What I always liked about Clarence as a villain is that there are no clear visual indicators to him being the bad guy. No eyepatch, no gold tooth, no ugly scar (at least not in the beginning), no walking with a limp or anything else as corny as that. He looks pretty much like a normal guy. He is the kind of guy that seems just as likely to crack a joke or to pull out a gun and shoot you in the head. Definitely one of my favorite movie villains!
Supposedly, Smith and Verhoeven based some of his character design on Hienrich Himmler- Hitler's right hand man. He too looked like a desk-clerk but actually played a part in the death of so many people. I think 2 other scary-ass factors are 1) His intelligence- he's pretty witty and smart and 2) His drive- despite being just a normal dude- he came closer to killing Robocop than anyone (for the second time at that).

I'm a published writer and I majored in English-Literature and studied all the great lits, and Clarence Boddicker is one of the most interesting villains I ever saw. I was a kid when I saw Robocop along with other boys my age. I'm 43 and going to be 44 next month and to this day, 30 years later, my male peers still talk about Clarence Boddicker. I think even Shakespeare himself, along with Melville, Twain, and Thoreau would be intrigued with Boddicker. I don't mean to go deep, but he is a very intriguing villain. You can do a college literature paper on him. He is fearless and doesn't fear death at all because I think he's accepted he's going to die because he knows bad guys die. He laughs at the best life throws at him (doesn't fear jail), and he is so devoted to his employer that he goes after Robocop after Robocop beats him half to death, scares him to death, and turns him in--when he knows the cops hate his guts and want his head. He kept the same crew together for a long time (not an easy task) and they're willing to die for him, and knows how to negotiate with other crime leaders. He is interesting and its obvious this was Kurtwood Smith's best performance of his career. Quick Homages to: Go-Go Yobari, Khan, Joker, etc.,

Red Foreman is bad ass
30+ years later and bitches leave is still the greatest line in cinema
"WHAAAT do you WAAAAANT!??!!?" One of my mottos every since..
This is one of the best movies ever made.
Dude, This guy was the 1 of the best antiheroes of the 80s. The coolest bad guy EVER
Brilliant character! A total villain and an amazing performance. Robocop was and is a classic.
It just gets better with age
@@davidhutchinson7888 definitely. It's got.everything. violence, humour, great casting, great storyline and u never get tired of it! I love it when Boddicker says' bitches leave!'
Clarence Boddicker is as realistic as they get.
I partially regret it wasn't him that they resurrected as Robocop 2.
The Real Mr J. Clarence is very comparable to the joker, taking over the city, murder whenever he likes, got all the money in the city, kills cops, blows up things like grand theft auto, his history of rap sheet, and his normal looking style of average men, robocop is batman to Clarence as he has to deal with him, because he made him! Clarence boddicker and the joker are 2 of my top ten bad guys ever, and third id say Anton Chigurh from No country forold men
I love that he used a silencer on bobby but then blew his whole house up. Kind of defeats the purpose, eh? ha
Maybe he didn't want anyone calling the cops before he planted the bomb
+GreenLightMe He also very carefully closes the door before leaving.
Uh... gas leak. Just an accident.
Tom Yeah The silencer probably ensures him a few extra minutes for his getaway. Not that strange.
He was leaving when the bomb went off...
There's always a cackling henchman in every '80s action movie.
Yeah and for some some reason during the 80’s and 90’s. It was always for the most part, a minority character, 🤦🏾♂️.
@@SonGoku-yb3zm The best was Leon in "Cliffhanger." His character doesn't cackle, but he's hostile and threatening towards a white accomplice throughout the film and during his fight scene with Stallone, he says something like, "I never thought I'd see the day...when a man...would put money...before his own safety...and that of his bitch."
I'll buy that for $2.14 in adjusted dollars!!!!!!!
‘Bitches leave’ gets me every time
Right after Joe says, "She was Sweeeeeeeet. I took her out".. that Clarence Boddicker smirk was utterly fabulous.
I don't think Clarence is a very nice guy
This is one of those movies that gets infinitely better with time
"Are you a college boy or something? ."
I was like 7 when I saw this and when they shot Murphy up ...it gave me nightmares. Might be the most brutal scene ever....and that black guy laughing ....still gives me chills
"Does it hurt? Does it hurrrt?"
GrooTheWanderer80 Ah HA HA HA HA AHHH HAA HA HA AH AH
That laugh was brutal LOL
I approve of this msg
me too, but I fapped
same here
I still don't know how "Bitches Leave" didn't make that list of 100 greatest movie quotes
SlippersFuzzy its the greatest quote.
Might be because "Can you fly, Bobby?"" is in the same movie.
"Shut the fuck up and do it!" Then he kicks him. I love that part. :)
Quick Homages to: Go-Go Yobari, Khan, Joker, etc.,
the writing of this movie was so mature, it never gets old
They dont make em like this no more. these are real BAD guys. enjoy young people watch the movie!!!!!!!!
Thank you Kurt for playing the most terrifying villain.
Red Foreman really went apeshit after Kitty left him XD
you cut "well give the man a hand" which is one of the best lines ever...
So this is what Korea was like...
zzzhuh lol
This is one guy I would never ever dream of calling four eyes 😂
Now, you're probably thinking I'm not a very nice guy.
"Boddy, I think you're slime."
So many classic line's, its hard to pick a favorite..but I am rather partial to 'bitches, leave'.
Robocop: You have a right to am attorney, *throws clarence through glass*
Clarence: WHAT IS THIS SHIIIIIIIITTTTTT
That's the inner Murphy coming out in the 'PRODUCT '.....
🍵🤔🍵
@@michaelklein3112 "Aren't you taking this kind of personal?"
@bwc1976 I know you are referring to something in the movie, and I know you are on 'cue' with it, but I can't quite remember. Please bring me up to speed
Sorry to be slow. 🥺
It takes a man like Clarence Boddicker to become President of the United Federation of Planets!
3:18 Is my favorite line EVER.
Fun Fact: Clarence is wearing an ascot.
"I got the muscle to shove enough of this factory so far up your STUPID WAP ASS, that you'll shit snow for a year!"
It's not just the fact that "Bitches leave" is such a great improvised line. It's the fact that he hasn't even finished saying "leave" and the bitches are already grabbing their crap and walking out. Sublime.
Pretty sure seeing a huge hand cannon didn’t play *any* part of their initial reaction.
He shoulda said, coke bitches leave
