I get such a kick out of "a Noct" being used with a straight face as a unit of measurement.
The part starting at 3:58 was gripping! I did pay way too much attention to the approaching car, wondering if Chris will finish his lines before it reaches them. :D
Me too, the suspense😅
Yes, but I took great comfort that he was on the outside of the guard rail.
So did I ^_^ Wondered if we were in for a blasted horn or a mad max incident !! made me smile !!
Hahaha, me too
"...less than half a Noct." 😆 This never gets old.
What is a Noct?

15:00 Chris: "sorry for a bad audio." Jordan still makes it sounds better than 97% of youtube videos. Well done!
Nostalgic neg has beautiful colours. Reminds me of colour grading in the movie JoJo Rabbit.
I AM LOVING MY GFX100S! Thanks for this awesome review
Just met someone while taking pictures and he told me he shoots with the Pentax K-01 and I had to laugh because it reminded me of you guys 😂
You should have bought a lottery ticket, it's only once a blue moon one gets to meet a real life Pentax shooter.
I really wanted one when they came out they were so solid. Also the culture of the company was good, this has gone backwards now.
@@endnami Used to be one before going with Fuji.
Was the right choice forward but Pentax did make proper products back then.
I bought the X-E2 just before the X-T1 came out. Honestly was love and hate compared to the Pentax K30.
But in hindsight it was the right move. I would've invested in Pentax glass which would have put me in a rough spot today.
I met a Pentax shooter this week too 😀
I’m just here for the noct weight references
Chris is 20 nocts in mass, 1.6 Danny Devitos tall.
Never heard of a noct before Chris Nichols said it. Off to Google noct.
No need to dedicate a button for Focus Modes, just set it to ALL, punch in the joystick and rotate the rear command dial. It’ll cycle through all of them.
It's personal preference, it doesn't matter.
lol medium format for sport? sounds like you cant shoot sport back in the film era as well this camera is for landscape and portrait you want shoot sport get z9 or 1dsmk3
Really missing that Pentax video quality during this review
Jordan, I really liked some of the video shot composition in this one. Sometimes I just stare at them and think what a great choice the angle was.
Agree, 11:26 had me blown away for a good minute. Beautiful framing.
For me, one part of the enjoyment is their photography - both video and still.
I thought the bit at 4:56, with the ice crystals flying past, was quite nice!
Who on Earth would use this for sports and action, or wish to shoot more than seven frames in quick succession? I do chuckle when you criticise kit for not being able to do things for which it was never intended, nor actually used for by the vast majority of people.
Overall, everything Jordan dislikes about this camera is because he's weird. 👌
Great review. This is the one camera I want. Not need, just want! 😁
How much better could they make the camera if they just forget the video and put all the research in the stills side!!! Would the shutter speed be better? Would the focusing be better? I wish they would make a camera like that, I have no use for video. What do you think?
Let’s boycott Greenland until they rename it Snowland or Big Iceland
Actually one could argue that this body needs a vertical grip even more than a 3:2 aspect 35mm equiv. camera as verticals with 4:3 aspect are far more usable. Also, with the IBIS, the camera should be comfortable shooting vertical *handheld* for portrait photographers. Those people may need the GFX 100 option.
Why do none of these reviews test just how big a print you can make before it pixelates? I tested my 645Z with an AO size print (33x47 inches) shot on a tripod and its still razor sharp with no "grain".I am curious if I would ever need a 100mp unit?
Jordan, you said "you got a longer time before overheating" - can you share how long your recording worked until it overheated? In what modes did it overheat? Thank you :-)
This channel has great content. It’s a shame they’ve started spamming all their subscribers with those blatantly sponsored 2-minute “overview” videos. Those have zero actual content, and they know they’re terrible because they all have comments disabled and they all have a huge number of thumbs down. I’ll bet they’re losing subscribers. I’m certainly unsubscribing if they don’t knock it off soon.
Started!? Dpreview has always done some sponsored content and overviews. Our show is part of the DPReviewTV family and there is some other excellent content from other creators such as Don Komarechka. I realize having all the other content on the channel as well, isn't everyone's cup of tea, but hopefully you'll stick around for our stuff.
@@niccollsvideo That’s weird! I never saw any of those short ones in my feed until the past month. Maybe I wasn’t actually subscribed until recently. I would always get the good reviews from you & Jordan showing up in my feed even when I wasn’t subscribed - I guess because I always clicked on them, and because they have tons of views and tons of thumbs up. But when I subscribed I started getting all the questionable short overviews cluttering up my feed.
Oh well! It’s not like I’m gonna start an angry online petition! 😂 I’m just surprised. I think a lot of creators make an extra channel for people who want more content so they can avoid cluttering up the feed of average subscribers - even if it’s decent content - because they don’t want people to unsubscribe (or maybe even click “do not recommend channel”).
hello... very beautiful video... one question... how LightRoom responds with the 102 mega pixel photos in raw format due to the weight of its files...? you can work without problems..?
if we find a dptvreview sticker out in the wild, can we win something?
