Super enjoyable as always Nick! I love that scene with the recliner! Such a great find, and it's great to see how you captured it as the light was changing. I'm also super jealous that you were able to get away to the desert before things started to heat up.
That shot at 19:11 is pure ART!! The way that shadow under the window bank makes an arrow that points directly at the recliner. The dusk shot is great too, but for some reason that first one did it for me. Great video!
You’re the Bob Ross of UA-cam photography channels. So chilled and easy to listen to. I mean that as a compliment! 😂 Fascinating seeing the USA’s lesser-known spots as well. Best wishes from the UK. 😉👍🏼
Nick Carver Show us how you shake that polaroid!! (Btw when you want to come to italy just tell me, there are some cool bushes overe here). You are the best nick!!
22 minutes of pure high class entertainment. Thank you Nick. I enjoy your videos so much and agree with you these old buildings will eventually just fade away to nothing ...
You don't get nearly enough credit for your filming and editing skills. You always get a lot of great coverage, your transitions are creative, your music choices always for nicely, and your style is consistent and high quality. I know the behind the camera stuff is tedious but the result is super polished. So, cheers to that my friend.
This is pretty much, why I built a bed in my van. I have this grandiose idea of finding something that needs morning or evening light and I can sleep Comfortably before and/or after shooting it. Great video. Subbed
Came to this video following your recent 'chat' with Thomas Heaton, who lives near to me in North East England. I really enjoyed your trip to the Mojave desert - brought back some great memories of Southern CA. Looking forward to watching more of your stuff Nick.
By far my favorite photographer on UA-cam. I may not be shooting much film any longer (just don't have the time needed), but I love your subject matter even though I'm on the other side of the Country from you.
I absolutely love it when you do these types of videos Nick. Huge fan of abandoned spaces and you always seem to find such interesting buildings. The final shots with the chair inside the building are superb, the telegraph poles framed within the windows one by one are a great touch.
Yeah, I thought so too. The railroad, the birds, the old chair telling an implicit story. And the almost horizontal light. It's amazing., Very Edward Hopper-esque.
If your intuition tells you the conditions are not right it's ok to pack up and return another day, creativity shouldn't be a battle. I really liked the abstract nature of the b&w boulder shots, a masterclass in composition.
A new video from Nick can make a good day even better! Only drawback is that it makes me soooo impatient to come back to the US and shoot a truckload of film! Keep up with the great work man!
As someone from Arizona, I'll never get tired of the abandoned buildings shot in the desert. You could literally make a video about photographing dog turds and I'd still watch the heck out of it. Wonderful shots as always!
I can't help feeling there is a sadness about many of these old building. As has already been said, there is an Edward Hopper feel to them. "The Night Hawks" particularly springs to mind. Thanks for taking us along.
We appreciate your honesty and candour man. You're humble and funny and your knowledge photographique is second to none. Would love to see your sub count quadruple in the coming months. Thanks for the ride :)
It’s truly enjoyable to listen to a person’s process and their self-critique. I had a different point of view on which version of the recliner photo worked best. It’s fun to see all the iterations and hear which the photographer thinks best matches their vision and style. Always fun Nick - thanks!
I find whats more impressive than the Photography itself (and no NICK, you're not a hack) is the effort and thoughtfulness you put into the video. Most will not even consider all you do to get the shots you edit into this. Me personally, I was on Auto trader looking for a Toyota 4x4 while listening early on. :) Thanks for sharing.. And Yes, Square is another way of thinking, Ive recently broke out my dusty Hassey 503cxi because I miss that format. My heart wants me to get a Revel, my mind tells me hold on there buck.
I really love the second composition of the building with the chair in it. The frame is subdivided into four different rectangles that are each like their own photograph. Though it is "cluttered" in a sense it's also "organized" (if that makes sense) in a way that is very complex yet very pleasing.
I agree, that second frame of the recliner series has a lot going for it as well. I, too, appreciate how it’s divided into multiple images within itself. 👍🏻
You’re a great inspiration for slowing down your photography and trying out bigger formats! Everyone goes through those moments of doubt but great to see that you picked yourself up and stil got amazing shots!
