Watercolor Storm with lightening Painting Demonstration

- I got a request to pain a Night Storm with Lightening!
This was an interesting task, as I didn't want to just paint a dark sky and add lightening. I thought it would be more interesting if I made it look like its somewhere in the sea and add a contrast to it, where you can see that storm coming into a land with all the reflections on the water.
I also added annotations on the colors and brushes in the video.
Paper: Hot Pressed Watercolor paper 9X12

I love a good storm! This is stunning. I love how atmospheric it is and how well you reflected the colours in the water. Bravo!
Thank you so much 😀
Fantastic!!!!! I truly lived watching the balls of lightning flashing in the sky as you painted !! You are pure Magic !!!
Thank you so much Cuisle :) I really appreciate all your comments and watching my videos :)
The average person would have no idea how many layers of paint you use. Love the depth, reflection and contrasts.
Thank you for appreciating this :)
Incredible! So happy to have found you here. Thanks for sharing your talent. ❤
Thank you Priscilla! So glad to hear that 🤗!
I don’t have much luck with watercolor, it gets messy and it’s hard to paint with since it’s not as thick as acrylic paint. It also makes my paper wrinkly, but your very good at keeping control of it and I love the way you do art.
Thank you so much🤗🌸I totally understand... watercolor is a very different medium, it's all about controlling water and painting with light layers.. this painting is one of my older ones, I did use more paint then usual here. It's all practice and don't give up on watercolors.. I think since your background is in Acrylics, it's best to completely forget everything you know and start from scratch 😀
You r great maria... I m biggest fan of your arts
thank you so much 🙃😋⭐️
It’s fabulous!!! Thanks for sharing 😊

You may want to try a shaper they have silicone shapes from points to wedges the masking peels right off . lovely tfs
Hi Maria, I don't know anything about a "shaper", I will have to look it up. Thanks for your comment :)
Did you notice that there were water reflections flickering in the clouds, mimicking lightning? I was fascinated by the flickers while you were painting the ocean area. Beautiful painting.
aww thank you so much Marcey :)) yes.. lots of light and reflections :)) thank you so much for appreciating my art! xx
wonderful Maria. This one really took my breath away. Be careful as I am already an old Lady...!

Hi :) Thank you so much!!! You are very kind to say this, I appreciate your comment :) For brand names if you don't mind emailing me directly as I don't disclose name brands on my channel right now, maria@loveoriginals.com Thank you so much!
Lovely dramatic back drop Maria and the contrasts are perfect. Did you use a reference photo?
Hi 🤗Thank you so much, I thought abut this one for a week before I picked up a brush 😃I used maybe four different pictures for reference so that's why there's so much going on in there haha a photo of a beach, then a photo of a night scene at the beach then a storm , then a photo of a night storm, then stormy clouds :) I had an idea what I wanted to paint I just need pictures to make sure I do the lighting right etc 😀
You nailed it as it's very dramatic and beautifully painted 👍
Thank you 😀
Great , another lovely painting really enjoy the technique .what paper do you use Maria ? I have been unable to find one that allows so much water without going badly misshapen .
Hi Hector, Thank you! I use Arches Hot Pressed watercolor 9X12, this one is my favorite, because I do use a lot of water and watercolor :)
beautiful
Thank you Althea :)
Oh my GOD. Your paintings makes me so... I really loves them. ;_; Do you sell them? I hope so. You’re so talented Maria. Keep going, I’m looking foward.
Hi Akumu :) Thank you so much! I'm going to start selling them soon on Etsy, just need to make some prints first and will be all up and ready. I will make an announcement on YouYube, so stay tuned. Thanks a lot!
pretty dear
thank you Carl
I like your "realistic" lightning in the sky! or is it the sunlight coming thru the window??
Hi Beverley :) thank you so much. you got it .. it's the lightning in the sky ;)
Maria Raczynska they’re talking about the sunlight showing on the canvas towards the end of the video because it looks like real lightning flashing. They were just making a joke
GREAT
Thank you Sonia
I'm still a beginner but with each layer i couldn't help thinking... Yes that what i do, balls'd it up again :)
