I'm an African, a student of finance in Botswana and this is one of the most important podcast I've come across in a while, it has reconciled and brought together ideas that I have been trying to figure out in isolation, I'm truly grateful for the knowledge and will take it further into my future endeavors
I think she did a great job of putting together different economic concepts, historical realities and a vision for the future. Magatte has clearly thought through the issues and is careful to consider the consequences for people in the future.

That's the true meaning of strong and Independent woman. Being an Immigrant moving to second country, making six figure in her 20s, then try to help her folks back in her home country is remarkable .
Thanks to France that got her a free education, and ZERO student debt with french taxpayer money. Not mentioning the free healthcare and subsidised housing. Then when she became an independent adult, and it was time for her to repay a bit of what she was given, she used this free cultural capital to get a futur for herself in the US.

I am from the Democratic Republic of Congo, but now I am resident in the USA. While listening to Magatte made me think about my experience when I came in the Unites States. I saw infrastructures and other opportunities I benefitted so far in this country as an immigrant, and wondered why political authorities of my country whi have traveled in Europe and America ansd see these things but couldn't replicate that back in our country? I learn a lot from this conversation and I for a moment forgot about my question but today something shifted in my mind...

It's only when a person's mind has been unshackled from artificial but common restraints that dominate modern western culture, that a person can think freely, followed by speaking freely and acting in a manner befitting freedom.
A person can have access to all the means and opportunities, but if their mind is enslaved to the current system then they will only serve that system.
It is indeed refreshing to see examples of free people who will not be bound. Even more rare is to see someone committed to helping others experience freedom let alone two such people conversing about it.
@@Zoomo2697 The great irony is that the greatest way for someone to experience freedom is by the deepest commitment to their God-given masculine or feminine role, not to be confused with human culture which often twists such things, especially modern culture which urges people to be free from the wrong things like responsibility and morality...above all virtue.
Another part of freedom imo is loving those things which are good, and hating those things that are evil and to do so without the sense of needing to apologize for either one.

I'm a 52 yr old white male who didnt have any real life experience with racism til high school which when I realized what was being said by friends and others, I was sick to my stomach and learned quickly that racism did exist. However I do not support BLM simply because that is the definition of racism. Even if it comes from a good place it would be racist to say any particular race matters. Logic says all lives matter. Could you imagine if there was a college fund specifically named white college fund? I'm just saying if you are caught up in believing that a certain race is any more important than yours, whatever that may be, then you are being racist whether you think so or not. Of course the people that do support BLM are also the ones that say no human is illegal. Seriously? That is even more absurd

You see, right now there is a system that disproportionally provides for different „races“, which leads and has led to disadvantage. Setting the focus on the neglected and disadvantaged ethnic groups of society does not translate to these being more important than others. Black Lives Matter means black lives ALSO matter, not ONLY white lives. And that’s because society has clearly shown that black lives are not as „matterful“ as white lives. It’s like having an exclusive day with your oldest. Not because your oldest is more important than the younger ones, it’s because your oldest hasn’t been getting AS MUCH attention lately.

Growing up in Nigeria when I first learnt the definition of capitalism I knew it was the solution to our country’s problems. I then went on to hear for the rest of my life how bad it is and this left me looking for other viable solutions. Now I am convinced again that my instincts were right. All hail the free markets!

This conversation has answered many questions that were in the back of my mind for a long time. My family has Puerto Rican heritage, and you see many of the same issues that affect poorer countries. The tourism trade is like a blindfold that covers the reality of what it's really like to live there. Often people tend to blame colonialism, but, obviously, it's plain to see that it's the over regulation that stops so much from happening. Thank you Magatte for keeping you mind and heart open to God and articulating your experience. (And willing to do something the right thing about it.) And, thank you Jordan, for addressing this controversial topic.

