For your own enjoyment, listen to the FULL VERSION, this was edited for tv, took out some lyrics and edited the guitar solo - Criminal. The full version has much better audio with Ann's voice out front.
Plant had invited Jason to join them, Jason said he couldn’t because of a commitment, Plant is Jason’s godfather. So they were so surprised to see him playing, & so proud of him. Jason was playing on his fathers kit, & wearing his father’s bowler hat, he did his father proud. This is the only cover of this song I love, they did amazing. Jack Blacks speech is so funny & great, a huge Led Zeppelin fan, especially letting him use The Immigrant Song. Thanks for your reaction.
"they sang songs about love............. about vikings......... about vikings making love...... you know, they say they sold their souls to Satan..... c'mon guys you know you did." Jack Black
Drummer here. Jason is a very good drummer. Jason was the drummer for heart when I saw them perform. The first half of the show they did Zepplin covers, and heart always nails it. The second half they played hearts songs. Ann Wilson knocked it out of the park. Excellent show. I love this performance of the song. I think plant was emotional because everyone in the choir was wearing a derby in honor of John Bonham. one thing I know is that Robert Plant and John Bonham were very close friends even before zeppelin formed.
For crying out loud Justin So glad you came around. After all it was a tribute to one of the greatest songs ever 😂 Everyone was there and yes that was the awesome Yo Yo Ma ! I have watched this many times and I love it… Plant’s tears say it all ✌🏼🌷
I went to school the same time as Jason, we are the same age and we helped bands locally in Worcestershire. He married a school friend. Growing up in Kidderminster, you could not escape the amazingness of zeppelin 😊
He's sweet. Loved to hear his stories about his dad and how Jason wasn't impressed with him. He liked the police 😊. Then he heard stairway to heaven. He was here in chicago a few years ago. His band is fantastic.
Stairway to Heaven. The song that every dork thinks he can play... when he really can't. But this is Heart. Who can. The members of Zep were clearly happy to see a song that's butchered and dishonored SO often done right.
Plant has said that he really doesn't like covers of this song. This one he said wasn't "bad" and he actually enjoyed it. But you can see Jones and Paige getting into it. Ann Wilson I think nailed it. great reaction. keep em coming.
First saw this a couple of years ago and it brought a tear in my eye then and it still does. A truly magical rendition of the classic Zeppelin song. You should check out the Celebrations Day reunion concert of Led Zeppelin in 2007. Jason Bonham is on the drums and believe me Justin his father John would have been so proud of him!
You got to listen to the original performance by Led Zeppelin. Their version is the most listened to version on radio till today, setting a world record. Also the Zeppelin version has the most scintillating live performance and guitar solo in the history of music.
Hard to believe an arrangement for a tv tribute could be this good. I love how they made it their own without straying to far. You're not wrong towards the end the choir over powers Ann could be a limitation of live performance and their proximity.
Robert is so emotional because Jason and the Choir were wearing were John Bonham's signature hat. Check out the celebration day concert where Jason is drumming. He did his father justice ❤ Peace out ✌️ ☮️
The reason why Plant looked a bit off was because he really doesn't like when people perform Stairway. He even refuses to do it himself, but he was trying not to cry during this because this time he loved it and told Ann and Nancy that later on.
It’s well known that Plant hates it when other artists play Stairway to Heaven. That being said he told everyone that Ann and Nancy did this song better than he has heard anyone do
If you want to see more of Jason Bonham, check out the Celebration Day concert at the O2 arena. Jason fills in as Robert, Jimmy, and John Paul put on an epic performance of a string of Zeppelin hits.
Justin…. I’m SO SORRY to say this, but: OHHH. NOOOOO!! There are TWO versions of this performance on UA-cam, and you unwittingly picked THE. WRONG. ONE. (This video is NOT. Heart’s FULL performance, it’s been edited down for broadcasting and is about TWO MINUTES SHORTER than the entire performance. The full thing is a HUNDRED TIMES BETTER. (This edited version sounds/feels “homogenized” in comparison.) The full video IS also on UA-cam; it has “FULL VERSION” in the heading, and the opening shot image is of the outside of the building. …Most reactors “don’t seem to care” when they make the mistake of watching this shortened version, but I feel that you’re a “serious” reactor, Hon, and that you’d be interested in seeing Heart’s FULL performance in its entirety. So, this is an entreaty: PLEASE REACT TO THE FULL VERSION🙏🏻
