What a fine recap, and I havnt even seen 1883. But having lived in Paradise Valley, raised a young family, and felt the land, I appreciate the memories!
I so appreciate your recap!!! I only saw the first three free episodes of 1883 and was unable to subscribe to Paramount Plus to watch the rest. It pained me, as every aspect of the production captivated me. 1883 was a revelation to me in so many ways about the post Civil War time period in our history. I was newly awed by the courage, fortitude and suffering our families endured to make that journey across a unwelcoming landscape I know well. My family moved to the land above Doans crossing during the 1880s. Again thanks for the time and effort you put in to make this video! Good job!
When I see you will be doing the commentary,I go straight on to your video. I like your soothing voice . Your add straight, no nonsense comments laced with empathy, humor, and compassion. Thank you BenjaTv.
Thank you so much for your recap on 1883. I really appreciate the way you told the story it brought a lot of things to life and reminded me of what I did see of the movie. You have a great understanding way of telling stories thank you again.
You did such a fantastic job giving us a look inside the episodes. Your commentary was splendid and fun....sprinkled with humorous narration. Thankyou for doing all that work.
I can’t help but wonder if things would’ve unfolded differently if Elsa kept her native made cowboy wear on instead of obeying her mother & changing into her dress when they were headed to the military fort/base trying to catch up to the rest of the convoy, would the natives they encounter & are attacked by seen her dressed in such a way may have had a much different outcome? And henceforth not ended w/ Elsa receiving a fatal wound resulting in her demise? Would her & her family journeyed further & settled somewhere else? Would eventually Lightning w/the Yellow Hair be reunited w/ Sam? This one choice Elsa made, the choice to obey her mother when countless times before she always chose not to obey that which was set by the social norms of that time, the social norms her mother strived to enforce upon her, could’ve changed everything for the Dutton family & their ranch.
I thought about that too…but you never know what decision will change the course of your life, and the lives of those who are affected. Many nuances in this series…
Her experience of understanding her future and not fearing death is commonly seen in hospice. Hospice workers call it "terminal lucidity." It's worth looking up.
Also, people who are very ill, on the verge of death, may have a time were they start looking like he or she is "getting better". He or she may perk up, request food, drink and such, start talking when they weren't. It'll fool the family, thinking the individual is "pulling through " but it'll stop, then the individual will pass away shortly afterwards....I think this too, may be a part of that..
I really enjoyed this. I love the way you broke everything down to give us the most complete picture of it all that you could. I think you did an excellent job telling this story. Well done. You just got a new subscriber 👍🏻
You missed part of Elsa's passing . The pact she made with her indigenous husband. They said they would meet in the spot where they parted in life. In her death she went back to that spot in her death and he was there. That must mean he died too! That's my observation. 🤷🏾♀️
As a first-time viewer, I’m very impressed with both your channel, and level of excellence. I’m now a new subscriber, and truly appreciate your generosity in sharing your work with the world. Thank you...
Can t get into this one like I do with Yellowstone. Faith and Tim are my ment for acting as well as they do for their singing. They are truely beautiful country singers. Love their voices
It took me a couple episodes to get into this because I guess, being a Taylor Sheridan show, I wanted/expected something more like "Yellowstone". But, as I got more into "1883," I appreciated it for what it was. It was a tough, painful story to tell. It is a completely different type of story than "Yellowstone", so you can't go in expecting that. I had no idea that Tim McGraw and Faith Hill were such good actors. They'd both acted before, but Tim has been in several other films. I was very impressed with Faith Hill considering she'd had less acting experience. But, of course, the actress who plays Elsa, Isabel May, is phenomenal! This series will take you through every single emotion possible!
There's many great stories floating around the imagination of Taylor Sheridan, including of course the magnificent Yellowstone series and movies Sicario and Hell Or High Water. Thing is, without his brilliant direction and a cast who are nothing short of extraordinary, these stories would remain unheard. With that in mind, we fans of Sheridan's work are very much looking forward to seeing Harrison Ford and Dame Helen Mirren in the sequel to 1883, called '1923', coming to Paramount+ in December 2022.
I feel in love with all the Yellowstone episodes. I was aware Taylor Sheridan is the creator of “SICARIO” love that movie, had to buy the dvd. Thank you Taylor, keep ‘em coming! You’re fantastic!!❤❤❤❤❤
@@BenjaTV Welcome and much appreciation again! Say, Benja, will you consider reviewing BILLY THE KID on EPIX that's premiering on April 24th or DARK WINDS on AMC? They're both new Western/Western-style series and look pretty good!!
In appreciation to the fans of Yellowstone, for their section to the show, 1883 decides to put it on para+ where you have to pay. Shame on that decision.
