The rate displays have been improving at recently is astonishing. It almost makes me hesitant to pick one of these up knowing a newer, even better display will be released in a couple of months.
I know right! I was ready to pick up a 1440 360hz OLED monitor this year, but then ASUS come out with the 480hz monior. All I want now is DP 2.1 and I'll have a monitor that I'll be using for years.
it just this year that it improve, look at the aw3423dwf it was king of oled for a few years already. But now new and shiny monitor came up and fk it I want one of these.
Do your research on company road maps to see if the near future holds something that you feel would be worth it over what is currently available. If there is something better for you wait it out , if not do not deprive yourself from an awesome gaming experience. Myself, I'm happy with a 27" 1440 VA monitor, it will last until the 39" & 45" 4k oleds come out those may be my endgame monitors , if they are't what I had hoped , then the 32" 4ks will give me plenty of options
I love that you show actual gameplay captured with camera. Most reviewers on UA-cam don’t seem to be playing and only go on about numbers and loop some demo footage. That doesn’t transport the impression a gamer expects to get from that monitor at all.
same, but how much does it matter when the camera, the videoediting, and the viewrs monitor are all gonna change the picture anyway? fwiw im watching his video on an oled
@@salami99 You dont get an accurate replication of the image sure, but you can get a relative impression (brightnesss compared to the surrounding etc.)
What you see on a camera, or even from a screen capture, is not representative of what it looks like in person. For example, if you're watching on an IPS display, then it's physically impossible for you to see the black levels of an OLED display. That's one of the many ways in which you don't get the actual experience. The only way to get a good idea of what a monitor is like is to see it in person.
Doesn't matter much, because both WOLED and QD-OLED use different sub pixel patterns to RGB. In fact, QD-OLED is even worse because its pixel layout is more like alternating bricks stacked on top of each other, and they don't even align to end at the same position, so it's literally impossible for the off pixels that make text black to make perfectly straight lines vertically.
I've been using an ultrawide for years now, there are very few issues with aspect ratios etc - at very worst you need to typically run a little mod or just put up with black bars playing in 16:9 or 4:3 for older games. One problem I've never been able to resolve is with in home streaming, Steam/moonlight etc simply can't change the resolution of the game without a lot of mucking about trying to move between an ultrawide local display and a remote 4k display. Trust me I've tried everything.
Some people on Reddit have said that when doing 16:9 on an ultrawide OLED too extensively, the display ages like shit. The pixels in the black bars will be under a much lighter load over time, so as the pixels that fit the 16:9 format start burning out and lose some of their brightness, the outer ones will look much brighter relatively speaking, causing a pretty obvious and distracting border between a dimmer center and a brighter edge to emerge over time. Don't know how much of a concern this actually is, though. Reddit can be overdramatic at times.
All you have to do is change your desktop resolution when you want to stream. I stream to my ally all the time but I just have to change my desktop resolution before doing so.
Considering I'm rocking a 38 ultrawide from LG that keeps the QHD sharpness, I'm not that eager to swap yet. I prefer the more mild curve, simply because it does not interfere as much with the desk and seems more pleasing for my vision - i feel as if the aggressive curvature is not matching the human eyesight that well. I'll wait a little longer.
@@hades4438I want an OLED ultra-wide, but i hate how just about every 32 inch and up ultra-wide has a curve. My old 34 inch LG I have now has 0 curve. The few ultra-wides that are in that size and are without curves have non-competitive refresh rates (i.e just 60hz, or 75hz at best, what my monitor currently is) - i do use my ultra-wide professionally as well (photo editing, Excel sheets) so curves ? No thanks. Luckily i do have a Sony A90J (55 inch) hooked up to my 3080 as well so at least ihave 4K/120/G-sync/HDR - but not every game i`d like to play on that.
I am still waiting for a proper upgrade from the 38" LG. All OLEDs right now feel like compromises compared to the LG. I want a proper upgrade. 1600p or higher, 38", 240Hz, 21:9, OLED. That would be my dream monitor.
And have you actually played on an aggressively curved monitor??? Trust me, once you switch and get used to it, you can't go back. It does fit the human eyesight well.
@muSPKWoW no never. my brother had a 1000r 16:9 which I tired multiple times but hated. He has the 800R 45" LG which I admit is great for certain games, but I just vastly prefer the 2300R on the AW38", the 1800R on my AWDW is the most I'd want to go tbh. Superficial reason but I also hate the way the aggressive curve looks physically on the desk
I just bought the 49" g9 oled. Because it has a lower curve. From my own experience. High curve displays are definitely impressive when playing a game suited for it. As displays get bigger, we can only sit so far away from them while still having a traditional desk setup. If you have a huge display with a high curve and you sit to close to it, you will end up turning your head to see the stuff on the edges of your screen. This ends up getting annoying and can make your neck sore, especially with some games. Believe it or not the first thing you should do when buying a big monitor is consider how much space you have, not just on your desk/wall, but space to sit away from said desk/wall. Proper viewing angle/distance isn't talked about enough. Seems silly but it does matter.