Love the way you talk through your photos warts and all. What works and what doesn't work so well. I'm trying to improve my photography and channels like this where I can be a fly on the wall with a talented photographer are really helpful. Thank you!
Ok, well that got a subscription. Thank you for your creativity and your hard work Nick. We all hear the voices from time to time. I've been shooting since that 220 was new and they always come back from time to time.
"Appreciate your coming along with me". That line at the end caught what was becoming clear to me as I watched- this is an exceptional channel in that I really feel like I have come along with you, that I am there with you, that we are standing side-by-side. It only took me about 500 episode3s to have this smack me in the head! :) Keep up the good work....
Well, well... hello again my SoCal Brother. Not sure how I let this vid slip through my impeccable filtering process when it comes to my email box, but I got to thinking today; "I haven't seen any videos from Nick Caver lately". So I turned on the internet machine, pulled up your channel and low and behold... a gift. This looked like a fun trip. Maybe a little frustrating, but mostly fun. This series of old abandoned buildings may seem a little repetitive, but when you drive past one of them in the future and it's gone, you're going to be incredibly glad you took the time. I think the overall aesthetic is pleasing to the eye and very tasty to my northern boreal forest sensibilities. Thanks for yet another instalment and if you think that chair looks kinda creepy, well... I think there might be a body buried in the concrete right in front of it. Have a great weekend!
"I don't often use 90mm lens ... because I'm not that attracted to the wide angle look anymore" :) A lot of us cropped sensor shooters would scratch our forehead at this statement ))))))))))))) Great photos Nick! Can't wait to see more of your work.
Just saw you put your 6x6 mask under the RZ focus screen. I just learned last week that the masks can actually be slid onto the TOP of the focusing screen, using the two small black pieces on the left and the larger one on the right. Take out your focusing screen, and slide the mask top to bottom. Fits just right and allows you to still see your LEDs at the bottom. Doesn't really make a difference focus-wise, but I find it a better, tighter fit for my masks. Thanks for the vid, as usual. I just picked up a C220 myself last night and got so excited by your excellent shots. Keep 'em coming!
Thanks for the kind words! With my mask, I can see the LEDs. This one fits in perfectly and goes in easy. So long as it’s cut right, it’s a tight fit and takes all of 2 seconds to install.
I missed this. I lockdown. How did I miss this?? It would have really cheered me up then. I mean, it cheered me up now, but then would have been even better! Love your videos all to pieces.
Video packed of great photos from the beginning to the end, from the squared black and white images to the 6x17 in color and all what's in between :-) The two photos side by side at 7:18... man, those lines work great, and the small clouds in the photo at the right are fitting so well in the composition! This two photos should go always side by side! :-) The 6x17 at 20:50 with the golden light and the birds is also one of mavourite. Well... finally they're all so good that I have no favourites anymore :-)
Glad to see that you brought out the C220 for a walk. I have several of the C3 series, C3, C33, C330, etc. Mine are begging me to get outside to have a look around. Time for some Tri X and inspiration. Thanks for the B&W shots taken in the rock pile.
i rememeber seeing this video 2 years go and the composition of the chair is still an all time favorite of mine. there's some things that i like to do different and i'm more liberal with like color but the one thing your photography instilled on me is "never influence the composition" i love making a story of my compositions and the photo of the chair is what i mentally picture when i take a photo
The amount of effort you put into the little details both in filmmaking and your images makes my head spin when I watch carefully. I love these so incredibly much. Please keep making more.
Great video. I really like the first wide angle version of the interior shot with the lounger. There is so much to that photo. The chair, the shadow areas and then almost looking like a strip of film frames looking through the window. I like the placement of the telegraph poles. It's a picture with a lot of individual stories in it.
I love the way the pairs of 6x6 complement the panoramas and look forward to seeing you potentially explore that juxtaposition more. Beautiful work as always.
You've done some lovely work photographing these old buildings a time gone past there's something to be said about vintage cameras and the timeless beauty they give thank you for sharing some beautiful work and patience
Hey, I went out South Utah, Northern Arizona the exact same time because of that spell of weather! Good to know we were on the road at the same time! Choice video!
Man, I am only 4 minutes in and must say, your production value is outstanding! I can only imagine how much work goes into making this good of a video by yourself. Truly inspirational.
