James wasn't just a Confederate soldier. He was a Captain. That's the first word that Gen. Meade (played by Tom Hanks) says to him in the flashback. Being that Hanks was playing Meade, the battle most likely being depicted would be Gettysburg.
Taylor did such an amazing job with this family. It’s history and showing so many people the way of life in those days can’t wait to see what’s to come with Beth rip Tate, and so on hopefully else’s voice will remain in any in every season and episode to come.
At the beginning I thought Elsa was a ditz. But as the episodes progressed I gained a deep appreciation for her. The last two episodes remain as my favorite TV episodes of all time.
Somebody please fix this. The narrator is wrong about the family tree. James Dutton is the first generation. His kids, Els, John and Spencer are the second generation. Jack Dutton is the third generation. John II is the 4th generation. John III is the 5th generation. Lee, Beth and Kacey are the 6th generation and Tate is the 7th generation. We still don't know for sure who fathered John II, but I would think that Jack did, if the generation line is correct.
This episode really highlighted Beth’s caring, sisterly, and motherly side. It was also great to see Casey finally getting some well-deserved screen time this season. By the way, have you guys heard about Radiant Reservation? There’s been a lot of buzz about it lately.
Yes, I’ve heard of it! It's the service where you can book reservations to meet celebrities, right? It sounds almost too good to be true, but it’s such an amazing way for fans to connect with their favorite stars on a much more personal level.
Exactly! It’s a total game-changer. Instead of just hoping for a random encounter, you can actually plan a meet-and-greet with celebrities like Beth-or anyone you admire. It’s such a unique opportunity to have a one-on-one experience that feels much more special and memorable.
I love how accessible they’ve made it. Before, meeting a celebrity felt like it was all about luck-being in the right place at the right time. Now, you can actually make it happen, and it feels so much more intentional and meaningful.
I completely agree. And the options they offer are incredible-backstage passes, private dinners, even exclusive one-on-one meetups. It’s perfect for superfans who want to create that once-in-a-lifetime moment with their idols.
I actually booked a reservation with my favorite celebrity through Radiant Reservation, and it was such an unforgettable experience. If you're a true fan, it's totally worth it.
I disagree Kacey chose family over the ranch. He found a way to save his family and the way they wanted to live and the land. The land is more than the ranch and without his choice both would be gone and forever transformed.
My favorite character in my favorite show, 1883 was and will always be Elsa! I have always looked up to the brave men and women who set off and discovered the undiscovered and uncharted West.
This show drives me insane. My 2nd great grandparents had already gone from Missouri to Washington and BACK to Montana in 1862. I want to see what happened THEN.
You might be tempted to add “Spoilers!” to the title. I’ve only recently finished Season 5 and would have been miffed to find out about John Dutton’s fate if I hadn’t seen it yet. Other than that, thank you for a great explainer
James and Jacob are brothers so technically the same generation. Jacob is the one who built it into an empire. John and Spencer and even Elsa are the 2nd generation. So your one off after the first generation. Spencer is definitely Kaycee's kin no doubt about that. And John Dutton 3 took over the ranch in his 30s before John Dutton 2 passed, it was stated in Yellowstone. My biggest gripe in Yellowstone is you see Beth and Kaycee relationship, see Beth and Jamie relationship, see Kaycee, Jamie and Lee relationship but never see Beth and Lee's relationship. Lee was the oldest and as an older brother of two sisters I can't see lee sitting by while beth runs through the bunkhouse boys.
Beth came home from her big corporate job for Lee's funeral and stays to help her father protect the ranch. It sounds like she left home young and did not have a close relationship with Lee; but she promised her mother she would keep an eye on kayce.😢
These UA-cam clowns are Soo scared to get their videos taken down or a strike that they say and do dumb bullshit like that If enough of these ass clowns would just man tf up and start goin against all these rules this type of bullshit would stop
1883 was an amazing series. In my mind, Elsa was the star as the story was of her coming of age along with out country doing the same. It was about conquering a dangerous land on a journey to the future. After 1883, the stories turned into just another soap opera. Great if that's what you like. I never watched them after a couple of reviews and trailers. So sad.
