I love how on the spectrum from photo influencer to working professional Nick f-ing delivered printable work with a beautiful consistent Color palette in every format equally working way into the night. Personally favourite probably the 6x9 landscape with the dust lit up by the light in the air 19:54
Late watching this, but relieved by your reluctance to take pictures of picturesque things. I suffer from the same emotion. Lived for two years in Switzerland, took drives every weekend. Found much of it beautiful but too cute. Took three pictures of the country in those two years.
Still, definitively, after so many years, my favourite “UA-cam” photographer. Genuinely sad that this series is over; the videos have been wonderful to watch. Like many of yours I will come back to them again and again. I only hope that one day you might secure the funding to do a similar long trip/long form series somewhere…
Firstly, I would like to thank you for the fine work you have done in capturing the images you have of my home country and in particular Andalucia. I have watched your series, together with those of Thomas Heaton and Jason (Grainyday) during your assignment here and felt a little sad that the weather was not its usual sunny days, but you must have brought the much needed rain with you as we are still under water restrictions and for this I was glad. I am now retired and have a freezer full of sheet and roll film ( Velvia and Ektarchrome) and as you may have felt in some moments that this land spoils one for the range of choices, I am now taking my time to record it on film. I live 15 minutes away from Malaga and if you ever venture back here, look me up and I will show you places west of Malaga, all the way down to the Atlantic which will have the some impact that El Torcal, Antequera and Tabernas had on you, they are my back yard as such. I have just seen this years Tourism ad which has a GOT theme to it, even presented by one of its main actors. I look forward to seeing the publication with all your works when it come out. All the best.
That last picture floored me! The final image you came up with is not what I expected when you started setting up for the shot. The colors were sublime. After watching several of your YT videos I'm becoming a bigger fan of large format photography. Very deliberate in your approach and quite different than spray and pray with most digital videos.
The best of the Spain photography group.! Great details about area. Use of your Film formats formidable! No fuss, no problems, way of a pro! Certain photographers were vey vocal! Problemo! I grew up in South Africa! When the flights from UK arrived, the whining continued, even after engines were silent! I hope to see more of your photos! Bravo.
9:00 It's amazing how many people don't grasp basic perspective and what lenses actually do. Even the term compression is a misnomer, since nothing is being compressed, it's just groups of subjects from further away, are more in proportion from the human perspective, the long lens is just allowing us to crop into a part of it with greater detail.
A very recognisable characteristic of the Andalusian dialect is that many people will pronounce the Z and C (TH in English) sounds as S, so AndaluSia is in fact a very "Andaluz" way of saying it. We're also known for not pronouncing the S at the end of words but instead doing a soft H. So Andaluces turns into something like Andaluseh. Another cracking video btw, making me miss home.
Nick, I love the series and these photos! The one at about 15:30 of that crazy set of little buildings with the snowflake and what looks like the entrance to something. It so begs for an explanation of what it was! Especially the little white building at the left that looks like an outhouse with no door and a metal chair in it. One of my favorites just for the curiosity and bizarreness of it all.Fantastic photos throughout!
Brilliant series Nick. Loved the sunset pano of the yellow house and snowflake. Class Carver! I'm going to Malaga in December with the wife. Just as well she likes the shops as I will be indulging in the lovely winter light. Thanks again Nick.
Glad you enjoyed your time around here. I think the yellow house pano and the desert pictures are the best of the trip (with the permission of the correos building). No local is going to call you out on your ‘th’ sound pronunciation. You’d have nailed it if in 11:00 you’d said ‘el thielo’… anyway, thanks for your content!
Congratulations, Nick. Thank you for sharing your journey around Andalucía. Our old post office building in Málaga getting some love from you was one of the many highlights.
The best channel on UA-cam!!! I learn so much. When your metering can you narrate your process a little. Where you're aiming and the different readings you're getting.
Your demeanor was occasionally quite the spectacle (you seemed about as thrilled as a cat at a dog show), but you managed to capture a handful of remarkable shots. Here's to hoping you've returned to your happy place with your sweetheart and your trusty pup - that's where the real magic happens! Best to you, Nick!
Really enjoyed this series... Am I the only one that loved those first two tri-x shots? those, the little yellow building and that final pano... way to go Mr Carver!!
Another great video Nick! I hope things work out for you and Caren from Pacific Studios. I'm a big fan of your work! John from Off the Walls Studio Gallery
Your Videos are so entertaining, the best in UA-cam for sure! Thank you very much for sharing your skills with us! 28:34 to me the Rock looks like a Ents from lord of the rings