CBS edited down the performance to fit into the time slot as others, Foo Fighters and Lenny Kravitz had performed ahead of Heart. Somewhere out there is a version that says “full version” that includes the verses and reactions that were edited out. Take another good look at Plant’s face, his eyes are very watery and it looks like he’s struggling to hold back some tears. And yes that was Yoyo Ma. Sadly Ann announced today that she had surgery and they found cancer so she’s cancelled her current tour with Nancy while she under goes preventative chemotherapy.
Stunning performance by Heart, et al. I love this and all the splendor that is attached to it to celebrate the event. Good job on the review, Justin. Picking it apart really isn't necessary since it is meant to be over the top, but I do agree that Ann got a bit overpowered in parts by the choir and strings but that's okay, she has a powerful enough voice to bring it anyway. What I find to be the most interesting is that with just 4 people on the stage, Led Zeppelin made this song equally spectacular, back in the day. Where these old rock bands are concerned, it always seems like it takes an army of performers to even begin to recreate what they did so minimally.
It's a thing isn't it... knowing how you would like to hear it... and reacting to what is going on with the arrangement... Robert Plant was like that because he was fighting back tears....!! You can see at the end that he's wiping them out of his eyes... As for Jason Bonham... Zep got back together for a one off concert in 2007 as a tribute to Ahmet Ertegun who founded their record label Atlantic, and Jason plays the who concert with them..... Basically filling his dads chair..... search youtube for Zep - Celebration Day and you can get an idea of his chops. In fact I would recommend reacting to "Kashmir" from that concert.... Robert Plant at 59 could still do it... And then some. Keep on Rocking man.
Nobody plays like Bonzo, but for the 07 celebrations concert, Jason study his fathers drumming for all the songs. He said he didn’t know which ones they’d pick, so he does a pretty damn great job in his fathers place. I will always prefer Bonzo over any other drummer, my opinion he was the greatest.
I get it where you're coming from, but agree that in the end the song was the star and so the mix was fine. If you wanted to focus on any one thing then yes, that's a personal preference over the whole.
This is the CBS edited version of the performance. It's overly edited and doesn't fully show Ann's powerful voice. There is an unedited version that is the full performance.
You're right about the mix on Ann Wilson's voice at the end is low. It was probably impossible to mix her over the choir so maybe they should have had fewer singers.
Not sure if it was a recording issue that Ann sounded overpowered?? However, for me if Zeppelin gave them a standing ovation, I'm satisfied. I think Robert Plant always said he hated covers of that song, but afterwards went up to Ann Wilson and said she had done a good job.
Dude. First time visitor. If you’re “not sold” on Jason Bonham….(and why would you be with one performance?). I would STRONGLY suggest that you watch the “Led Zeppelin” Celebration Day O2 London concert from 2007….which was released as a DVD in 2012……it’s on UA-cam. same year as this tribute, btw. Jason did a fantastic job. He’s a top-notch professional drummer….playing these days with Sammy Hagar, Glenn Hughes, Joe Bonamassa…..If he weren’t top-grade, those guys wouldn’t have him. He’s not one of the best who ever lived, like his dad…but then, there are very few who reach the stratosphere in any field. So, if you’re looking for him to be his dad, then no. Nor do I think he equals Mike Portnoy or Danny Carey. But equal to other rock drummers like Anton Fig, or Steve Jordan, then definitely yes. Maybe even as good as Dave Grohl. Plus, he has his own Zeppelin tribute band, which I’ve seen live. And they’re GOOD!
When given a choice when picking videos, please always do the longest one. It is usually the uncut version. This, unfortunately, was edited, but still great!
There's another version with more balanced sound and way better camera angles. You can hear Ann blasting over the orchestra. She was in her early 60s. She's a badass
Yo yo ma yes. His kennedy center tribute was awesome. Try carlis santana kennedy center honors. Its awesome. Also try Luciano pavarotti singing Nessun Dorma from the opera turandot. The three tenors concert i think. That will ahock you, trust me.
My main criticism of this video is the featuring of certain people that are fleeting pop culture names (apart from Obama and his wife) that no one will know years from now.
The version you watched was the shorter one! There's another one that's the full song and not truncated like this one was, and where Ann's voice wasn't lost among it all. IOW, this video had a crappy mix!
I've seen this many times, but every time I hear it, my reaction is "that mix is bad." It is so very difficult to cover an iconic song by an iconic band, but I felt Heart did it as well as it could be done. I'm curious who did the arrangement and how much input the actual performers had with it.
For your own enjoyment, listen to the FULL VERSION, this was edited for tv, took out some lyrics and edited the guitar solo - Criminal. The full version has much better audio with Ann's voice out front.

