    Excellent review and your professionalism was much appreciated. As an owner of this system, I would also like to mention that it is excellent when working with various lenses from other manufacturers. Attach a Zeiss Otus lens, crop to a 1x1 ratio and you will truly feel like the Buddha you captured.

    I have spent well over 12 years searching UA-cam for information on photo gear. I am blown away by the amount of garbage UA-cam throws at me when a video like yours should be at the top of my searches. Have no idea what algorithm they are using to promote content, but they need to fix it. You did a wonderful job, thank you.

    I just purchased and chose the GFX 100 (not the 100S). The EVF Tilt Shift Adapter (which isn't available on the 100S) was the final deciding factor.

    I invested in the Hasselblad H series and am still impressed with the image quality it delivers. For now I have five lenses (28mm, 50mm, 80mm, 120mm Macro and 210mm), a H2 body with the film back and a H3DII-31 digital body. Together with my Rolleicord Model I Art Deco these are my medium format options I will be able to keep for decades.

    I greatly admire this camera, and I thought it was the greatest photography product accomplishment of 2019. It is not really for me for my everyday or even client work use, but its mystique and lustre never diminish for me. It is completely icing on the cake that Fuji is *still* adding features to this camera. Canon could definitely learn something there for their DSLR users. As for me, my current satisfaction in high resolution imagery comes from my Canon 5DS, which is just enough megapixels for me for the present.

    • @unstanic
      @unstanic 3 роки тому

      The problem with canons is dynamic range. I almost got the 5Ds too, but because I’m interested in high contrast photos and direct sun, I totally dismissed that purchase.
      Yes you could bracket, use filters, etc... But when you saw the example in this video and how she captured that beautiful sunset in a single shot and the amazing result she got, that’s just magic...
      Also these cameras are getting pretty old now as tech takes leaps lately... I have the 5D Classic and shutter shake is insane. I can’t go below 1/80 of a second for crisp images.

    I have taken lots of shots with GFX 100 with 32-64 mm and the image output is ultimate. The details are incredible and most importantly the post processing is not troublesome as the quality is too good. However if layers are added then we are talking about good computers to process. If Focus stack is used then one needs to be careful in taking just the right amount of shots. Exposure blending or texture blending might also require good computing power. Before buying the camera please ensure the kind of images that you would want to use it fr.. Just my thoughts...

    This camera is an absolute beast, and a work of art.
    In terms of alternatives to purchasing a MF or FF body, if image quality and detail are your thing, to consider the Sigma DP Quattro series of cameras. The image quality is often compared to MF and FF sensor cameras, and although they won't be as detailed as a GFX100 or maybe even a GFX50, they are still a decent option especially when it comes to the price. There are very much limited when it comes to features, but from what I have experienced using one, they are definitely worth having a look at.

    Nice video. I own the GFX100 (and the GFX 50R before that). The 100 is all about image quality with is amazing details resolving capabilities and color reproduction.
    I got my GFX100 because it has some features you won't find in other medium-format cameras:
    1. IBIS!!!!!!!!!!!
    2. AF speed with eye-detect
    So, for my needs, it is a great investment.
    You can't compare it to other fast-paced photo-producing cameras, rather a fine-art/portraits/landscape/products with the ability to hand-hold outdoors.
    Plus, don't forget to upgrade your computer for the 100MB single RAW file ;)

    if the size is too big, how about the GFX 100S? It's lighter and cheaper as well. Maybe the loss of a second battery and hi-fi EVF might be a downside. but the image sensor and stabilization etc else are all same.

    Something to bear in mind, that I learnt from Tony Northrup: if two different format cameras take identical photos (same distance to subject, DoF, and shutter speeds), and if the sensor tech is about the same, and if the images are viewed at the same size, and finally, the larger resolution image is downres'd to that of the smaller - the image quality, in terms of noise, will be about the same. Yes - the MF camera will be able to take photos that, say, a FF cannot, but at the same time, in many situations, the two formats will in fact produce very similar results. This result arises due to the fact that to match DoF between two different formats, the total light *energy* incident on each sensor will be identical. The larger sensor will experience less light *intensity*, and will need to have a higher ISO than the smaller format - it's that higher ISO that then increases it's noise, bringing it back down to that of the smaller sensor. (again - assuming sensor tech is the same, which may NOT be the case).

