I really liked this one... but not at the price they were asking with those negatives that you pointed out. I picked it up to review, thinking that I might keep it if it really clicked with me, but it didn't so I wound up selling it. I just grabbed one of the vintage Alpinist re-issues (the new blue one with pin stripes), and that one I'm really taken with. I liked the style and tone of this review!
The hype for the panda was nuts- I wanted a “nice” grab and go quartz for my collection and was ready to go for the blue and red color way. When I went to purchase they randomly for the first time in months had the panda in stock (517 at Sakura watches btw- don’t know if I’d value it at the retail or markup prices) so I felt here was my chance and I went for it. I wear it a lot. Really like it. I’m not a huge chrono guy, and this was my first real stab at white, so maybe there is a bit of novelty factor for me- but it’s well built, perfect size, and a looker. Just my 2 cents. Recent subscriber, really dig your reviews :)
I just purchased my Panda Seitona and I don't have the same gap at the endlinks. My wrist size is in between links and quick-adjustments; threw on a black sailcloth strap with white stitching and it solved my fitment issues along with enhancing the overall aesthetic!
From zuludiver by chance? I’m thinking of picking up this seitona and I know I wanna swap the bracelet for a strap. Would love to hear what you ended up with
Gunna say you’re crazy.. Watches are subjective though so it’s all good lol. I personally think the Seiko is clearly better looking than the one you compare it with here!
2 months of ownership here! It's a stunning watch, and it looks and wears great on a OMEGA black/grey "Bond" NATO strap. I love it, but the lume could have been improved. Rolex Daytona: Seiko Speedtimer "Seitona/Seikona": + Better design and finish + An excellent and affordable alternative to the Daytona - maybe the best? - Insanely expensive + Solar quartz that keeps better time + date function between 4 and 5 and a power reserve indicator.
Hey there! I believe the reason you don't want to wear it is because you have not been able to ajust it to your wrist. It is true that only 2 micro ajustments is just wrong. I would suggest you get a new strap or bracelet (maybe you have one lying around) and see if you can get it to fit your wrist.
Personally I think pandas look best on leather like the Dan henry. Especially considering the bracelet/case finish difference of the seiko, do you think that’s the driver for not wearing it more?
I think it does work and you are crazy. I mean maybe it is your taste that is different from mine bc I thought that Dan Henry you compared the seiko to was kinda fuggly and doesnt really compare. Anyways, nice video man!
Can't believe I haven't seen this review yet. Bought my first microphones because of your other channel, and now I'm watching your watch videos to learn about your experiences here. Keep it up.
Well I've been seriously looking and studying this watch. Mostly because I want a homage to the Daytona. I think probably the reason you don't actually love the watches because of the bracelet. I've seen other channels. Put a gray leather strap on there and it looks magnificent. Just make sure it's not a NATO.
Seiko made a mistake not making the 24 hour indication able to show a second time zone instead of the redundant use of this dial. If they did this they could triple the sales of this model. The bezel design matches the Grand Seiko Tentagraph and thus is its own unique Seiko thing.
Have had my SSC813 for a couple of weeks now and I love it. You're right about the bracelet. but I love it with my black leather with white stitching watch band instead of the metal bracelet. It would go well with any color of bracelet. Why you might not like it compared to the Dan Henry is that the actual dial size is much smaller on the Seiko. It was a concern of mine and still is, but it is still a great watch
@@clintonmetcalfe I bought mine at watchstrapscanada, www.watchstrapscanada.ca/product/vintage-style-smooth-leather-watch-strap-black/ and there are similar ones at strapsco.com. I was looking for a more formal look but any style or color would look great with this watch depending on the look you want.
Based on the video, I feel like the main problem that he had is the very impression on the watch itself...the man literally called it "Seitona". This should be a red flag for anyone because it shows that he always in the back of his mind keep comparing this watch with Rolex "Daytona" and thus have this "fake" sense to it. You even notice it when he do the comparison between 2 panda dial chronograph which were Dan Henry and the Seiko, he refer the Dan Henry as Dan Henry but Seiko as "Seitona"(very cringe) (6:32-6:36). In conclusion, don't compare your watches to Rolex because it will make you depressed and dont nickname it after Rolex watch either cause it sound cringe. Who want to wear a watch called "Seitona", it sounds cringe, cheap and fake which so injustice to the watch becauses it none of it.
Good point. I never viewed it as a cheap Daytona alternative myself which is maybe why I like it. First of all Seiko is a huge brand and not some podunky Chinese fashion brand making cheap knock-offs. I think people who dislike this watch are viewing it as a "fake" Daytona.
I think it would completely look different (and much better) with a leather rally strap. The endlinks of the bracelet they're just ugly and don't match the watch.