Love your work Nick, your videos are inspirational, informative, entertaining and not filled with fluff. Every new upload is a treat. UA-cam needs more of this content!
I've just bought a c220 and have run one roll through it so far and I love it! It's like a tank or a well made clock, just well built and a pure machine! I've only just gone back to film recently and loving the experience. Just discovered your channel and love the content, I'm looking forward to watching more of your videos! Hope you and family are all well, keep up the good work!
UA-cam needs a "superlike"! I follow and enjoy quite some youtube photographers, usually I watch their videos when the timing and mood (and free time) is best for it. For you though, I am always startled when I see you uploaded a video and just cannot wait to see it! Please NEVER stop photographing old houses! I am sooooooooo jealous of what great scenes you do have in your country / area. I cannot see enough of that, especially with your skill putting those possibilities into magic for my eyes. The point of them fading and disappearing forever really gives those images a bigger sense. Cheers and hats off for your great videos, and again: please dont hesitate to film yourself photographing old buildings!! ;-)
Damn - that C220! It’s got to be my favourite camera. Having said that, that 6x17 format, man, it does for me e v e r y time. Another glorious video full of glorious imagery.
The most underrated youtube channel
Just thinking about that...
It's just a shame it did not get to 100k subscribers yet...
Great quality videos, photographs, didactics, humor...
Doing my part to share!
Ps.: And looking for a 17x6 camera hidden from my wife... U_U
Yeah man, what a shame :(
I agree, regardless of the fact that he's a fantastic photographer. These videos are thoroughly entertaining.
AND the most underrated voice over voice. It is smooooth as butter.
@@jespersichlau4343 yeah man, but also just the production values, choice of b-roll and accompanying music. It's just all good
“I think I got one or two good shots.” The whole roll is full of bangers Nick!
Haha! Love it. Thank you.
Big facts
Exactly!
tyvek05 you must be real fun at parties. Ever heard of hyperbole? It’s just a fun statement my friend.
tyvek05 are you even professional? Go somewhere with that comment. This community don’t need negative people like you.
A Nick Carver day is a good day! Play!
I always just get buzzed after watching these vids . They are an honest portrayal of a guy doing what he loves and doing it well .
Thank you very much
The day just got a whole lot better 👍🏼
Super enjoyable as always Nick! I love that scene with the recliner! Such a great find, and it's great to see how you captured it as the light was changing. I'm also super jealous that you were able to get away to the desert before things started to heat up.
Thank you, sir! I somehow manage to miss the perfect spring desert weather every year, so I lucked out with these few days.
That shot at 19:11 is pure ART!! The way that shadow under the window bank makes an arrow that points directly at the recliner. The dusk shot is great too, but for some reason that first one did it for me. Great video!
Yes, thats the best shot, pure magic
Agreed, that was the best of them
I would buy that one too!
Agree, that is the best! :)
I agree. It's a daytime shot, but it reminded me of some of Hopper's lonely interiors. The dusk shot is lovely, but not as dramatic.
Man, that desert living room is amazing.
I wish Nick Carver did more videos. His dialogue is precise and well articulated. Professional standout
You’re the Bob Ross of UA-cam photography channels. So chilled and easy to listen to. I mean that as a compliment! 😂 Fascinating seeing the USA’s lesser-known spots as well. Best wishes from the UK. 😉👍🏼
I'm just going to photograph some happy little bushes here. They'll be our little secret.
Nick Carver Show us how you shake that polaroid!! (Btw when you want to come to italy just tell me, there are some cool bushes overe here). You are the best nick!!
@Nick Carver: that got dark real quickly... 😂
That’s exactly what I was thinking. The Bob Ross of photography.
"I mean that as a compliment!" You don't say. 🤦🏼♂
22 minutes of pure high class entertainment. Thank you Nick. I enjoy your videos so much and agree with you these old buildings will eventually just fade away to nothing ...
This is not a youtube video this is a youtube show. Very entertaining, sprinkled with humor, human feelings and spectacular photographs.