3 years back i picked up a 3440x1440p Ips 75hz from viewsonic and i can say while it hasnt made me like a godtier gamer or anything like that but the immersiveness when playing games even competetive shooters is just unreal on top of that the model i chose had really exceptional color accuracy and hdr certification so watching movies in their native 21:9 when possible is always a treat to your eyes
@@teekanne15 i have an reclining ergonomic office chair that i can sit in all day with no pain or discomfort i dont remember the brand or where its from cuz my friend bought it a couple years back and replaced it with a generic gaming chair, but i usually kick my feet up on my desk or on my subwoofer under my desk and just recline a bit, imo curved monitors are only really beneficial if youre sitting like right in front of it an arms reach away, i dont usually have alot of people over for movies or whatnot and if i did i do have a tv i could plug into my pc, but with my use case curved isnt really necessary for viewing angle or proper brightness cuz i have an IPS monitor the viewing angles are already very solid with little distortion
@@advancegeo2986 Thank you for your in depth reply. Thats how I watch youtube videos or some short term content, for movies I prefer the couch (also because my dog and my 2 cats can join me there)
You can fix the text rendering issue. Either disable cleartype (just search for cleartype in the start menu), or go through the cleartype configuration and set it up for the different subpixel layout. This is part of windows since XP if i remember correctly. There were CRTs with non standard layout too and windows worked fine with those after properly configuring them.
Cleartype still tries to optimize the text for a RGB subpixel layout even when you go through the configuration. The only way to fix this is to disable Cleartype or for Microsoft to fix it with an update.
Having played both late OW1 and entirety of OW2 on an ultrawide 32 inch monitor, I can't ever see myself going back. And yes, I also main Tracer, but after adjusting to the screen format I really didn't find myself struggling compared to beforehand when I played on a flat screen 27 inch. I also use it professionally, so I went with a less aggressive curve, but still the immersion at a 50cm screen-to-face distance is great. Hopefully ultrawide OLEDs will also see better price competition once they become more standardized, just like regular ultrawides have become.
I'm shocked it supports ultra wide now. I haven't tried Ultra wide with Overwatch since Overwatch 1 and many years prior . I still play it now but on a 16/9 1440p240 monitor. Happy it does support it though, although it feels like sort of a secret because I am a Master's player and didn't know/don't know any gm players that know either
@@willwunsche6940 yea it does, and whereas in OW1 it was a cropped 16:9 frame, in OW2 it's actually a full uncropped 21:9 aspect ratio so your fov has more adjustment options than a standard aspect ratio monitor. It used to be that their software ratio scaler had an issue with small black bars on the side, because they focused on hard locking the aspect ratio rather than the actual pixel count on Ultrawide screens, and 3440x1440 even though it is advertised as 21:9, in actuality it is specifically 21.5:9, which the game did not account for. Had to talk with their support on the bnet forum for months before they realized why the black bars were happening, but eventually they got it fixed and now its perfect.
@@alexsp7086 indeed. I've not tried a 38 yet, I wonder how much bigger that would feel when sitting at a desk length, as that would be getting closer to tv screen size at that point. But yea, 32 inch seems like the sweet spot where its not like you're missing out on size nor pixel density.
Given the price of a monitor like this, if you're wanting to use it mainly for driving / flight sim stuff I think a VR headset probably makes more sense. Even more immersive than an ultrawide. I'm personally waiting for a mainstream PC headset with eye tracking before jumping into VR though. Partly because I think that's going to be an essential interaction method, but also because when the FOV increases so much and you're asking your PC to push all these pixels, it makes sense to focus the rendering budget on where the user is actually looking. Because without foveated rendering there is a significant extra cost to both ultrawide and VR, when compared to more traditional 16:9 displays.
I think it's still too early for VR tbh, current sets are much better than last gen, but still lacking in many areas. More clarity, higher FOV, and foveated rendering based on eyetracking like you mentioned are needed. They are also not that comfortable to wear for longer gaming sessions.
i would agree UNTIL, it becomes summer then you wouldnt play a racing game for a season if you already have a decently sick monitor for everything else and are considering a curved vs VR just for sim racing, bigger argument but if you're both upgrading main screen and want to sim race, that bumps this into worth considering
Even with standard games, I have a hard time deciding now wether I play games on the Oled G9 or the Pimax Crystal via the Unreal Engine VR injector mod now (if they work well)
I don't think wearing a VR headset for several hours, maybe ever day, is a practical optin tho. Also many have the issue of motion sickness and also an ultrawide monitor simply offers many advantages for non gaming applications. VR doesn't do that.
You have to do a behind the scenes video pleaaase. I’d love to know what’s your lighting setup, which cameras you use and what settings you use. I love that low light, elegant vibe 🤯
I have a flat ultrawide and I like it. If I were to go with a curved monitor it would have to be very slight, maybe 2000R. What I really want is a 38" 1600p 21:9 240hz OLED but I doubt we will see such a thing ever.
