I thought I needed ultra wide for productivity and it would be a “bonus” to game on. After buying one, I need it for gaming and it’s a bonus for productivity
LOL my man. Yeah I actually struck a devil’s deal. I really DO need an ultrawide for work because otherwise I would need two monitors - and since working from home I just don’t have room. So made the compromise and got a gaming ultrawide. Unfortunately, my gpu is/was not strong enough to satisfactorily drive the monitor - so now it’s AMAZING for work. Like really amazing. BUT - for gaming it was just OK but a downgrade from my 16:9 - so I actually sold my gpu on ebay since prices were crazy. And in the meantime I’m using an old backup GTX 1060. So currently - I really can’t game on my ultrawide - and I’m just waiting for an RX 6800XT or RTX 3080 to come into stock so I can use the money I made from selling my old GPU to buy! So it’s been bitter sweet.
@@DeathfireCaps that’s awesome man! 3070 is great! yeah i mean I ended up selling my RTX2070S on eBay and then buying an RX6800 on eBay - so I ended up doing OK because the price for both cards was $300 too much - so I ended up paying about what I should. But I’ve been on a waitlist for the EVGA 3080 that never showed up!!! A card is a card - at this point it’s like I was close to getting an RTXstareATtheWall
I bought a 35" ultrawide a couple months into quarantine and it was a revelation for both gaming and working from home. I don't think I could ever go back to a 16:9 monitor now. It's amazing.
I ordered a hp omen 3070ti with a dell 34" ultrawide, so looking forward to it when it arrives. Certainly will be an improvement over my 7 year old computer
I'd rather watch 21:9 movies on a 16:9 OLED TV for the immersive picture quality. Black bars aren't noticeable due to the OLED pixels being turned off. Same goes for 120Hz PC gaming on an OLED TV in which you can force a 21:9 image on the 16:9 TV. Nobody makes 21:9 OLED monitors unfortunately.
@@PSYCHOV3N0M Ultrawide is still an incredibly niche segment and many games (especially lazy console centric Japanese publishers) don't properly or at all support it. It is nice when it works, but the rest of the time is a headache. Though the last year i found that i prefer to play on my TV than on my Ultrawide anyway (still very useful for home office tho).
Been using 4k monitors for 4 years now, never looked back. Movie on a computer monitor? That’s a joke to begin with. 2020 still no OLED or 20k+ audio system, you have pretty much wasted all the movies you watched
I bought my monitor primarily for video editing but also for some gaming, and what it came down to for me was the realization that a 4k monitor had the exact same number of horizontal pixels, but 50% more vertical pixels, and a 32” 4k monitor is almost as wide as a 34” ultrawide. So for video editing I can use the full screen and then for gaming I can change the resolution to 3440x1440 for almost the exact same feel as the ultrawide would have given me. And I love being able to see a full resolution 1080p video while I edit it, WITH a crazy wide timeline. It’s the best.
I've had the Acer Predator X34 for the last 4+ years and when the Predator X35 came out this year I upgraded to it. I wish it had a small res bump but I am so happy with the full HDR1000 and faster refresh rate it's just been amazing. I don't think I'll ever go back to 16:9, gaming at 21:9 is amazing. I am mostly a singleplayer game type guy, RPGs and stuff, usually works out well. Every once in a while there's an issue but usually there's a community workaround pretty quick and sometimes the devs even come in later and fix it.
Yup, I laughed when I heard the ridiculous price difference between these two. You could literally pick up a great & fast gaming ultrawide and pocket hundreds of dollars of savings versus a harder to drive display that's worse for daily use.
I prefer Ultrawide because it changes up how you play and experience the game, while 4k is just a sharper 1080p image with the same aspect ratio. I have a 34" (3440x1440), 120Hz, G-Sync, IPS Display with a 1900R curve rating, and I love it! I've had this monitor since... early 2018, so 3 years now and I got it as cheap as £800/$1,100, which is unheard of for a monitor of this quality back then. I think 4k is great... for big TV's, but for gaming I prefer the extra immersion the 21:9 aspect ratio gives me, and it isn't as demanding as 4k.
