    @8:51 Lucasfilm censored several elements of the original game. However, Nintendo of America had its own censorship system and did not approve of the game the way it was ported over initially and ordered several changes before they approved and manufactureed the game. However, after manufacturing 250,000 cartridges, Nintendo noticed the microwavable hamster and Jaleco/Lucasfilm had to remove it from any future orders of cartridges. This wasnt a big deal in North America because they never needed to order any more cartridges, but they still needed to place orders for the European market (no microwavable hamster in Europe).

    fyi when sealing them you can just use their icons on the top of the screen... click your seal that you wanna use pauses the game (as im sure your aware) then you just go to the top instead of trying to click the monster... this helps drastically especially when shiny hunting and enemies can die within the first couple milliseconds of hitting start lol

    It's kinda funny to hear the final verdict be that with a little more effort they could have had something really good, because it sounds like a lack of effort was absolutely NOT the problem here. A surplus of effort leading to a ton of extra modes and advanced things like first person perspective mazes on the NES, but where no element is polished enough to be well-done fun though, that soubds like the issue. Still, if it all ends with me being impressed that they managed to get all this in one cart, I guess gambling on more but less-refined content is a pretty good gamble in the end.

    • @SayItIsntJoe
      @SayItIsntJoe Місяць тому

      @goranisacson2502 that's a fair take. I guess my point was if they'd focused on the gameplay a little more than making the story as detailed as they did, which they also did kinda poorly, I would have enjoyed it more. If that meant reducing a few modes that would have been fine with me

    You say there are three endings, but I'd say there are five, with one of them being the nuclear meltdown that you showed in the video. But for winning the game, there is basically the base ending and two alternate endings, so the three you stated, but there's also a unique sequence if you meet the requirements for both alternate endings at the same time. I remember once hearing that ending referred to as the secret fourth ending. I believe there can also be some variations of the endings dependent on whether Dave is alive or dead.

    All your Yaolings fighting at the same time making it more like an RTS is an interesting twist, though I wonder if it will draw in Monster catching fans because of this choice. I've seen some games on the way that use this twist on the traditional gameplay formula, taking out lots of Monsters at the same time, but I feel like one of the charms of monster-catching games is each monsters individuality, how their design and gameplay style merge and really make it so that one particular monster becomes your favorite etc. This seems much more like you are meant to have multiples of monsters to overwhelm the enemy with numbers, and that seems like it would make for less interesting monsters. Still, I do like the premise and the twist on the "travel all across the land and go to different gyms", so I will probably take a look at this as well :) A nice recommendation, I just wonder if it's going to be a hit with the monster collector fans when it doesn't seem to put much importance on individual monsters.

    • @SayItIsntJoe
      @SayItIsntJoe Місяць тому

      @goranisacson2502 I thought about that too, but the combination of yaolings you have in your party makes a ton of difference. Because of each types different skills, you can go in with brute force and get overwhelmed, or go all ranged and get run over quickly. That's also why each of the "schools" you face has a different focus, including force - the lesson you learn pretty quick is balance matters a lot. Also as yaolings evolve, their skills change and so do their stats, so a tank in his first evolution might be a lot less useful against certain opponents once evolved, and you kinda want slash need the evolution to stay strong enough to keep up as you face opponents that are evolved. So they did a really good job balancing that all out, I think. I'm no expert of course.

      Yeah I was hoping they'd get a release on another platform too. I played it pre-release so it's possible it'll be other places soon. Even on PC it was worth the play tho

      @GREATGEAR wow thanks! I use a Shure MV7. It's a great little mic for the price, and has XLR and USB output options which is also nice.

    It's not really a saturated genre on console there's like 15 to 20 at best games of its type lolz and like 5 main franchises for it, pokemon, digimon, smt, persona??? And maybe the dragon quest monsters spin offs now.

      It could just be my perspective, since this is the kind of game I wouldn't usually play but I really enjoyed. This whole channel is just my opinions as a lifelong gamer anyhow - I just want to share interesting games I find and play with others

    It was tough to get behind this game as a kid, having seen the movie in theaters. Even the first one, for the Famicom, which we didn’t get in the states, fails to capture the feel of the movie. Believe it or not, the Atari XL/C64 etc. version is the most faithful! Excellent overview and critical look as always, Joe!

      Glad someone agrees with me!! As with many games made from movies, I wouldn't have such a negative opinion if it wasn't related to the film but.. I mean that's on them. Don't mess with a fandom lol - thank you!

    I really like first, but MI2 is way overrated game imo. I think it fails quite a bit in humor and especially gameplay that has a lot of nonsensical puzzles and what I really, really dislike which is backtracking in adventure games. Tbh I think I like Indiana Jones titles way more.

    • @SayItIsntJoe
      @SayItIsntJoe Місяць тому

      I definitely need to add the Indiana games to my list. I agree on the 1st vs 2nd thing, but there are some parts of 2 I enjoyed more, so for me it's a mixed bag. After 2 though... I dunno. I was never a fan.

    • @jothain
      @jothain Місяць тому

      @@SayItIsntJoe Yeah, games after MI2 are... I suppose ok, but they kinda miss the charm original two had. Many people highly dislike style change in graphics, but I'm personally fine with the new style. But anyway Indy games have a lot of that MI feel in them. Sure they're way more so-to-say serious titles compared to MI's, but they still have lot of that Indy movie charm and imo are perfect adaptations of movies to game. Sure all these are personal preferences. That being said if I'd have to name best developer title, I think I'd give it to Day of the Tentacle in the end.

    Damn Brotha This Game Sux & it was Hard as Heck! Not even Gamepro Mag Could help you, your pertty much on your own. The Two things I like about this Game mind you "2 Things" was The Cover Art and The Soundtrack. The Cover Art always made me Believe it was the plot to the Next Movie which we Never Got & still haven't gotten🤞🤞. Yet I played this game a million times and "Never" beat it. Congrats on your Victory🎉🎉🎉 Top 7 Hardest Nes Game maybe 5. #NewSub #1stTimeViewer ps: it's weird to Hate the Game so much, & yet Love Da Game at the same Time...