Raw education will set you free. She's got Good ideas. Brilliant woman. However, Africa is not independent and still under new methodologies of colonialism (i.e., neo-colonialism). To be blind to this fact is to be ignorant. Great African leaders with revolutionary and transformative ideas to unleash Africa are murdered. The most recent on this list is the murder of Gaddafi and the utter destruction of Libya, a formerly well-to-do country. EUROPE IS THE REASON THAT AFRICA IS IMPOVERISHED! Any ideas that do not start with removing Europeans from the African question will soon meet their doom. That's where to start or they will surely sabotage everything you do that could bring about a fruitful systemic change. They secretly war against any changes in Africa. When you hear them speak of the territorial integrity of the criminal maps that they drew to balkanize, destabilize, and exploit Africa, they mean the integrity of the unjust status quo. That's the status quo that enables their economic interest (i.e., genocidal thievery of African resources) to subsist. They have no problem slaughtering Africans who threaten the status quo. Playing by the Western dictates is the bane of Africa. China does not play by such rules, so any comparison is at best asinine. The most fundamental aspect of development is power (Therein lies good leadership, education, and Afro-centric policies that cannot be influenced by enemies of progress using fraudulent aids)! The power to tell the colonial thieves to go to blazes and burn to ashes and remain alive after that should be Africa's goal! Mugabe tried, but the West quickly sabotaged his country with arbitrary and lawless sanctions. Gaddafi was on the right track for African trade but was murdered in full view of the world. What about Thomas Sankara, Patrice Lumumba, and the rest of the African leaders that were slaughtered by European COLONIAL armed robbers for seeking a better Africa? Africans, including the intelligentsia, are painfully miseducated. The goal of the Western powers, no matter what they say or do, is to pillage African resources and keep them perpetually subjugated. You cannot thrive or prosper when thieves are bleeding your human and natural resources. You must remove the thieves first. Then you can make progress. Thieves in this context mean extremely lawless and murderous armed robbers who supply their African puppets weapons to brutally keep a very shaky peace in the face of a monstrous injustice.

What I value about Dr. Peterson is that he push forward important conversation. People can say what they want, but he’s necessary.

It’s like hearing myself and many of my battles in another soul. What a beautiful, eloquent, charming and powerful woman. I was born and raised in the UK of Ethiopian parents who fled Ethiopia after the bloody emergence of a Communist Marxist regime that took hold there decades ago. After 35 years in London and after travelling across continents I have now moved to Addis Ababa Ethiopia full time and work on the improvement of my people through education and entrepreneurship. No time for victim mentality. The time for Africans to stand up is now! A stunning continent with soooo much potential.

There aren't enough entrepeneurs(older smart people) who will hire the youth.

She doesn’t understand that the reason things suck in Africa is because everyone on the high end in the Preato (spelling isn’t my strong suit) distribution has fled. Things suck in Africa because of the loss of human capital. Instead of fixing the countries problems the people who have the wherewithal to make changes flee. The people left DO in fact have lower scores on the “unmentionable” test. I don’t think the continent, meaning the people, are capable doing any better than what is there.

Miss Wade makes it sound as though Africa is a stupid place for stupid people. I agree with her when she says that corruption is not Africa's problem because corruption is always the symptom never the cause (as is the case with all third-world countries) but I don't agree that Colonialism has nothing to do with it. That is just plain stupid. Colonialism laid the foundation of inequality and instability and neo-colonialism continues to do the job of colonialism via the back door.
She acknowledges that Africa was raped tortured and traumatized but then says all Africa needs to do is get over itself. Yes, it is true, Africa does need to get over itself, but that's much easier said than done. Who just gets over centuries of mass trauma just like that. Africa's Metal Health (not to mention its languages, folkways, and moray) have been decimated making the simple solution that Miss Wade is talking about anything but straightforward.
Then she talks about being dissolution with the Left like Africa's problem is a Western Democratic problem that is easily resolved with Western-style political solutions. Someone needs to tell her that the Democratic process has never solved third-world problems, only first-world ones.
The Democratic process is not robust enough to lift you up from the bottom it is only effective at keeping you on top. Third world Democracies are too easily manipulated by first-world democracies, that is why First world Democracies are so hostile to Third world leaders when they do not have them in their pockets. Such wise leaders have a tendency to get the sort of things done that Western-backed leaders only ever play lip service to.
But Miss Wade is not totally wrong, in fact, she is telling many truths and actually makes a great deal of sense, it's just unfortunate that she oversimplifies everything and fails to grasp the overall complexities that make it difficult for Africa to rise.

She's not really a person to model yourself after. She moved to multiple different countries to take advantage of benefits paid for and made by those people, then she got into jobs that made lots of money.