I miss the cast and the western front and the stories that these remarkable characters portrayed of the American west and how they struggled, and survived through horrific experiences but then again that’s the West and how it was, it’s important too see and feel the wonderment, the sacrifices they had to make to keep looking for their home and start a new life!🙏❤️💚
Thank you for the fabulous recap of 1883............it is a shame that all of 1883,the 6666’s and Yellowstone are not all shown on Amazon Prime........I’m sure they would have made a fortune as most people have Amazon, but I’ve not heard a good word about Paramount.......and therefore will not sign up for it......thanks..........Donna in Toronto
Thank you, BenjaTV for this clear and concise review of the 1883 Prequel.. I loved Yellowstone, but the 1883 series had too much violence, chaos, blood and death in it for my taste. Your 'Recap and Breakdown' was the summary that I needed to satisfy my curiosity. Great Job !👍👍👍
In 2020, when flying wasn’t an option, i was lucky enough to go on the very same journey the characters went on. Starting in my hometown of Fort Worth all the way up to Yellowstone National Park through Wyoming and back down through Utah. Although way easier now, that path goes through some of the most unforgiving landscapes - with Wyoming being almost haunting with so many stretches of nothing and windy AF. The show not only captured Fort Worth, which we don’t see a lot due to Dallas being more popular, but it also highlights how rough it was for both the people that were already on this side of the world and the settlers that tried to find their own place. Having the dangers of the USA be the main antagonist really made the characters’ journey almost hopeless.
Thank you for your recap, I didn’t realize the two men were Pinkerton boys. I missed that completely. I watched this series when I found 1923 movie, who recommended watching it first. I haven’t watched any of Yellowstone yet, either. Now that I’m watching your recap, after this series, at least I’m a little more informed (Duttons).
Empire of the Summer Moon. It’s a great book that basically talks about there time in Texas. A woman was scalped and lived to tell that tale before passing 2 days later.
You're pretty good at this I really enjoyed yours more than most of the clowns out there who disguise their voice and come up with their own predictions for the future episodes
James Dutton is not John Dutton IV 's (Yellowstone) Great-Grandfather, he is his Great-Great -Grandfather. John Dutton the Ist (James' 5 year old boy in 1883) is John the IV's Great-Grandfather. His son John the II (called Jack in 1923) is John the IV's grandfather. His son is John III and is John IV (Kevin Costner's) father.
Given that they did several films together, it would've been so cool to have seen Tom Selleck in this as well, and have a scene with him and Sam Elliott together.
It's 8/9/2023 and the final episode will air on the 13th. 4 days from now. I watched this bc I wasn't sure I could handle it in real time. I've been trying to believe that Elsa somehow survives. Thanks to you, I will have some time to come to terms with it. Even so, I must say that I can't help but feel like this entire season was a catastrophe. On the one hand, there are the immigrants who are realized the dream of coming to America, only to decide that their dream isn't [just] America anymore, but selfishly somewhere dangerously further away. Then there's James , who quite frankly knew the harm he would be putting himself and worse, his family in to pursue his dream of relocating across a harsh, barren and unforgiving land fought with danger from the ground up. In the end he loses his self described 'heart " in Elsa, later, his own life in the process, and his wife's life to the cold. Had James stayed where he was, he could have watched Elsa grow into a fine adult woman. Enjoyed his grand kids and all would have most likely stayed alive to play out their latter years. Can you remember even one joyous occasion, [or moment] in this series? Kind of depressing when you think about it! Thanks Dan=
TBH, James Dutton should've just driven their belongings all the way to the destination and let the women and children take the train all the way to Oregon. Then maybe just maybe more than just James, Margaret & John would still be alive in 1883. But, Elsa was the star attraction, so it wasn't in the cards.
What's crazy is this movie is doing to Montana what the actors in the show are trying to prevent. Unless your rich, it's hard to afford to live in Bozeman now. Can this show spend some of its big profits on affordable housing in Bozeman? Nope, just profiting from Bozeman, right?
I'm surprised that they killed off the female young lady character that was horrible but it's very realistic Way back then young people tended to be more adventurous and in a country that is completely Untamed death to happens suddenly through disease and misfortune
A Lakota attack in the year 1883? When the so called Indian Wars ended in 1878, except for the Apache lead by Geronimo that surrended in 1886? It' s really funny how you Americans dont know your own history.

Most 20th cent. cowboy movies/tvshows, with a w. lead are built on romanticisation and rewriting of history anyway. It's a core tenant of the genre.

You have the generations wrong, James is John Dutton’s great, great grandfather. The little son of James is the great grandfather of John Dutton.