Yup. Even with new generation hardware, there are only a few games out there that you can play at 4k 144hz. You'll never get any open world rpg at 144fps on 4k without substantially lowering the graphics, which defeats the whole purpose of having a 4k monitor. If someone is looking for a monitor with the emphasis on gaming, 1440p is where you need to be.
@@MrWitz90 don't completely agree on that, mostly because of the just released GPUs. Say the 38inch 1600p ultrawide in Warzone I am hoping to get up to 160fps with a 6800XT or 6900Xt with some settings tweaked. I am now getting avarage of 100fps with a 1080ti on 1440p with some settings tweaked so I don't mind turning down some stuff for the fps gain. I feel we are slowly surpassing the sweet spot of 1440p if you don't mind spending the money on a high end GPU.
@@R1987R You will not be getting 160fps on 1600p with any hardware without significantly decreasing your graphics setting. You may have spikes of 160fps, but your average will be closer to 100-110 with dips in the 90's. There are plenty of UA-cam videos that will show this. Besides, my point was directed to 4k, not 1600p. 4k (using rtx3080) dips to the low 70's in Warzone. You're not going to get smooth 144hz 4k experience with any hardware right now unless you play mobas or csgo.
@@MrWitz90 Hell you'd be hard pressed to even run 60fps 4k max, 4k 144hz is a pipe dream atm even with the best hardware unless you are playing league of legends.
Got the 38 inch one. Super happy with it. Much better than my 27 inch 144 hz for work and multitasking. Gaming is also great, so it is the best of both worlds!
I recently got a high-end 34" 1440p 160 Hz ultrawide (34GN850-B) and it significantly increases immersion in games vs non-ultrawides. I never want to go back, at least for gaming. A major advantage of 1440p over 4K is indeed that it is much easier to drive (significantly less pixels) so you get higher framerates while still maintaining an excellent experience. Watching cinema-scope movies on ultrawides is also fantastic, though I don't do it often and not all movies are shot in this format (though most big budget movies are).
Finally!!! I’m in med school so I spend 12+ hours a day at my computer studying and I like to wind down at the end of the day with some games. I’ve been torn between the LG 27GN950 and that same exact ultrawide. Thank you for making this video as I’m pretty set on the 4K monitor now
Would love to try the GN950 one day. I switched from a 24" 144Hz Benq 1080p Panel to the LG 27GL850 (1440p 144Hz 27") and was shocked when I had them side by side. The difference between IPS and TN is crazy. Still missing a higher end GPU to properly take advantage of the 1440p res though. My GTX1070 isnt cutting it anymore sadly. For anyone thats still looking for a nice looking gaming panel that doesn't break the bank, give the 27GL850 a try. Like Ali said, you will not be disappointed.
I went 27" 1440p 16:9 --> 34" 1440p 21:9 --> 27" 4K 16:9 (all 120/144Hz) and I'm personally happier with the smaller, higher pixel density display, but that's because I like my screen to be sharp during non-gaming as well.
perfect timing on the video! i've just gone through both UW (34gn850) and 4k (27gn950) and i decided on the 4k. i found UW to be a bit too big of a screen because i do like to sit relatively close to my display. and i've already got a 240hz monitor for competitive gaming so my 4k display is just for casual, single player experience. great video, and not enough of these UW vs 4k reviews on YT
Just increase the size of your monitor For example, the LG CX 55" will definitely feel more immersive than an ultrawide 38" It's actually the size of the panel which makes games feel better and the more your view is taken by the monitor, the better will be your feeling
@@rayaneh5230 The problem is that CX is only doing 120 hz. As some one who has used 240 hz, 165 hz, 144 hz and 120 hz I can definitely tell the difference. I would say that that while CX 120 hz is a nice upgrade to the 60hz I think the minimum should be at 144hz for smooth gaming experience. Don't get me wrong CX is nice and it is especially tempting consider it is compatible to all the new consoles, but to use it for pc-gaming the refresh rate is a downgrade to me. I also dislike glossy screen and it is not ideal in my setting. I am waiting for a 40 to 43 16:9 ips panel with matte screen that at least has 144 hz refresh rate with 4k resolution that also has hdmi 2.1. Such combo does not exist as of today. But I wish to see something around that ballpark to come out soon. I would drop 3k for such monitor in a heart beat.