Regarding the optional grip: The 50S already had one so WHY on earth didn't Fuji just use it? It's such a blunder and I don't get it at all. Why build a modular system and then make NOTHING compatible? Seriously, the only thing that's compatible are the lenses - you can't even use the batteries from the previous GFX cameras because they changed it.
Why, Fuji, WHY?!
The 50S is fantastic because you can use if without the EVF and without the battery grip to have a very lightweight landscape camera - or you can slap everything on for a comfortable studio session. The 100S could be the perfect camera if it was a bit more modular.
So any chance of a lens test for AF speed and 100MP quality for as many as you can borrow? Kinda a big factor in a buy decision IMHO...
Also if they introduce a law allowing daughters to claim retrospective modelling fees in years to come you might be in trouble, unless you had it covered Easter-Egg wise...
Plus in the gallery I see one image "JPEG (297.2MB)", I mean really??!!?? I thought 14-bit Raws were c. 100MB... ah, I think it's a miss-named 16-bit Raw file...
P.S. how is the last image in your dpreview gallery a 311,648,258 byte JPEG? Surely the (not provided) Raw file was smaller than that?
The way I see it kids will ALWAYS owe their parents for the rest of their lives so... As for that last picture it's the 400MP multishot file which is ridiculous in file size.
Chris, from my point of view wrong about the 14-Bit vs. 16-Bit RAWs. Maybe you don't see a difference directly. But it gave you a good reserve while editing. I have shot the same scene, a nice sunrise with delicate colours in 14 and 16 Bit. The gain in post are great. I have done the same processing and it was a noticeable difference. The rendering of light is really beautiful (I hope I do not try to justify the money ;-) )
BTW: You can check the review done by Andy Mumford.
Gotta love the "Please use a tripod" message.
I was not aware Fuji had 14 and 16 bit raw, that was a complaint I heard about the earlier models. Moot point since I cant justify spending $8,300 on a camera kit.
Everyone has their own preference, but not even offering an optional grip is a real disappointment to day the least. I like the way the LCD tilts but the touch operation on Fuji is just so outdated, more so on their AF /tracking system, huge huge room for improvement. I understand this is by no mean a " sports camera", but for anything that moves, like a model just walking slowly, the tracking is really still a hit and miss game.
As for 14 bit vs 16 bit, I will ONLY shoot 16 bit on any MF camera, after all, it;'s the color accuracy and separation one of the main reason I am getting into MF, it give so much more room for Post Processing, one of the main differentiator between MF and FF.
I just can't agree on the " the tracking works pretty well " comments, in my own first hand experience with my friend's brand new GFX100S, the tracking s so unreliable, even there is only one person in the frame, the focus jumps to the background and lock onto something for no reason , and it happens not just once in a blue moon or only in dark, it feels like even worse than my 7 year old A7R III 's Eye tracking, not even as reliable as my 12 year old 1DX in AI Servo mode,, it's pretty ridiculous. I do agree Single Point AF works a little more reliable though.
Just wanna point out at 2:12, it is definitely not Acros. Acros is B&W....
Back in my day a nostalgic neg was telling a woman she’d look like Shania Twain if they worked outa bit.
DPReview has a huge name & status. It would be great if you guys can get two copies of a camera when reviewing so the whole segment can be videoed by the camera you're reviewing to give the correct impression throughout it the whole segment, and for in the field experience. (Yes, I've made this comment once before, but I'm not sure if it's been seen.)
An external histogram and vertical tilting screen are features I never knew I wanted. My Nikon D500 screen is useless when I'm shooting vertically close to the ground. I hope Nikon offers a vertically tilting lens when I eventually move to mirrorless.
I've looked over Jordan and I've seen, things are not what they seam
Orvis? DPReview is paying off.
I love this jacket. As a fly fisherman though I unfortunately am partaking in a fiercely expensive hobby. Thems the breaks!
Me: Even though it's getting old, my D800 is still more camera than I need, I love it, and I have no plans to upgrade!
Also me: (◔‿◔)
Thats true🤣
Just started shooting a Canon 5d mark ii. I have a bunch of older Nikons. This Fuji is a great camera but the older cameras are nice for me.
@@crsantin I'm just planning to buy a 5d2, magic lantern looks incredible
Same here, D800e my father gave me still rocks it just takes all the photos that I want
Shooting portraits all day long makes a battery grip essential for the second set of shutter and selection controls.
I'm missing the Pentax K-01 look.. :(
Looking forward to Pentax K3mIII review!
