- This is the Mizuno Wave Rebellion Pro, and it’s one of the most unusual looking shoes I’ve ever come across. It’s beautiful and bizarre. But the question is, is it any good?

For me these shoes killed my hips & thighs during the marathon! They take all the pressure off my calf’s but loaded it on my upper thighs! It could be because I’m a heel striker but the wear pattern doesn’t suggest this. It’s a fantastic shoe when you are running at pace but anything slower than that it can feel a little awkward. Going forward will definitely use for 5-10k’s. Great review Mike👍
if you heel strike im not sure the reason for purchasing this shoe, there not much cushioning at the heel because of how much it scoops up 🤷🏻♂️ i think thats on you
Heel strikers shouldn't even think about buying the Rebellion Pro. 🤷
I know what you mean , my Adidas prime X are the same , great for speed but push the exhaustion further up the body .
Nice, a pleasant surprise to get a review on this one already!
This is my favorite shoe in my rotation. It just wants to go fast! No matter how you land, it rolls you smoothly forward. The only thing it isn’t great at is easy runs. It has plenty of cushion, but it makes you want to push the pace too much! I’ll definitely be buying a second pair for my rotation.
i genuinely love this shoe. i initially thought it was gimmicky until I ran in it!
the shoe is legit
Yea me as well. Love it
It's really great to see Mizuno getting back into the game and actually making genuinely good shoes again. They seem to have taken some inspiration from their compatriot Asics in terms of realizing the need to break away from their old fuddy duddy image and get back to making exciting products with cool designs again.
the roadmap is there
I’ve been looking forward to this
thanks Fordy!
Kakizome is pure art. Really fast once you figure out the foot landing.
More stable than I expected.
Love.... these...shoes.
I admire what the designers have come up with deviating away from the competition. It’s a great looking shoe too. The mid foot stack measures 52mm?!?
I think that I have approx 55mm in my midfoot. It's definitely 50+ in the midfoot.
I have no desire to purchase or use the types of tools required to measure stack height, especially for something like midfoot stack height, where I believe you'd pretty much have to destroy the shoe to be able to make that measurement appropriately
The rotation suggestions at the end of your recent videos are awesome. I like the inputs sir it helps a lot on looking for perfect shoe rotations especially to someone like me who is considering a budget. Will there be a Nike Vaporfly 3 review? And, also what shoes will you wear in the Boston Marathon?
I will likely test it at some point so that I know what I going on in the industry. But there likely will not be a review. I will suggest Meaghan Murray over at Believe in the Run, as she and I tend to agree on most shoes
Great "on point" review Kofuzi! Again I would LOVE to see what you feel and your review on the Alphafly NEXT %2!
I ran in this shoe yesterday and I can say the it is responsive like the meta speed sky, but it can be unstable.
It's pretty cool seeing Mizuno in the super shoe game, but oh my, that heel, or lack there of, is audatious 🤯
Love this shoe really much. Have once tried a slow 5k in it. Still feel unbelievably comfort once you land on the mid/forefoot.
This is a pure racer for me - I did a 1.16.40 HM, at 39 with 2 metal plates and some screws in my back.. I was impressed with the shoes. It did ruin my thighs for a few days, and I had extreme pain on the top of my foot. Good job Mizuno
Extreme pain = good job mizuno? Ouch.
@Matt Logan bros a masochist
@@mattlogan1 the shoe works, but he did not adapt to the shoes.
New shoe -> new style. You gotta drastically reduce your distance the first few runs in a shoe, especially in a shoe that promotes forefoot strikes, since most people heelstrike.
What is the difference when you compare Rebellion Pro to Rebellion Flash? As I am Mizuno fan, I have Wave Riders for daily, Wave Rebellion for tempo/threshold runs and Wave Duel Neo for the 10k/HM race.
ua-cam.com/video/LylqAx7cwhU/v-deo.html
No it is not a gimmick , but you have to be on your game to get the most of it . I love that I own it , but I know I am not ready to run 26.2 in the shoe and I also understand it might never be, but that's cool with me. Strange coincidence I just wrote a long response on /r shoegeek about this shoe, came on youtube and saw this post 🙂. That Hyperion MAX/rebellion pro combo is intriguing perhaps for the New York training block later in the year.
