90039 Backbone and 67005 Queen's Messenger come to Carlisle.

The Class 56s, 66s,
17 July 23
Network Rail hosted their own Train Planners and those of the Train Operating Companies, both Passenger and Freight, on an excursion from Euston, out via the S&C and return over Shap. DB Cargo provided 90039 I am the Backbone of the Economy to head the train where possible, with 67005 Queen's Messenger hauling the train from Preston via Settle.
We also see an assortment of passenger and freight trains, including an immaculate 66244, which stood awhile alongside 90039 awaiting a path south.
Any observations are my own and not intended to show any authority and may show my misunderstanding.

Thanks for the video Les. I was the driver on the class 90 and did notice you on the platform so was expecting something to pop up on UA-cam at some point. A good send off for the DB Cargo class 90s. I hope that's not the last we'll see of them! 🤞

Many thanks for your excellent capture of the Pride of Planning train. A real treat for me to see this. A definite Proud Dad moment, as my daughter was nominated by her manager to be on the train and loved every minute of it. It was her first trip over the settle and Carlisle. She did find you on the platform and came over to say hello. Keep up the good work Les.

It happens now and then when the TPE train has arrived from Edinburgh ahead of a faster Avanti from Glasgow, while another train is due to be put in Platform 4.

The weed killing train is working on the lines radiating from Carlisle at the moment. Remember they are restricted as to what can be sprayed

@@LeslieGilpinRailwaysYes sadly,I saw a photo on Facebook which appeared to be shared by a DB Cargo staff member confirming they will be looking to dispose of the class 90s eventually and for now are all being put in storage which is sad but atleast freightliner still have there’s! I only saw 4 DB Cargo class 90s

The 90s have had a good run, not my favourite because they succeeded the 87s on the Intercity diagrams.

DB Cargo UK stores all electric locos due to the cost of electricity, so they claim. So don't give us any more flannel about "climate hero" and all that, DB 😑