Great review! Do you think we will be seeing an XH2 in 2021?
this host is distractingly handsome, I can’t focus on what he’s saying.
"They lie to you just to get you up here." Hahahaha!
Great review. Not too short not too long. Focused. Thanks !!
How video stabilization works? Especially interested with gf 45-100.
I’d love to know this too!
5:00 bokeh is insane looks like a green screen
I'd be reaching out to Beatsuite asap because this video got a copyright claim because of the music.
how about the new PENTAX K3 iii
What camera was this filmed with?
The 100S is such a beast. I shoot mine with the 50mm f/3.5 and the 35-70. It's like a big X100. For $3000 used? Heck yea.
Graying but still full hair, that's still what counts!
15:09 that photo just...👌🏻
Such a great fit for Nostalgic Neg
I disagree about the 50 megapixel cameras GFX, they are still much better in detail and dynamic range, the 61 megapixel Sony A7IV looks clearly worse than GFX50R.
You guys are in Canada. I understand that majority of your viewers are in the US and knowing how much a camera costs in USD gives everyone around the globe an idea about its value. However I am wondering why you never mention the current prices of the cameras you review in CAD also?
It really is for the reason you stated. Sometimes I'm known to do some ridiculous conversion rates for fun though so regardless you wouldn't get an accurate CDN amount from me, even if I did mention it.
It’s because they work for a US company.
@@niccollsvideo Fair enough, Thanks Chris, cheers!
Wow 11:30 🔥🔥
Gee, I noticed it doesn't block up at 16 Bit if they are shot a second or two apart. We are NOT you. Try to leave the "I" out.
You are reviewing the camera, NOT what YOU LOVE. This camera KILLS all of the competition. Just make believe the competition
are Leica and the top FF and Mid-format cameras. Even the GFX50R at a couple of thousand less NOW, with the 23mm, (18mm Equiv.), at under $7000 is right up there. What does an 18mm 3.5 Leica M cost? I couldn't find one, but I would guess at about double the 23mm Fuji.
I am just waiting for the GFX100R at a thousand less, with the 23mm, and this time with a battery grip at about $7,700. PLEASE FUJI.
With a price tag of >$6,000, the ONE-YEAR WARRANTY for this camera system is a sick joke! Things always go wrong with electronic devices regardless of how well conceived and constructed they are. Having to pay through the teeth when this type of thing happens after 12 months should be a warning for everyone.
Only thing is, as always, devaluation - the GFX100s being relatively still new still trades for above $9000 Australian on my end, but get this, and trust me - I am very tempted! - my local
guy has a more or less original GFX100 with less than a thousand shots on the shutter, complete with box, charger and two batteries - price guv'nor then? - $7200 Australian dollars. Silliness. Rather surprised he still has it listed on his website to be honest....
Let Fujifilm keep this gfx line , and add new fullframe camera and lenses. Then fuji can give fight for sony and canon. Already nikon slowly dying. Nikon is affected by carona and its under ICU now. If fuji dont take fullframe vaccine then sure carona (sony and nikon) will attack and send to ICU.
I kind of laugh at the idea of "sports and action" shooting with a Medium format camera... Pretty incredible camera though. Think that Fuji will come up with an R (Rangefinder) version of the GFX100S as they did with the 50R? Also, Medium format sensors (over a 50 MP full frame sensor still has superior image quality because of larger pixels, and there is a special look to the colors a medium format sensor.
Anyone wanna buy a kidney? Hit me up.
a/c to dpreview this fuji grip feels amazing but the very similar sony grip feels trash and the tiny tiny grip of the fuji xt200 feels great!!! lmao (nooffence)
I gotta say, you’re wrong about vertical grips. Even if I don’t use the camera in the vertical orientation, the v-grip adds much needed surface area to the regular grip. I have an add on vertical grip on my Nikon and I can’t stand to go without it.
Anyone know if GFX100S has automated focus bracketing function for stacking?
Wait…did this review occur in a landscape setting and not one image taken with the 65:24 XPAN aspect ratio? No…I must have missed it.
0:52 That's what she said :-D
Light and colors in this review are great!
Loving the top LCD copied from the PHASE ONE IQ3. Hasselblad need to up their game where their H6D 100 & 400MS look extremely vulnerable
11:27 could be a green screen. What a stunning backdrop! And I’m pretty sure I see a porcupine off in the distance.
Каждый обзор - надо продать камеру.
Starting at 11.30, I was thinking "only people living all year long in beautiful looking places would talk to a camera instead of shooting the incredible landscape standing behind them in that gorgeous light!!!" ;) Very good video though!
Fujifilm GFX100S : Bang on Chris, sadly i won"t be able to buy unless i win a lottery, may a used one after few months.
What about manual focus? And could you use it for street photography if you were daft enough?
Manual is smooth enough. And for street? Why not! I totally would myself.