I also really like the watch and gets a lot of wrist time. I also could not get a good fit on the stock bracelet so picked up a Barton sailcloth in black and then found out Strapcode makes 2 bracelets just for this watch. I picked up a Super Jub II from StrapCode and was able to get a perfect fit on my 7.25 wrist. I also like it tapers from 20mm at the lug to 16mm at the clasp. In the review he noted the bracelet does not match the watch, but the Strapcode is so much better. Thanks for the review.
This watch has been totally overhyped. When it came out, I thought it was going to be THE chronograph I'd buy based on the dial alone. Then...The high price, lackluster lume, and afterthought of a bracelet killed the whole idea for me. Plus, you're a good chunk of the way there to something like a Hamilton Intramatic Chrono for the price this is asking.
i think it really might be due to the strap. i got mine yesterday and, personally, i like to feel it on my wrist. i'm a woman, I really treat it a bit like a heavy bracelet and actually like the look. but yes, there it is. i do feel even now already that in time i might end up finding it a bit heavy. i think i'll try to eventually exchange the current bracelet for a black leather strap.
I think I know whats wrong with the Speedtimer. Its proportions are off for being a 39mm watch with a thick outer bezel makes the dial look too small and disproportionate. The watches that succeed in this style Rolex Daytona and Zenith El Primero are 41 and 42mm making them much more porportionate. Also the case is elementary even when compared to something like the Dan Henry, the Dan Henry is more proportionate (thinner Bezel) and also has much more case details. Also for how thick is it the proportioning makes it feel very tubby on the wrist whereas the Dan Henry feels elegant. Also a weird shape choice for the chronograph hand as well as weird shape for the watch hands.
To me, and this I feel is keen, you have a watch with solar cells in it, it recharges every time you are outside and pretty quickly if I'm not mistaken. You have that and then you made the normal seconds hand tick once per second and then not all the seconds line up with the markers on the sub dial? Either make your overly priced quartz watch hit your markers or better yet, make it sweep like a mechanical watch so at least I have something pleasing to look at. just like the chronograph seconds hand is pleasing to look at. It annoys me that battery life is a non-issue and they keep making it tick once a second to conserve on battery life as if you'd otherwise have to replace the battery every year or something. Why?! At this point I'd gladly take the Bulova lunar pilot over this watch, when it comes to a chronograph it should mimic a mechanical watch in terms of sweeping, that kind of matters a lot on a analog dial face, otherwise at least the casio with a digital face does the same thing but cheaper and better at telling exact times.
I haven’t bought one yet but I think the reason is because it has a Daytona clone feel. It’s not distinctly a Seiko that is proud of being a Seiko. It had the Chinese Daytona knock off feeling. I probably will still get one but it will be the yellow version.
Don't worry about comparing it to a Daytona. There are tonnes of Panda dials out there. Rolex doesn't have IP over the colours black and white. Just see if you like it based on its own merits.
It's not a problem of the strap. It's just too thick. Seikos are very nice flat from above, but way too thick and heavy on the wrist. Easy to the eye, not nice to wear.
Really weird review. "It's a great watch but I don't like it, and I can't tell you why." What a waste of time watching this. Just sell it to someone that will wear it and appreciate it and doesn't wear a weird hat and old lady glasses in their reviews.
Tachymeter......Time / Speed / Distance.........If you have two of those measurements, you can determine the Third......Simples !!!!.........Bracelet is excellent quality.....You can buy a Three Hole Micro Adjustment Clasp made specifically for this piece from Uncle Seiko to rectify Clasp adjustment issue......Strapcode now produce their own Bracelets for this piece........Rolex should be calling their Daytona the "Deikona"....As Seiko beat them to the punch in producing the worlds first Mechanical Chronograph !.
Interesting hearing you review the SSC813 a couple of years ago - I bought the SSC911 - the ‘go large’ version a week ago. I think Seiko understood some of the issues you identified and ‘ironed them out’ with the 911. They didn’t with the date window - it’s now more difficult to see than on your 813! The area of the case adjacent to the bracelet are now in matching brushed steel. The luminesence now extends to each hour marker etc. I’m pleased with my purchase. I haven’t looked as yet to see if you subsequently reviewed the 911 - will have a look now.
It’s a very solid timepiece but at $200-$250, Amazon is asking closer to $500. The negative intangible: hard to enjoy wearing a knockoff; makes you feel like a fake.
The Seiko lacks the charisma, its too clearly a boardroom watch that was made by ticking off boxes and optimising profits. Even if tbe watch turned out great, it makes it lack the soul and charisma we are drawn to.
The dan henry look better in a flash because of cleaner and bigger white color dial compare to pale seiko in this video, also the leather strap match better. I saw other change the seiko with black leather strap and it is looks much better. Overall I think Seiko looks more premium, handsome while dan henry having a fashion watch feel.

