  • A short video showing how you can unblock a plug hole with every day products. Here is a simple tip where I use Bicarbonate of Soda and Vinegar to clear a blocked or slow running plughole. The whole process takes less than a minute and costs you less than 50p.
    No chemicals are used. It costs less than products purchased from a store and all in all that's got to be better for us all.
    Additional Green Tips can be found at my web site. www.greenecolife.co.uk

    Thank you for your video. Just did this. It worked!! I had a clogged overflow drain in the bathroom sink so I poured the baking soda and then the vinegar into the overflow drain hole. When it started to foam out I sealed the top of the hole with my finger so it couldn't come up and out. It must have forced it out the other end and cleared the clog. I can now pour water down the hole and it drains right out. I love this because it is quick, easy, inexpensive and most importantly, no chemicals are involved that will harm me or the earth!

    I really do applaud the video, I know my grandmother swore by vinegar and baking soda. However, chemical free is a no no term, it doesn't exist. Even in remote reaches of space there are chemicals. Humans themselves are entirely comprised of chemicals, but I know exactly what you mean when you say chemical free! Cheers!

      And yet neither product is required to have a warning label! It's almost like there's a sensible definition of what constitutes a "corrosive", which doesn't include every single substance with a pH above or below 7. 😉

    I had a clog that took a lot of work. I tried this, but I think it just pushed the clog along. Then I tried draino, no luck. Then I tried an 8 foot snake- nothing. Then I tried a fifteen foot snake, nothing and the snake never showed evidence of encountering the clog. It must have been farther down. Then I tried the drain cleaner for "slow drains" - success at last.

  • @morrislechat637
    @morrislechat637 11 років тому +1

    What happens with the baking soda and vinegar is that they create a gas which is pressurized if one plugs the drain and the spill holes after pouring it in. That pressure removed the clog that your draincleaner had already done some work on.

  • @morrislechat637
    @morrislechat637 11 років тому +1

    vinegar is a weak acid. I've tried this on a drain. It did not work. The trick with the bicarb and soda is that it creates co2 gas, and that only helps with the clog if one uses a plunger or stopper to keep the gas in the pipes, so it will push the clog along .

  • @TheEatmorDininghall
    @TheEatmorDininghall 8 років тому +2

    I bet that after you mix the baking soda and vinegar in the sink then plug the drain, it would be more effective because it forces most of the reaction to go down the drain pipes rather than both directions. Since you are blocking the reaction from coming up, it is forced to go the other way pushing harder on the clog.

    for hair build up clogging your drain just get a NEW toilet plunger (de clogging stick) with a tip that hangs out in the bottom (not one of those flat ones) and put it on the hole of the sink that is clogged. Next, pour water (hot or cold) into the sink (fill the sink half way). Next, use the plunger up and down as if unclogging a toilet without lifting the plunger. Maintain that suction the whole time to produce pressure within the clogged pipe. Do that until fixed. Repeat as necessary

      I have to agree, I saw nothing here to prove it had actually worked. Quite the contrary, if you watch the jug water drain away it is just as slow as when he started the test. This seemed more like a propaganda styled advert than a scientific demonstration. Now try bicarbonate of soda in a cup add vinegar and you'll get the same fizz. This is because the vinegar and Bicarbonate are reacting with each other (As in CHEMICAL reaction) and not the grease in a drain.

      More proof environmentalists have no clue what they are talking about. Bicarbonate of soda is baking soda. When mixed with vinegar they will release that deadly carbon dioxide ha ha ha ha. Carbon dioxide gases are unblocking this environmentalists drain, ha ha ha. The soda crystal is just washing soda. If you add hydrogen peroxide to washing soda you get oxyclean. There are 3 chemicals in this video and out of the 2 used 1 is man made. The 2 commonly used chemicals that he refuses to use for drain cleaner which are naturally occurring on earth and in the universe. The first is sulfuric acid which is sulfur and water. The second is sodium hydroxide otherwise known as soda ash, lye and caustic soda. When it breaks down it doesn't release carbon, I think it releases hydrogen or oxygen. Fucking environmentalists are so stupid. Using chemicals instead of chemicals.

    • @MabelAmber
      @MabelAmber 10 років тому +2

      Yuri Desires
      The instructions in the vid are just DEAD WRONG. What you need to do is empty out the basin or sink, then put the plug in the hole. Then pour some soda in the basin or sink, then add hot water and see to it that the soda is fully dissolved BEFORE you pull the plug out of the hole. If you do it the way this guy demonstrates, the soda will form cakes in the drain and the clog is even worse.
      My plumber came round and after he had taken the various parts of the pipes apart he just fished up the caked soda from my first attempt. He then explained the right wat to do it.
      Also he unplugged the pipes with some electric declogging device.
      (By the way, the plumber did not cost me a penny, it's on the housing corporation I rent from.)

      That is usually the first action, the plunger. However, in some cases the suction won't work, for instance when grease has narrowed the drain and hairs and ends of grass get stuck forming a thick ball in the narrowed drain. Best method is to prevent hairs and stones etc from entering the drain: so buy a filter with supersmall perforations and insert it in the plughole.

    there is no such thing as chemical free.
    Vinegar contains acetic acid (H3CCO2H) also known as ethanoic acid which is the second and final oxidation product of ethanol (=commonly known as alcohol).
    Bicarbonate soda (baking soda) is NaHCO3, the more accurate name is sodium hydrogen carbonate.
    H3CCO2H + NaHCO3 -> Na(acetate) + H2O (water) + CO2 (carbon dioxide) which is the gas that is formed.
    CO2 in its solid form is also known as dry ice.
    Don’t miseducate people!
