Greatest cover ever. The band didn't know that Jason was going to be there - Robert tried to invite him, but Jason told him he had a gig that night. He sure did.
Watching Yo Yo Ma rocking out was pure joy. Jason Bonham calls Robert Plant, Jimmy Pagd and John Paul Steven’s his three uncles as they’ve always been there for him after his father died. Only Nancy and Annie could do this epic song justice. It was wonderful seeing how emotional the guys became.
Ann and Nancy Wilson are great friends with Led Zeppelin so I'm sure she had no problems singing this for them!!!! One of the very best female voices EVER!!!🎵🎼🎶🎤🎸🎹🎙🥁🔥🔥🔥🤘🤘🤘
Never ever get tired of seeing this.Arguably, the greatest live cover version, definitely the greatest live cover version performed in front of the original band. A couple of titbits for you Squirrel: The lady between John Paul Jones and Robert Plant was Pat, John's widow and Jason's Mum : The guys invited Jason to join them for the evening but he said he had to decline as he had a gig that night! (which is why Planty points to him at the beginning with a 'oh,you mean this gig!' kinda thing) : Ann and Nancy and the Zep boys go back a long way.Heart have played gigs of just Zep covers in the past and I know Pagey joined them more than once on stage......a superb piece of work and a fitting , emotional tribute
You’re probably around my age and remember when this song was new and became a part of our teenage experience. This tribute was so incredible because they didn’t try to use another popular group to do this song yet again. The people who put this together understood it could not be a cover so they made it an epic performance with dozens of people coming together seamlessly just to do what a few guys did on stage one concert after another.
If music doesn't do to someone what that piece of music did to you, I can't be friends! Her voice, the guitar, the choir! You're right, it was powerful! Love this! 👏👏👏
Robert Plant wanted Jason to be with them in the audience but he said he couldn't because he had a gig that night and couldn't get out of it. That's why Plant got up and pointed down to him. This was the only standing ovation that was given to any of the bands who sang in tribute to Led Zeppelin.
This is possibly the best tribute ever done, glad you found this squirrel its brilliant 👍❤🏴 ps there were a few more tributes to them that night, kid rock was there lenny kravitz and a few more, check it out bro😉
This performance is epic! Plant used to say he didn’t like it when someone covered this song.....until this night. It had to have taken nerves of steel to play this solo in front of the man himself..!
April 8, 1970 - I saw them perform in Dorton Arena, Raleigh, North Carolina. They had released 2 albums at that point. Zep returned for 4 encores and on the 4th, RP said "We don't have anymore songs!" Suggestions from the crowd rang out. The next thing I knew is they said "We'll do Blue Suede Shoes." The Elvis version was the only one I was aware of and I thought it a strange one to choose. But now I understand the whole blues influence. Live and finally learn. The best and my most cherished concert I've ever been to.
This is an EPIC performance! It's from 2012 and Ann was 61 or 62 at the time of the performance and she and Nancy rocked it. I loved the little look to Heaven from Jason to his Dad at the end ... spectacular build from start to finish!
I have watched this so many times and its always the same emotional feeling. I love what Heart did with the song, adding in the orchestra and a choir. Ann's voice is just so amazing!! Plus I love seeing Robert Plant get emotional too.
This version was edited for time for the television broadcast. There is a full version out there that is worth viewing because it includes all the verses.
From Detroit area and every New Years eve they would play the top 100 requested songs for the year. For 10 years this was always #1. You make Robert cry you did something right. The best cover ever!!!!
Wonderful Reaction, Squirrel. The greatest cover of any song I know of. 😂 So much pressure to perform in front of the remaining members of 'Zep; then add the president, and global TV audience! Well done for holding it together. Your comments were 'on the nail'; outstanding. Plant, Page and Jones were deeply affected. Plant looked almost overwhelmed, Page and Jones were thrilled. A Glorious tribute. Look up 'Epic' in the dictionary; that performance is the definition. I struggle to hold it together every time I see it. 😂
It’s been a bit BUT I need to tell you, I felt it as well. I’ve probably watched a dozen of these reactions to this tribute and you are the first one that truly gets the magnitude of what happened that night. WOW! Don’t get me wrong it’s been universally appreciated BUT none really showed they felt it. And for those of us watching that did truly feel it, what an emotional gift to get to be apart of. Truly special and spectacular. Cheers to All!!!
It gets me every time also. It never gets old! Check out the Beetles tribute with Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, Prince & Dani Harrison performing "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" Another one I promise you won't regret ( or get tired of watching)! Also, I just discovered Shawn James doing a cover (not live) of " Ain't no Sunshine" and there's no words!
Squirrel, you're the real deal! Having been a guitar player for 68 years, I have a good idea of greatness! Your reaction to Jason Bonham's drum kicks shows you are far advanced to all other "reactions".
