  • The Golubac Fortreess, which was built during the 14th century by Medieval Serbian state, is located in the Braničevo District of north-eastern Serbia and sits at the entrance to the Djerdap National Park, near the Romanian border. The fotress overlooks the Iron Gate gorge where the Danube (Dunav) river narrows.
It’s a beatiful historical site, which is worth the 140km drive from Belgrade…provided you go there on the right day!!

Viminacium. It's on Danube, pretty near Golubac.
This place beats all sites in an area.

Yes I am learning that there was a lot near there to see and do. The trouble is that we were with my in-laws and they are older and can’t do as much as we can. But next time we plan to see all of what we missed 😅

Many people visit museums (and a fortress is a museum) during the weekends, so museums are closed on Mondays. This rule applies to almost the entire world. Some choose a different day, like the Louvre, which is closed on Tuesdays.

In Canada museums and most attractions are open 7 days a week. Same in Egypt. Same in UAE. So I wouldn’t say that this rule applies to the whole world. Given that people who travel and visit these places are often coming from other countries, they aren’t necessarily coming specifically on a weekend, which is why many places are open daily. Either way, I learned my lesson to double check before going.

I don't have to convince you of anything. You can easily check the information online. Museums need one day to organize and clean the museum or update collections. I believe some work 24/7, but that's not the rule.

You could go see it from the river. Small boats make tours every day (even on Mondays) from Golubac town to fortress. Quite nice.

Oh man. I really feel like I missed out lol we need a tour guide next time or something! Thanks for the info.

A loooot of museums, all around the world are closed on Monday (because they are open on weekend) and it's the same with restaurants. Anyway, you should always check the working hours and plan your visits.

I lived in Canada for 12 years, as well as UAE and Egypt and all 3 counties have museums and attractions open 7 days a week so it would not be obvious to me that it would be closed on a Monday. Many people were also there on the same day, other tourists, so clearly the Monday rule is not know by everyone. I also said in my video many times that I should have checked lol people do make mistakes.

@@gamal-salem it was a bummer but I hope you'll have an opportunity to visit the location again. It's very interesting. On the same drive from Belgrade, there is also one in Smederevo. And on the Romanian side there is a huge head carved in the mountain across the Dunabe river that you can see from the road that you took. I wish you a nice time exploring historic locations in Serbia and thank you for showing the interests in our history. I have only had great experiences with people from Egypt.