The 50mm (a little bigger than) "pancake" lens is popular for street. Zone focusing is harder due to shallow DOF.
Street . Yes
how to use gfx 50s without stand. becuse of shutter lag images are blurry
Jordan I’ve seen some Scandinavian boys shooting video with this, and I was blown away
How does it compare with the Hasselblad X1D 2 50C?
we had one in our studio but it locked up for an unknown reason.... not great for a premium camera ! a let down
I take a shot everytime they apologize for something I didn't even notice.
Hey Chris what camera bag are you using? I’m on the market for a new bag
The reason I am interested in this camera is because it doesn't have a vertical grip.
Notorious for rolling shutter
anyone know if there’s an updated version of the GFX 50r coming? i’m hoping for something more similar to my film rangefinders.
Do a matchup between this and Sony alpha 1
What happened to his teeth? Dead yellow and unpleasant to look at!
Your hair so thick I'm 19 and bald 💔
Too much talking and too little camera samples.
Great review, I hope you can get the GF 80mm F1.7 and review it because I think that would be the portrait lens to beat.
GF 80mm F1.7 vs GF 110 F2. I chose GF 110 F2, which is sharper, better image quality. Also some review shows Gf80mm has some serious lagging problem.
@@daianxu103 depends on what focal length you'd like and neglecting another lens because it's not your preferred focal length is very inconsiderate. Some might like the 64-ish field of view and the characteristic of a softer lens. And testing the results is still important for every consumer with different views and needs.
I tried both last week on the GFX100 and very briefly the GFX100S. Though the GF110 is much larger, I really prefer it. IQ is a bit better in the GF110 but I was esp. disappointed with the AF in the GF80. Hunting quite a bit back and forth on both cameras, sometimes even unable to acquire focus and quite loud like an old XF35/1.4. The GF110 felt much better. My experience is consistent with some other reviewers, so I don’t blame it to a damaged lens.
@@jacobh5817 yes, I do agree that in some aspects the GF 110mm f/2 is superior. But, what I am after is who is it for. Who should use it. When to stop down to remove chromatic abberrations, how compact it is, how it feels in the hand, etc. The field of views are different on both lenses, right? Does that mean that I should just go tighter and suck it? I don't believe that suggesting just one lens for everybody is a good advice. I gladly support this channel for their content and robbing them the opportunity to review according to Fuji "the fastest lens for Medium Format" is just sad. Their content is equally as important as other people you support. I like how they present their data and "real world" results. It's not just about "your" preferences, it's for people who want or likes that focal length and if they are willing to put up with the compromises of the GF 80mm f/1.7.
@@davidjohnbalce1111 I fully agree that when you need the 80mm focal length, that’s what you should go for. Just saying that if you have the room to take a few steps back and don’t mind the slightly stronger compression, the 110 is the better lens. Dustin Abbott has done a review of the 80/1.7. He’s very thorough in his reviews.
Excellent review! Thank you!
Oh no, I'm a vertical grip person, how could one life without it ;-)
HONESLY, THIS IS THE MOST PREFECT CAMERA IN HUMAN HISTROY
What lenses are available for this camera today?
Is the background hiss of the video portion from the GFX’s preamps?
Thanks, the only thing i needed was a low light test and nobody did that
Hi. Which GF lens and at what aperture did you use for Jordan's video review section? Thanks!
What I like about the 50mp Fuji GFX 50r is the lack of noise in images up to 6400 ISO. Plenty of noise at that ISO from full frame sensors. For me, the 50r hits the sweet spot of relative compactness and great image quality. Nevertheless the GFX 100S is a masterpiece and I enjoyed your video as always.
That's true i feel same.
That's what I think might be a problem with the 100s. Simple physics. There's not a lot of room on this baby medium format.
But full frame systems have faster lenses that negate that difference. Of course a 50MP 44x33 will be cleaner at ISO 6400, but you’ll have to reach for it much less on a FF because of those faster lenses.
@@mattdebyl8806 not the same image quality though
@@silvere36 actually you’re right, the FF camera will have better image quality.
Does the camera have a crop mode setting for full frame lenses?
Thanks for being outside in the cold for a wonderful review.
So medium format in an X-H1 body?
I'm thinking of getting one as a regular everyday camera but just shooting jpg as in 30 years I'll kick myself that I didn't capture family photos in the fantastic resolution I could. Would you say the camera performs well for general usage like that. I have a Fuji X h1 I love but this is something else. Thanks. Will use with 32 to 64 zoom I think
For you, a Nikon Z9 would be better. With the Nikon Z9 you will be able to freeze every movement of children chasing pets, natural family movements. And it's a camera without a shutter. No shot count. You can shoot as much as you want.
Love your humor!
Should make a playlist for all fujifilm related videos
11:50 Did you take a picture of this landscape?