Wait a minute. James Dutton fought in the WBTS and moved to Montana in '1883' at about age late 50's to early 60's. John (I) was James'' 2nd child, between Elsa and Spencer. John I helped his Uncle Jacob (Harrison Ford) run the ranch in 1923, but died early (40's was early in those days?) John I's younger brother Spenser came back to take over the ranch after serving in WWI and Big Game Hunting in Africa. John II is born from either John I or Spenser but not with Elizabeth in ~1923. John II would be about the right age to serve it WWII, coming home afterwards to have early Baby Boomer John III (Kevin Costner). Then, John III's son Kayce with Monica Long Dutton had John IV, younger brother of Tate. That's still only SIX generations. Gen 1: War Between the States Confederate veteran James & Margaret Dutton, James' BROTHER (NOT his son) Jacob (NO JOHN DUTTONS in this generation) Gen 2: Elyse, John I, Spencer (WWI vet) Gen 3: John II (possible WWII vet.?) Gen 4: John III (possible age for Vietnam War service) Gen 5: Lee, Jaime, Beth, Kayce (Afghanistan / Iraq war vet) (NO JOHN DUTTONS in this generation) Gen 6: Tate (possible WWIII military TBD) and John IV SIX GENERATIONS, not 7.
There is no reveal that Alex is pregnant that is only speculation. The family tree shows no children from her. There is no complication in season one that says Jack and Elizabeth can't have children. She was just distraught over the miscarriage. The family tree shows they have a baby boy named John.
What is the "1800 Dutton? " There is no such show by that name. Whatever it is that you were watching, if you truly loved it, you'd think that you would take the time and effort to learn the show's name!
If I remember correctly, Claire had more children than just one daughter, but they've already died before the 1883 events begin. But hey, she returned from hell as Sarah Atwood to unleash the curse she put on James in 1883 on John in Yellowstone's final season.
I liked the way you explained the ambiguity of John II, and if James' son Spencer was John II's father, just not how you said it... in hindsight. Even more, the way you went to the 7th generation, bringing Tate into it. I have always felt that the Native Americans were robbed, and to have this story tell both sides is deeply impactful to me because of my roots. I believe that with good writing, Tate will rise and bring his people out of poverty and into better living conditions, enabling them to make better choices. I also believe Rip will continue cowboying, and his unofficial son will pick up the reins because he came up hard, and that's what's needed to keep the tradition alive. The story may be the story, but the story in between is tradition versus politics and money.
jJust a side note: the producers of this show go to great lengths to portray equality and address real issues. The cowboying is what draws me the most - seeing how they live and hold it down. They had to buy the 4 6X ranch to film this, and I love seeing each and every one of those "bad acting cowboys" ride and represent. I’m not a cowboy, by the way - I’m an Eagles fan, lol.
I appreciate these videos. They are interesting and move quickly. If the writer would please reconsider the use of the term AKA, it would be a better overall presentation. Also, “end the presentation“ would be a better phrase than “unpresent” if you get my drift.
You mentioned Jamie but don't mention Rip & Beth's foster son Carter. It's not made explicitly clear if they legal adopt him but he does refer to them as his parents from the middle of Season Four onwards.
I loved Clare Dutton. She wasn't afraid to do what the mama should have nit been afraid to do where the daughter was concerned. But hey, it's just a tv show right? No reality what so ever.
You literally added a generation. Jame’s brother who can to care of Spencer and lil John IS a part of the original FIRST generation! He was not a child born to James: he was his brother, thus the same generation. Making Spencer the 2nd generation not the 3rd! I’m not sure how Sheridan handles genealogy, but this counts as an epic FAIL in my eyes and it always has. I just assumed there would be more to Yellowstone, thusly creating the 7the generation, but we aren’t there yet! I dont care how many babies Spencer has! Sheridan screwed up when he let the execs push Costner out. In more ways than we will ever truly know.