    I am owning GFX 100 since it was available , you should mention the lack of lenses, there are no ultra wide lenses (23mm f4 isn’t that wide) so I found that Sigma 14-24 adopted works well but is hassle to use with adapter.. and huge filters it becomes all way too big and heavy, also on the tele end there is 100-200 which is not great lens (new Canon 70-200 f4 II is sharper lens when adopted but it doesn’t cover the all sensor).
    This are things to consider..
    I am thinking to add Canon r5 when I want to carry less weight with me.

    Thanks for the thoughtful review. As a landscape photographer, I'm seriously considering getting the QFX 100. I've heard, though, that there is some PDAF banding in the shadows that doesn't allow you from opening them up as far, hence reducing the effective dynamic range. What did you find?

    Great review- thanks. I'd love to hear you compare the GFX 100 or GFX 50 with the Hasselblad X1d II 50c and the Hasselblad 907x. At the end they are the competition in the medium format entry level area. The sensors in the Hasselblads are "only" 50 MP but my assumption is, that they are much easier to use in sense of user interface, weight and size. Besides this: I'd look at a 907x in 20 years and still find it a piece of art while I definitely would not say so to the other cameras, including the X1d II. From your review on the 907x the implied impression is, that you really like it - correct?

    What I’d like to see is that 102MP sensor in the Fuji (manufactured by Sony I believe) with similarly powerful processing pipeline used in the far more compact body of the Hassy 907X you’ve also got in for review. Now that would be a combo! And not out of the realm of (near future) possibility either, I reckon.

    Great review. Funny, I debated between this camera and the Leica SL-2. As a M-shooter, the SL-2 is great in its own right, has some MF characteristics, but as I was already invest in the L-lenses , couldn’t make the jump. As well, even as beefy as the SL-2 is, the GFX100 was just another level of bulk. Now, if the GFX50R update is a stabilized 100MP sensor in smaller form factor . . . Hmmm.

    Nice review that gives the will to go for a 100S... but there is something I can’t figure out. If we consider pixels density, this 102Mp has more pixels per square mm than the Lumix S1R. But the S1R is very bad at high ISO like 10.000´or more. How do you explain that?

    In the digital world the best “bang for your buck” is actually in the lesser cameras. As you move up the specs charts the cost begins to blow out dramatically. If you are in high end professional ( getting big bucks for your images) then this camera would be fantastic. But for most people the 24 MP cameras seem to be the best all round deal at the moment. For instance, you seem to be able to get some pretty good specials on Nikon cameras at the moment if you shop around a bit or wait for specials to turn up at electronic stores. APS-C and FF lenses are cheaper too.

    • @LeighAndRaymond

    • @Gynra
      @Gynra 3 роки тому

      @@LeighAndRaymond I couldn't agree more. Desire has always been a big factor for me in my purchasing decisions (what economists call marginal utility), which is why I bought a Leica M10-P. On paper, the camera makes no sense at all. It is expensive, and doesn't really take any better photos than my Z6 (I can use my Leica lenses on the Z6 and Z7). For me, it was about the simplicity and experience of using a rangefinder and, lets be honest, the satisfaction of owning a Leica. For the same reason, people buy expensive watches. Photography is about the whole experience, not just the final image.
      Thank you for this review of what looks like an amazing camera. I trust your judgement, and the fact that you can point out the downsides of a camera without shouting "fail" and other clickbait tactics so used by other reviewers. Sadly, this camera is not for me, it is too heavy as I am not young any more. I still enjoyed hearing about it, though.

    Bravo.! A pithy review of this game-changer which is not exclusively focused upon its resolution. As you point out at about 17 minutes, colour depth, quality and high DR are just as important 'state of the art' gains from this sensor. If you can output and process the 16 bit files the colour rendition is streaks ahead of, say, SL2. As per your discussion of the statue, having moved from a 50S which I used for 3 years there is no doubt that on this sensor the same lenses see details that not only the eye does not see but which the 50 sensor didn't pick up either. For better or worse, its akin to taking photos with a microscope. The buttons and dials on the camera just suck. So bad. Such a shame. Too small, too flimsy and too fiddly. As you show, there are acres of space. Why not give us the chunky solid dials and joystick of a Leica S or SL camera ? Instead, we get the joystick from the XT component tray in the production line. I adore this camera. It seems to make its own light and there is always excitement. I do not regret my car loan each month to buy it. I applaud Fuji for combining the sweetest shutter with Innovative IBIS to liberate the camera from tripod use but the buttons and dials should really have shifted up in calibre to suit.

    With all the landscape photos, and being by the national parks, why wouldn’t you keep the camera for this? No one wants 100mp portrait….just saying