Well Nick, this was a wonderful series of videos from a gorgeous location. Your works spot on as always, and these videos alone act as a very enticing travel advertisement for Andalusia. But the thing that surprised and pleased me the most, was the introduction to my newest favorite musician, Slings! Shades of REM! Thanks brother!
I really enjoyed the content in this trifecta series. I hope that you did well in the competition as well. James Popsys did a series when he was in the competition in 2022. Glad you brought your hat along as well. I associate that with your brand better than the baseball caps.
Introspective, contemplative, timeless...there are other words I'd add if given time. I don't know what the draw is, but it's there, and you have it. Your photos are something akin to wine...getting better with age...images of the past, a bygone era. What's puzzling to me is not so much what you're drawn to this (we haven't met, and I'm not a psychoanalyst), but the puzzle is how a tourism board figures these images add to a narrative that says "come visit...". They are lucky regardless to have your images in the body of work produced by all the photographers they invited. Again I feel good that SoCal was represented (by you)!
Amazing locations and photography as usual ! Out of interest, Lawrence of Arabia was also shot in the Merthyr Mawr sand dunes in South Wales, UK, near me.
Ive been to a few of those places… south Spain, Gibraltar, all that ancient culture layered and lived in places… and I had the same problem of “I dont want to photograph the traditional beauty” And most places there had that super classic beauty, so I just walked around looking for the few scruffy and offbeat places, but the area is just nice, its hard to find places that are not. Its a real challenge to not shoot “touristy” shots there. In that sense it is a easy and hard area for photography. Its easy to shoot good pictures, its hard to shoot pictures that are good AND stand out. You of course made quite a few standout shots, kudos.
You got some bangers there. My favourite were the yellow building with the little white building and the snow flake, the black museum, and the last one.
Thank you for taking us along Nick!! Wow...what an adventure!!! Just curious....what all were ya'll drinking that night, you and the driver? Did you learn of any new Spanish Adult Beverages you'll be making at home now? Maybe on a new "with a glass" episode?
Hey Nick, I would love it if you could make a video on filters for 4x5 … I’m looking into investing in a system and not quite sure what the best is to suit multiple lenses rather than buying a filter set for each lens! Thanks mate! Love your work and content !
Just the best as always. The photos were fantastic. The videos were amazingly shot too and the comedic narration was subtle but brilliant. Hat's off to you Sir!!
Nick, incredible pictures with all the cameras and film used…perhaps a few becoming your best compositions to date in my opinion! Incredible the similarities with S. California as indicated. The word “ cielo” ( heaven) describes very well the geography and written as seen on a few building walls locally! Hope you deepen your Spanish specially their deeply pronounced letters “s” and “z”. Also as stated earlier, outstanding cinematography! Well done my friend 👏👏… Be safe, Cheers..
Gracias Nick.
Early in the series you made the comment about your hat being too big... I was all for the fedora making a reappearance. HOWEVER... After watching the entire series, whatever that thing you were wearing was a good choice! 😉
Hello Nick. Your photography and videos are not only awesome but creatively very entertaining. Love your pictures. Also, my wife loves your hat. If you don't mind, what kind is it? I might just surprise her and get one like it. Thank you very much. I shoot FF and Canon.
Absolute great series! I hope youg get a lot of opportunities to visit more European landscape to shoot with your film cameras, all those trips documented for us to watch and enjoy!
So cool sceneries tour and point of views, those photos compressing houses and the yellow one and the desert amazing photos make me envious to go visit and take some photos in Andalucia👌🏻
I loved all your videos from Andalusia. The story goes that one Spanish king had a lisp and pronounced s as th. So, the court, of course, followed suite. This has then become standard in Castilian Spanish. Whether that is true or not, it makes a nice story. Sort of like your story about the dilapidated building photos you took. I think a story makes things more interesting. Loved the shots of the hills at the end of your video.
Again, great video! I love all the pictures, but the Texas Hollywood one has something special for me. Thank you for creating these amazing videos during your trip to Andalucía.
Nice images. Looks like a great opportunity that you knocked out of the park. The image of the laundry and the antennas reminds me of a recent trip to Egypt, same thing laundry, antennas, and satellite dishes sharing the same deck. Also, I did not hear "diptych"...the first time.
Great series of videos, Nick! I really enjoyed them. Congrats on all the wonderful photos too! Oh, by the way, I was really surprised you didn't notice the "old man in the mountain" with the big hair at around 28:27.
The pano taken at the end of the day with the abandoned building and the lights on the tree and on the house is outstanding.
Hats off as well to the videographer doing all the shots for Nick, kudos!
is a videographer better than a cameraman? @@michaelmoss2901
He did great!