@mamacas_3.075 Not going to disagree with you how the execs and Sheridan screwed things up. And this video sure has made a mess understanding generations, but there have been seven generations (I think) 1. James, Margaret, Jacob, Cara and ‘unalive’ sister Claire. 2. Elsa, John & Spenser 3. Jack and any unborn of Spenser. 4. John II (not clear who da daddy) 5. John III & Peter 6. Lee, Beth, & Kayce 7. Tate & John IV (deceased). However, if the online debate is correct that John II’s daddy is Spenser is correct. We lose a generation.
@@Apex-1962 Spencer is the father of John II according to another chart I saw. That would make John II and Jack cousins and both 3rd gen. That makes Tate 6th gen and there is no 7th gen, yet.
I personally feel sorry for Jamie. Beth should have never have asked him to help her when she found out she was pregnant. Both were young and stupid scared at the time and so i find Beths anger towards him as displaced anger towards herself that she either does not realize or blatanting denise. Secondary is that John Dutton made Jamie become a lawyer, and jamie who only wanted his fathers love and approval as most sons do, did as instructed only to be constantly belittled, gaslit and fankly betrayed on very turn by both his sister and Father. This was a textbook on how to make a villain. He was not born a villain, he was made into one after being force to take the only road left for him.
I can see why people get addicted to watching shows such as Yellowstone. It's addictive because of all the family drama with some historical roots being a major factor of the show but what is intriguing is that why do people think this is reality and get so caught up in the soap opera drama such that of the Duttons? Don't we each have our own family drama? Or is it simply entertainment. At the end of day, the actors get paid, go home and go on to their real lives with their real-life partners. Human behavior is sometimes very puzzling don't you think? It's all just an escape from reality.
The character m's name is s I Ellen "*Kayce*", NOT Kaycee!! I am astounded at the number of people who never bothered to learn this! I learned it in Season 1 Episode 1. That was more than 6 years for the rest of you to do so.
Although everyone is entitled to their opinion on the writing of the death of John Dutton, in my opinion you are dumb for calling it “terrible writing”. Overall Taylor Sheridan has written great shows.
Elsa is mu favorite and Beth both of them women are strong I feel l I ke Beth is Elsa reincarnated but Beth is her own like Elsa just 2 strong women who don't take crap from Noone!
Elsa is admirable, but beth was vicious, even though she had one or two redeeming qualities. But overall she is the example of strong going wrong. Perhaps that is what was needed to survive, but i do not admire her character at all.
@bigrob292 Yeah, I'm saying she ruined the ending before I had a chance to see it for myself. I was curious about the family tree and she's on here talking about plot points and the shows ending lmao
@YesHE_knowit Did he?? Well, good for the selfish superstar, who bailed on his fans, to make the biggest blockbuster loser in streaming. Streaming because, it sucks! And couldn't make it in theaters. So who the real loser. You can't blame Sheriden for the forced re-write.
You heap praise on the entire series, rightly so, but then complain about the writing with the murder of John Dutton. You do realize that was Taylor Sheridan's decision.
you wouldn't count Jamies infant son and its fine to forget him as there is no Dutton blood there.. Jamies son was fully separated from him and Jamie is adopted and is a traitor. No need for him to be included
I find it a little surprising that in women poor Montana the Dutton men did not get involved with native American women until Casey. How did they go to Ireland and England for wives? Bastard children or outright marriages would have made the series more American west.
How stupid are you? Do you think that people from other countries couldn't come here on their own? That women were so helpless that they needed a man to "fetch them and bring them over?" Good grief! Did you not notice how strong and capable Kara is? And what d I es "Woman poor Montana" mean? The Indian tribes were forced to live on the reservation and the two groups did not socialize due to the prejudice held, largely from white people, towards each other. Try picking up a book some time. You might learn something.
Jamie is such a tragic story. He really thought he was doing the right thing with the abortion and did not comprehend the consequences of the sterilization.