Never seen a single video with so many outstanding images in. No arrogance no showing off just quality and passion. 👏🏻😊
You don't get nearly enough credit for your filming and editing skills. You always get a lot of great coverage, your transitions are creative, your music choices always for nicely, and your style is consistent and high quality.
I know the behind the camera stuff is tedious but the result is super polished.
So, cheers to that my friend.
Best notification I’ve gotten in a long time. Thank god.
That recliner shot with the sunset at 20:26 is what photography dreams are made of. I love it.
A 4Runner, a camera, and amazing scenery....life doesn’t get any better.
This is pretty much, why I built a bed in my van. I have this grandiose idea of finding something that needs morning or evening light and I can sleep Comfortably before and/or after shooting it.
Great video. Subbed
I watch a lot of photography channels on youtube but nothing gets me more motivated and excited to shoot than these On Location videos.
Came to this video following your recent 'chat' with Thomas Heaton, who lives near to me in North East England. I really enjoyed your trip to the Mojave desert - brought back some great memories of Southern CA. Looking forward to watching more of your stuff Nick.
Damn man. That first interior chair shot is the stuff dreams are made of. Banger of an image.
watching one of these videos right before bedtime is like Grandpa telling me the best bedtime story ever. About abandoned scary recliners, of course.
Such wonderful photos!
that last dusk shot is a banger! way to change things up and challenge yourself 💪🏽
Yeah, the interior shots are fantastic. I likes the first one as much as the last one.
Don’t ever quit and go home, you’re sh*t is awesome and super inspiring!
That shot with the birds,... maaannn, a work of art. Thanks for sharing your thought process
the dynamic range of certain films is just incredible
By far my favorite photographer on UA-cam. I may not be shooting much film any longer (just don't have the time needed), but I love your subject matter even though I'm on the other side of the Country from you.
Thank you very much, my friend.
Boy have I been waiting for some Nick Carver amazing film photography❤️❤️❤️
Man I really hope a streaming service just throws a ton of money at you so Photography On Location became a streamable series.
Love the tempo of your videos. Is like a stress remover. :)
I absolutely love it when you do these types of videos Nick. Huge fan of abandoned spaces and you always seem to find such interesting buildings. The final shots with the chair inside the building are superb, the telegraph poles framed within the windows one by one are a great touch.
I really like the chair panoramic with the sun streaming in. It adds a nice mood.
Really enjoyed this man. The talk of creative ruts really resonates with me as that’s what I’m always struggling with myself. Great video Nick
Interior with chair, and few other images, have an “Edward Hopper “ vibe.....
Exactly!
I agree
Yeah, I thought so too. The railroad, the birds, the old chair telling an implicit story. And the almost horizontal light. It's amazing., Very Edward Hopper-esque.
I had an ancient version of your TLR, Mamiyaflex, with an 80 & 180mm. Such a solid camera. Took that camera everywhere. Got it in the 70's.
Excellent and entertainment video Nick , with some stunning images, I found you through your Thomas Heaton chat .
This is by far my favorite youtube channel
Thank you!
If your intuition tells you the conditions are not right it's ok to pack up and return another day, creativity shouldn't be a battle. I really liked the abstract nature of the b&w boulder shots, a masterclass in composition.
Those square photos are really something!
A new video from Nick can make a good day even better! Only drawback is that it makes me soooo impatient to come back to the US and shoot a truckload of film!
Keep up with the great work man!
Doooo it
True point about capturing now before its gone. One of the reasons I love photographing abandoned places.
Ooooooh that last shot, love those colors
As someone from Arizona, I'll never get tired of the abandoned buildings shot in the desert. You could literally make a video about photographing dog turds and I'd still watch the heck out of it. Wonderful shots as always!
Don't give Nick any ideas
Love your process Nick
That last moody dusk shot is so good. Nice choice on pulling the film.
I can't help feeling there is a sadness about many of these old building. As has already been said, there is an Edward Hopper feel to them. "The Night Hawks" particularly springs to mind. Thanks for taking us along.
Hey Nick. You're knowledge is actually a lot more profound than you let on and your thought process is genius!
Your work is always compelling and your videos are much fun.
Thank you 🙏🏼
We appreciate your honesty and candour man. You're humble and funny and your knowledge photographique is second to none. Would love to see your sub count quadruple in the coming months. Thanks for the ride :)
I wouldn’t mind seeing that myself. Thank you, my friend!