2:21 I was changing the date of the day and when I put the crown back in and pushed it, it kept spinning and spinning I thought the watch had some problem so it is like that? Still withstand 100 meters underwater right?
I’ve seen this at amazing prices used, but I can’t seem to pull the trigger. Something about it keeps me from buying it. My guess is it’s at a weird price point where you are not appreciating it as a budget watch like the Dan Henry, but hoping it stands in its own two ‘lugs’. Honestly, wouldn’t we just rather get an Omega Speedmaster and instead of this placeholder Seitona?

i need the 24hour indi can be adjust to another time..i use GMT time mostly as second time..just sad about that
I’m sure you’ve thought of an aftermarket bracelet. I find the Dan Henry not as legible as the Seiko Seitona.
$675 for a seiko quartz is insane. I'd rather go with a Hamilton Intra-matic for a little bit more.
@jmua and that's exactly what I did..The hammy is stunning
Yes the price is enough to make you look elsewhere, and there are a lot of other fish in the sea.
this is what I was gonna get before the Orient but I just couldn't find it anywhere.
Thanks for sharing!!!
It is on my shopping for when I can pick it up at a Black Friday sale price, and then it will go straight onto a brown leather ‘rally’ style strap.

Beautifull watch love wearing it. Only big let down for me is the lume. Date could be bigger but i'm glad it has a date.
The white panda seitona is quite vanilla. I think the panda gold version has more personality as it looks more rustic, old school retro

Exactly
I prefer the seitona. It’s easier to say than the danhentona.😬
The Seiko lacks the charisma, its too clearly a boardroom watch that was made by ticking off boxes and optimising profits. Even if tbe watch turned out great, it makes it lack the soul and charisma we are drawn to.

This watch I’ll be one of the next Seiko holy grails, unavailable in every store (panda version)

Anyone who thinks a Seiko chronograph is somehow a copy of any other chronograph is either joking or a fool.
I can't tell you the answer because I prefer the Seitona to the Dan Henry. Lol!
I've been a Seiko-phile for the better part of a decade. In my experience all of the bracelets are garbage. Collar and pin? really? Even in their high-end watches. The SSC813 looks amazing. Love the proportions and dial design.
I think the bracelet is the culprit, maybe it doesn’t work for you for this reason, changing for a strap sometimes makes all the difference

The dial at 6 o'clock is
smaller than the other two.
On other models, they
make that dial disappear.
Replace the band! That is the problem...
The black solar dials, where you can actually see, the "cord" is a total deal breaker for me. Looks so bad. I would much rather having it having deep black non solar, and a battery instead.
Maybe too heavy on the wrist?
Have you tried to swap the bracelet with a leather strap? That might be the problem
The Dan Henry..😂😂😂
Swap the bracelet for a better bracelet or a strap
Great review! The ending did it for me haha You have a awesome down to earth personality 😄 new subscriber 😎
Well as a watch reviewer, I think you should know the basic on how to use the tachymeter.. still a good video 🍻
The thickness prevents me from wearing the watch more often.
Its the bracelet dude. Put it on a black leather rally strap, it will look amazing.
I just bought one online. it looks tiny on me. sending it back.
It's the wristband. I'm not feeling it either.
The Dan Henry is just a more beautiful, subtle, understated design. The Dan Henry is like a piece of art.
I think you don’t get used to heavy watch, try different strip, or you can sell it to make some money.
Still in the watch box? Perhaps using a different strap?
Try different straps... you're welcome ;)
I think you need a superbike to appreciate the watch!😅
I’m getting this watch soon 😀
I think this would be for me if it had a solar powered mecaquartz movement.
That would be a nice but very tall movement...
@@Bob.martens I hadn't considered how thick such a movement would be, but I think Seiko could pull it off if they wanted to.

Yeah that’s normal for a non-screw down crown
Do ya still have it? I just bought one, it should be here in a couple days
Change the bracelet.

its the bracelet finishing for me!!
Why? I think you should look at the history of chronographs and who made them.