I ran the Dong-A Marathon with these shoes on. It was definitely easy to roll throughout the run. Personally, I think it's similar to Nike Vaporfly or Adios Pro3.
Hope you had a great race!
Like the recommendations for daily trainers to compliment the race day shoes 👍
Thanks for clarifying: "keeps you on your toes". Might get a pair. "On your toes" could be synonymous with race volunteers in 80's road races yelling: "ITS ALL DOWNHILL FROM HERE!" but it was often uphill to the finish.
Hey, Mizuno, bring back the Hitogami please!
the hair is looking great!
this new foam technology really make all the shoe designer busy. cant imagine it happens 5 years ago
Its interesting you brought up the Endorphin Pro 2s. I just bought a pair for $77. Pretty good value proposition.
I didn't love that shoe when it came out. I still think that it's not a marathon shoe for most people. But it seems to keep coming up in conversation
As a heel striker this shoe is terrifying.
Seems like the kind of shoe you have to try to see if it's for you. Nice video. Haircut makes you look younger!
Thanks!
You mentioned that this shoe kind of punishes you a little bit if your firm gets sloppy toward the end of a run. What are a couple of examples of shoes that are more forgiving if your form gets sloppy? Asking for a friend.
Endorphin Elite feels more comfortable to me to just lock in to a pace and stay there then keep going at or close to that pace when the legs get tired. I do think that the Wave Rebellion Pro as good as it is would smash my upper legs and hips up over the later miles in a Marathon.
SC Elite 3
With which shoes will I be comfortable running 21km and 42km? nike invincible 2-3 or adidas boston 11 or nike zoom fly 5 or asic novablast 3 ? Shoes are very expensive in Turkey. We pay 2-3 shoes per shoe, so I can't look for top class shoes. If I could, I would buy adidas adios 3 pro, nike alpha 2 and mizuno rebellion pro if it was in turkey, but unfortunately that's the case.
I’m not sure I understand the question, but I will assume that you aware aski my which of the shoes listed would be good for racing a half marathon or marathon. I will say I enjoy invincible 3 at marathon effort, if you are looking for a non- racing shoe to race in
I have had many Mizuno apparels but I never had a mizuno running shoe before. Even though this shoe looks very appealing I don't think I'll ever need a shoe that has 35mm forefoot stack. This shoe has the same forefoot stack with my deviate nitro elite's rear side which is a totally overkill for my workouts.
it looks bloody good while running
I feel your way of foot strike (more forefoot) works well with the shoe design.
I have always noticed that in the slo-mo part of your videos.
Best running show reviews in UA-cam! Thanks Kofuzi! 🏃🏾🏁👟
Thank you 🙏
haircut looks amazing to me and the shoes definitely look crazy
thank you. I've been especially self conscious about the haircut
Yo! Is this the first time you cut your hair since growing it out? Looks dope man.
I cut it very short a couple of Novembers ago, which was the last haircut before this one
Think that your potential race shoe line up is exactly the same as mine at the moment?
(1) Endorphin Elite
(2) Wave Rebellion Pro or Metaspeed Sky+
some pretty good options
My badminton shoes are mostly mizuno! I like that they are entering the running world with a great shoe
They’ve been in the running world for a long time. This is just a turning point for them with something very innovative compared to their past offerings.
@@levandmarthapolyakin-aaron2183 i mean in the supershoe market top end obviously
I wonder if there are badminton shoe reviews on UA-cam
@@kofuzi there are reviews but mostly on how light the shoe is, the grip of the outsole and the carbon plate.