I'm rocking a 32-inch 144Hz VA panel from Asus. The VG32VQ to be exact. Price is about $430 now, I believe. I gotta say, the 93 PPI pixel density is not the best when it comes to text, but actual sharpness and detail in games is unbelievable. Just having the extra screen size to be able to appreciate all that extra detail is very much appreciated. I do play at a medium distance, mostly to avoid eye-strain, so the size does not overwhelm me. All I can recommend to anyone is to head over to a retailer that has multiple screen sizes and resolutions available to sample. My nearest Best Buy has a bunch of them lined up, and helped me make the decision to go with 32 inches instead of 27.
For current games on max settings using a 3080, i'd rather have an ultrawide with stable high frame rates than a 4K with fluctuating frame rates. Personally prefer high frames than pixel density. Dont think i can ever shift back to 16:9 after experiencing 21:9.
I think 38" at 1600p and 32" with 4k are the real golden place to be. I just went up to the 38GN950-b, and I can't even imagine going back to my 34" ulrawide or my 27" 1440p. The only problem is getting the proper hardware to push these resolutions, and there are issues with some older games' menus on the ultrawide.
I’ve honestly always gone with the rule that 21:9 is for singleplayer story game enthusiasts and 16:9 is for competitive enthusiasts. Both monitors perform better that the other in respective areas.
Also worth noting if you're looking at the LG 27GN950 specifically that there is a firmware update now available which allows an overclock to the max refresh rate taking it up to 160Hz. Good luck driving 4K at 160fps in anything but competitive titles but it's still a value add and further extends the future proof appeal.
Really good monitors from LG! I hope that someday they will use the same OLED technology from their TVs on their monitors too. Would be so great with ultra low response times and HDR.
That distortion of ultrawide is perfect for me. I am a bit into photography and filmmaking and it gives me that ultrawide lens vibe. Like in film called The Revenant where Emanuel Lubezki used lenses from 14 to 21mm. Lovely style.
8:15 Potato Jet sighting. One of the most entertaining photo/video/vloggers on UA-cam. Sir, you have a great taste for monitors and youtubers 👌. I currently have an LG 34GK950-F and have an LG 27GN950-B coming in soon (open box black Friday steal of a deal). Really excited to compare the 2 myself after watching this video. Cheers!
As someone who daily drives an ultrawide I might add a stipulation. You talk about modern titles pushing UI elements to the side but I actually think the best case scenario is when they stay in the 16:9 position but you get additional horizontal FOV. Depending on how close you are to the monitor it can be difficult to see the corners without looking away from the center
One thing at the end of this video that I LOVE and NEED and that most UA-camrs underestimate and don't bother with: An actual choice of which one is better. Drives me insane watching loads of videos trying to see which one I should get and all they say is the obvious "it dePeNdS on WHaT yOu WaNT". Yes I know an eSports pro should pick the highest refresh rate, fastest panel and a mere mortal should get whatever, but this video had actual usable advice and choices
I've been gaming on a Dell U3011 30" 1600p monitor for 7 or 8 years now. I know it isn't high refresh, but it is glorious! The jump from 1080p was like looking thru a window to standing in the doorway - just more of everything and so much sharper. I'd love an even bigger monitor but this is the largest that fits my space.
I bought my ultrawide for gaming. I bought my LG 34UC79G-B 5 years ago, but I have the Alienware AW3423DWF waiting for me at the mail room. Since I started WFH, the ultrawide has amazing for work productivity. It's awesome to be able to open 2 windows (excel, Jira, Jama, KVM, etc.) side-by-side and they have their natural widescreen interface and feel.
You're underrated bro! The quality of your videos is insane at every point (lighting, focus ,image quality ,colours) and everything looks so clean .I really like your style and I think u will be bigger in the future as soon as possible Keep it up bro I'm a big fan and you're doing very well !
I've been using a 21:9 display for 5 years now and what I have to say about it is that for productivity, it is too small for a triple window layout and too big for fullscreen. A lot of programs and websites still do not center their content so there is a lot of looking to the left unless you manually adjust the window to be smaller and centered on the screen. Imagine that you have a dual 16:9 display setup with the space between the 2 monitors being right in front of you. That's about how it feels. I develop neck pain because of it if I'm not careful about my window management. I have a dual monitor setup with a 21:9 in front of me and a 16:9 display to the side and I think I would rather have a triple monitor setup with all 16:9 displays or a single monitor setup with a 32:9 display acting as 3 separate displays to the OS than the setup I have right now. Edit : My UHD monitor has a 2560px horizontal res. A 3440px horizontal res monitor would be much better but I don't think it would be enough.
