Both are terrifying in their own right. In the 90s, the response to existential angst was a scream - powerful and loud. We saw the world through the lens of the 80s garish excess. These days, the veneer is different. Beautiful music, smooth and seductive, selling a message of today’s existential angst. I love both versions and lean towards the OG.

Susanna's version unquestionably. Better than the original. She adds a sexyness too it no other version has had. Which is the whole point if the song. She's out there in simple black pants & a t-shirt & it's the hottest thing I've ever seen.

While I appreciate the cover bringing the song to a whole new audience, the sped up, r&b version is not for me.

So you have Sebastian Bach singing in 1989 versus Lizzie Hale singing in 2024... Technology has changed and gotten a lot better in that 35 year period. It makes sense even if they were both. Even that Lizzie would sound better 35 years later.

I did this same comparison myself the other day. They were EQUALLY as good, and personally, I preferred Lzzy Hale. Bach is worldclass, but he sounded tame and kind of weak compared to Lzzy. He still sounded great of course, but she sounded just as great. Watching her sing and perforn those songs, was just like watching Skid Row for the first time back in the 80's. I got the same thrill. That makes her a metal goddess, who deserves a seat on the Mount Olympus of Metal. Bach is without a doubt a metal god. He'd be like a Dyonisus, and Hale is like Athena, because Athena is just a bad ass, and she she was known to help Greek heros, like hurrcules and odysyuss for example. Like Athena, lzzy helped Skid Row, and coincedentally, i didnt plan it this way, but BOTH of those Greek gods were born directly from the body of Zeus. Athea emerged from the severed head of Zeus, and Dyonisus was sown by Zeus himself into his own thigh, to keep him safe until he was ready to be reborn; because at that point someone had already killed him, i.e., Dyonisus, who was the son of Zeuse, so that's why Zeuse did that. Sorry for the mythology rant. I guess i should add that makes Skid Row -- Zeus! Anyway, Lzzy Hale was super stellar, and every bit as good as Sabastian Bach was in his prime. I became an immediate fan of hers after seeing her absolutely own and crush those songs. She was brilliant.

I've been a concert photographer for over a decade. I've photographed, Bach, SR with Jonny, and Halestorm multiple times. Bach is a dickhead, still has an ego he doesn't deserve and wheezes his way through the songs I love and it was unlistenable. Jonny was a great singer and one of the chillest men I'd ever met, but his voice wasn't suited for SR. Halestorm always kill it, Lzzy is one of the best singers and frontwomen out there and just the nicest woman. Putting her and SR together sounds amazing and it benefits everyone. SR get the golden years they deserve and Lzzy gets to play with one of her favorite bands for a while. You'll find that the majority of people who have an issue with her fronting the band likely have sexist tendencies or other issues with woman. Anyone with ears can compare the two today and knows in their heart who's better... Which is probably why you compared Lzzy from a show you could see NOW to a Bach performance from when Lzzy was still in school.

Well that was him back in the day. Unfortunately he does not pull that off the same these days. And of course he was was the whole package of what a front man should be back in the day. But those days are gone. Lizzy does a great job. She actually has more control to her voice. No flate notes or slip ups as Sebastian would do at times live back in the day and for sure now. Plus let's get real Lizzy is way better to look at. If they were smart they would bring her on full time. They would even have the possibility of making some new material people would give a crap about. Look she already has alot of people taking about and paying attention to the band when no one has for some time now. Just my opinion.

The "hips don't lie" is definitely a Shakira reference. The "Fu Fu" (or more like "wu-uh wu-uh") part sounds like Backstreet Boys - Everybody female backing chorus and also I think I heard in a K-pop song, not sure which one. The "push it to the limit" line it could be an homage to Scarface's movie, another post disco, dance rock song with guitar elements. Btw I thought the second "Are you ready?" chorus was MomoMetal doing the backing growling but they didn't show that, we'll see in the live version. Love the euro trance elements mixed with metal, they also did it with Time Wave, one of my favorite BM song from latest album The Other One. There's probably more references but I'm so far away from pop culture nowadays that i probably missing a lot more. I saw Skid Row 4 or 5 times back when they first came out and was blown away. With that said, how can you not love Lizzy Hale...I'd love to see Skid Row with Lizzy. Imo she's the best singer they've had since their heyday.

I'm just going to be honest... Skid Row with all of their singers (except for Eric and Baz) sound like a really good tribute band. It have never sounded like Skid Row since Baz was gone from the band until Eric showed up... Then, he was gone too. 🤷🏽‍♂️ Lzzy is farking phenomenal as a vocalist... In her band, her voice is farking perfect, because she made it for that music herself. But singing somebody else's melodies is always conformity to an extent. So she sounds limited to her true authentic expression and she does not quite capture the essence of Bach in his full array like Eric did. Just being honest. 💯