That last image is so good man. I'm glad to make it through the video. That last image is so nice.
Love the last one! Great work.
You might be in doubt, Nick. I'd say, just PLEASE continue. I love the stories, the passion and most importantly the pictures.
It’s truly enjoyable to listen to a person’s process and their self-critique. I had a different point of view on which version of the recliner photo worked best. It’s fun to see all the iterations and hear which the photographer thinks best matches their vision and style. Always fun Nick - thanks!
Coming back and binge watching all your videos because they are so entertaining. Keep it up
I find whats more impressive than the Photography itself (and no NICK, you're not a hack) is the effort and thoughtfulness you put into the video.
“Organized chaos” or “ordered chaos” is my favorite thing. Thank you.
I agree, that second frame of the recliner series has a lot going for it as well. I, too, appreciate how it’s divided into multiple images within itself. 👍🏻
Well that was dang awesome. Been itching to get out in the Mojave... So hot right now. Great shots man.
Thank you!
Thanks for watching and for the kind words!
Dude, the production value on your vids is always killer but this is next level. Appreciate the effort you must go to to make these amazing vids.
Oh the voices, boy do I know those voices...
Great video as usual.
Ok, well that got a subscription. Thank you for your creativity and your hard work Nick. We all hear the voices from time to time. I've been shooting since that 220 was new and they always come back from time to time.
The beginning where the car goes out of the garage until Nick arrives kinda looks like a movie 🥰
Another great video of the great Nick Carver... love the Photography On Location series
Bill Brandt sprung to mind .. 👌 delightful
That 90mm shot of the chair is AMAZING. Great job!
Haha - I love it. Thanks, Ricardo. I appreciate you watching...and coming along with me.
You nailed it Ricardo .
Wonderful shot with the 90mm of the interior with the chair. Keep up the great work always love to see your on location videos.
Brilliant. Back to thé roots of the photography. Thank You
This is the first video since #stayhome that made me feel inspired to pick up my camera and shoot back again. Awesome photography, love the mood.
That’s awesome man I love to hear that.
"I don't often use 90mm lens ... because I'm not that attracted to the wide angle look anymore" :) A lot of us cropped sensor shooters would scratch our forehead at this statement ))))))))))))) Great photos Nick! Can't wait to see more of your work.
You are just a killer Nick that composition with the chair is just insane!!!
Yet another fantastic location video. You really deserve to be picked up for your own TV show!
Rocking a baseball raglan warrants an immediate 'thumbs up'. Great work as usual, Nick! Production values are always top-notch.
😮omg... Love the squares ones ... And no, sir. Not tired of ur shots in the deser 🏜️ 😮😮😮😮😮😮
Video packed of great photos from the beginning to the end, from the squared black and white images to the 6x17 in color and all what's in between :-)

You are an artesian and master of your craft. Love your work.
So much talent here, Nick. Every single exposure shared is a keeper without a hint of a doubt.
You've done some lovely work photographing these old buildings a time gone past there's something to be said about vintage cameras and the timeless beauty they give thank you for sharing some beautiful work and patience

Love your work Nick, your videos are inspirational, informative, entertaining and not filled with fluff. Every new upload is a treat. UA-cam needs more of this content!
Them's some serious boulders! Those are great shots Nick. You have not lost your mojo brother.
I've just bought a c220 and have run one roll through it so far and I love it! It's like a tank or a well made clock, just well built and a pure machine! I've only just gone back to film recently and loving the experience. Just discovered your channel and love the content, I'm looking forward to watching more of your videos! Cheers and hats off for your great videos, and again: please dont hesitate to film yourself photographing old buildings!! ;-)
oh and one more thing: the image with the chair looking out of the "windows" into THAT spectacular landscape is like an org**** for the eyes, stellar!
Your old building photos are great, keep shooting them
Love your videos Nick, always make me laugh!! That last shot was the bomb!! Thanks for your great work from Australia.
Damn - that C220! It’s got to be my favourite camera. Having said that, that 6x17 format, man, it does for me e v e r y time. Another glorious video full of glorious imagery.