Ultrawide all the way! I've been using an LG 34UM95 for a couple years, but once I upgrade my GPU (lol) I'd like to upgrade to a high refresh rate curved display. The Sceptre C35 looks pretty solid for the price.
I made the jump to 32:9 a few months ago and personally feel like, depending on the game, the skewed perspective isnt something very negative. In Escape From Tarkov seeing enemies I sometimes would have missed because of the aspect ratio is an absolute blessing. And then in more "open" games like witcher or horizon zero dawn, you just get lost in the world so much you would never notice it. The only thing that slighty concerns me is the fact that even though you render less pixels than at 4k you have to render more geometry at the same time. I've never seen any proper performance comparisons that delve into that part and sadly don't have the time or hardware to do that myself
just upgraded from a 144hz 1080p IPS & GTX 1060 combo to An ultra wide 2k 144hz & rtx 3080 ti. i honestly didn’t think i could be immersed in video games anymore but ultra wide changed my mind. I played Skyrim for like 200 hrs like I was 11 years old again.
Same here recently bought one and wow its a good step up from my 27inch 1440p screen more immersive and my visuals appear a little more crisp.27 was a lower end TN panel.
For me curved ultrawide definitely makes up for the few setbacks it has. I remember the first time I booted up Doom 2016 on my Alienware 34" coming from a 17.3" Alienware R4, damn man.
Here's my take coming from a guy who had both 2k monitor at least (Gigabyte G32QC 165hz) and Ultrawide (Titan Army C29SH 200hz 1080p) Monitor. If you like to stream competitive games that doesn't support 2560x1080 or some other resolution for Ultrawide, it would be hard to maintain the settings you want because you have to tweak stuff in order to fit screen space on your stream. Playing games like Valorant on a Ultrawide monitor that doesn't support full screen setting, the letterbox are so distracting when playing, so I think going for a non-ultrawide monitor for games like Valorant is the go. I am planning on using my Ultrawide monitor for Stream or Social Media stuff and would buy a 24.5 monitor for all gaming related. Ultrawide is really nice, but you can't have it all. If you don't plan on streaming or you don't have the plan on playing competitive games and you'd just use an ultrawide monitor for movies and open world games, it's a go. So.......... Ultrawide = no good for compet games like Valorant = good for open world games = good for movies and multi-tasking Non-ultrawide = Good for everything, but you can't multi-task.
@@darxustech2883 Not totally following ... But if I am following ... 1) I primarily use my monitor for work - although I do like to use it for gaming when I can ... so I don’t actually want the extra height ... just the width ... my desk is in front of a window - so if this 4k monitor were the same width - it would be waaaay taller and block quite a bit of the window - and just look enormous - which I do not want. So Aesthetically, is not attractive to me. 2) 4k monitors are quite a bit harder to “drive” than ultrawide ... so the gpu requirements are more difficult, so you have to bake that into the all-in cost, or just accept lower frame rates. 3) It’s a different field of view altogether ... so what you are describing is just a bigger 16:9 - although I suppose you could adjust your fov sliders, but it’s not the same. At least - that’s how i interpret your question.
I noticed that when I went from a 1440p 144hz 16:9 to an ultrawide 21:9 of the same specs, I noticed that my frames remained relatively the same. Maybe a dip of like 10 frames max, but it was unnoticable on a 2080 Ti, while I assume I would see a bigger dip going a 4k. Just food for thought for those thinking that an ultrawide would be a performance dip. I didn't see any, and definitely worth it when working on spreadsheets that have extremely long tables and formulas!
