I remember visiting cousins on vacation and getting introduced to GoldenEye. Having four players was huge as I had 3 brothers and this way, we all could play at once. Pretty sure as soon as we got home from that trip, my parents bought an N64 and this game! I also remember leaving for college and jumping on eBay to buy an N64 and this game before I left; turns out, I bought a used copy where someone had "beaten" the whole thing in one of the save slots, unlocking all of the various bonus modes, which was just awesome as there were a couple I never could get. As for your praise for how closely it followed the movie, I give them full credit as I was one who got stuck in both the jail cell and on the train as I hadn't seen the movie so didn't actually know the trick for how to escape taken directly from the script! I think my favorite partd personally were the various difficulty modes based on which objectives you had to complete and the unlockable cheats, both for what they were and how you earned them. Probably my favorite way those two game mechanics have been used in a video game, honestly. (By the way, want a sure fire way to make your brothers mad? Learn the remote mine combo where you throw the mine, wait a heartbeat for it to hit them, and then blow it up. They needed the golden gun playing as Oddjob just to compete with that trick...let alone if there were proximity mines I could scatter around too!)
@SayItIsntJoe Takes some practice not to accidentally take yourself out too but sometimes that is a small price to pay to clear a younger brother out of one of the hidden passageways in a couple of those levels. Long before I ever heard the term "camper" in Call of Duty, my brothers and I were experts in it in GoldenEye!
Another fantastic episode, Joe. We’re consistently impressed by your production values, and it was great seeing shots of the dev team, etc. What a huge (and hugely expensive at $69.99) game this was on release. And hardly anyone knew how brilliant it would feel to play until they picked it up!
How in the ever-loving f*** does this video only have 150 views? You are truly a hidden gem of UA-cam. Keep up the great work, with a consistent upload schedule with videos of this quality you'll make it big in no time
Also just as a note, your voice over is slightly ahead of the facecam footage. It might be a glitch on my end but you should make sure that you're syncing the audio correctly just in case
The first console I got was the N64, and the first game my parents bought was Goldeneye because my dad was a big 007 fan. So it's the first game I played a ton. I still recognize every single level track that you used.
That's amazing! When I got my n64, the first game I got was Mario 64, and while that was awesome enough I didn't own goldeneye until probably 4 years later.. but my best friend had it, and we wore that game out!
Going back to it after all this time felt like a brand new playthrough for me, so there's no reason you can't try it now! (And thank you for your service)
I still have my N64 and Goldeneye game. Also, this was my first console and the game too. I had so many memories playing this with my cousins. I never knew it was close to being cancelled.
Yes thank god! I also have The World's Not Enough on N64. I thought it was good. It was a step up from Goldeneye with graphics, animation, and voice acting. If you are interested reviewing that one.
A trend-setter and proof FPS could work on a console... at least that's how history judged it. I can't say I thought much of that as a kid, I was never one to think too much of multiplayer and so. What this game was for me, was a game that dropped just as I got good enough at English to really understand plot AND the descriptions of the alternate objectives. Made me into a little achievment hunter, plus it made me understand how immersive FPS worlds could be when you really looked around in them, instead of just running around shooting it up.
The single player was amazing. It still does stuff modern shooters don't. Most great fps games multiplayer it what makes for the long legs but that Singleplayer was revolutionary.
This game is so nice to play on Xbox today. The Switch version is janky and a testament to the standing criticism but the Xbox version runs smooth and plays nice.
We're all entitled to our opinions about games and UA-cam content too. I loved the game, and lots of others did too, which is good enough for me. But I'm not mad at ya!
@@SayItIsntJoe lol don't be mad. it's just a comment on a video on the internet. you don't need to tell anyone that they can have an opinion. we're not all American haha

you don't think it's because of the generic nature of the content? i'm guessing there is at least a million channels like this
@neurathal0n534 Wow, thank you for the support!! I'll keep making 'em-
@nil0bject that could be true, but this channel here is mine, and I like what I do. Good news is nobody's making you watch my videos!
@@SayItIsntJoe Good news, everybody!
Love the reviews Joe!
Thank you!

@Curlyheart I mean, I go by Joe but it wouldn't be the first time I got called Joel that's for sure!

Not gonna lie, never actually played it. I was in the Army at the time and I had a PS1, and I only knew one dude in the barracks with an N64.

This is a game that I couldn't get into. I didn't like the controls even back when it came out. It just killed it for me. Same with Turok.
I can understand that! Turok I definitely didn't get into myself, it was all too... foggy

Nah man I ain't hearing it from anyone else lol that game was legendary. Anyone tryna downplay it, you're just wrong lol

So it's safe to say you loved it too? Haha thanks for the comment!
If I am being honest I think the multi-player is what carried this game as far as it did.
Nah man for the time it was a rather complete console shooter, legendary music, the presentation was killer

Your positive comments really bring the energy up in this channel.
@@SayItIsntJoe I bring positive comments most of the time sir
it was literally my most hated fps. after playing wolf3d, doom and marathon this game is janky
