Not really a Daytona homage - its a homage to a 70s Seiko Speedtimer.....
100%,but everyone keeps banging on how Seiko are copying the Daytona…. especially the Rolex fanboys/wankers
They do that because it looks nothing like the original speedtimer😅.
My wife has been looking at my UA-cam history and found that I've been looking at a lot of Rolex Daytona Vids (I'm currently in the process of purchasing one).
Long story short, She gave me this Seiko as an early Father's Day gift and says "wear it until you get that Daytona!"
She's not into watches but she's clearly done her research. Love of my Life, right there!
With that said, I love this watch! Not only because she gave it to me but I love the accuracy, the size is just perfect on my wrist and it being a solar watch is so convenient. It really is a great looking watch that gets a ton of compliments when on my wrist too.
I bought this at a very reasonable price two months ago and took it off its bracelet almost immediately. It is great with different straps (leather, canvas, two-piece Nato) in all kinds of colours. The thickness is quite cleverly concealed by the dome of the crystal and the downward sloping bezel. Thanks to its compactness it wears very nicely.
Could not agree more. Picked this up recently and the bracelet is atrocious. On straps, this watch is incredible and actually punches way above its price point.

I have it and i love it. It always put a smile on my face. The problem with the bracelet is that too thick and it should taper down from 20 - 16 mm. Than it would be perfect. Otherwise, it is very accurate and you can feel the quality and the material in it.
I found it in an AD today for $475. Much more acceptable with the mismatched bracelet. Happy to get it
Wearing mine today - the golden version. Still one of my favourites, even after 8 months..... Looks good on a black and gold nato.
Fully agree with your analysis. The date window and the bracelet are not as good as the rest of this watch. The automatic-like ticks are very clever. And it's a nice piece for those who have small wrist and/or prefer small diameter. Thx for the review.

Mine wears well and charges well since the power indicator has not moved at all for about 6 months. Absolute recommend 👍🏻

I have this- solid grab and go and I love the looks. Aside from the endlink integration I actually like this bracelet- kind of a cross between an oyster and president style and all solid. I believe strapcode and uncle seiko now have options as well. As with any Seiko, if you're not getting this for at least 30% off of retail at this point of its release then you don't know what you are doing. At that price point an even better value imo :)
Is this one going for 30% under MSRP anywhere yet though? I'm still waiting for that to happen.

The prices on these are already starting to trend down. I'll think about picking one up when it gets into the $300 range. At that price, the shortcomings would be much more palatable.

UPDATE 3 months later I just bought a new one for $450
It won't ever go to $300 Dan. No chance. I did get mine recently for the equivalent of around $535 dollars during a Seiko Turkey promotion but it's already gone back up to $675.If you want one, I would advise that if you see it less than $550, go for it. Seiko Prospex watches don't tend to drop in price very much unfortunately. Even now they're actually still charging premium prices in the reseller market. The cheapest one on Chrono 24 right now is $700, higher than retail.
I have the chance to pick one up at $400. I'm really considering it

The bracelet adjustment isn't the best but overall I'm satisfied...
Any idea why the second hand (bigger ones) stops at 12? The small second hand at 9 side seems to be working fine.... But not sure why the main second hand stops exactly at 12
Have mine on me too today ... Love it but wearing it with black leather strap with white stitching ... Bracelet clasp is a pain with not enough adjustments ...
Thoughts on the limited edition blue dial, the JDM models and that much cheaper light blue dial model? Also, why don't we have bracelet options when buying watches?

Still on my list/radar, but still too expensive for what it is. Hopefully if there is finally no more stock issues, maybe in a year we will start to see some sales.
WHY would they put a 24hr subregister instead of a 12h chrono totalizer? I've been on the hunt for a quartz chrono with 12h capabilities but it is extremely hard to come across them!
Bro the new Victorinox Fieldforce Classic offers a 12hr chrono totalizer. Check it out! Its reference number is 241899.
Even though I liked how the bracelet looks, the clasp’s 2 micro adjust holes and the lack of half links made it impossible to get a good fit. Luckily, Strapcode makes a jubilee and an oyster bracelet specifically for these watches. They both look and feel great.