For me its ultwawide, had it for about 4 years now, theres no going back, dont think i could ever go back to 16:9 movies and browsing etc, the immersive single player games are insane. The only upside of 16:9 is the competitive gaming where it doesnt scale, in cs go for example i get an advantage in 21:9 coz it scales perfectly, but valorant does not sadly. Bought this in 2016: 3440x1440, 100hz, 21:9, gsync
i am so so happy with ultrawide, im using an alienware aw3420dw which isnt the very latest and greatest but still a gorgeous screen and i have been nothing but blown away by it. it warms me up inside to know games like cyberpunk will release day 1 with full support.
ultrawide 1440p, no brainer. Runs faster, better immersion, better 21:9 movies.. the point is curved or flat for productivity, but it's only a matter of preference
I didn't like curved at all and was a hold out for flat. But also going with 1 QHD rather than 2 curved, smaller monitors, the LG 34GP83A-B 34 Inch 21: 9 has been amazing for me.
I wanted a 43 inch 4K TV with fast response time for my gaming setup. I then realized that a 34 inch Ultrawide 1440p is essentially a section of a 43” 4K TV as it had the same pixel density but 40% less pixels. Meaning I got myself the same pixel density, same general experience and better refresh/colors for WAYYY cheaper than a 4K TV. It’s honestly just the smartest way to go if you are purely a gamer. Outside of that, I miss having standard 16:9 when watching videos. But I tend to watch videos on my iPhone or TV in living room anyway. Desks aren’t really made for that.
I've been gaming for the past years and half on a mid-range 3440x1440p 34" Ultrawide from MSI. I loved the extended field of view, especially in shooters, but I had a max refresh rate of 100Hz, the VA panel was great for contrast but not that much for colour and response time, and compared to a 27" monitor you do have much less vertical screen space. I recently bought a Gigabyte 27" 1440p IPS monitor with 165Hz max refresh rate, and it's just... perfect! Love the colours, the response times, the size, resolution. I rediscover my games: everything is so colourful and crisp! I do miss the ultrawide, though. The day they make ultrawides with the same kind of panel and refresh rate, colours, etc. and the same vertical screen space, I'll be switching back!
Thanks for writing this. I've been looking at the Gigabyte UltraWide IPS (M34QW) and been wondering if to go for the cheaper VA curved panel one instead.
I have had both ultra and 4k. I am now on the LG 27GN950-B. and I wont be going back. If you have the rig to push 4k, being able to see enemies in the distance with that clarity is transformative
I am really wanting 4k 32" 144hz ips, but that seems to be still a fair way off, I know some models have been announced but since then never heard them mentioned. Makes a lot of people likely going to want to go for a 4k tv instead with the hdmi 2.1 for 144hz, which honestly for a 48" I could actually see me getting (OLED, even with the risk of burn in) Great video as always :)
I have been using the G9 (super ultrawide (32:9) for a month already and i have loved every second of it. I can never go back to a 16:9 aspect ratio monitor ever. The immersion it brings and multitasking capabilities is just irreplaceable.
For an even more extended perspective, I got the samsung odyssey G9 32:9 49" back in August. While it is only 1440p vertically, it is an amazing experience for productivity (coding not editing) and browsing. I highly recommend an app called PowerToys which adds tons of ultrawide features, most notably you can designated certain areas of the screen to be their own windows so you can snap windows to that size. I found 25%-50%-25% to be the best ratio for the 49" monitor, giving me a full 27" window in the center with 2 half screens on the side for discord or an addition browser window. The pixel count is about 7/8 of 4k, so it is slightly easier to drive in games (but even more stretching near the edges in some games than 21:9). Whenever display and graphics technologies get to the point that 32:9 4k is feasible I will most likely switch to that for no compromises. In summation the 32:9 has the same pros and cons as the 21:9 but even more so.
One thing to look out for if you have a 32" monitor, going Ultrawide will actually lose you a huge amount of vertical screen space, even with a 38" display. 35" and 34" monitors are actually *smaller* in total screen area than a 32" monitor due to the amount of vertical space you're giving up.
Man, there were some... interesting notes here for the ultrawide. Somehow it felt slower than the 4K144Hz display despite being at the same refresh rate? It's more than likely because the ultrawide you picked is not LG's UltraGear and therefore has a slower pixel response time. The best gaming ultrawide at the moment is actually their 34GN850B whose stats exceed the 4K 144Hz monitor here, while also costing less. The warping at the edges of the screen just means you have the FOV turned up way too high. One of the things ultrawide users tell newcomers is they often don't need to raise FOV very much in games. Why? Because you're already seeing significantly more than 16:9, our default is something like 90 Hor+ FoV on a 16:9, and cracking that up to your old 100 or 110 will lead to severe cylindrical perspective warping.