And they looked amazing on you in person in real life - great review as always
I love that shoe 🥰
Set my 10 mile PR in these babies. Great shoe but really pushes me onto my forefoot. Really tired my muscles out at first but I got used to it. My form has improved a bit as I've worked with a PT recently so I should probably go back and try them again and see how it feels now.
oooh. that will be interesting to see if you have a different impression of the shoe
I think it’s funny how different shoes can feel different to different people
I mean I love this shoe but have a completely different opinion about the firmness because I definitely do not think it feels firm in fact it feels super cushioned I would just call the wave rebellion pro very bouncy and felt soft too me
And I love soft shoes
My easy day shoe is the Nike invincible one or two but not the 3
And speed day shoe is saconey speed 3 although I might start using the mizuno because it’s so fun
the vaporfly is also very good at speed but it is also good at my slower race paces and is also a bit nimbler for uneven and course with swich backs .
Race day shoe is Nike vaporfly 3 but again I might change that to the mizuno but atm I just don’t think I can keep up the pace that mizuno is so good at
Just back from my run and this is first when I opened UA-cam. Great video as usual.
hope you had a great run!
I was lucky enough to be able to run in these because I have a cousin who works for product development in Mizuno (she is Japan based). It looks crazy, but it’s actually a very well performing shoe- in the 3:30min/km pace that is. I found that any place slower makes the entire ride uncomfortable and weird.
New Hair Cut Brother
Mizuno wave riders and inspires with a big old 12mm heel drop, and these with no heel. Mizuno, how about something in between with maybe a 8mm drop and an actual heel ?
Unfortunately it's not for everyone😢 . Got the shoe at a very good price and I ordered half size up but it's very snug and my big toe hurts a lot... Maybe a full size up would be better (I don't have wide feet). Been a forefoot runner I don't really get that pop feeling.
You have to find the landing sweet spot to get the 100% of the shoe and during a marathon it's very hard to think your foot strike.
It grips like a track spike and the upper is very comfortable... Nothing fancy and revolutionary but at the same time top quality and soft feeling (if it wasn't snug it would be the best I have tried).
It's a very very fast shoe but I think it's for experienced runners .
I got them for 140euros after some discount codes.
I'm actually excited how long they will last. I was super disappointed with nikes racing shoes usually lasting around 200miles for me at max.
So I do hope I get some more miles out of them, mizuno so far never disappointed me.
And update about the reliability and distance would be really great 🤗
Thanks for the video
racing shoes do seem to be lasting longer.
but keep in mind, you'd totally expect a mini van to get at least 100,000, if not 200,000 miles. you wouldn't demand the same from an F1 car.
Right, nike can easily damage
Are you going to run the Boston marathon with the rebellion Pro ? Is it better than the vaporfly and endorphin Pro?
Hopefully will get to run another race in the Wave Rebellion Pro. 🤞Stay tuned
@@kofuzi it was nice seeing you first time today after the shake out run and took a selfie together. I’ll try to attend again next time in another city hopefully.
What about the sizing, you wear the same size with the asics metaspeed?
See you in Boston... Can't imagine running 16 miles downhill in this shoe. Seems like it would be an epic fail, at least for me..
Wonder if Nike decided to copy this geometry and shaved off that heel part in the Alphaflys, it would make that super shoe a lot more super… for the super elite runners (of course). 🤔
Shoe looks weird also nice hair man
I feel like shoe looks nice and hair looks weird
@@kofuzi Id just grow it out in the front a bit more
I am not in a rush but when I am ready to retire my Alphafly 1, I think this shoe will be a good replacement for me. Hopefully, by then I will find a deal to bring the price down a bit.
First time watching your channel, I thought your accent was familiar. Then there were clips of running a country road between horribly flat cornfields and I realized you are probably from Illinois. If so that would explain it.
I'm from New Jersey
@@kofuzi in that case I suppose you must not have picked up one of the stronger NYC accents. Either way thanks for the good info, those shoes look pretty sick.
I currently run in a Saucony Tempus and I am a strictly forefoot runner. So much that in snow you cannot see my heels in the snow. Is this a better shoe for me than the Tempus? My distance is always around the 10 Km. I also wear orthotics insoles otherwise I am instantly injured.
