I really do like that Pennsylvania caboose you have brother ❤❤❤❤. I think a medium to light weathering would look nice on that caboose that needs some repairing.
That is an impressive haul. I like the more traditional, classic road name and you got a few of them. I'm new to your channel and I'll be checking out your earlier videos, as time goes by. An excellent video, for sure.
Howdy! So just out of curiosity where do you find the auctions? Very nice haul for sure. You get too many more cars at once you'll need a bigger table lol. Thanks for sharing 🤠
@@Cowboy_Steve lol - the layout is pretty big, but it’s still becoming more storage shelves at this point. The auction houses and estate sales are everywhere and most of the time they sell a lot more than just trains. Just have to constantly scour the internet. Once you get on mailing lists, it becomes tough to keep things in check. HiBid is a great aggregator of different auction houses for a start.
Happiness is a purple box I like that you don't chase the newest stuff. I like auctions myself You and I think similar BN green is a personal favorite I have been getting a nice amount of Atlas cars from cabin fever auctions Last week I got 8 trainman cars for 160.more bang per buck Your haul is why you don't buy at train shows With careful bidding you can really build the collection economically. Some of the prices at train shows are ridiculous. I am still sad choo-choo auctions stopped doing business
@@williamkolina3988 I enjoy the hunt. I try not to buy items I don’t plan on keeping. But this was a large haul in total. I weathered and listed four of these today. Have three more to finish and list. So, keeping eight of them in the end. Pretty happy with the lot, overall.
Some info on the unboxed cars: -British Columbia boxcar: part of a 6-car set of BCOL boxcars 20-90718, from 2013 V1. The set cars share the set number followed by a suffix B-to G (according to a set photo, no idea why it didn't start with 'A') -PRR N5c caboose: part of 6-car freight set 20-90018, from 2000 V1. This is car 'F' in the set box Five flatcars with pup trailers were announced earlier this year, 20-95712 thru 95716 I'm guessing you got these from Cabin Fever Auctions, based on the way the cars are wrapped up (kraft paper, bubble wrap and a _blizzard_ of foam peanuts😁). Thanks to them, adding anything to my collection is now a game of _Tetris_ , between (primarily) MTH warehouse auctions and assorted regular train auctions there. Like this one, my biggest haul was about the same size -- as many as fifteen cars, a fair number of them unboxed (especially those unpainted MTH engineering samples)
@@RailRide I’ll have to keep my eyes open for that BC Rail set. The 6-car set as a whole is always catalogued to dealers as the “A” and then the individual cars are B-G. This was CF haul. First time I’ve had luck in a long time. Scored quite a bit from MTH WH sales. Bought tons of parts that way as well. Thanks for dropping by!
@ I wasn’t really impressed with the Dayton show. They didn’t have much of a selection I thought. It was all in one building as far as vendors. The other building had some layouts. I ended up driving from there to Columbus to go to Robbie’s Hobbies. I ended up buying that Hostess Wonder Bread airslide hopper you showed when you stopped there. Plus I got a discount today. They must be having a sale.
Thanks Jim! The fees and shipping always vary. This auction was a 16% buyer's fee and the shipping was a little high at $58 overall for the lot. I've seen fees as low as 5% and as high as 25%. You always need to know what the fees are plus the shipping expenses (or sales tax if you physically pick them up) so you can bid accordingly.
Some tips I found over my participation in _Cabin Fever's_ auctions: --If a lot consists entirely of cars with original boxes, it will incur the lower end of the scale for packing fees. --A lot with the same number of cars but unboxed, will incur higher pack/ship fees since all the cars have to be individually wrapped up before packing, incurring extra fees for packing materials. ---A lot of mostly short cars will cost less than a lot of, say premier auto carriers since the shippers also charge by box dimensions. Also, one has to account for bid competition for an item/s with appeal. I once got a Centerline track cleaner car for less than half of MSRP. True, it was used, unboxed and was missing its cleaning rollers. But it was also mislabeled as a Trackman 2000 cleaning car, and I could still buy rollers from Centerline. I paid less than $70 for the car with shipping, while a new O-gauge Centerline car is $200 (sometimes somewhat cheaper on ebay). Other times, a lot that you're top bidder on with no other bids can quickly escalate out of your budget once the auction starts closing. Cabin Fever's auctions are timed so the lots close in groups of 5 or so starting from top to bottom, taking around two hours for the entire auction to finish closing on a typical 600-ish item event. If your desired item is far down in the auction you _might_ see spontaneous bids from people who lost out on earlier lots and start bidding on items they would have otherwise ignored, sort of a _"I didn't get the thing I wanted, so I'll try to at least get _*_something_*_ today"_ effect.
@@RailRide I agree 100% It's always a dice roll. Sometimes you get a monster good deal and other times people pay way above new retail for items that are 20 years old. No rhyme or reason to it, usually.
@TheLEMRR Indeed it is. I ran across a story I related about one of my bigger hauls. If you Google the phrase "tankerpalooza" and look at its mention under the O Gauge Railroading Forum, "Buy anything cool lately?" you'll see the recollection I wrote (same username) about one small lot I missed and two larger ones I won in the same auction.
