves it.
that is amazing
I like adding half of star anise to my chai along with the spices that you used - adds a nice touch.
But I bet yours tastes just as good ☕️
Sounds great!
I have made this chai again and again. Thank you for sharing such a reliably delicious cup of chai.
How timely! I was thinking a couple days ago I would like to see a real chai being made. Hooray for Chetna! Looks great
You are adorable and lovely person, great recipes , thanks from Canada 🇨🇦 ❤
I adore masala chai. When I was in India a few years back I drank it by the bucketful but I had to remember to ask to make it without sugar as I really do not like sweet hot drinks. I will try your version as well.
Hope you will like it
Thank You Madam Chetana ! God Bless 🙏
you are welcome
Great video Chetna as always. I loved when you were insistent, in a very polite way, about what we should call chai - got it and thanks again.
Thanks
@@FoodwithChetna some restaurants near me have gotten so used to English speakers doubling the name, that when one orders masala chai, they look confused and ask “chai tea?”
My daughter taught me not to say chai tea. Also, naan bread. My son-in-law just smiles and says it doesn't really matter lol
Love your spice drawers and that Chai looks Devine.
thanks
Oh how I love CHAI. Just curious as to what kind of tea you used...flavor wise? So enjoy you and your videos.
Any strong tea like twinnings everday or pg tips, both nice and strong
Hey if you are in UK.. I have found Builders and Yorkshire are great, strong teas 😍😍
Assam would be a great addition.
i've been working on creating a chai that works for me! i love reading and watching about it, it's so cool and i always learn something!! i put it in a thermos and it still hurts after leaving it open for like 90 minutes lol !
it's so cozy
Thank you for the recipe. I love masala chai & drink it more during winter months. I would like to ask the kind of loose tea you used. You have not specified. I want to make some soon. Thank you
You can use any loose tea you like, I sometimes bring a pack back from India, sometimes I use pgtips loose tea and sometimes twinnings everyday tea bags
I visited India in November last year and after I came back was craving for masala tea 😊 Thanks for the great video.
That cup of chai looks so good 😍
Normally when I take 2 cups of tea it’s boils down to one 😂 how u managed to still get two full cup of tea😍
It's a little of bit of heaven on earth. It is truly wonderful and thank you for sharing this.
Glad you enjoyed it!
What’s your favorite brand of black tea for chai
its your cool laid back calming alure thats warms us up to see you.your addictive.just like the masala chai
Thats very kind, thanks
This is great, thanks! You’ve inspired me to have a proper go w whole spices & my pestle & mortar (which I never use 😅) but I also make a lazy caffeine-free version w rooibos or dandelion tea, almond milk, & ground spices - often cloves, cinnamon & turmeric. Today you inspired me to add ground cardamom & ginger!
Wonderful!
I love both!🥰
So glad you enjoyed it
Hi, I tried your Chai tday. I made without ginger and added a very tiny piece of cinnamon. It turned out real yum. Many thanks for sharing 😊❤
Remember, just chai not chai tea :)
hope you will try this version of chai
And she most likely has another location to house all of the remnants in the bulk containers that would not fit in the jars.
@@calartian85 I am so giggling! I hadn't thought of that, but if it's like my house it's absolutely true. I spent some time this morning addressing that very challenge! Decanting some things into smaller jars & trying to figure out where to tuck the rest away! Thank you for giving me a smile today, Gid bless
@@calartian85 ha3. Exactly. Mines in d fridge
Amazing 😮 without labeling the jars you know which is what! That’s a lot of spices 😮
I never knew that Chai was so easy to make! I am definitely going to try this! Thank you
Hope you enjoy
Chai means Tea some say Cha
I'm sure Chetna's version of chai tastes out of this world. This is a top shelf tea.
Thanks a lot
Thank you Chetna. I'm experimenting with warming comfort foods this coming autumn and winter here in England and have never made this kind of chai at home, for shame! I will follow your recipe and when feeling bold, also tackle the recipe I have for homemade crumpets. Much exciting but simple activity in my home this winter! 😊🍵
This recipe is amazing!!! My second time making it! I added the cinnamon and pepper and I drink it cold is perfect! Thank you!
You are so amazing - thank you for making these recipes so approachable. I am a piano teacher, & my clients often make me the most delicious masala chai. I am a loyal & fussy coffee drinker, but this is the most delicious & comforting beverage. I love it! Thank you!
You are very welcome
Masala Chai 🎉is one of my Absolute favorites and I Love making it at Home. Thank you for sharing your kindness and time with us in making your Masala Chai today. You're Amazing 🎉❤🎉
Chetna! 👏🏽👏🏽Yay! Finally the proper way to make chai. I never drink it prepared anymore because of the cooked milk/water thing and waaaay to many spices. I love your spice drawers, I live in Canada and most people cannot understand why I have so many spices. I have an antique shelf with my spices arranged on it. And thank you, I am getting a little tired of the "chai tea", "roti bread" , "naan bread" thing.
First time I tried Masala Chai I felt like I fell in love for the first time again, it taste so goooooood