No because the Tempus is a daily trainer and this is a racing shoe
@@kofuzi Thank you very much for the answer.
I have been hearing that when running marathon distance that some people are getting injuries. From memory it’s in he hip and knees. Maybe these shoes could become a great lawn mowing shoe on larger lawns.
perhaps not stable enough for that
Who said they are getting injured in these? I heard some people love them and keep them from getting knee and hip injuries.
Jodi 😂 Marathon lawn-mowing footwear of choice
They over work my quads and hips and I don't feel too comfortable about taking them to Full Marathon distance. I can see why Mizuno stated they are aimed at Sub 2:30 runners. If I could run a Sub 2:50+ or under then I would maybe be more willing to risk racing a Marathon in them. They are still a fantastic shoe to have in the rotation for anyone looking at low 3 hour Marathon time goals. I will likely be racing in the Endorphin Elite.
Is the hair still long enough to tie in the back?
Kind of
I find that the sizing of mizuno wave rebellion pro is quite different from other brand. In other brand. My size is US 9 or euro 43. But in mizuno the euro 43 is US10. Is that accurate? Thanks
Only trust "CM", size would be different from other brand, but "cm" is all the same, if you wear Nike 44.5=28.5cm, then buy mizuno 44=28.5cm
Ohhh new wave boat pro 2 🙄
Haircut 😉
yeah. I'm not a fan so far. but I'll grow into it, I suppose
You've always given the Mizuno wave series mildly negative reviews on this channel, so I'm surprised to hear that you ran in a Mizuno for a marathon. Which model was that?
Who knows. It was 13 years ago
OH SHIT HAIRCUT !!!
First time in about a year and a half
any shoe similar to the Mizuno Wave Evo Levitate? this was a older style from like 10years ago but was a great forefoot runner
I'm afraid I'm not familiar with that model
Good review. On average, how long would it take to get used to running in this shoe? Thinking it might be good for CIM this year. Should a couple speed workouts be sufficient?
I don't think it requires any break in. A long workout would be recommended in it to ensure (1a) it works for you and (1b) it doesn't chafe or hurt your foot somehow
I’m running CIM as well and wondering if you’re still considering them. I did run a half in Des Moines and liked them a lot - but obviously that’s a lot shorter distance…
Power intro!!!!
I’m a heel striker and would like to hear how the shoe would work for me. Over time Mizuno has had several designs of wave plates tuned for different purposes on different models. Which is this wave plate similar to?
none of them
Ko thanks for mentioning the 2nd channel for the streams 😅
The shoes do look cray cray… will have to try it for myself.
The other point is that your haircut is awesome! The Boston look.
Thank you
If i ever need a supershoe, it will likely be this one, since i am training in vibrams (no drop and no cushion)
The most important factor for me will be the toe box.
I can’t think of two more opposite shoes
@@kofuzi I know! But i use vibrams rn because i am interested in becoming a more well-rounded runner. But I am not a cult follower. If i need speed for races, I am all for super shoes, and this one looks like it promotes forefoot running.
Have you made a video comparing carbon platef shoes yet? I would be interested in your opinion on their feel/toe box/results/recovery
Whatever anyone may say, mizuno have the guts to try something completely different with this shoe.
I doubt it'll be right for me solely from what I heard about the pace 'required' (another gutsy move to put that out there) to get the most from the shoe.
But boy has it caught my attention!
I've long felt that categorizing shoes by pace is pretty useless. But I think there are certain cultural/regional norms where runners categorize shoes by pace whereas I might categorize shoes as being "race day" or "daily trainer" or "session shoes"
@@kofuzi interesting. I would have thought that pace would affect things like how the carbon responds, or the foam compacts and springs back?
I guess ground contact time and weight are the actual factors there, but the latter is difficult to put as a feature (and somewhat loosely will be correlated with size once you get to the typical super shoe target audience) and the premier is not something that most people quantify.