"Honey wake up....he's posted!"
+1

Ooh, “look down the lens to see if you can see the corners of the ground glass”
thanks Nick, I needed that.
Yes, a trick I never knew existed. Thanks!!!

Nick, this video was so outstanding on all levels. Top photography, commentary, music and cinematography. Your photography channel rules UA-cam.
This is superb YT content. The panoramic shots are wonderful. Entertaining voice over too. Thanks for this video and the great shots.
the detail in the texas leica is insane, those pictures of the cats made me smile
This series has been awesome. I'm sad it's ending but delighted you had the chance.
I already liked it before the video starts
That last picture floored me! The final image you came up with is not what I expected when you started setting up for the shot. The colors were sublime. After watching several of your YT videos I'm becoming a bigger fan of large format photography. Very deliberate in your approach and quite different than spray and pray with most digital videos.
It‘s amazing how digital video cameras are more real then life, sharper, higher res and more saturated.
Bravo.
Your ability to find the beauty in what most might look at as ugly and non relevant is rare and appreciated. Nicely done.👏
Beautiful work of a real photograper.

10:00 "That's so fkng pretty!" I tell at my phone, hoping that somehow you'll hear it and allow yourself to just take beautiful photos lol
Dude!
10/10 would watch a travel series of you going around the world to find the best shot.

I thought the gorgeous pano at 10:10 would be my favourite but the one at 21:04 - mmmm lovely!
Brilliant series Nick. Loved the sunset pano of the yellow house and snowflake. Class Carver! I'm going to Malaga in December with the wife. Just as well she likes the shops as I will be indulging in the lovely winter light. Thanks again Nick.

Got to love these Spanish cats!
5:22 Nick goes all the way to Spain. Takes expensive pictures of cats. 😆
Excuse me, Edward Weston took equally embarrassing cat pictures too!
The best channel on UA-cam!!! I learn so much. When your metering can you narrate your process a little. Where you're aiming and the different readings you're getting.
Definitely a good trip. Many of the images do resemble the American West.
Beautiful shots and the voiceover is very entertaining ;).
Thanks Nick for these three videos about my homeland, i’m glad you’ve enjoyed the views, the food and our cats!!!
I was waiting to hear the most famous spaghetti western line ever while waiting for the light. "Go ahead, make my day."
Love the Image at 16:11 and the one at 19:31❤
18:45 Brooooooo. I think this is my favourite ever photo of yours! Please print it so I can buy it.
Your demeanor was occasionally quite the spectacle (you seemed about as thrilled as a cat at a dog show), but you managed to capture a handful of remarkable shots. 14:06 Oh man. Stunning. This one made me audibly curse with awe.
11:00 The pano is great. I didn’t think much of it for the first few seconds, but after staring at it for 30 seconds, I get it. Superb.
Perfect! Cool! Simple ! Make a zine about your trip in andalusia, ! Your post enjoys my sunday afternoon !
I really enjoyed the content in this trifecta series. I hope that you did well in the competition as well. James Popsys did a series when he was in the competition in 2022. Glad you brought your hat along as well. I associate that with your brand better than the baseball caps.
Thank you so much for this series, Nick. Always look forward to your content. Have a beer on me!