I know bro same, I thought it was likely to happen but at this rate I'm starting to give up. Like I was almost certain that Alienware 38 ultrawide was gonna get an OLED refresh at one point, but I guess one can only pray
I have a 38 inch 1600p 21:9 144hz as well and am waiting for the 45 inch 5k/2k OLED 165hz 21:9 LG has on their panel roadmap. Its supposedly coming next year. We will probably see it unveiled at CES 2025 next Jan.
I love the dark wallpaper pack in the video! Do you think you'll make a white version? I'd like to cycle between both a black and white set for different times of the year
I have been using a AW3423DW for a little over a year, and I have not had any burn-in even using it with work and gaming. First unit had the joystick fail, and Dell overnighted me a free monitor and nothing to send back. Was a surprisingly smooth experience. Considering Dell's warranty is for three years and covers burn-in, I probably wouldn't buy another brand based on my experience. I would drop down to a 32" monitor after using a 34", because the added width is sometimes more annoying than it is a benefit. Would be easier to see what's on screen, and some games don't support 21:9 or have black bars during cut scenes.
Would love to see you check out a CRT monitor for competitive gaming! 4:3 aspect ratio, refresh rates up to 200hz (higher with custom resolution scaling), blanking period, OLED-level response times…they are getting very hard to find but I think it would make for a great video.
Just Excited to see an upload from you because there isn’t a better, smoother UA-camr that showcase Hardware so well. I’m really excited to see the 32 inch 4k 240hz with dual mode from Asus or the 27 inch 1440p 480hz and last but not least the 39 inch 240hz from Asus. I’m looking forward to get an Ultrawide just for Openworld games, not competitive mainly.
>Gets immersed in the "Activate Windows" watermark Jokes aside awesome vids Optimum, I think you're one of the best "real" tech tubers, no bullsh*t just man to man talk kinda vids. Love you bro keep it up
I own the "previous-gen" Samsung G7 27", the one that most reviewers recommended as faster than IPS and only slower to OLED and compared to the previous-previous G5 27" and it really is a significant difference in response speed and no ghosting unless its set on fastest overdrive. Since I got this one on for ~500EUR a year and a half ago, now I am still not ready to go OLED with current prices, maybe if we get something like this one you are testing at 27" 1440p at ~500-650EUR next year.
Thing is I don't play Overwatch, Fortnite or Valorant which are the FPS competitive games that will benefit greatly from OLED amazing pixel response times, but on average 60-144fps games like D4, Cyberpunk 2077, MMOs so besides a bigger screen all I would get is the deep blacks (and with Samsung VA they already feel significantly deeper than with IPS, especially if you have at least some light in the room to create contrast). Still, I do want an OLED but not going to rush it yet.
I got the g7 27" too early last year. I'm not sure if it's "previous gen", but I wanted to ask Does it take 10 seconds to start up the monitor? It's the only issue I've had with it
The G7 does take longer to "boot" than my "older" G5 and I think it is linked to me using Display Port with him, while with a HDMI it may display picture faster.
@@fpgamer4566 I never really noticed it but yeah my monitor does take like 10 seconds to cold boot. But I usually leave it on in sleep mode and overnight I turn my computer off too so they both take about the same amount of time to fully load
I am the opposite, I really do not like the 800R curve, it is just to aggressive. Also the pricing you listed is wrong, if you get the 34" QOLED Freesync from Alienware it is $800 right now, so a pretty massive savings.
Hi Ali! I'm not sitting that much into monitors space and I have to buy one now. I am on a budget of about 200-250€ and those are the options I have: SAMSUNG Odyssey G4B 27" 240Hz FHD IPS HP OMEN by HP 27Q 27" 165Hz QHD IPS GIGABYTE G27Q 27" 144Hz QHD IPS GIGABYTE G27QC 27" 165Hz QHD VA Lenovo G32QC-30 32" Curved 170Hz QHD VA LG 27GR75Q-B 27" 165Hz QHD IPS Tbh i expect mostly smoothness as I need my monitor mostly for Overwatch 2, but I don't wanna suffer on quality while playing other games like GTAV or Witcher 3. Also I ain't sure if I need 27" or 24" would be enough, or if I need 27" to be QHD, as FHD will look awful. I will be really thankful for your response, have a nice day :)
Optimum, what are the t-shirts you wear? With the short sleeves but they're a bit bigger. You wear them in almost all your videos. Are they true classic? I need some just like that. Thanks so much hope you reply.
I was hoping you tried out The Finals on this too, because I'm super tempted to go 21:9 or even 32:9 on it. But like you said, for a competitive FPS like that I'd probably prefer 16:9. Guess I'll just have to buy one & see for myself.
I only play competitive fps games and been gaming on a 21x9 g5 for the last couple years and I love it. To the point that I'm tempted to upgrade to the 39inch woled monitor that is coming out
5:18 I wouldn't recommend doing that if you care about image accuracy. "Vivid Pixel" or simply "Sharpness" is a calibration target that's usually set from factory, best left at default or 50%. Sharpness is supposed to be set as neutral as possible for the resolution/pixel density, not emphasizing or de-emphasizing the boundaries between lighter or darker pixel edges. If the setting is incorrect, the gamma of fine pixel patterns, noise, or dithering will look too dark, or too bright, throwing you off the 2.2 gamma curve standard.
