I remember seeing this in high school this and thinking this guy is the luckiest guy to get to meet his heroes, get all that loot including the guitar, and that large collectable plaque. I remember watching the Pantera later and thinking, wow, shoes...
This was the year metallica become my favorite band. I was 13. Im almost 41 now and still a huge metallica fan. 1994 metallica will always be my favorite year with metallica
I think it's really cool that the contest winner actually knows how to play guitar. I play the saxophone but I don't know of too many metal bands that have a tenor sax (sad face emoji).
Interesting comment seeing as Riki Rachtman is one of the most hated MTV hosts ever (...for what it's worth I never had a problem with him, but the general opinion is that he sucks)
You can notice that Jason always stayed true to his roots and preferences. He even enjoyed more playing in bars and clubs rather than sold out crowds!... And yes, Jason always kept playing outside of metallica, but when James saw that Metallica's mgmt team was interested in doing something with Jason and not with him, that's when his ego began to rise to neverending levels... and the rest is history!!... For me, the image that metallica acquired in the 90's and still has, will always will be best with Jason in Metallica, Trujillo is a great bass player but does not fit into the style of metallica, period.
Charlie_33 thats like your opinion man... i have seen them a couple times and rob is simply wow! took me years to get used to him and his style. jason was more of a second front man, but rob is simply awesome!
40 years after 1994 is 2034 will Kirk Hammet play Jazz...? I have no idea. It would be interesting to see if that ever happens though He'll be 71 I think. I think It would be cool if Metallica still happens to be touring at that time though, since The Rolling Stones are still going and they're somewhere in their 70's.
I can remember seeing a kid standing outside his house and a huge 18 wheeler pulls up in front of his house. I can't remember the exact scenario but they open up the back of the truck and I thought it was Metallica inside? The kid had won a contest for the band to put on a concert in his backyard or something. Was it Metallica or Kiss or someone else? I've been looking for a video of that for a long time. Anyone know what I'm talking about?
At 25:36 they have him playing on a Danelectro guitar, you would've thought with all the money they were making they would've let him play on one of the ESP guitars??!!
Nah, it was a side project that got shut down by James. Both James and Jason wanted to do thrash again but Kirk and Lars wanted to "evolve" and of course management backed that thought up.

He is! PJ is my brother in law and BJ is still a close friend of his. PJ used to tell me about this when I was a kid but I didn’t believe him until I saw this. BJ still has almost all of the stuff he got from thsi
They may have actually played at a church for real once, if you search The Day Metallica Came To Church there's this guy who's a Pastor who wrote a book called The Day That Metallica Came To Church. He sees the good in them.
that was before internet, young buck. You had to buy books with tablature or maybe be lucky enough to learn from someone who already knew how to play a particular song you wanted to play. Things were a bigger deal back then. Sorry you dont know. Took alot more of your time and patience to learn anything.
I think thats Jason’s kit. I remember them saying that “j. New kid” set up their rehersal studio during garage days re-revisited. I’m sure he got someone like Fleming to set it up Lars style.
So riki talks about the Pantera headbangers ball contest which used to be hear on UA-cam but it looks like it got taken down? Can anyone re upload it? Thanks.
Kirk still had his classic hairstyle, not dreads yet, and Jason had the coolest Sepultura hoodie. Great footage.
Full beard James
21:20 - Devil's Dance
BRAINLEZZ TV
Wow, in 94. Pretty old Riff
at 25:33 JAMES - "YEAH ! BABY YEAH !"
He sound like King Diamond
That "Kid" that won looks like he's 35 at the same time in High school.
AlexanderW oh shut up lol I’m 24 and I still look like I’m high school or junior high 😂
Dude I was so hyped to finally see this after years of PJ telling me about it when I was a kid. This is fucking awesome!
4:10 Jason already mentioning not being in sync with the band and wanting to do side projects ... he seems to watch his words explaining it
The way Jason looked over to the others out of frame when the guy said “side projects”
I remember seeing this in high school this and thinking this guy is the luckiest guy to get to meet his heroes, get all that loot including the guitar, and that large collectable plaque. I remember watching the Pantera later and thinking, wow, shoes...
"I lost count at 256,003"

A full beard fits James much better than a goatee
RickGrimes41 exactly my thoughts!
RickGrimes41
Lol you are always commenting about James hair
General Shamic there's alot to say obviously
@@fe5018 Nah there isn't
@@RickGrimesS5, I beg to differ. The facial hair, the long hair the mullet... so, so much.
17:25 lol Lars predicted Load would change his humble attitude.
James was jamming to the Devil's Dance Riff in several bits
13:42 Funny how they did that at Jason's place which is now "The Chophouse", hell might have been called that then but cool to see the same room.
This was the year metallica become my favorite band. I was 13. Im almost 41 now and still a huge metallica fan. 1994 metallica will always be my favorite year with metallica
I miss mtv being about music. I miss music being good.
I think it's really cool that the contest winner actually knows how to play guitar. I play the saxophone but I don't know of too many metal bands that have a tenor sax (sad face emoji).
Jason’s Sepultura hoodie is amazing.
Reporters used to be so good now it seems like most are tools with lame questions
Interesting comment seeing as Riki Rachtman is one of the most hated MTV hosts ever (...for what it's worth I never had a problem with him, but the general opinion is that he sucks)
Riki was and will always be a tool. Worst part of headbangers as a kid
Cause EVERYTHING was better back then!!! I was there and these days everything fucking sucks!!
Thx for this gem
23:05 entering of the sandman
Oh damn lars was still using a big kit early 94!
28:01 i like that run to the hills
13:40 Is it Jason's Chophouse Records studio?

@@CarimboHanky Jason over Rob ANY DAY

28:17 wow I never seen Lars wearing Sepultura shirt :) awesome, Max rules
Lars has a very good taste
Lars and Jason both have Sepultura shirts on.
I'm glad Kirk grew his hair out again, I think it looks cool. I don't think he's aged that much. Some gray hair, a few wrinkles and that's about it.
@@JPX64Channel Didn't know that.
i love kirk so much. lucky fan.
How fucking cool was that prize, hanging out with them, jamming with them and then getting that box full of stuff!!
I can't believe people held on to mullets this far into the 90's
I can't believe they made a come back in 2021
People? You mean James?
I hadn't seen a mullet in years when James showed up with his.
Fucking love Old James Hetfield!

Damn, Lars's snare drum sounds like the Police banging on the door!
Lars and Jason supporting Sepultura! \m/
13:40 Holy shit that shirt
so awesome thanks for sharing.

Definitely Metallica! It was when the Load album was released. Look up 1996 MTV Metallica Mother Load Contest. That's the summer I got into Metallica!
At 25:36 they have him playing on a Danelectro guitar, you would've thought with all the money they were making they would've let him play on one of the ESP guitars??!!
Jason talking about playing heavy hillbilly was probably where Load/ReLoad came from
Not at all, both James and jason didnt like the direction.. it was kirk and Lars actually.
And I don't think Jason much creative input on the Load albums.
Nah, it was a side project that got shut down by James. Both James and Jason wanted to do thrash again but Kirk and Lars wanted to "evolve" and of course management backed that thought up.
Kirk, " Don't stand on my pedal" lol!
Timestamp?
The host was more a fan that the kids. He asked very good questions...
He knows Metallica, they were friends, not a fan, he's just great at his job!

Cool story, bro. But it would be a cooler story if you talked about how you found $5
This was broadcast in late 93 not 94.
Well they said 94 on here and asked what was up for them in 95. Plus they were still on their Black Album tour in 93!