As an owner of a 28" 4K monitor, let me make something clear to all would-be buyers. Were I buying again, with a choice between these two monitors, I would get the ultrawide. 4K at 27" needs to be upscaled and makes productivity no better than a non-wide 2K monitor. 4K minimum size you want is 32" - preferably 37" to 43". The ultrawide is the better option here by far. Less pixels so easier to drive, but doesn't need to be upscaled in Windows, so much better for productivity work.
I think a good comparison to include would also be a 4k monitor the same width as the ultrawide, to see how much difference there is on a screen thats in the same size "class" but with larger vertical space.
Ultrawide, ultrawide, ultrawide. It is such an experience, not only for gaming but browsing, movies, workloads etc.. I will never, ever go back to dual monitors or other than UW.
@@Uryendel DAMN YOU'RE SLOW!!! 😂😂😂 16:9 content doesn't get cropped in height on a 21:9 display. You simply get black bars on the left and right sides. That's like someone saying that 21:9 video gets cropped on the sides when viewed on a 16:9 display. You simply get black bars on the top and bottom to fit the image on the smaller aspect ratio. 😂😂😂
Personally, the no brainer for me is the ultra wide, and that’s what I picked. So far it’s treated me very well. But here’s why: 1. I have a high end GPU, letting me run a large screen at a high resolution and frame rate. 2. While it’s not 4K, you can get up to 1600p which is still very good and that’s where it starts getting hard to see pixels. 3. It’s great for story games and work. Plus if you don’t want all that screen, you can always turn down the aspect ratio in games. (Note: I mainly chose it for work)
Shit ive grown to like my ultrawide for productivity reasons, dont even use mine for my job but browsing multiple websites in full view is the most amazing thing
I've been considering an ultrawide to take over as my main display, but I'm not sure where I'd move my secondary monitor to. Putting it angled down on top of the UW feels like it'd be to high for everyday use / bad for my neck long term. It has me sort of leaning toward a smaller 4k, that way I can keep the same side-by-side orientation my 27"/24" screens are in... but ultrawides look like a really cool experience...
Due to COVID I upgraded from a 16:9 to an ultrawide to help with screen real estate in doing my work. Now that I have tasted the sweet nectar of ultrawide 16:9 doesn’t cut it anymore if even in 4K.
I got an ultra wide and returned it i couldnt get used to it but neither did i get 4k i still prefer 2k and really high refresh rate and i have a 3090 so 4k would be no problem
I keep swapping back and forth. Ultra wide is great for the immersion but then 4K really brings out the details in the game. Need ultra wide with the pixel density of 4K and a GPU that can push it.
I was really expecting a regular video with different games and that's it but I was impressed with what you brought to this video. Amazing work like always bro!
I want a big 4k screen and if I want ultra wide, I can make a custom resolution.

This was my original plan but sadly the CX is bit too much for my occasional PC use nowadays. But it _would_ look soooo good on my desk.. or rather, on my wall!
Ultrawide (3440x1440) is great for gaming but be aware not all games support it and it can be surprising which titles do and do not support it, for example Unreal Tournament 1999 *_does_* support it but the remastered Command & Conquer *_does not._* And although this is off topic, 4k OLED for movies all day... Its a no brainer.
Great stuff! I had been thinking of swapping my main gaming monitor for an UW, but based on this I'll most probably keep with dual 16:9 😉 If I might ask, a deep dive into streaming and recording with a Ryzen 5900x + rtx3080 with nvenc vs rx6800xt with software encoding would be veery much appreciated
I’ve been gaming on 21 x 9 1440 P 4 three years now and I will never go back. Having that much extra screen real estate and a graphics card like a 3080ti to power it I know it will be amazing for a while and it’s truly the closest thing to wearing a VR headset one gaming. That the sides being stretched aren’t as bad and are barely noticeable because if you’re staring straight at the screen like you should be, it just looks like you’re peripheral vision.
@@mrsundaymorning I thought you were having a go. I get over 200FPS in most games. There is very little difference pixel wise between 21:9 compared to 21:9.
@@Steve30x are you playing on 1080p? I am using ultrawide for 3 years also. X34A monitor + 1080ti. It was struggling to run more than 100 FPS for most triple-A games with high settings on 2K.