THE best cover of any song, by anyone, ever. It just gets better every time I hear it.
Yes👍🏽❤️
Jason is an excellent Drummer. I think the problem is people compare him to his dad.
I love how Jimmy was watching intently at his song, his baby😅
I just saw Robert Plant and Alison Krause July 7, 2024 at Hershey Park Stadium, PA.....Standing ovations for them. I was back in my teens again
too bad you listened to the cut down version. That being said, you recognized Yo Yo Ma! Wonderful!

Agree with everything you said, BUT Robert missed his best buddy 😢 and so do we ✨️
A beautiful thing this is. Ty for reaction sir. As someone else mentioned, Heart is really the only band that should ever cover Zep. 😊
I stood up in my living room watching this on TV when it happened. Goose bumps every single time!

The Best Ever Cover of that Great Song. 👍 ❤
Having heard OG Stairway about a million times on the radio, I'm just about burned out on the song, but I can listen to this version all day.
I was too, but I’ve fallen in love with it again, especially seeing the live version from MSG (1973).
Watch the full version to see more of Ann Wilson's performance. This one was shortened with a lot edited out - the longer one is also on youtube.

There is a 23 minute video of the whole zeppelin tribute section. It's pretty good. As well as a longer version of this song.
The reason why Plant looked a bit off was because he really doesn't like when people perform Stairway. He even refuses to do it himself, but he was trying not to cry during this because this time he loved it and told Ann and Nancy that later on.
Another reacter doing the shorter version. Another reacter I will not watch again. Butchery! For a minute or a bit more?
No excuse for it.
Reaction Dimas stairway to heaven
Fyi, the band had no idea Jason was going to play. Thats why they were so surprised
There are some recordings in which you can hear Ann much better; she was epic, try the "full" version.

Anne actually had a cold during this, crazy enough.
Jason was incredible in the Celebration Day concert from 07. The choir could have been 3db lower and had just as much impact.
I agree, his performance in the Celebration Day concert was very good. I particularly thought he was epic when they performed Kashmir.
When given a choice when picking videos, please always do the longest one. It is usually the uncut version. This, unfortunately, was edited, but still great!

Ya, there's a better and longer mix of this, don't know why but there you go. I prefer the vocal level and guitar solo in the other one. :)
Choir was great but I would have preferred more Ann Wilson. I thought the same about Robert Plants reaction 😂
Your a 1% in the choir comment, out of 100s reactions
I thought the choir washed out Anne Wilson at the end & her single voice would serve the song better. But as an epic ya, it hits.
I've seen this multiple times and my only problem with it is the choir drowning out Ann's voice at the end.
I've seen this many times, but every time I hear it, my reaction is "that mix is bad." It is so very difficult to cover an iconic song by an iconic band, but I felt Heart did it as well as it could be done. I'm curious who did the arrangement and how much input the actual performers had with it.
I agree the choir was too loud for me too. It did showcase the song but all in all a little bit over top. Anne Wilson's voice excellent
I would have preferred to just have Heart perform the song without all the strings and choir and whatnot.
Here is my Justin comment: I didn’t love the guitarists bends in the solo for some reason. He did fine I guess. It was fine. But not spectacular.
Makes sense to me lol
@@JustinPanariello to properly perform a boomer bend you need an actual boomer. 😂