Just got one at a great price, date seems way too small and deep so I can barely see it but tells time just fine
Very honest review. I got this watch recently in Istanbul, was discounted in a Seiko campaign, got it for $535 equivalent. It's back up to around $660 now. I love the watch, it's very attractive. I agree with some things you say and not with others. On the bracelet you're right, it's passable but not great. I wasn't disappointed as we all know Seiko bracelets. Definitely agree that they need to up their game in that area, but at least it has a sapphire crystal! To be honest I swapped it after just a day to a grey/black NATO, it looks great. I recommend it! I disagree on the date. My personal preference is to have a date at the least and day date preferably. With no date I wouldn't have bought it. Actually I have a JDM Orient 44mm quartz Chrono, same panda style with date in the same place. Of my small collection of about 20 watches, the only one without a date is a vintage Swiss one I inherited from my dad. I have a larger 8" wrist and I only would wish the Seiko to be 42-44mm as below 40mm looks a little bit small. For some reason the NATO gives it a bit more presence on the wrist, an optical illusion I think, lol, so I'm happy enough. Of course 39mm is definitely better for the vast majority of people so I csn understand why they went for it.

Thank you for being honest and NOT giving Seiko a pass for that bracelet monstrosity! Aftermarket bracelets often have better fit and finish than this factory bracelet.

Just bought mine ($455 USD at chronoaddict) and based on the universally bad reviews on the bracelet bought a Strapcode Oyster-esque bracelet for $89 which totally completes the watch IMHO.
I had it sold it within same week. Not worth it. The forzo seems way better

Actually I have seem this one I'm reality. The bracelet integration is not an issue. The size is small
I wasn't too interested until they released the 'crystal trophy' one, loved it so much that I bought one, and yes I would also love a Platona if I could afford one lol. But hey, at least this Seiko is more accurate, has a date, a flyback function, and can confirm from hands on experience of both watches... actually more legible

They should have put the hour timer at 3 o’clock position , it’s to small at 6 o’clock
I have the Pagani Design version and , although it needs batteries from time-to-time, the price difference leaves a lot of extra cash to buy them. And, it has a Seiko movement!
I agree on the pricing issue. The Speedtimer however has a solar powered movement. I pull out the winder on the Pagani when I’m not wearing it to save the battery.
Comparing Pagani Design to a brand that has been around for almost 150 years and has changed the course of horology in the 20th century is slightly ludicrous in my humble opinion.
Seiko is homaging it's own historical achievements.
Why not made with automatic movement? Really a pity.
One thing i dont like about seiko watches why dont they sign the crown unsigned crown just makes the watch look cheap you can buy watches for £40 or £50 and they have a signed crown

It's always bothered me the main minutes complication is smaller than the rest--especially the useless 24 hour subdial.
The watch looks good but after seeing it in person first thing I noticed is this cheap bracelet then I decided not to buy it.
it looks more like a zenith than a rolex, in all honesty.
I don't see the Daytona there. What I do see is the afterthought bracelet that you mentioned, the weird asymmetrical position of the date window that manage to be neither in line nor exactly between the indices, the stupid 24Hr register that is as useful on a chrono as a sundial and the unexplained thickness that you also mentioned. Seiko can and should do better.
I love the look of this watch on a black leather band with white stitching. The bracelet is not appealing to me.

I agree, that bracelet is unacceptable. I don't mind the date, but the lume is somewhat disappointing. I think that watch would be killer on a black gator strap.

great Review, Oleg. If Pagani Design decided to put extra $50 on their Chrono PD-1644 to better the quality, The Pagani would look better, work better than this Seiko which is over priced in my personal opinion. Also, as you mentioned, I do not like the bracelet nor the clasp. A horrible combination and it just does not match with the watch case...etc. And 39mm seems bit too small for Panda look Chrono. For a medium to large wrist, it would look much better with 42mm. Thanks for the review, Oleg.

To late... The Daytona owes far more to the speedtimer than the speedtimer owes to the Daytona.
If you think this is a Daytona homage you should study Seiko history a bit.
If a colour scheme makes it a Daytona homage, then the SKX is a Submariner homage and any red car a Ferrari ripoff.
Seiko has so much competition now, from San Martin and Paganni Design, it seems ludicrous that Seiko are charging 300 quid more for their stuff. Even a Seiko Flightmaster for 170 quid is much better than this.

I have something similar from Seiko I bought three years ago. It is not solar and the dial is black, the same 3 registers I think are silver color but I only paid 159.00 US dollars for it. Seiko is no longer a value brand anymore. A huge rip-off price for the model you reviewed.

Nice video, very thorough and comprehensive. In my opinion, there are a number of bad design choices that would detract from my odds of buying the watch. For every design cue that I like, there is a weak point that counters it and overall makes this a very average watch. Tough to have a final opinion until I see it in person though.