But I have no where near the experience using a variety of shoes that you do!
Is this durable?
Compared to what? Other race shoes? Yes.
Conpared to a daily trainer? No. As a category, race shoes are not as durable as daily trainers, nor do we want them to be.
Holy mother of haircuts!
For me the best running shoe also for marathon was Nike spiridon gold (1985) 😊
Great shoes ... to injury
2:11 'Carbon fibre reinforced polymer' is the proper name for what's colloquially called 'carbon'. Carbon fibre on its own is floppy like any other fibre. The polymer or plastic resin binds the fibres into the required shape and the CF provides the additional strength and rigidity that sets CFRP apart from other materials. So, in all likelihood, Mizuno's 'carbon reinforced plate' is made of much the same stuff as all the plates in the other supershoes.
Hi
where can i buy this ? or try it on?
im in Malaysia.
I am not familiar with retail channels in Malaysia
How would they do over a 5k 10k race?
I think they’d be fun
Isn’t all this stuff gimmicky?
Is this an existential question? Like what does it even all mean?
Looks brutal!!!!!
It supposed to be the pair of shoes came straight from "101 Dalmatians"
It’s a Rorschach test
I got these in the UK for £180 and still undecided, not sure I can run fast enough to get the most out of them
I got them for £169 also in the UK. Absolute bargain even if I am never brave enough to take on a Full Marathon in them.
@@MarkSmith_Best-Athletics they are the first shoe that intimidates me 😂😂😂
😂😂 The great thing about having a pair in rotation even if we are never brave enough to tackle a Full Marathon in them is that we can still run quick in them for 2 or 2.5 hours and that doing so works areas (mainly thighs, hips, shins and glutes for me) that other shoes don't work as much (making those areas stronger and us better runners). The Wave Rebellion Pro are great at taking pressure off the calf muscles though where as other race shoes that I have like the Metaspeed Sky and Sky+ work these areas. At a Sub £200 price for a shoe that is so different to anything else and has fantastic grip it's a steal 👍
If it was an extremely wet day then I might be tempted to tackle a Marathon in them because that outsole grip is amazing if it doesn't break down (only got about 50 miles on mine so far).
The sole design suggests that the target market is forefoot and midfoot strikers. Is the foam PEBAX by chance? Thanks, Mike.
dual density with both pebax foams
@@negahuhh Copy thx
That sweet spot is midfoot/slight heel area. If one lands more heel or too far forward on the forefoot (overstriding-ish), benefit will be minimal.
It's as much a gimmick as the Hoka Ten Nine was. We WON'T see many, if any, shoes with a heel like that (or the Ten Nine) in the future. They might keep the shoe in the line, but I bet the heel won't be anywhere as extreme.
You are wrong.

Good luck in Boston!
Thank you for everything you do online, your content is like the very best carbon plated marathon racer of UA-cam!
If you ever make it down to Australia please come to Melbourne, the Australian running capital.
A question, I use this shoe to encourage me to get on my forefoot more - you're a forefoot striker, did you change you're technique over time or were you always landing towards the front of your foot?
This shoe is a def why?
Wrong channel
@@kofuzi yeah, but right comment.
My main question is.....are they made by children in sweat shops like nike? If not, I'm not buying them.
Not exactly sure......but to the best of my knowledge, and based on searches....Mizuno has never been caught doing so like Nike has numerous times. There is certainly no documented case of Mizuno doing so compared to all the well documented cases of Nike doing it. But Mizuno.....like all sports brands....does make it's shoes primarily in Vietnam.
looking at the shoe it doesn't seem possible it only weighs 7oz 😮
well, 7.7oz

Are these wearable at all if not running? I walk to the track and most of the "super shoes" I tried are great once I get into my running rhythm but wreck my hips walking.
I mean, these are race shoes. If youre waking from the car to the track, it’s more than fine. But if you want to wear these casually, they’re really weird
Looks like a Masai Barefoot running shoe?
Great🎉
