It's how much his apperance breaks the mold for your usual 80s movie crime lord that makes him so iconic for me. At first glances you'd assume he's just a over-worked OCP accountant that finally snapped - tbh I'd dig that if that was his back story before he went into crime.
Verhoeven deliberately had Kurtwood Smith wear glasses because by wearing them he looked like Heinrich Himmler, the founder and head of the SS in Nazi Germany. Heinrich Himmler looked like an accountant (he was a low-ranking office clerk at some point) but he was also one of the most sinister historical figures of the 20th Century.
I honestly can’t think of an equivalent line in all of cinematic history that matches the remarkable two word display of synchronized screenwriting, directing, and acting genius seen here, in this unforgettable 13 second clip. God bless this film. We will never see anything like it again.
Check out the commentary on this scene. Both Ferrer and Smith relate how Verhoeven, who was Dutch, didn't know "bitches" was considered so perjorative and proceeded to call the actresses bitches constantly before the scene.
LMAO, I convinced my friend's mother to rent this on video when about nine years old, and with his parents and little sister we watched it that evening; it was one of the best slumber parties of my childhood and we had a great night howling with laughter.
In the novelization of this scene, Clarence even takes the time to save Bob Morton's cat, who had taken a liking to him just before setting the grenade on the table.
@@turnmeondeadman4221 It's worth getting dude. I love the movie and the book takes more time to focus on Murphy's loss of humanity and how he gets it back. Also there's a tiny bit more about Murphy's family and some shit about what Boddicker and his gang were doing before the start of the movie, it all feels like cut content from the film (Probably was).
There was a series of books where the “Star Wars” films and “Back to The Future” were written in Shakespearean English... ...imagine having something as vulgar as Robocop rewritten in Elizabethan English! 😛

@@TheWaynos73 A lot of cinemas really didn't give a fuck back then with regards to age ratings, especially in small towns. I used to watch many a 15 or 18 year age rating at my local cinema back in the 90s, way before I was 15. It was all about bums in seats to make a profit.

Possibly the best line in cinematic history.
Not even in question, it 100% is.
I also concur

"Can you fly Bobby?"

THIS IS HANDS DOWN MY FAVORITE LINE IN ANY MOVIE EVER. The delivery is just so beautifully perfect.
I love how he just comes in SAYS that.... AND THEY LEAVE!!
It's called status of competence
he kinda has a gun
He has got an attitude adjuster in his hand
I mean when a guy with a gun tells you to leave, you're not gonna argue, right?
Well, doing as they are told by a man is a central part of their job...
“Bitches leave.” Dumbledore said calmly.

beetches
And no one corrected him? Hilarious.
Like with his satirical works, Paul was ahead of his time, since now "bitch" just means women in rap songs.
Well played, Verhoeven.
Well worth watching

this is actually the nicest thing Boddicker did in the film
he could have killed everyone so there's no witnesses but he just told them to leave

But like, Red Foreman was in the 70s. This is in the 21st century. So timeline-wise this would be 30-50 years later.