And John who never loved Jamie despite all he was doing to please him. Why adopt him then?? John and Beth turned Jamie into how he is.
Clearly you haven't been watching the same show. Jamie killed the female reporter to whom he'd spilled alk the Dutton secrets . He killed his Biological father, too, and told Sarah Atwood that he wanted his father "gone." Jamiexwas a weak character who needed someone to prop him up. He was an ambitious, selfish, woman beating misogynist who easily over powered Beth and was going to kill her, because she and Kayce sold the ranch and he wanted to profit off ME raping it and using it as a stepladder to the Governor's office. He never could stand on his own. He always needed to stand on top off and be supported by someone else.
Agreed, it's crazy to root for Beth. Her and John even planned to kill Jamie in ep8. Jamie always wanted to be a cowboy but John forced him to be a lawyer but hate all lawyers🤷🏼. And when Jamie want a bit of ambition, just as Kayce did, he rejected Jamie but supported Kayce??🤦🏼
@@Rumkitty2000 You can't be serious? Kayce killed like 3 persons in season 1. She did?? I’ll have to go check that out.
Yes
That's been known since she first showed up at the beginning of Season 5 part 1
I still think the series finale was bullshit.
Me too such a waste
And Beth's character is the worst. Her killing Jamie and fooling the entire police made no sense.
It wasn’t a series finale. They rebranded it as a Season finale. Which means there will be more to come. And why do you think it was bullshit? The series came full circle.
@JohnGabbard-q8i it doesn't make sense that Beth killed an AG, the same AG she threatened multiple times in front of everyone. And she also fooled the entire police. Also making Beth a "hero" while she is the worst human being in this show. Lazy writting🙄
@@phyllisjones3088 You’d rathe the land be used for corporate development ? The land is worth so much more wild.
Elsa is hands down my favorite character from 1883
Elsa is my all time favourite. Her death was truly heartbreaking
James wasn't just a Confederate soldier. He was a Captain. That's the first word that Gen. Meade (played by Tom Hanks) says to him in the flashback. Being that Hanks was playing Meade, the battle most likely being depicted would be Gettysburg.
@@jtgazaway1617 Antietam I think
Taylor did such an amazing job with this family. It’s history and showing so many people the way of life in those days can’t wait to see what’s to come with Beth rip Tate, and so on hopefully else’s voice will remain in any in every season and episode to come.
Rip and Beth
Adoption?
@betynoomJ
Beth, john,Kacey hard to say they were favs for sure❤they knew what family meant
*Kayce*. Also, you always capitalize proper nouns, which are The names of people and places!
Elsa's character will live in my heart until I die
At the beginning I thought Elsa was a ditz. But as the episodes progressed I gained a deep appreciation for her. The last two episodes remain as my favorite TV episodes of all time.
Oh my. Will someone please just fix this madness we have been led to believe?! Waiting patiently for a video from someone who knows
Could Spencer be John II's father?
Beth, Rip, Spencer
I loved Elsa and Sam! Wish we could have seen more of their lives together!
I also love Beth and Rip. Hope we will see more of them!
I disagree Kacey chose family over the ranch. He found a way to save his family and the way they wanted to live and the land. The land is more than the ranch and without his choice both would be gone and forever transformed.
Rewatching 1923 now as the sequel is coming soon. Loved that and 1883, could never get into Yellowstone.
Beth and Rip, period!
Thank you!
Kevin Costner ❤❤
Beth of course
jamie 's son is not a dutton but randall
Hey 1di0t: You always capitalize people's names because they are proper nouns!
Jacob is not second generation. Jorn, Spencer, and Emma are the second generation.
The Dutton’s didn’t lose the ranch - they gave back the land
My favorite character in my favorite show, 1883 was and will always be Elsa! I have always looked up to the brave men and women who set off and discovered the undiscovered and uncharted West.
Elsa, 1st Generation
Cara,2nd Generation
Spencer,3rd Generation
, 4th Generation
John III,5th Generation
Beth,6th Generation
,7th Generation
Wrong!