The only thing that stopped me buying the Alienware back in the time was the burn-in issue. I mostly use my screen for work in the day and gaming at night. And I don't want to have to be careful every moment I use it. So the only thing I can do is contemplating how good OLED is, but won't get one 🥲 An alternative would be Mini LED but I don't know
I have Samsung QDOLED G9 49" for 2 months now, 0 burn-in issues, not even hints of anything visible. Its 2nd gen panel better text clarity. Problem with WOLED panels is that they have horrible text clarity issues even worse than gen1 QDOLED panels - see latest monitor unboxed channel video. As long you can control room light source and keep it away from direct sunlight WOLED panels sadly are worse.
Dell have a great 3 year burn in warranty and one of the best. But I have same issue as you. 95% spent on work stuff...static images and bars etc. I have a 38 lg ultrawide 144hz which Will do me until the new 40" Dell ultra comes down in price
@@RESURRECT2 Recent OLEDs? Obviously not. They're still too new. The interesting part is what happens 4 or 5 or 10 years from now. My current 34 inch ultrawide LCD is now 8.5 years old, and works like new. These expensive OLEDs need to be able to match that to be worth the money. If Asus offered a 5-year burn-in warranty, I would consider buying one.
Dell/Alienware actually offer a 3 year burn in warranty like stated above where as Asus doesn't actually mention anything about burn in cover and the monitor only has a 2 year warranty.
The text color fringing is due to Windows Cleartype and if you disable that in settings you will get no fringing, but text will be less sharp which is a tradepff that has to be made becasue the fringing looks awful.
I just can't do an ultrawide, especially an OLED ultrawide that is going to have a disproportionate amount of burn-in in the center because most content is still 16:9 but if I was making a dedicated set up just for flight or car simulator I think this is definitely the way to go.
So nice that these monitors are out, I will be starting a new build with a 4090 so I am excited for the big step up. Have you ever tried the inwin POC case? was considering it for a new build
You might wanna wait for the next-gen nvidia graphics cards since current gen doesn't offer DP 2.1. Same goes for the new 4k oled monitors that are coming out (some will not come with DP 2.1). Of course, if your current build is not good, then I can see how an upgrade now might be worth it for you.
next gen graphics card release Fall of this year 50-series .. IMO a shaky position to buy an rtx 4090 because the 5090 will cost the same PRICE with double the performance releasing this fall.. If only you had waited.. IMO use what you have now and wait especially if you are spending that type of money
@@HumbleDude46995no, the 50 series will release in 2025 Edit: im still on a 1080 and looking to upgrade. It hurts to not get the best value but i cant hold off any longer
I can say the AW3423DWF is fantastic, my only gripe is the screen gets smeared easy. As for OW2, it doesn’t show more a it just stretches as you go out from the center to fill the screen.
I used ultrawide with 1800R and with 1000R and I can say the difference is really big in favour of the 1000R. The answer is simple, you see a lot more of the screen by simply looking straight at it unlike 1500R or 1800R it's really more comfortable to track what's on your screen.
I loved ultrawide but many of the games i love don't support it without mods. Honestly i put off Elden Ring because i hate having to mod it and leave online functionality.
Same thing here, got an ultrawide because I'd seen some cool set-ups with it in World of Wacraft and Final Fantasty XIV as well as some racing games I enjoyed dabbling in and although it was a decent experience in those (Though perhaps almost too wide for WoW), it was basically unsupported or making the experience worse in practically every other game I played.
@@SenipLuffyeah man I don't know why the Japanese have such a problem with UW resolutions but I feel a bit tired having to hope for each game to support it. And the black bars kill me when the game can't be modded.
it is even worse for us linux users, we currently can't mod it out, there's some sort of injection problem. I mean, at least you have the freedom to choose it.
Amazing video as always, I plan to go for the ROG Swift OLED PG32UCDM since I think it's too big since I move out a lot due to my parent work so if you make a video you can bet, I will be here when it comes out anyway keep up with the amazing content optimum!
Listen, OLED is amazing. I loved my 42" LG C2, but I wish we would see more higher resolution ultrawide IPS panels. I know Dell is coming out with their 5K2K curved IPS 120Hz panel (which I'll gladly snag when the price drops below $1,500) but I'm hoping to see other brands adopt that same resolution and give us more options for those of us who actually don't mind IPS for productivity and occasional gaming. Until then, my 38" Alienware will continue to serve me well.
QD-OLED has more color volume, and when combined with the semi-glossy coating on most QD-OLED models, it'll look just as bright as these new gen WOLEDs that are (only technically) brighter. LG is trying to win the brightness war, because they know QD-OLEDs have the much nicer looking colors.
I went from 21:9 to 32:9 and to be honest, I'll never go back. Most will say it's cheating, but the additional situational awareness you get in games from being able to see so much is insane. Immersion is next level and the fact these panels run at 240hz is also nuts. You'll need a 4090 for them for sure, but man, it's an experience.
