This band was a true force of nature in their day!! I bought a ticket for $3 on a friend’s recommendation, headed over to Pensacola FL with him and never looked back! Doug Gray’s amazing voice, the Caldwell brothers, George on rhythm, Paul holding down the beat and the great Jerry Eubanks on sax and flute! So damn good!! Long live “chicken pickin’”!!
The amazing part of that guitar work is that Toy always used his thumb instead of a pick. His brother Tommy on the bass also played with his thumb. Both were self taught.
@@debrawardlaw4558 And to think that Toy taught himself on steel guitar on a lunch break one time. When they came back,he showed what he figured out and were amazed.. All were brilliant, saw them headline when POCO Head Over Heels tour opened up for them..Was awesome night but MTB were stellar.
Maybe my favorite band of all time. This is them at their peak!!! 73’-77’ This album and A New Life. The cream of their crop!!! Chuck Daniels on the fiddle is just stupid gravy!!!!! KillerKillerKiller!! #LongLiveMTB
Think of “24 Hours at a Time” as a conversation and the solos as voices. Each and every solo added to the conversation and moved it along to a conclusion. Another great reaction. Thank you!
Thanks for doing a reaction to this !! One of the best concerts I ever saw..The Outlaws, Charlie Daniels Band , Marshall Tucker Band...one of their encore songs, and yes, Charlie Daniels came out and played fiddle on this song...Brought the house down!! Thanks for the memories 🔥🔥
Aaaahhhhh! These fellows always cause me to sit back and close my eyes, and just go away for the duration of whatever song they happen to be playing in the moment.
Totally agree with your comment about MTB being ahead of Lynyrd Skynyrd.I'll always put The Allman Brothers Band first, just ahead of The Marshall Tucker Band, The Charlie Daniels Band third, Ozark Mountain Daredevils and then Lynyrd Skynyrd
I have to agree. Born and raised in St Louis, my dad was a southern rock/blues man. MTB, Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, OMD, CDB, Stevie Ray Vaughan, etc. To this day MTB is my favorite band and music of all time. I was lucky enough to see MTB and CDB in concert, even though I was only 13 years old. LOL. All of these bands loved coming here and had a large intense following and enjoyed much airplay on KSHE radio.
The Marshall Tucker Band was one of the absolutely best bands of their day…Toy Caldwell and his brother Tommy thumb picked…I was fortunate enough to have been on stage with them when this train called 24 Hours at a time got rollin’ and when she left the station there wasn’t a person in the arena still seated…I mean shit boy howdy was this ever an amazing tune listen to it and them daily.. story about their history if ya wanna hear it!
I was actually at the show (Milwaukee, WI - 11 July 1974) where the live sections of this album were recorded at. Charlie Daniels showing up as a “special surprise guest” was the worst kept secret in the city, but it was still cool that he showed up and played.
It’s a real ripsnorter, takes a song of this magnitude if you’re going to drive from Houston to the Arkansas line in a day before the sun goes down. Everybody takes a turn Toy Caldwell is a force of nature on the guitar.
I saw MTB 5 times in 3states between 74 and 77 and they always killed it. The best concert was when Wet Willie was the opening act followed by the Charlie Daniels Band and the Tucker boys closed. All 3 bands had members sit in on the others sets. The high lights were Toy Caldwell playing pedal steel guitar with the other bands and Charlie Daniels playing fiddle. And yeah Charlie sat in on 24 Hours At A Time. You can see this live version on a 1976(?) Volunteer Jam concert.
OMG this such a great, great tune. All the stars lined up for MTB on this live recording. I used this song as a soundtrack for any long highway trip I had to take back in the late 70s & early 80s.
I love the original Marshall Tucker lead singer that sang the song Can't You See. When he started out he was so young and vibrant, but before he died I think the drugs took a toll on him
One of my favorite live LP’s. I love Charlie Daniels’ fiddle & Toy Caldwell’s searing solos, and this has one of the greatest base lines ever laid down by Tommy! You’re the first I’ve seen react to this awesome jam.✌️❤️🎶
Great song. Great band. The studio version of that song is from my favorite MTB album, A New Life. You would enjoy some of the early Charlie Daniels Band music. Charlie is more famous for his fiddle playing, but he's a an even better guitarist. The whole band is super talented. #nicknlexrequest Check out one of these tunes by them if you ever get a chance. Saddle Tramp from the Saddle Tramp album and/or the song No Place to Go from the Fire On the Mountain album. Enjoyed your reaction as always 👋👍👍
recorded at the Riverside Theater in Milwaukee in 1973 I believe..these guys were so talented (especially Toy)..one of my favorite live songs ever..thanks for posting this
Well, shit! You DID play the long version,THANK YOU! I am so happy you got to hear this,I was on the stage about 20 feet from them 3 shows at B.B's.This was always their encore. That was Charlie( Funky Chunky) Daniel's on fiddle & if not mistaken also Dickie Betts (Allman Brothers) on the second guitar solo.Teally, thanks for the audio treat! You got juevos, keep playing the long ones that the other pussies won't. Comfortably Numb- Pulse comes to mind.
I love that you are doing some Marshall Tucker Band. PLEASE give a listen to Southern Woman from their A New Life album. It’s a basic Southern Rock song, but they go into a jazz break in the middle of the song. It’s really amazing.
Just an incredible band! I was so lucky to see them live in Tulsa in 1974! This live version was pretty much like the one I saw as Toy Caldwell was tearing it up again on this song, but without Charlie Daniels playing along!
@@bluesman3232 they played there in OKC on 10-18-75 at the civic center and ironically they played in Tulsa on 10-17-74! I had to check mine out too as I knew I saw them my second year in College which was ‘74! We had two car loads of guys who drove from Tahlequah, OK (college town) to OKC in 1975 to see the Yes concert!
one of my favs from the 70s saw them quite few times. with Allman Bros and Charlie Daniels. Awesome band. Try Everyday I Have the Blues from this same album...
Nick, you and Alexia should react to 'Hi Ren'. In just 2 months, it's gotten over 5 million views and tons of people are reacting to it, and there's no copyright claims either. I think you'll both love watching this 9+ minute video. It's really something, and Ren sometimes comments on reactions to his video, which is pretty cool of him.
True Trivia. Bassist and lead guitar are brothers taught to play by only using their thumbs. Tommy (bass) was the band leader and his brother Toy (guitar) wrote all the songs. Charlie Daniels played fiddle at this show and on this song. All members of the band on this are now dead except Doug Gray. Lead vox. Any tour for decades features none of these guys for the most part.
The best song you could have played Do yourself a solid & do the live version. Too long for this but when you hear it it will stay with you. Charlie Daniel's plays fiddle. Worked 3 shows of theirs at Billy Bobs, damn! HIPPIE REDNECK FORT WORTH, TEJAS 🏜🌟🤠
One of the greatest jams in rock and roll...period!
One of the most haunting sounds in music is when Charlie Daniels starts his fiddle solo. Toy Caldwell had the fastest thumb in the world...