No "technically " about it. They *are* the same generation in every way, shape , and form!
@@dianascott2798ìlNot "Kayceee." It's spelled *Kayce *, with *one* "e." Why can't anyone learn that?
*Beth* is capitalized just like everyone else's name! And her brother's name is spelled *Kayce*, not "Kaycee."
Anyone else notice that 'Sarah Atwood' is also in 1883? 😊
Yes, she was Claire.
Where did the term "unalive " come from. Killed themselves. Died, dead.
Duh
These UA-cam clowns are Soo scared to get their videos taken down or a strike that they say and do dumb bullshit like that
If enough of these ass clowns would just man tf up and start goin against all these rules this type of bullshit would stop
youtube censors those words, I made a commen using the name of the guy whe led germany into ww2 and they took it down for the use of his name.
UA-cam censorship *yawn*@@elevenbucks5682
@ That’s insane. Maybe she can say that Claire “offed herself”😅
Gen 1: War Between the States Confederate veteran James & Margaret Dutton, James' BROTHER (NOT his son) Jacob (NO JOHN DUTTONS in this generation)
Gen 2: Elyse, John I, Spencer (WWI vet)
Gen 3: John II (possible WWII vet.?)
Gen 4: John III (possible age for Vietnam War service)
Gen 5: Lee, Jaime, Beth, Kayce (Afghanistan / Iraq war vet) (NO JOHN DUTTONS in this generation)
Gen 6: Tate (possible WWIII military TBD) and John IV
SIX GENERATIONS, not 7.
Kacey saved the ranch the only way he could.
Is Claire in 1883 Sarah in Yellowstone?
YES.
There is no reveal that Alex is pregnant that is only speculation. The family tree shows no children from her. There is no complication in season one that says Jack and Elizabeth can't have children. She was just distraught over the miscarriage. The family tree shows they have a baby boy named John.
Definitely Elsa ❤❤❤
I love the girl from the 1800 Dutton
New drinking game; take a shot for every “Let me know in the comments”. Surest way to get absolutely bollocksed in eight minutes or less.
I agree 💯
Is Claire Dutton played by the same actress that's Jaime's gf in season 5 of yellowstone?
Yes. Claire and Sarah Atwood are played by the same actress: Dawn Oliveri
I love it!! Elsa is my favorite!
Same here❤️
Third Generation - Favorite is Spencer!
Teonna Rainwater is my favorite Dutton.
So if a person hasn’t watched a single episode of any of the series what order should it be watched in?
The order in which it was released
1883, 1933, then Yellowstone.
1883, 1923, Yellowstone. There ain’t no 1933, but there is a 1944 coming soon.
@@scotmandel6699 I've heard arguments both ways. We won't know for sure until 1923 season 2.
Later, she put John 2 and John 3, father and son, in the same generation!
Remember, Jamie’s son’s name is James and I believe it was important for them to have brought that in.
What about Carter? Why did you leave him out?
I agree with you!
My favorite is kaycee and monica. I love them and that they will start a new legacy with tate. I hope it's written somewhere they have more kids
The character m's name is s I Ellen "*Kayce*", NOT Kaycee!! I am astounded at the number of people who never bothered to learn this!
I learned it in Season 1 Episode 1. That was more than 6 years for the rest of you to do so.
Was enjoying this until the narrator said "unalive"! WTF!
Although everyone is entitled to their opinion on the writing of the death of John Dutton, in my opinion you are dumb for calling it “terrible writing”. Overall Taylor Sheridan has written great shows.
a bit of advice, when you're talking about and explaining a family tree, YOU SHOULD SHOW A FAMILY TREE!!!
You shoukd probably add in a spoiler alert since you just said they sold the ranch😢
They did sell the ranch. What did you think that check that Rainwater handed to Kayce was for?
@bigrob292 Yeah, I'm saying she ruined the ending before I had a chance to see it for myself. I was curious about the family tree and she's on here talking about plot points and the shows ending lmao
Kevin quit!!! His fault!!!!!
