    I think this is very clear and helps explain a lot of the turbo options for some of us.
    Its nothing new to me since I've researched it, but its a great video.
    Im FBO, E30 tune (JST) and I have always been wanting that 'extra' power without needing to invest a ton more into fueling and turbos. A hybrid using the factory housing K03 and internal waste gate is great without having to upgrade anything, just slap on the modified K03, have your tuner tweak it, and enjoy 40-70 more whp. Tbo, for a daily, I would be happy with that 'little extra; for about a grand, vs thousands to reach a 400-500hp number thats really pushing limits of the car all over...
    I hear a lot of bad about the hybrids too...but i think it's mostly that its still limited and 'not worth the time' by those looking for a lot more power.

    Great presentation on turbo applications. For myself, the GTX 2867 Gen 2, would be the right application for my needs. It would offer a perfect power band with upgrades for the future and most importantly, reliable horsepower for daily driving without failing smog testing in California.

    man...i commented on this 1-2 years ago..and now im finally ready to pull the trigger on a bigger turbo! Since these videos, we have the BNR turbos, which i believe now are the go-to along with the GTX turbos. Im planning now to pull the trigger on a BNR67 kit with FBO/E30, get tuned, then play with a 380whp'ish set up for a bit and upgrade my HPFP and max out the turbo around 420-440whp when i decide on a clutch to go with. Pretty sure anything over 400 the stock clutch wont like track days very much XD
    Alan/Edge's videos to this day are still the best for this platform and what to do..great info!

    Awesome video!! I’d like to see a vid about the differences between WMI with a tune vs not being tuned for WMI. Serious info dump here, thank you so much! 2018 ST, I'm going to be knock-limited with only 91 octane available at the pump.
    Full Mountune intake w/ tune & LSD have added a lot to the car, both fun and practical. Long term, I'd like a 2.3 upgrade to the block & turbo to match, but I'm wondering what I can do for the next 100k mi to get a bit more top-end on pump gas.

      @EdgeAutosport  3 роки тому

      We might do a video on that turbo one of these days but regardless, if the difference in budget is not in play for you when it comes to the G25, that is the best option. You just need to figure out what size turbine housing and what power limit you want between the 550 and the 660. If it's a street car, I recommend getting the smaller housing on either one as it will provide power in a more usable rpm range for the street.

    Interesting :D There's another way to go, which is hybrid turbo made of the standard unit. In my case together with RS intercooler, 3" decat DP, colder plugs, custom tuning and 98 RON fuel - 346 WHP and 394ft (535NM at 3200) torque. Very cost effective.

    Little curious about something. I run into my car on the accessport reading over 28 psi of boost i did buy the vehicle used, but the map sensor is stock ford part. but my car on a 91 oct tune reads 31 lbs of boost on a 2867r gen 2. is there a reason for this? been driving the car for about 5k miles, and it doesnt seem slow in any way. also when installing i made sure that the boost controller was hooked up correctly spent about 2 hours adjusting and making sure there's no problems there. but I've seen some people tell me its odd.

      There is alot more to you 0-60 than turbo size. In fact in some cases depending on how backed off you tune is the lil k03 might even beat you on 0-60 on a good setup. Because of that fast lighting mountain of torque that comes on fast

  • @dham99
    @dham99 2 роки тому

    In a more recent video, you mentioned the GTX2860 as your turbo choice if you do not plan on ever upgrading the fuel system, correct? So between the Garrett PowerMax and the GTX2860, your recommendation would be to also upgrade the wastegate. I havent seen too many videos on the choices we have and how to install those. Do you have a link to one of your 'heres a wastegate upgrade' for the turbos listed above?
    My goal is more power, without sacrificing the big torque. I like quick spool but want more top end. I also want to maintain the factory fuel system as I daily the car and only track it a few times a year, but drive spirited at least monthly. Im in southern Texas, so we have a fairly low elevation. My guess is with the 2860, i can squeeze a bit more out and see around 380whp max on the stock system, if I'm estimating that correctly. Would with those power goals in mind (380whp/400ftlbs), would there be a need for upgrading the wastegate or could i literally buy the turbo, swap it out, and have it tuned?

    • @EdgeAutosport
      @EdgeAutosport  2 роки тому +1

      We haven't done a video on the wastegate upgrade ...yet. If you remain stock, the wastegate actuator can really help. If you step up to the GTX-series (excellent turbo) that internal wastegate is perfectly capable of handling near-400 horsepower, that would be the higher end of that turbine's capability, yes. Feel free to call our support if you need help deciding on parts, and here is the actuator on our store: edgeautosport.com/turbosmart-wastegate-actuator-ford-focus-st-2013-2018/

    Great vid!
    So question - bought a used 7163 .85 non-WG to put on my 2.0l fusion. it's v-band in/out. Would I just need to get a custom mani made or does someone make an EWG mani out there? Was also wondering if one could just weld on a pipe/flange for an EWG on the full-race mani (which apparently also offer a v-band version?)
    Hope it works out - did wish this video came out sooner though - maybe would have bought something else!

    • @EdgeAutosport
      @EdgeAutosport  3 роки тому +1

      Since I don't know if they ever changed the Fusion from the first EcoBoost model with the same 2.0T as the Focus ST, I'm assuming this is the same type of "headifold" setup, right? If so, you would need to get something custom made to mate the head with that turbo that has an EWG port on it. I suppose you could take something that already exists like the Full Race and modify it but I'm not sure they sell that separately in the EFR vband style flange. I know this is backtracking a little bit, but your best bet is to get the IWG parts and housing with a T25 and buy the Full Race elbow and get a downpipe custom made.
      As far as turbo choice, you made a solid one. We actually used to run that exact turbo with the T25 flange instead and same A/R and it was a beast. We made about 475whp with 2 port aux fuel and it spooled reasonably well on the stock engine. The IWG on those turbo flow plenty and can control boost just fine.
      Let us know what other questions you have or if you need help sourcing these parts. We're happy to help.

    • @EdgeAutosport
      @EdgeAutosport  3 роки тому +3

      Ford isn't wrong. They're saying what they are targeting, not what the max range of the turbo is. You can go higher with tuning.

    • @TMTMS3
      @TMTMS3 3 роки тому +3

      There is an overboost feature in the OE strategy that will allow a short overboost up to 21psi. With tuning, this can be overwritten and you can achieve much higher boost pressures.

      Yes, absolutely worth it. The turbo spools quickly and will barely be working at the stock fuel system limits of the ST. I would think mainly about the G25 series. I guess it depends what you want to make once motor is built and aux fuel is on. But both G25s are plenty capable of lots of power.