It's def not a handicap lol Y'all throw numbers and math all over some of these replies but at the end of the day the ability to see way more, by running a lower FOV than the next guy and bringing the important elements in the middle of the screen to a larger size is an advantage. Go hit up some of the screen comps that are out there that show what you see on a 16:9 vs 21:9 vs 32:9 and it's insane. I highly recommend it for a more immersive experience and for situational edge in some games. I cannot count the times in Tarkov where I've caught someone in my perif and I never would have seen them on a normal display.
I'm quite confused to be honest. When I look at a game in 16:9 vs 32:9 the center viewable area of my screen is the same on both the horizontal and vertical nature. When I look at it in 32:9 it just continues the viewable area horizontally while maintaining my vertical amount. Check the ultrawide reddits that have done a lot of comparison with 16:9 and then making the jump to 32:9. Same viewable space in the middle of the screen with much more viewable area in the perif.
@@SimonWoodburyForget you are assuming same size of monitor in inches (e.g. a 34" 16:9 to 34" 32:9) which would definitely affect how much vertical space to horizontal space you could observe. But consider that a 27" 16:9 monitor has the same vertical measurement as a 34" 21:9 monitor at about 14" (same for a 49" 32:9 monitor). If the game truly supports ultrawide, you could cover up the extra width and the FOV and vertical space should be the same. This wasn't true for OW2 on launch, but I think it supports it now. It could be considered a handicap if your brain can't process more incoming information maybe?
@@darielchang5302it’s definitely not a disadvantage in shooters that have larger open areas. It could be a slight disadvantage in tighter areas of bigger maps, and on games that have smaller maps, but it’s probably mostly a wash. What isn’t a wash is the overall experience, and immersiveness IMHO.
I only want one (Woled only, QDoleds burn-in is too ridiculous) for browsing and work. Gaming is still far better on oled TVs because of their stronger BFI support (most notably supporting 60fps games, who need the visual clarity boost the most) and I don't think even nvidia's Pulsar will change this.
Like the other guy said, OLED monitors make the least sense for browsing and work, I hate browsing on my OLED, I'm looking at getting an innocent 32m2v to replace it because browsing and work is not optimal
Love it. I also much prefer W-OLED. I have an LG C2 now but am waiting until the RGWB 5120x2160 21:9 ultrawides come out next year to replace it. I had a PG348Q 34" ultrawide IPS from 2016 to early 2023 and love the format, can't wait to get back to it but I need more pixels than 3440x1440!
@@Skrenja What I think you mean is 7900xt/xtx and no, but I've owned a 2080Ti, 3090 and now 4090 so by the time these displays arrive I'm sure i'll be set. Resolution was never the problem, however. If you're referencing the 57" G9 issue with its 7680x2160 resolution, at 240Hz its bandwidth requirement was too high even for DP 1.4 w/ DSC. 5120x2160 is 21:9 so not as wide, or as bandwidth hungry. Rumors are these will also be "only" 165Hz which requires 60Gb/s at 10-bit. With DSC at a 2.5x compression ratio that's 24.07Gb/s which is within within DP 1.4a's 25.92Gb/s bandwidth cap. The thing that 100% sold me on ultrawide monitors is OLED. My biggest criticism before is the back-lit letter-boxing when watching/playing full screen 16:9 content
@@xSabinx1 The burned in is reversed in the areas. If you consume a lot of 16:9 content on 21:9 OLED monitors, the middle part of the screen where there's no black bar will be dimmer than the 2 sides at some some point.
The 21:9 on OW2 is actually a pretty good scam. You dont see more, but less. The way the game works in 21:9 is that it cuts off the top and bottom bars, instead of increasing the side view, because they still dont want you to get a competetive advantage. Its just dumb. And 32:9 doesnt even work. Edit: So i was wrong and it was only OW1 and OW2 supports 21:9 properly.
It doesn't even give a competitive advantage. I believe there are multiple videos showcasing that the wider the monitor, the slower the reaction time because there's just too much information on the screen.

Wide FOV is the only way to reasonably play any game with immersive first person driving. Even outside of racing sims, games like Cyberpunk and GTA are very difficult to drive in first person at standard 70-100 FOV since you have no peripheral vision. Cool to see that category has mostly caught up in terms of responsiveness.

Great video as always! Please do check out the new huntsman v3 pro series, it seems they have improved the rapid trigger functionality but I want to see if that's actually true in your testing 😅
Gorgeous monitor and finally one that has both decent Type-C power delivery with KVM-switch AND gaming features (VRR, high refresh rate, OLED etc...) Just one question though, can you disable that asus logo light underneath the monitor? I mean both that tiny downward facing "project" thing and bottom "chin". @optimum, do you know? Great video as always! ;-)
I have the AW3423DWF, and I don't think i'll be wanting an upgrade until a 5040x2160 240hz **TRUE** HDR 1000 OLED with good burn in protection comes to market. So i'll be needing to make this panel last probably 4-5 years (easy to do with my XV273K as a secondary)
Issue with these screens are that you not buying them for longevity. Because you have imagine retention in no time. So i would recommend 16:9 and not ultrawide because i own the aw3423dwf and i regret spending that much money on a monitor that has after 9 months already image retention. Yes the image quality is really good but the for that kind of money you wanna keep a monitor longer then a few years. Ultrawide is not recommended for multipurpose use or 16:9 content.
