Love 90s Metallica, the best era, they finally started writing accessible songs and more melodies. It was necessary to cement their longevity in the music business. Evolving is important. Eventually constant fast thrash is just exhausting and too much. Black, Load, and Reload balances their discography so well. I remember being in 7th grade my science partner in school borrowed me the Reload CD, I was blown away. I just played Fuel on repeat for a week straight. Would never have been a huge fan without that moment.

I'd say more power to them. A varied discography is always better than the same thing over and over, if it's really good. The switch from Thrash/Heavy metal to Hard Rock/Heavy for metallica was really great. And megadeth have a varied discography as well, which is why megadeth are awesome as well. They went from speed/thrash up until RIP then they went for more melodic and/or rythmic heavy metal with CTE, youthanasia and CW, then went to Hard Rock with Risk, went back to melodic heavy metal with The World Needs a hero and The System has failed then returned to Thrash metal with United Aboms and Endgame and again realized that they wanted to do something different than Thrash and went with Hard Rock/Heavy Metal/Punk with 13 and Super Collider all of their albums are amazing, so yeah. Diversity and variety rule.

Smack to the face, because a band wants to bring out fresh and new material, instead of milking what they know is successful -> Heavy/Thrash Metal? Hmm... yeah... I'd say more power to them. A varied discography is always better than the same thing over and over, if it's really good. The switch from Thrash/Heavy metal to Hard Rock/Heavy for metallica was really great.
And megadeth have a varied discography as well, which is why megadeth are awesome as well.
They went from speed/thrash up until RIP then they went for more melodic and/or rythmic heavy metal with CTE, youthanasia and CW, then went to Hard Rock with Risk, went back to melodic heavy metal with The World Needs a hero and The System has failed then returned to Thrash metal with United Aboms and Endgame and again realized that they wanted to do something different than Thrash and went with Hard Rock/Heavy Metal/Punk with 13 and Super Collider all of their albums are amazing, so yeah. Diversity and variety rule.

Black album was a perfect mix of heavy metal and progressive metal. One of the best selling metal albums ever. You might hate it but facts dont care about feelings 👍🤘🤘
