This is probably my nichest song. This only makes sense if you know what a Renault Twingo is, and that it's ubiquitous in every European country apart from the UK.

For those not in the know, the first generation Renault Twingo was introduced in 1989 with little hope that it would sell well so Renault never bothered to make a right-hand drive variant to sell in countries driving on the left. To their surprise the cute styling of the Twingo paired with its low weight, efficient small engine and spaciousness for its size won over customers in the millions, making the Twingo ubiquititous in cities across Europe. The UK wasn't getting any though. It took untill 2007 for the replacement to come. This was a much more conventionally drawn car, much more similar to other Renault models of the time, whereas the original had been a clear standout from the rest of Renault's offerings. By then there had been 17 model years of Twingo that looked basically the same, so to everyone the original remains the essence of Twingo and that is probably what Jay is referring to by saying he'll never see a Twingo againm
Being based on the outgoing second generation Clio, the new Twingo was also available as a right hand drive variant. In a lot of ways it tried to be a regular car a lot more than the original did, with now a turbocharged GT variant, a diesel variant and even a super sporty RS with a big 1.6 liter engine, supplementing the 1.2 16v and poverty spec 1.2 8v models. It didn't really matter though. As much as they were sold, the new Twingo wouldn't be as loved as the old and so in 2014, after only 6 model years with a major facelift in the 5th year, the 3rd generation of Twingo was introduced which would again be different and quirky. Two more doors on the side and the engine under the boot to supposedly make better use of interior space. The jury still isn't out though and to be honest I'm glad I have a Twingo II. Not even Jay would know he saw a Twingo untill he'd seen the tailgate.

We just bought our second Twingo here in Hungary. $900USD for a 1998 in very good condition. Significantly more room inside than comparable cars made today, including the current, Generation 3 Twingo, which, while also a cute car, lacks the je ne sais quoi of the original. Thanks for the song.
They're coming out with an electric version soon.

I didn't expect a song about Twingos to be that touching. Also, I didn't know our Twingos were sold abroad! But I think I see what Jay means. For me, it was the car of my family in the mid-90's. We went everywhere with it! It was a purple Twingo without power steering. But at the time, everyone loved the futuristic curves of that car and it became quite a national symbol. I have so many memories hitting me when I listen to this song. Thanks Jay :)
My mother used to own a purple 2001 Renault Twingo back when I was a child. Lovely little car, and it reminds me of simpler times. :)

so fun fact. i live in the uk and i have a twingo as my daily. it's one of the mk2 twingos but even then, you hardly see them on the road. but a few years ago me and my friend drove up to france and brought a mk1 twingo and towed it back to scotland using my twingo as a tow car. my friend and i have thing thing we call "the call of the twingo buddy" where if you see another twingo, you shout "twingo buddy"

Twinning (no pun intended) a wistful, gentle tune to lyrics that let you go as deep or light as you want to take it makes this a memorable song that I love listening to.
I had this thing with my siblings that whoever saw a twingo first could hit all the others. So you'd just walk home or sth and someone suddenly yells "TWINGO" and then you get slapped.
There's something about the lyrics I don't fully understand - So he'll never see another Twingo because it's available in the UK? if taken literally, if they are sold in the UK means he will see more Twingos, right?
If I try to find a figurative sense, I guess that's because Twingo won't be unique anymore, so he won't see that car that he loved, because it won't be his special car anymore?

Actually drove my 99' mk.1 Twingo in UK when I was there for my engineering school exchange. You get quite a bit of attention.

I remember going on holiday to menorca with my family and grandparents
At the time (age 7-8) I was interested in cars and when I saw a Renault twingo I immediately got my grandpa to take a photo of this incredibly rare car for me. As we carried on around the island I saw more and more twingoes, getting my grandpa to photograph each and every one. It became a family joke, which I never knew other people cared about until now.

Renault stopped selling cars here in Canada back in 1990, but there's plenty of Renault twingos here that people have privately imported, other weird common imports are Mitsubishi delicas, Toyota Hiace, Daihatsu Mira/tanto, Japanese spec Toyota Prius's, and a tone of Nissan elgrands

I own a 1997 Twingo. Lovely car. Drives well, really smooth for its size and weight. As much legroom as any full size sedan (with the rear bench all the way backwards) or as much luggage room (with the bench all the way forwards).
Only thing is... I don't need a car so it's sitting on the parking lot most of the time.
My friend got a Twingo to work on a while back, and I absolutely loved it. We took its face off, pulled out part of its engine, nearly suffocated in it, hid from the rain in it, all in the space of one day. Hearing that it had to be scrapped made me incredibly sad :(
You can buy mine for €300. Local pickup only. It's ugly but technically sound.

Was in France last year, don't recall seeing that many Twingos. I've seen some of new ones around where I live though.
Gavers23 when I was in France in 2015 I saw loads of twingos but when I was there last summer there was barely any, it’s sort of like the last gen Escort in Britain it was a car that became so common that nobody felt bad about scraping it and in a matter of a few years they almost become extinct
