  • I decided to use a different type of paper this time, Cold Pressed, Heavy Weight Watercolor Paper 9X12 and for what I was painting it worked really well.
    I added all the annotations on the colors and brushes but here are the main colors I used: Turquoise, Thalo Blue, Viridian Hue, Cobalt Blue Ultramarine, Indigo, tiny bit of black and of course my favorite white gouache, since I don't like the regular white :)

    Each time I watch one of your videos I think... this is my favorite, then I see another and think no... this is my favorite, but this really is my favorite! I love whales and always wear three whale tail pendants, one adult, and two baby whale tails, so this is an extremely moving scene for me. I live next to the ocean and nothing takes my breath away quite like these magnificent animals. Your ability to capture nature is deep, expressive, and detailed.

    Hey Maria, for masking fluid I find the silicone ended colour shapers are perfect and can be easily cleaned with just a baby wipe after. 🙂

    • @mariamorjane
      @mariamorjane  8 років тому

      Thank you so much for your advice, I'm going to get it for sure :) I also just read you can use a soapy water for the brush before you use it with masking fluid... Interesting

    • @Kyomiibrown
      @Kyomiibrown 8 років тому +1

      Hi Maria, yes soap helps with brushes, but the silicon colour shapers are better, and they will last forever. You can get them in different sizes. From size 0 (like brush size 0) upwards. I also use a ruling pen for really very fine lines. Hope that helps 🙂

    Das ist wieder ein ganz wundervolles Motiv des Ozeans. Wo nimmst du die Motive her? Benutzt du Fotos als Vorlage? Ich fotografiere selbst oder schaue mir Natursendungen im TV an und mache ein paar Fotos, wenn es gute Motive sind.Wenn ich fragen darf, hast du Malerei studiert oder bist du Autodidakt? Schön, dass ich täglich neue Bilder von dir finde, die mir auch immer wieder Motivation geben. Danke. Ich wünsche dir einen wunderschönen Sonntag und liebe Grüße

      Hallo Gabriele, vielen Dank, ich bin ein selbst gelehrter Künstler und habe vor so langer Zeit angefangen. Ich genieße wirklich Aquarelle und was mich anzieht, ist die meisten Farben. Wenn ich also schöne, lebendige Farben sehe, möchte ich es malen. Ich mache dasselbe, fotografiere selbst und wenn ich etwas sehe, das ich im Fernsehen mag, werde ich ein Foto machen und die Dinge etwas einlegen. Manchmal habe ich zu viele bilder zusammen gemacht und es wird zu beschäftigt haha danke so sehr und habe ein schönes wochenende!

    • @mariamorjane
      @mariamorjane  3 роки тому

      Thank you Laurie, it was about 3 hours until I came back to my painting again. You do want to make sure it's 100% dry before starting to paint over it☺️

  • @catcorleone455
    @catcorleone455 7 років тому +1

    Hi, I have a couple of questions. At 1:29 in the video, when you are working on the light at or near the surface of the water, do you wait until the paint is dry? And I am not sure if the only gouache paint is the white, or if the thalo blue and turquoise are also gouache. Or are the blues transparent watercolors?

    • @mariamorjane
      @mariamorjane  7 років тому

      Hi Cat :) the paper wasn't fully dry and white gouache is the only opaque watercolor I used, everything else is a regular transparent watercolor. I will make it more clear, the white I use is called Designer's Gouache color: permanent white, it's an opaque watercolor. Thank you :)

    Such beautiful work, Maria. I just started watercolor 4 weeks ago. How much time did it take you to complete this? We go on whale watches every year and I would love to paint whales and the ocean.

    • @mariamorjane
      @mariamorjane  7 років тому

      HI Robin :) that's so cool you are getting into watercolors, I'm gonna tell you.. it's dangerous because you may get addicted 🤗😋This painting took me about 1.5hrs to finish if I remember well. At the beginning when you are just starting take your time, watch the water and paint on a paper so you can study it and learn to control watercolors 😃

    I want to recreate this but instead of a whale I wanna do a mermaid but still. learning how to paint and I don't have masking fluid I was hoping you could give me some tips. 🌸

    • @mariamorjane
      @mariamorjane  7 років тому +1

      Hi Abianitza 🌺😃You really don't need art masking fluid, it's just easier to paint a full background when you don't have to worry about going over an area that you want to preserve for later. So just try to paint your background around the mermaid first. But make sure you have your pencil sketch. Once you have that sketch it will be so much easier ☺️

      Hi Montzalee, unfortunately I don't... but slowly I am adding to my videos a picture of a pencil sketch ( at the beginning of my videos)... unless I am doing a pencil sketch already in a video. What if you pause the video and blow it up on a full screen of your computer? would you be able to make a pencil sketch then? Thank you so much!!

    • @mariamorjane
      @mariamorjane  7 років тому +2

      Hi Song, you don't need art masking fluid. I mostly just paint around an object. If you color looks weird, it could be your paper? Watercolor paper is very important in watercolors, I use Arches hot Pressed, cold Pressed, rough... I use the brightest whites. for the paints right now I paint with Holbein Watercolors.
