    (Richard here) Having used Shimano Hollowtech cranksets and BB for many years on my road and gravel bikes, I now run nothing but the good old fashion square taper BB on my bikes. The square taper BB turns, in almost all cases, as freely as a Hollowtech BB at a fraction of the cost. The only thing sacrificed is a little weight. However, I can change cranks and chainrings at will using rather inexpensive 104BCD cranks and chainrings. To me, I prefer the simplicity and flexibility of square taper BB & cranksets.

    • @BakerK-p6f
      @BakerK-p6f 2 місяці тому

      you can buy lightweight 150 -180gram square taper bb online.. its about 100-200 grams lighter than stock square taper bb

    • @dsr50dvj
      @dsr50dvj Місяць тому

      I still run square taper (BB-UN26) on my 26" bike. I believe that BB lasts longer than any Hollowtech II, but taking it off is a pain as it requires too many tools.
      I like the simplicity of servicing Hollowtech BBs, but triple cranksets simply don't exist, so I'm forced on stocking UN26s as triple cranksets for square taper are still available.
      People would say to migrate to 29ers so I'd have more options and less costs, but in the end I like the bike that I ride and I'm happy with it.

    5:30 You should compare the weight with the new axle. The comparision you did here demonstrated old bearing + axle vs new bearing only (without axle). The axle is the heaviest part of the old bearing, too, so it's not a surprise that new part without the axle is much lighter.

    • @dirkp.6181
      @dirkp.6181 Рік тому +2

      After all one could add up the belonging components and compare, but yes it would be easier and more expressive to weight all "old" components at once as well as the replacement parts together. - Then only the difference of the teeth count(s) could have an impact on the comparison.

    Still not convinced if I should upgrade to a better squared spindle bracket or get a thru-spindle / hollowtech like this one. One thing I've read is that the fact the left crankarm is screwed in makes them more vulnerable to potential snaps if enough pedalling force is applied, whereas with the square spindle one this can never happen, one less thing to go wrong. The bearings positioned on the outside can also be problematic as they're more exposed to the elements.
    What I find crazy is the fact they created a proprietary shape for the left crankarm nut instead of a common hex, just to sell you yet another tool. 10:30
    Great video tho, very ASMR!

      We use Divinol thick calcium grease for the bushings. The chain can be lubricated with any liquid mineral oil, but it is better to use a specialised one for chains, the main thing is to wipe off the excess grease after lubrication. The cassette does not need to be lubricated. We did not use super lube, in principle it may be suitable for hubs and threads, but we did not check, such a grease is not sold in our city.

    Ja bym się mocno zastanowił nad taką zmianą. Suporty na kwadrat w rowerze dla amatora, wytrzymują wiele, wiele, wiele lat. A jeśli już, bo sztywność nam robi róznicę, to na jednym z moich filmów pokazuję dlaczego NIE bb-52. To słabo zabezpieczony i uszczelniony suport. Żeby się nie okazało, że będzie rozczarowanie, jak ten bb-52 trzeba będzie co sezon-dwa wymieniać, jeśli ktoś roweru regularnie nie serwisuje i nie dba, tylko jeździ bo błocie i deszczu i odstawia do piwnicy do następnej jazdy.

    I want to assemble my bike in a mountain model (all terrain) but I want to do it this way because I don't like the ones they sell and I want to know if you can help me.
    the change is this in the second 40, i saw you install a three-in-one platter. which the bicycles of these times sell with a single and small chainring.
    What carbon fiber bicycle frame can accept a three-speed chainring, that is, three chainrings in one but accepting the connection of a 12-speed sprocket. in short words that the bicycle remains in 3x12 speeds.
    If you do not understand my request, tell me to explain in another way.
    I stay tuned to your comments

      @@torrrock1788 forget about 3x systems, they won't give you anything but the extra weight. The range of your transmission can't be infinite because the chain has fixed length and rear deraileurs have maximum capacity (google "rear deraileur capacity") of about 40 teeth. That means, if you have a 11-42 cassette, the difference at cranks can not exceed 10 teeth, no matter how many stars you have there. And 11-52 cassette can only be used in 1x systems. You could, theoretically, find 11-28 12-speed cassette to build a 3x12 transmission but I doubt that THIS is what you really want.

    • @torrrock1788
      @torrrock1788 Рік тому

      @@ИванСеливанов-ш4щ Thanks for reply.
      What happens that today's (mountain) bikes the transmission is low. when you want to gain speed on your route, the 28 or 30 tooth chainring is not enough to give more speed.
      but the 50 tooth chainrings give you more speed on the road, it is something that you see the SCOTT BICYCLE models.
      The problem that I want to use a mountain bike but with the 12x3 speed transmission.
      is it understood...?

    • @Jacksparrow4986
      @Jacksparrow4986 Рік тому

      @Иван Селиванов your advice is only true if you want to cross-chain. Usually you don't want to but you might happen to crosschain so this might be a problem. If you avoid it it should be ok. I wouldn't buy new frame for this though. If you don't like new bikes buy an old bike and upgrade it to your liking.

      Nie wiem, czy dobrze zrozumieliśmy istotę pytania. Średnica wewnętrzna korby jest taka sama - 24 mm. Możliwe, że oś korby nie jest dokręcona i jest luźna od prawej do lewej, co może się zdarzyć, ponieważ długość wału może się różnić w zależności od modelu korby, nawet w Shimano. W takim przypadku konieczne jest założenie pierścieni pod panewki zacisku lub pierścieni na oś korby.