Hey Squirrel,,, I saw this when it first aired on TV,,, and also everyone who has reacted to it.... I know how you feel,,, I teared up when I saw it on TV... Now you need to check out the whole program
This is hands down my favorite tribute!! To see Jason playing on his dads drum kit and the choir wearing bowler hats it's awesome. Ann Wilson is an amazing singer. And kudos to Shane Fontaine for nailing the solo!! You should check out Gretchen Wilson( no relation) covering Heart's song Baracuda with Alice in Chains!!
This is the best tribute ever. A spectacular performance. This particular recording cut out part of the guitar solo. There’s another version of this tribute that has the complete guitar solo.
Hey there Squirrel! Just stumbled across your post from Feb 22, loved your reaction the the Zep tribute by Heart from 2012. Dude fir the first time watching this vid I teared up watching your reaction. I can see that you have lived thru' decades of Zep as I have. I saw them in London at the launch of their 1 st Album. I was 17 yrs old and on the streets having been ripped off by a so-called manager of a group I was in, gear and van goneafter our 1sy gig! I snuck into the Zeo show early in the sound-checks before Audience a US band supported Zep finished their set and made into the audience. Blown away is an understatement! I'll look out for more of your mosts. Big respect fella. Andi
Not sure any others could have pulled this off as well as they did. Robert was very emotional seeing Jason there. Robert had invited Jason to sit with them in place of his father to recieve the Honors. Jason respectfully decline explaining that he had made plans for that night that he couldn't be at...
This is one of the best Kennedy Center tributes ever right up there along side it are Aretha Franklin singing “You Make Me Feel Like a Natural Woman” to Carole King, and Beyonce singing “Proud Mary” to Tina Turner.
hey squirrel. just found you and I loved your reaction. now I'm going to imagine you're going back and watching the entire Kennedy Center's honor did Led Zeppelin including Lenny Kravitz and Kid Rock and boy the whole performance is just stunning. and it'll be worth it to see the full version of the heart tribute. you go guy!
Stairway is one of those songs you should never ever cover....unless you're gonna do it like this. As you said "a beast of a performance". Best tribute ever, as the person below said. (I also said A Whiter Shade Of Pale should never be covered until I heard Annie Lennox's version, so what do I know?)
I found it several years ago, it’s fucking amazing…. I’ll email you later another one on a similar line, which I know you’ll enjoy…..because it’s fucking amazing also but in a different way to this…..
Hi Squirrel I just found your channel on youtube and looking at some of the comic sketches you put up im sitting here laughing away to myself. How comes you have not done the Monty Python Parrot Sketch ? You got to do it.. funny as hell. Watching some of the sketches especially the catherine tate one it reminded me when I was in NY watching Lock Stock & Smoking Barrels some of the London Cockney in the movie they had to put subtitles for Americans. But please have a look at the Python sketch this has to be legendary. All the best fella, im going to sit back this evening and look at your Channel... All the best Marcos from London UK ua-cam.com/video/SvTBkjL6Dxo/v-deo.html
Have to say…. My ❤️ was in my mouth, when it came to Jimmy Page’s oh so glorious “guitar solo”…… yep, he rocked it … all okay 👍🏻 ‘me no likey rock covers when bands cock it up! 🤬’
Great reaction that earned you another subscriber here. I'd love to see you react to this one as well: ua-cam.com/video/qjzJYa7tHLs/v-deo.html Its a live duet from Sarah Brightman and Andrea Bocelli and it's goosebump inducing as it builds to it's ending. Cheers!
Greatest cover ever. The band didn't know that Jason was going to be there - Robert tried to invite him, but Jason told him he had a gig that night. He sure did.
To see Robert Plant cry you know you gave it complete justice
Because he saw Jason played drums..
not only the best tribute performance ever imo but also the best reaction I've seen yet, and I've seen them all. trust me
Best cover of any song ever!! Rock legends playing for rock Gods

Ken I was floored by this. When it went live this morning I listened again and the power is unreal that this produces. Appreciate the info man. 😎🐿👊🏼

Don't know what is better, the look on your face watching this...or the look on their face as they are watching..either way...priceless!
I'm not sure if this was mentioned, but Ann Wilson was 62 years old when this tribute was recorded in 2012. What a set of pipes!
Wow impressive
From Detroit area and every New Years eve they would play the top 100 requested songs for the year. For 10 years this was always #1. You make Robert cry you did something right. The best cover ever!!!!
When the Kennedy Center asked Jason Bonham if he would play the drums, he said yes BUT only if Ann and Nancy Wilson performed the song.
And as we wind down on the road,
Our shadows taller than our souls...
Without doubt one of the most awesome covers ever done... Its perfection and if it doesn't make you cry there is something wrong with you...
I've said it before; this isn't just a great song sung well, it's an experience.
Best reaction to this amazing tribute!
Thank You Vicki
