    I love seeing how someone who normally doesn’t listen to this kind of music reacts to the lyrics and the guitar. This was how I first reacted to hearing this song. I love the pretty reckless so much, Taylor is suuuuper talented and I’ve loved her since she was little Cindy Lou who on the grinch!

    A colleague I worked me lost her shit when I played this at work and told her it's "Little J" from gossip girl, she wasn't even into rock music but became a fan after hearing this. The fact that Taylor wrote and recorded this when she was 16-17 shows just how fantastic she is both vocally and in her songwriting. 25 is a song I think you will have fun breaking down the meaning of and the video is gorgeous if you haven't seen it already. You should also play Rock and roll heaven for Ladi so he get a more positive song from her. It's a perfect "double feature" with 25 thematicly.

      Yeah she's really impressive as both a performer and a writer. I still firmly believe that "Death By Rock and Roll" might be one of the best rock albums released in 2021.
      I love 25. I've absolutely seen it and love it. I'm sure we'll get around to doing that one at some point.
      And yeah, I need to show Ladi Rock and Roll Heaven. You're right. That's a much more positive song on that album.
      And hopefully you've checked them out, but we've done quite a few videos on TPR.

    While the red cloak was indeed an Easter Egg, the reference is not about Red Riding Hood--Cindy Loo wore a similar cloak when she visits the Grinch up on Mount Crumpet.

    If I remember correctly, Taylor was only sixteen (maybe seventeen) when this video was made, so the overexposure and shining lights that cover her had to be added later. Originally, she had stripped down and wanted the video to have her naked (or at least topless) by the end, but due to her age, they had to add effects to cover her up.

      Thanks, Timothy. I totally agree with you. I usually don't watch other reaction channels because I don't want our material to resemble other people's, but the few times I've seen people react to The Pretty Reckless I've been disappointed they don't really look beyond surface level stuff like Taylor's looks. I feel like there's a lot of stuff going on in their music and videos, and just focusing on "TAYLOR IS SO HOT" really does a disservice to the artistry that goes into their material.

    The band had to re-edit this for the US. It was made in the UK. And the laws about nudity are different there....and she was 16. So they added all that flares at the end to cover her body.

    • @sunshynff
      @sunshynff 2 роки тому +2

      Sorry, she was 16, but the rest isn't quite true, it was not filmed in the U.K. and in the U.K. it is illegal to publish, produce or show images of anyone under the age of 18 nude, or with any of their naughty bits showing.
      There are two videos for this song, one is considered the "viral version" It was shot at Chelsea Hotel in NY, and mostly consisted of concert footage and backstage clips, it was used to promote the upcoming album.
      The official video we just watched was directed by Meiert Avis, an Irish commercial and music video director who has done videos for tons of other top artists like Bob Dylan, Springsteen, U2, Avril Lavigne, Flyleaf, and J-Lo, just to name a few, and it was filmed in Brooklyn NY.
      While the video was held up in an ethics court due to Momsen being 16, the light flares covering her...peaks n valleys, so to speak, were there from the beginning. Said Taylor in an interview, I did actually take my clothes all the way off for that last scene, and was quite the wild child, and have always been open minded about nudity and sexuality, with that being said, I wasn't going to go full frontal at 16 for my very first music video, and I luckily surrounded myself with good people, like the director and my band mates that wouldn't have let that line be crossed. We wanted to push the envelope a little, not burn my whole image down on our debut release.

    Hi,
    You have taught us that there are always more than one Taylor in her videos and everything has a purpose😉
    The little girl could be the young Taylor beggin for her mothers love but what she receive is a Christian cross, the elder man we hardly see could be her father? The lyrics are such that it could be any type of a relationship going bad, but "Heaven knows" & "Going to hell" etc might support the religious aspect and bitternes for a wasted childhood?

    • @LikeMindedLunatics
      @LikeMindedLunatics  2 роки тому +2

      Yes! That's a fantastic reading of the lyrics/video. I think you're absolutely correct. One of the things I love about The Pretty Reckless's music is that the lyrics lend themselves to multiple interpretations. And your reading makes a lot of sense to me. Heaven/Hell are metaphors for structures of power in their music.

      Think about what he said about Taylor at the very beginning of the video, because that is the answer.

    • @samc9516
      @samc9516 2 роки тому

      I don't have much interpretation of the video, but the song to me seems like a quarter life crisis/reflection on her lost loved ones and life so far. "25 and still alive, much longer than expected for a man" regarding people she knows who died early. I'm 26 now (25 when the song came out) so maybe I'm projecting my feelings into my interpretation but I feel like I can relate to the idea of still getting older, not sure where life is taking you, reflecting on everything.
      Taylor said in an interview, "I wasn't entirely sure where my life was going to go, or if it would continue to go...Twenty-five is a very powerful age where you're in a very transitory state, I think, for anyone. We had experienced so much loss, and I was down and in this hole of darkness as a person after everything we've been through."

    Hey Mark, I heard or read something saying that the girl thinks
    she is in love with a vampire. there are lines like, every time I look into your eye you make want to die, and I could belong to the night and everything you live will burn up in the light.

      @@LikeMindedLunatics It's hilarious, usually the vampire metaphor is supposed to come out stronger than the underlying metaphor! You guys nailed the "true" meaning of the song without using the hints of vampirism that represents the film industry. The strong line (for me) that shows it is, "I had everything / Opportunites for eternity / AND I could belong to the night" It's the "and" that convinces me.

    I don't think her character in Gossip Girl, Jenny, ever died. The reference in the other song might have been intended to be figurative.
    Jenny died when Momsen decided to leave the show and wanted to focus on her music. So she "died" by being written out of the show.

    • @LikeMindedLunatics
      @LikeMindedLunatics  Рік тому

      I think you're absolutely right. For some reason I thought it was suggested in her show that her character died, but I'm wrong on that point. So your interpretation makes way more sense. If I could re-edit our video I would!

      @@LikeMindedLunatics She had actually asked the show writers to kill her character off. However because of her popularity on the show they wanted a way to bring her back in case the "Music" thing didn't work out. SO in the show her character goes off to college across the country from where the rest of the show takes place. *Funny point. After she was written off a lot of media tried to push the idea that she was "Difficult" to work with and the show writers stood up for her.

    Taylor is a great singer and superb composer > I love her voice and the intelligent lyrics - she is a unique artist! I recommend the song "25" < it's a masterpiece (you can see the stellar video and/or an acoustic version that's also brilliant).
    I also love "Going To Hell", "And So It Went"and "Kill Me" < she got lots of great songs out there (as you know since you know Death by RnR 😉😎 A very special video is the one for "F*cked Up World" (you may also find it with the titel "M*ssed Up World", it's the same song just avoiding the pathetic "Beeps")