The pano at 10:00 does look like heaven. First thing I thought about it as well.
Amazing locations and photography as usual ! Out of interest, Lawrence of Arabia was also shot in the Merthyr Mawr sand dunes in South Wales, UK, near me.
The resemblance to California is amazing.
Outstanding piece of work Nick! 👌👏
There's no such thing as too much urban/rural decay. And now I want to visit this part of Spain too.
Ive been to a few of those places… south Spain, Gibraltar, all that ancient culture layered and lived in places… and I had the same problem of “I dont want to photograph the traditional beauty”
And most places there had that super classic beauty, so I just walked around looking for the few scruffy and offbeat places, but the area is just nice, its hard to find places that are not. Very cool having a separate human to do the videography.
Thank you for taking us along Nick!!
Wow...what an adventure!!!
Just curious....what all were ya'll drinking that night, you and the driver? Did you learn of any new Spanish Adult Beverages you'll be making at home now?
Maybe on a new "with a glass" episode?
15:25 The Carver we know and like… The others are wonderful too of course…
I enjoy your super chill videos.❤
Great video. You can see why the spaghetti westerns where shot in areas like this. Stunning landscapes. And you still find the decay :) Superb.
Amazing, I haven't seen parts 1 and 2 yet!
All I can say is Texas Hollywood. Hermosa!
You gotta be one of my favorites when it comes to taking photos, beautiful work as always!
I’d love a book on the trip with some stills from the video and background information for context to some of your great shots… that would be a thing!
This is the video I was looking forward to. You made me miss my hometown in the mountains of Almería.
When you were about to take a shot , and then said, No! and walked off ,I laughed
I've done that a ton
Wow, the pano 21 minutes in is a beauty… glad to see you’ve got a crew now
Hey Nick, I would love it if you could make a video on filters for 4x5 … I’m looking into investing in a system and not quite sure what the best is to suit multiple lenses rather than buying a filter set for each lens! Thanks mate! Love your work and content !
Awesome series. I want to go back.
Western Leone , Fort Bravo , Oasys Mini Hollywood 👍
awesome series buddy! seemed like a sucessfull trip
Just the best as always. The photos were fantastic. The videos were amazingly shot too and the comedic narration was subtle but brilliant. Hat's off to you Sir!!
'I was mostly just enjoying the peace and quiet of using my view camera amongst the rubble of other people's good time memories.'

Great series of videos and some beautiful shots. Nice one Nick 👌
Brilliant video Nick. I love Clint Eastwood too. He is The Man, you are a close second. ❤
15:10 that's the shot I've been waiting for! F-ing love it!
Hello Nick. Your photography and videos are not only awesome but creatively very entertaining. Love your pictures. Also, my wife loves your hat. If you don't mind, what kind is it? I might just surprise her and get one like it. Thank you very much. I shoot FF and Canon.

Boy, I’m sorry you are done with this assignment! The videos have been great.
Thanks for the comment on compression, it's amazing how many pros don't get such simple things :)
But if you were to take the same pic on a wide lens at the same distance, and then crop it in, wouldn’t it look different? I think it would.
Beautiful work Nick! Love that Texas Hollywood sign!
What a brilliant series! Loved it all. Thanks Nick.
Great video Nick!!!
Great series of videos, Nick! I really enjoyed them. Congrats on all the wonderful photos too!
Oh, by the way, I was really surprised you didn't notice the "old man in the mountain" with the big hair at around 28:27.
Great series of images!
Absolutely loving this series. And yes, your final shot confirms, you're a bad-ass.
Fantastic work, thank you Nick for bringing us with you on that trip 🙏
Great shots Nike, Almería is famous because many westerns was filmed at its deserts. At Algarrobico beach you have the greates decay of spain.
Compressed buildings image is beautiful.
