Love 90s Metallica, the best era, they finally started writing accessible songs and more melodies. It was necessary to cement their longevity in the music business. Evolving is important. Eventually constant fast thrash is just exhausting and too much. Black, Load, and Reload balances their discography so well. I remember being in 7th grade my science partner in school borrowed me the Reload CD, I was blown away. I just played Fuel on repeat for a week straight. Would never have been a huge fan without that moment.

To me this was Metallica's era between 1996 through the early 2000's because they did it there way.

I think what James complains about load is not the music but the visual style they adopted, James always thought it was a bit ridiculous, he wanted to be more like corrosion of conformity and lars and Kirk wantet to be No mercy or something like that.