Great countries are great because the people that make those countries are making their own little section as best as they can make it. She could have made senegal better, but she didn't, so Senegal sucks. Now, she feels bad and is trying to help other countries become great.

Man, thank you for having this woman on this is the best possible example a black person could ever have the pleasure to hear in America. I'm black myself, and I can't tell you how happy I am to see such an example of a person like it means a lot.
Don't forget that this black person in america got her education for free in France, without a single $ of student debt. Not mentioning the subsidized housing her parents got, and free healthcare. Maybe its time to ask for a different model in the US.
Miss Wade makes it sound as though Africa is a stupid place for stupid people. I agree with her when she says that corruption is not Africa's problem because corruption is always the symptom never the cause (as is the case with all third-world countries) but I don't agree that Colonialism has nothing to do with it. That is just plain stupid. Colonialism laid the foundation of inequality and instability and neo-colonialism continues to do the job of colonialism via the back door.
She acknowledges that Africa was raped tortured and traumatized but then says all Africa needs to do is get over itself. Yes, it is true, Africa does need to get over itself, but that's much easier said than done. Who just gets over centuries of mass trauma just like that. Africa's Metal Health (not to mention its languages, folkways, and morays) have been decimated making the simple solution that Miss Wade is talking about anything but straightforward.
Then she talks about being dissolution with the Left like Africa's problem is a Western Democratic problem that is easily resolved with Western-style political solutions. Someone needs to tell her that the Democratic process has never solved third-world problems, only first-world ones.
The Democratic process is not robust enough to lift you up from the bottom it is only effective at keeping you on top. Third world Democracies are too easily manipulated by first-world democracies, that is why First world Democracies are so hostile to Third world leaders when they do not have them in their pockets. Such wise leaders have a tendency to get the sort of things done that Western-backed leaders only ever play lip service to.
But Miss Wade is not totally wrong, in fact, she is telling many truths and actually makes a great deal of sense. it's just unfortunate that she oversimplifies everything and fails to grasp the overall complexities that make it difficult for Africa to rise.
This has got to be my favourite listen in so long. She makes so many great points that could spark so much conversation and enquiry. Loved it

What an inspiring and eye-opening video. I'm a middle-class American who has had the privilege to scroll on youtube and indulge in political content left and right that engages in little nuance and your video called me out on a lot of my perceptions. Once again much respect to Dr. Peterson for sharing these important conversations with the world. I won't say that I agreed with everything you two said, but it has opened my eyes to a new perspective. I've been raised in an ignorant political culture where the only issues highlighted by the press are the ones that pertain to America, so I knew little about the issues faced in Africa, and I do admit that I was *that* person that would assume Africa's lacking economic status was due to colonialism and geography, but I now have a much more nuanced view on the whole matter. Thank you Dr. Peterson and Magatte Wade.

This interview and Yeonmi Park are perhaps the most powerful and influential discussions I've seen. Guests like John Verveke and other intellectuals are fascinating and interesting, but they can't compare to this kind of experiential and practical and moving talks that illustrate the real world impact of economic and political ideologies.
As a Haitian myself, I've been saying this for decades! Super glad and proud that she has brought up all of these points, especially of economic freedom! 🙌🏾 establish the right environment for economics to thrive.. free markets and Capitalism really is the solution.
This is a dangerous thing she is going after and she isn't the 1st. There's many centuries behind the destabilization of Africa and of it's people and Pan African descendants. What she's doing should not be taken lightly and I think she know's that.

I am very grateful for having been enlightened by Ms Wade’s account of the economic history of Africa. She has also shown us how being solution-oriented, she had succeeded in overcoming misguided perceptions and significantly contribute to a whole continent of people. Ms Wade, thank you for showing us to reject lies that we have been fed and not play the victim. Thank God for your sense of responsibility and hard work! I am aghast at the topics that were covered and the incorrect way pretty much all of us have been looking at the poverty of African countries. Of course, mainstream media and even social media (podcasts, UA-cam, etc) are not talking about any of this. Without this video, I would be none the wiser.

I'm an African medical student ,and recently I've been involved with the business world trying to figure out how I'm gonna put my fingers on it, and I believe after this podcast my whole ideas were changed ! About Africa, the capitalism , "new shape of racism" and If I'm gonna take anyone as my role model in the business world it's gonna be this super powerful women !