21/9 is superior for every application I can think of. I bought it for games and movies, it revealed a fantastic productivity tool, much more convenient than double screens
I can't wait to see what the MPG 271QRX QD-OLED and the rest of the nice screen response time rankings and the rest of the rog screens that are coming out! 🎉
I hope one of the three manufacturers using the 39” panel will send you one of those. I have a 34” Samsung curved ultrawide and what it lacks is the blacks. I looked at the LG ultra gear 45 and love the color and immersive curve, but maybe it’s a little too big for 1440 vs the 39’s coming out Q1.
Fun vid optimum! Id really like to see your review the new end game gear keyboard with the rapid trigger switches and aluminum case for $160 euro. Not available in us yet but its up on the german website
The rate displays have been improving at recently is astonishing. It almost makes me hesitant to pick one of these up knowing a newer, even better display will be released in a couple of months.
yeah if your current monitor is still working, i’d say wait at least another year or 2 cuz the prices will come down a little too
i got an "old" rog xg27aqm on clearance for 250 USD. don't think ima be getting a new one till this breaks down tbh.
The only way to get a good idea of what a monitor is like is to see it in person.

the only reviewer I watch that is actually decent at competitive fps games to give an accurate review. you are one of a kind.
if you go adjust ClearType text > untick turn on ClearType - you disable the rgb dithering thing its doing and make it black/white
@ 5:00
Doesn't matter much, because both WOLED and QD-OLED use different sub pixel patterns to RGB. In fact, QD-OLED is even worse because its pixel layout is more like alternating bricks stacked on top of each other, and they don't even align to end at the same position, so it's literally impossible for the off pixels that make text black to make perfectly straight lines vertically.
I'd appreciate putting the monitor name at least somewhere in the title or the description

Buy a dummy display hdmi connector :)
same problem in years on using ultrawide, my next monitor will be 16:9 but i will still keep my ultrawide as a secondary monitor
Have you tried using a dummy plug on your GPU? Solves that issue in Moonlight. If it doesn't it is likely something with your configuration.
All you have to do is change your desktop resolution when you want to stream. I stream to my ally all the time but I just have to change my desktop resolution before doing so.
Watching this on my Odyssey, it looks great.
Great intro btw, the filming on this channel is top notch.
Exactly, aggressive curve would be useful if you got a 55" ultra wide maybe but not for 32.. I think it does not even need a curve at all.
Exactly this.
I don't want to go from 38" 3840x1600 to 34" 3440x1440 just to have an OLED panel.
And have you actually played on an aggressively curved monitor??? Trust me, once you switch and get used to it, you can't go back. It does fit the human eyesight well.
Still not a fan of the 800R Curve on 34" or 39". I hope the 5K2K ultrawides have options with a less aggressive curve, 1800R is fine on my AW
Just a question, have you ever mained a 1000R or 800R monitor? Like used for extent of time?
@muSPKWoW no never. my brother had a 1000r 16:9 which I tired multiple times but hated. He has the 800R 45" LG which I admit is great for certain games, but I just vastly prefer the 2300R on the AW38", the 1800R on my AWDW is the most I'd want to go tbh. Superficial reason but I also hate the way the aggressive curve looks physically on the desk
Yeah 16:9 1000R sucks, much much better with ultrawide or super ultrawide@@xSabinx1
Can not wait for 5K2K! Been waiting for that for years now but I understand why they are not ubiquitous in the monitor market
I wouldn’t want to watch a whole movie sitting on a chair tho. How do you use it, does it have a curve or can you use it from a couch?
@@teekanne15 you need to invest in a better chair then

I feel like mentioning the lack of explicit burn in warranty unlike other manufacturers is worth mentioning.
Asus is now covering burn in for 2 years.
He released a new review for another LG OLED like a day or two ago with zero mention of warranty for an ASUS monitor, very odd.

@@DavidFregoli RIGHT
maybe we should wait for the new panels coming out in August/September 2024 which uses RGWB instead of RWBG and should fix the issue
32 inch is the sweet sport 34, 49 they all are not tall enough feels long and short. 38 and 45 look much better.
But yea, 32 inch seems like the sweet spot where its not like you're missing out on size nor pixel density.
that foreshadowing for the sim rig setup 👀
They are also not that comfortable to wear for longer gaming sessions.
i would agree UNTIL, it becomes summer
then you wouldnt play a racing game for a season
if you already have a decently sick monitor for everything else and are considering a curved vs VR just for sim racing, bigger argument
but if you're both upgrading main screen and want to sim race, that bumps this into worth considering
@@Bramagon gotta get a bobo headstrap if you're talking about the quest headsets

I know bro same, I thought it was likely to happen but at this rate I'm starting to give up. Like I was almost certain that Alienware 38 ultrawide was gonna get an OLED refresh at one point, but I guess one can only pray

Fantastic intro and some good points you're bringing up. Great work my guy, love my ultrawide 🦾🦾
Would you mind sharing your total screen power on time from the monitor menu?
