I modded my Vita recently and Sony was really ahead of its time with it - especially with the OLED on its first model. I still enjoy playing my PS1 and PSP games on it even when a bunch of other emulation handhelds are out.
Having modded PS vita is the best. Playing all my old favorite PS1 PSP PSvita and not to mention the homebrew community. I got Cuphead running on my Vita, Bully, Max Payne, GTA 3 VC and San Andreas. Those games are native to the Vita. Huge shout out to the homebrew community for keeping this alive
I’d recommend just modding your PS3 so that you could play PS1 games with a proper DualShock controller rather than having to deal with solutions such as casting your vita to a tv and/or getting some sort of 3rd party controller to somehow connect to the vita. I’ve got a modded PS3 and from my personal experience, it plays games just as good as the PS1. Plus any PS3 can play just about any PS1 game disc natively without any sort of internet connection, which is a also huge plus in my opinion.
Yes, you can get a ps TV. Can be expensive now, but allows you to play most vita games without jailbreak, can use ps3 controller. I personally use grips for longer play sessions.
Never seen disc rot on ps1 games. I did on Saturn games, but that was a manufacturing defect that affected mostly SEGA disc based consoles. All my early 90s music CDs never had any issues. Honestly, retro games that were prone to disc rot would already have it by now. Even scratched discs can be brought back to life with something like Novus. Just be reasonable on how you store them, and there should be any issues any time soon - everything breaks down eventually, even digital store fronts...
Finally you are talking about vita games, and downloading from ps network is not emulating but I modded mine to get the games I didn’t have and it’s better to have alternatives
Its an image of the disc! so Yes its "emulation" as its not on original hardware however its OFFICIAL emulation which is what's legit AF. With that said, as you know sometimes unofficial emulators are better than the real thing. PS vita is life! Glad to see your progression this way as you continue to do your thing, curate, switch it up & diversify!
Unless you've already experienced disc rot with how you're storing your games, you're probably just over concerned. Console and disc laser issues are more likely. But if you're already convinced on emulation, you're spoiled for choice on cheapo anbernic devices that have HDMI out and bluetooth controller support.
Definitely if you jailbreak it. It'll play "backed up" vita games, psp games, PS1 games, and a raft of pc game mods. Cuphead is especially good in the Vita.
Do not re buy souikeden. They are remastering it. Set to release soon. I think retro game prices are going to suffer these next few years. It seems like every banger is getting a remaster or remake. I've sold so many of my retro copies of games for the new ps4 or ps5 releases.

You can look into ergonomic grips for the Vita. It solves the hand cramping issue significantly.
i just said the same thing! lol
Thank you for showing vita love. Love that thing so much. Need to jailbreak my second one.

PS Vita could've been the best device for emulation if it was able to emulate PS2 games but sadly it was not possible.
Modding vita takes less time than it took for me to watch your video…5mins tops you’ll be ready to play like every ps1,psp & vita

Actually, ps1 on psp and vita is 80% hardware, mips based and 20% emulation for certain cpu tasks. Its as close to hardware as it gets.
Get 3d printed handgrips for your vita and other handhelds well worth the $10.

Is the vita worth buying ?