He felt right doing so
@YesHE_knowit Did he?? Well, good for the selfish superstar, who bailed on his fans, to make the biggest blockbuster loser in streaming. Streaming because, it sucks! And couldn't make it in theaters. So who the real loser. You can't blame Sheriden for the forced re-write.
He didn't get paid 12 million from T Sheridan then in finale Sheridan sure strutted it was disgusting
@eagleeyes1046 yes, Taylor Sheridan is a glory hog!! Does not diminish Kevin's role in it.
Nobody has mentioned the link between Elsa and Sam and kayce and Monica…
Thanks for the spoiler right off the bat, I'm still on season 1 🙄
You heap praise on the entire series, rightly so, but then complain about the writing with the murder of John Dutton. You do realize that was Taylor Sheridan's decision.
Want to know if Jaime's mother is related to John Dutton.
How are Jacob and Cara considered the second generation when Jacob and James were brothers? They are the same generation.
you wouldn't count Jamies infant son and its fine to forget him as there is no Dutton blood there.. Jamies son was fully separated from him and Jamie is adopted and is a traitor. No need for him to be included
I only watched yellow stone for about 2 minutes when it started off dropping the f bomb 30 times
Beth Dutton all the way
I think Taylor should bring back Elsa like he brought back Tim Mcgraw's sister.
I find it a little surprising that in women poor Montana the Dutton men did not get involved with native American women until Casey. How did they go to Ireland and England for wives? Bastard children or outright marriages would have made the series more American west.
There were other ranchers daughters and town folks daughters and visiting relatives of the people who lived there.
@ oh, the old feudal system of marrying for money and position….
@ but Monica……
How stupid are you? Do you think that people from other countries couldn't come here on their own? That women were so helpless that they needed a man to "fetch them and bring them over?" Good grief! Did you not notice how strong and capable Kara is?
And what d I es "Woman poor Montana" mean?
The Indian tribes were forced to live on the reservation and the two groups did not socialize due to the prejudice held, largely from white people, towards each other.
Try picking up a book some time. You might learn something.
Definitely Beth and Rip
Jamie is such a tragic story. He really thought he was doing the right thing with the abortion and did not comprehend the consequences of the sterilization.
Justice for Jamie and jail for Beth the insane psycho. She killed Jamie who already asked her forgiveness for what happened when they were YOUNG but still it wasn't enough for her?? And John who never loved Jamie despite all he was doing to please him. Why adopt him then?? John and Beth turned Jamie into how he is.
Clearly you haven't been watching the same show. Jamie killed the female reporter to whom he'd spilled alk the Dutton secrets . He killed his Biological father, too, and told Sarah Atwood that he wanted his father "gone."
Jamiexwas a weak character who needed someone to prop him up.
John killed an innocent doctor and burned inside his office just to cover his infractions but you only care about Jamie killing one person to protect the ranch?? Also Beth is the one who forced Jamie to kill his biological father if you payed attention to the end of season 4. So by your logic it's ok if Beth threatens to take Jamie's son away and wanting to kill him(Jamie) multiple times but it's bad if Jamie want to do the same thing to Beth?? What a logic😂
Claire is referred to as Claire Dutton, but she was married so wouldn't that make her James' sister-in-law? They mentioned her husband, Henry, and I assumed that was James' brother.
Elsa and Beth are my favorites
Sorry baby Jamie Should have been mentioned. He is 7th gen. Just because they don’t have the same blood does not mean he dosnt count
Where was Jacob in 1883?
Still back in Tennessee or wherever he lived, I imagine. This was James' dream, not Jacob's.
You mention in the 1923 season 2 trailer which I can't find unfortunately so I have to comment here. I have never heard that Spencer & Alex die and there baby is given to James and his wife, please tell me where you heard that?? I don't believe that, that can't be true??
How did the Dutton ltheir land
I love the show but some of you seem to have forgotten it's fiction.
I’m guessing Jack is John Dutton’s grandfather