Same... No burn in after a year.
Would love to see you check out a CRT monitor for competitive gaming! 4:3 aspect ratio, refresh rates up to 200hz (higher with custom resolution scaling), blanking period, OLED-level response times…they are getting very hard to find but I think it would make for a great video.

Yeah I have a Samsung G7 Odyessy 32inch 16/9 this feels like a pretty direct upgrade to 21/9 option
I'm not sure if it's "previous gen", but I wanted to ask
Does it take 10 seconds to start up the monitor?
It's the only issue I've had with it
The G7 does take longer to "boot" than my "older" G5 and I think it is linked to me using Display Port with him, while with a HDMI it may display picture faster.

Tbh i expect mostly smoothness as I need my monitor mostly for Overwatch 2, but I don't wanna suffer on quality while playing other games like GTAV or Witcher 3.
Also I ain't sure if I need 27" or 24" would be enough, or if I need 27" to be QHD, as FHD will look awful.
I will be really thankful for your response, have a nice day :)

I was hoping you tried out The Finals on this too, because I'm super tempted to go 21:9 or even 32:9 on it. But like you said, for a competitive FPS like that I'd probably prefer 16:9. Guess I'll just have to buy one & see for myself.
Playing Finals at 3840x1600, it's great
Playing warzone on an oled g8 and it often gives me the advantage of seeing things in the corners that my mates cant see with 16:9
I only play competitive fps games and been gaming on a 21x9 g5 for the last couple years and I love it.
To the point that I'm tempted to upgrade to the 39inch woled monitor that is coming out
Wouldn't 21:9 be better because you can see more to the sides?
Stick to 16:9 for competitive games.
So the only thing I can do is contemplating how good OLED is, but won't get one 🥲
An alternative would be Mini LED but I don't know
I have Samsung QDOLED G9 49" for 2 months now, 0 burn-in issues, not even hints of anything visible.

I really want the 45GR95QE-B but it doesnt have BFI. And there's no monitors that can match the size. :-(
The text color fringing is due to Windows Cleartype and if you disable that in settings you will get no fringing, but text will be less sharp which is a tradepff that has to be made becasue the fringing looks awful.

Currently using the 38LG950G (38" IPS), great monitor but very keen on an OLED, looks like this might well be the monitor for me 😀
I just can't do an ultrawide, especially an OLED ultrawide that is going to have a disproportionate amount of burn-in in the center because most content is still 16:9 but if I was making a dedicated set up just for flight or car simulator I think this is definitely the way to go.

@@SenipLuff How can it ever be worse if you can just use a 16:9 ratio with black bars ? It's either equal to a 16:9 screen or just better.
I swear this guy's videos' quality improves by 10x every time idk how
1.17.24
It is not a "better" version from the aw. They have different panel technologies, and the qd-oled actualy considered better in a number of aspects
@@xblur17but poor black levels
I went from 21:9 to 32:9 and to be honest, I'll never go back. Most will say it's cheating, but the additional situational awareness you get in games from being able to see so much is insane. Immersion is next level and the fact these panels run at 240hz is also nuts. You'll need a 4090 for them for sure, but man, it's an experience.
Nobody says is cheating, it’s actually a handicap, you must be bad.
It's def not a handicap lol
Y'all throw numbers and math all over some of these replies but at the end of the day the ability to see way more, by running a lower FOV than the next guy and bringing the important elements in the middle of the screen to a larger size is an advantage.
QD OLED doesn’t have crazy burn in? It’s quite the opposite actually…
why would you buy this just for browsing and work that makes literally no sense
like literally zero
Like the other guy said, OLED monitors make the least sense for browsing and work, I hate browsing on my OLED, I'm looking at getting an innocent 32m2v to replace it because browsing and work is not optimal
Love it. I also much prefer W-OLED. I have an LG C2 now but am waiting until the RGWB 5120x2160 21:9 ultrawides come out next year to replace it. I had a PG348Q 34" ultrawide IPS from 2016 to early 2023 and love the format, can't wait to get back to it but I need more pixels than 3440x1440!
Do you have a 7090 to run that resolution? 😂
This is all theoretical anyway, panel production for these monitors won't start until Q4 of this year so we won't see them until Q1-2 of 2025.
Man, those OLED text clarity issues. I wouldn’t expect this to become issue, when OLEDs started…
It's a Windows issue, not an OLED issue
@@Klblazolder OLEDs dont have this issue as they only have rgb subpixels.
Also, does Macs not have an issue with this?
And all laptops that are coming out now with OLED panels, how come they dont have this issue?
@@Wistbacka they will have this issue. Microsoft need to adjust Cleartype or create variants of it that take into account different pixel layouts. If they do that it will be a non-issue.
Not an issue on the 4K ones. Even with the 1440p monitors, for most people it would not be an issue.
It's no real issue @≥109ppi (like with the 27" QHD & 34" WQHD OLEDs) if you're not sitting 5cm away from your screen.... 😉 You can see it if you go close and look for it but is doesn't bother me @all and I am normally quite sensitive to these kind of things...
