I know I'm probably one of the few people who much prefer the older triple cranksets. New direct mount cranksets are worse, because more gear ratios are better. Thank you.
I disassembled my old deore triple crankset to service and to tighten it. I ended up buying a narrow wide chainring and with a 1x9 on my winter bike...This is excactly the reason what you are showing and i didnt have the special tool to tighten the bolts. 👍👍
3 chain rings are great. How else are you going to get that granniest of granny gears where the chain ring gear is smaller than the back cog? That's the set up on my 2016 Surly with 30 gears and I wouldn't want it any other way. It makes hauling 4 panniers full of gear and a heavy chrome-moly steel bike up a 15% grade a cinch.
You don't need the spacers on the middle ring. Sometimes the thin spacers were put there to fine tune index shifting on triples depending on the derailleur used.
Are chainrings from triple cranksets sold separately nowadays and is it worthy to change one or two of the chainrings instead of buying new triple system? I have 48-38-28 triple somewhere from 2000's hybrid and want to change 1st and 2nd chainrings which seem worn, but largest one is ok.
That's not Danny's problem, that the dumbar*e user of the bike by not using all of the available range of gears or grinding too much on specific gear ratios.
Honest question. Is all the black gloves stuff UA-cam theatrics? Why are all bike related channels doing this? Auto mechanics don't. Seems wasteful especially just for putting some crank bolts on
I wanted to know, can I convert a 3x like this into a 2x for a retro steel frame gravel build? Where I live 2x are rare and costly. I need a 44/46t-32/30t. Reply if possible. Thanks!
I love the triple crankset I have a m970 48-36-28 that works beautifully It gives character to the bike

Nice restoration! Hello from Ukraine!
Nice polishing on those Crank arms

I just used a flat screwdriver to hold the nut. Exage LX 400 crankset.
dime works too... sometimes

Danny is the 'bike witcher'...

Lovely. I worry that your middle chainring is going to jump, the teeth are worn out. Small looks fine. Best of luck!

Fine work Danny
Is it possible to have all 3 chainrings 42T
SickBiker do you have any ideia of the torque used in the bolts for shimano cranks?
sir do you have extra hydraulic brake?
how thick are the spacers? because mine lost
Same!!

You can
You can make a 1s with a 3s crankset, no problem, just remove the chainwings. The problem is adding the 3rd chainring.
Maybe you can use that crank for road bike and mtb, just put off one of those chainring
Sir can you use deore 5100 rear derailleur to a deore 12 speed cassette?
👍👍
👍👍👍🇵🇰
Why gloves here? There is no dirt on the entire project. Threadlock is not messy.
Because it's surgery. 😁
Black gloves means I know what I'm doing.
O have added 4th chainring on my triple now it's 24-34-42-48 tooth ring quadruple and you say 3 rings is too much 😂
Make a video or provide details on the crankset and derailleur....
