I have both. I'm a developer and I've had the MX Keys for almost 3 years. If feels good to type on. To be honest, I don't care about all the extra features too much, including backlight, because I never use my computer in the dark. I'm disappointed with the longevity of MX Keys: at this price point, I expect a product to be durable, while a key broke after only 2/2.5 years and no replacement is possible. It's also very easy to break stuff when you disassemble the keys. Another cons was that it suffered from a bug for which sometimes the "volume up/down" functions got stuck and I had to turn the keybord off. So, why did I buy another MX Keys? First, familiarity: changing keyboard can be frustrating and require a period of adaptation. Second, I like the low-profile and couldn't find any decent alternative. Coming to MX keys S, honestly it feels like a cheaper version of old MX keys, even though it costs more. Typing feels better on the old one. The back plastic is better quality and more "refined" on old. Without backlight, the characters are more visible on the old one. Backlight is much less homogeneous on new version. My MX Keys S also arrived with the "Enter" key defective (higher on one side). I expect this keyboard to last even less than the old one. I'm going to return it because of the defect and I'm not sure if I'm going to rebuy it.
it‘s been awhile since i used it. My recall is that the keys backlight is OS independent. I just tested. Tap once or twice, F6 key to turn it off. To turn it back on, tap F7. The two keys have icons: a half sun‘s rays on top of a horizon line. Smaller icon on F6. Paired or not, backlighting activity works as described. Mine is the MX Keys, all black, PC but works with my M1 Mac mini, my iPad pro M2 and my Android or ChromeOS. I’m surprised that any work because i could be more careful. - WARN 😢 I have read that the software was quirky with the M1 devices. Not an issue if you’re not on an Apple device and doing ubuntu etc -. A second warn 😢: be certain that Ubuntu doesn’t force a firmware on the keyboard. I had that headache when i tried Linux and soured me on learning it. The MX Keys i have still often sells for full price after years! Shop around for a reliable reseller.
It took to logitech almoust 4 YEARS to make backlight last longer than 5 sec. There were hundred complains about it and they just released new keyboard for same price instead of releasing software update🤣 Bravo Logitech!
the catch is that with 30 seconds backlight on set your battery will last only a few days. Disappointing. I'm actually considering to return the S and buy the old model because of that.
I got universal dongle. My keys is YR0073., All Black. After a year, it still has power. I‘d forgotten its keys had backlight. Love that it can work with 3 devices, the main reason I purchased. Your video was concise and to the point. I‘m always how some talk hands-on but never specific as you.

Can you tell if there is any difference between both when it comes to the "quietness"? Because that is the real reason, that I am looking towards those two keyboards... And as well battery life, thas is SUPPER important, when you move from wire to wireless technology... Thanks in advance.
In Logi Options, the percentage is only shown for devices that connect with Bolt receiver. BUT, you can see the percentage of the MX Keys in the Logi Bolt app, which is the tool to pair Logi Bolt compatible devices with the Logi Bolt receiver. What an irony!
Just picked up the S for my work set up. It’s great to type on once you get used to the layout, the F Keys are shifted right a bit for that beefy escape 😂.
Gibt es denn bei deiner Tastatur keinen Unterschied bei den Farben der Buchstaben auf den Tasten? Bei mir sind auf der neuen MX Keys S durchsichtige Buchstaben und auf der alten eher milchige Buchstaben. Das führt dazu, dass die Beleuchtung der Buchstaben sehr unregelmäßig aussieht. So basically the function keys on the mx keys s is taken from the mx keys mini. Back then the regular mx keys and mx keys mini are different based on the keycaps and the key function

My misread. One thing to remember, make it forgotten under any previous device. Turn bluetooth off and only turn it back on until you get the quick flashing slot on you PC or Mac. Lots of tech, some seem knowledgeable.
I appreciate your review on the Logitech MX S Keyboard. I just bought it and I really like it. It has great functionality and is comfortable to type. The only issue I am having is sometimes when I’m typing a letter decides to go rough and runs thru - RRRRRRRRRR. Any letter. It doesn’t seem like the key is stuck on the keyboard. I use the logic bolt and not the bluetooth. I use it for work and so I’m not able to download the APP on the company computer. What would you recommend? Am I able to download the software without the APP? I would appreciate your advice

the original MX Keys can report battery percentage as well but i think it's limited to the macOS and Windows settings menus, not the Logitech app.

Did they solve the backlight iusse with this new model? On the original one I had to remove the proximity sensor as it was very distracting.
I have the new version (S) and I had to set backlight to 5 seconds anyway or the battery will only last a few days. Very disappointing.

You said it wrong. When it's bright the keys are brighter, and when it's dark the keys are darker.

Had the same problem, but it seemed to resolved itself with a driver update... Just didn't noticed it anymore

No need since the mini already has the features of the S.
Keychron q6 is the phantom. Asus strix 96 is the wraith. Best of 2023. The Keychron (with brown switches) is like, theraputic to type on.