You don't even know how hyped I am waiting for the optimum racing sim setup!!!
Built in KVM! How much latency does that add to the mouse and keyboard?
Not nearly enough to matter lol
I hope you get to review the new Alienware QD 240hz ultrawide as well! I really wanna see how they compare to Woled!
it might be that im closer to 40 now but obviously I still like great monitors with high refresh rates, deepest blacks and so on, but there's not a chance in hell I'd buy one of these monstrosities with stupid edgy logos and useless rgb lights for which I'm sure they charge you way too much.
U can turn it off
The thing that 100% sold me on ultrawide monitors is OLED. My biggest criticism before is the back-lit letter-boxing when watching/playing full screen 16:9 content
Biggest warning for ultrawides is 16:9 burn in. Had 3 AWDF all got 16:9 burn in from watching youtube
How? Aren't there black bars on sides? My AWDW has no burn in after almost 5000 hours
use "ultrawideo" it will stretch it to fit , its not perfect but its better than burn in
damn rly?
@@xSabinx1 The burned in is reversed in the areas. If you consume a lot of 16:9 content on 21:9 OLED monitors, the middle part of the screen where there's no black bar will be dimmer than the 2 sides at some some point.
Great video man! Do you have an 32" 4k monitor suggestions? Mostly for entertainment and work.
Not surprising from the blizzard
Edit: guess it's not an issue which is great
that was OW1, OW2 supports 21:9 properly
It aint dumb if it gives you abigger fov...
It doesn't even give a competitive advantage. I believe there are multiple videos showcasing that the wider the monitor, the slower the reaction time because there's just too much information on the screen.
@@xSabinx1it’s not an OW thing or a Blizzard thing, literally any game that’s semi competitive does it otherwise people can get 1000000 fov by playing stretched
Thumbnail goes crazy!
Activate your Windows!
optimum:
buying thounds of dollers worth of monitors peripherals etc
also optimum:
not buying a windows key
(just ment as a fun joke don t take it 2 seriously if he doesn t want to buy one for what ever reason its totally ok)
When you change out hardware a lot (like any tech reviewer does) it's a massive pain to keep Windows activated.
Looking for another 1440p monitor thats bigger than 27". Should i waif for the OLED market to get better or just not care about OLED for this year?
activate windows bro
No.jpg
No
😅
Wide FOV is the only way to reasonably play any game with immersive first person driving. Even outside of racing sims, games like Cyberpunk and GTA are very difficult to drive in first person at standard 70-100 FOV since you have no peripheral vision. Cool to see that category has mostly caught up in terms of responsiveness.
activate your windows lil bro
Lil bro? That guy? He is absolutely ripped
oh man every time i remember Star Wars: Squadrons exists i get sad. So much potential just squandered.
LG released their own version of this with the same display (LG 34GS95QE) same exact specs and I picked it up for $690 during prime deals ($600 off). insane value imo
new channel pic looking fire man👌👌👌👌👌👌🫡
I just bought my asus Pg34wcdm. Will be here monday. Cant wait to experience it im coming from a TN panel asus pg278q 1440p 144hz monitor. THANKS FOR ALL THE GREAT CONTENT.
How is it?
Hey ya! Just wanted to get an update on your personal rig, as I’m in the process of copying your build so would really like a breakdown of the fittings that you used so I don’t end up spending money on parts that I don’t need. Thanks, loving your work!
I just got the Philips 34m2c3500l 3440x1440 Fast VA 180hz 0.5ms on a 7800xt nitro + and its GREAT ! No ghosting. Great Ufo test.
Currently 290,- at black friday sale in NL. Normal price 370,- also r1500 curve wich isn't to extreme.
Love the content. Can’t wait for your next pc build
Ah i sure do hope you get into making simracing setups !
Hey optimum, what monitor would you say is the best for valorant?
Great video as always! Please do check out the new huntsman v3 pro series, it seems they have improved the rapid trigger functionality but I want to see if that's actually true in your testing 😅
For color fringing I'm using MacType on my C2 42", negates the effect drastically!
Give it a try as there're a ton of great OLED coming in this year )
Love the new profile picture sir! :)
Gorgeous monitor and finally one that has both decent Type-C power delivery with KVM-switch AND gaming features (VRR, high refresh rate, OLED etc...)
Just one question though, can you disable that asus logo light underneath the monitor? I mean both that tiny downward facing "project" thing and bottom "chin". @optimum, do you know? Great video as always! ;-)
You can disable it
@@p0lqroid that’s great news, thanks for the information! 😉
Worth mentioning is that some competitive games actually give you an advantage when you use ultrawide monitors
Hello Optimum! Long time without a viewer setup review video, kinda miss those!❤
I have the AW3423DWF, and I don't think i'll be wanting an upgrade until a 5040x2160 240hz **TRUE** HDR 1000 OLED with good burn in protection comes to market. So i'll be needing to make this panel last probably 4-5 years (easy to do with my XV273K as a secondary)
The Intro we did not wanted but needed. Godly.
Correction: the Alienware version is 1800R not 1600R