$3!
The old man who used to own the Pensacola Interstate, Fair pulled the plug on them because they were too hard Rock.

One of my favorite songs of all time. The whole album is amazing.
Pretty sure Doug Gray is the only living participant of this masterpiece.

Damn...always loved this band. MTB just puts a smile on my face. Toy Caldwell possibly the most undermentioned great southern rock guitarist.
Ohh you finally got to my alltime favorite southern rock Jam Song!
I am glad you saw it since I recorded this over half a year ago!
If you like this one, check out "This Old Cowboy". One of the most beautiful songs ever written.

One of my favorite albums, since the 70's.
This band fit together like a Glove.
I have not heard this music for years so much to enjoy 😀
FINALLY, someone regogniizes this song in a reaction video. It has been one of my favorites for ever, and now I will subscribe. I love Toy Caldwell.
Aaaahhhhh! These fellows always cause me to sit back and close my eyes, and just go away for the duration of whatever song they happen to be playing in the moment.
I may be on the outside looking in, but I place these guys above Lynyrd Skynyrd in my rankings. Great band, great music, great musicians.

Sad part Toy had another brother Tim I think his name was that passed in an auto wreck a month or so before Tommy and he barely gets mentioned
Love the band and song! Saw them many times ❤
First time I saw them they opened for the Allman Brothers at the Nassau Coliseum on Long Island in 1973
Such a great band and what a sad loss.

Does anybody know who the original singer of the song Can't You See back in 1972 or 1973. I think it was Troy but I'm not sure
Toy Caldwell was the lead guitarist for MTB. He usually sang lead vocal on one song per album, and he did sing lead on Can't You See.
