Hey dan just found your channel. Great stuff. Could you do a video on how to achieve a certain opacity when touching up? O have some chairs that I havent been able to finish because the original stain shows very little grain. Its not fully opaque like a paint though. Its confusing.
I have a small area of acetone damage to my brand new nightstand that is a beautiful matte color gray/silver. I am covering it up with a coaster right now. The acetone bottle had acetone on the bottom and I sat it on the nightstand without knowing it. When I realized it was there and tried to wipe it off it took the finish off. How can I fix this spot without causing more damage.
That is a very difficult repair. We have touched up a few of them and it takes a few tries to get it right. You can make a cut out in a piece of paper and lay it over the repair area. Don't tape it down because the tape may pull off some of the color when you remove it. Then working with a few spray cans mist in a color that is close. Practice first on a piece of paper to see the colors and spray pattern. With a few tries and a little luck you may be able to blend it in. Car part places sometimes have lacquer spray cans with colors and silvers etc if not you can purchase from a mohawk supplier. Will this work on damage that happened due to chemicals? A scented diffuser was knocked over on a table and I didn’t realize it, so the oil sat overnight and when I wiped it away, it took the finish with it 😢
Yes it will. You should clen the area well with denatured alcohol then do a few light coats of sealer first to make sure you put some barrier in case there are any chemicals left over that will create reactions. After you have sealed it well then do your color touch ups. Take you time and go with light layers. Best of Luck!
Thank you Dan, one of the best explanations of this process that I've seen. Simple and effective. Great stuff!
Glad it was helpful!

Thanks for the suggestion.
I will try and put a video together explaining the touch up process and how to achieve different results.

I’d never thought of the orange.
Orange and black are usually the colors that my techs are missing when they are having trouble matching colors.
Thanks so much for watching!
Could you have used toner for blending the colours?
Yes toners will work but I usually use a combination of touch up and toner to get my final result.