On ultrawide for about 6 years, gaming and watching movies in 21:9 is a blast!

Its no way near as wide though. Remember screen sizes are measured horizontally.
I've had the Acer Predator X34 for the last 4+ years and when the Predator X35 came out this year I upgraded to it. I am mostly a singleplayer game type guy, RPGs and stuff, usually works out well. Every once in a while there's an issue but usually there's a community workaround pretty quick and sometimes the devs even come in later and fix it.

@LIAM GLANVILLE That depends on the budget you're operating under, whether you're interested in experiencing games and other media at 21:9, etc...
I prefer Ultrawide because it changes up how you play and experience the game, while 4k is just a sharper 1080p image with the same aspect ratio. For the budget, the better comparison IMHO is 34" 1440p UW vs 27" 1440p 16:9.
The 1600p is what sets this ultra wide apart from the 34" though.
Just what I needed been thinking about this for a while now.
Thank you for making this video as I’m pretty set on the 4K monitor now
I love my ultrawide and I've had it for several years now...I don't think I'll ever go back. Gaming on it is fantastic.
Absolutely love my LG27GN950. I use it every day and absolutely love it. It's perfect paired with my 5900x and RTX 3080
I went 27" 1440p 16:9 --> 34" 1440p 21:9 --> 27" 4K 16:9 (all 120/144Hz) and I'm personally happier with the smaller, higher pixel density display, but that's because I like my screen to be sharp during non-gaming as well.
this was my exact journey. I have the ultra wide mounted on the wall over my 4k. I just love gaming on 16:9
perfect timing on the video! i've just gone through both UW (34gn850) and 4k (27gn950) and i decided on the 4k. i found UW to be a bit too big of a screen because i do like to sit relatively close to my display. and i've already got a 240hz monitor for competitive gaming so my 4k display is just for casual, single player experience. great video, and not enough of these UW vs 4k reviews on YT
I cant even use 16:9 after getting an ultrawide
Just feels claustrophobic
Just increase the size of your monitor
For example, the LG CX 55" will definitely feel more immersive than an ultrawide 38"
It's actually the size of the panel which makes games feel better and the more your view is taken by the monitor, the better will be your feeling
Also, adjust FOV.

There's no way I will go back to 16:9 from ultrawide monitors :)
21:9 is just so elevated. I can't go back. Even on a big 4k gaming tv, it still feels too restrictive.

Ultrawide = no good for compet games like Valorant
= good for open world games

Non-ultrawide = Good for everything, but you can't multi-task.
Nope. Not difficult. ULTRAWIIIIIIIIIDE!
Why would you get an ultrawide when you could get a 4k display with the same width?

Maybe a dip of like 10 frames max, but it was unnoticable on a 2080 Ti, while I assume I would see a bigger dip going a 4k. Just food for thought for those thinking that an ultrawide would be a performance dip. For me its ultwawide, had it for about 4 years now, theres no going back, dont think i could ever go back to 16:9 movies and browsing etc, the immersive single player games are insane.
The only upside of 16:9 is the competitive gaming where it doesnt scale, in cs go for example i get an advantage in 21:9 coz it scales perfectly, but valorant does not sadly.

ultrawide 1440p, no brainer.
And of course I get more frames as I’m pushing 4 million less pixels!
Makes a lot of people likely going to want to go for a 4k tv instead with the hdmi 2.1 for 144hz, which honestly for a 48" I could actually see me getting (OLED, even with the risk of burn in)
Great video as always :)
I have been using the G9 (super ultrawide (32:9) for a month already and i have loved every second of it. I can never go back to a 16:9 aspect ratio monitor ever. The immersion it brings and multitasking capabilities is just irreplaceable.
Many thanks for the insight
My guy's traps are growing as fast as his sub count
So what you're saying is for someone to make an ultra-wide, high refresh rate 4k monitor? I like you're thinking
No gpu could run 5120x2160 resolution above 20fps
Isn't there already somethinh like this from Asus? I think Linus once tested that out and it was like 2500 bucks lol
I like using a 3840x1620 resolution on my LG C9. Best of both worlds and oled
Give it some time and we WILL see Ultrawide 2160p. It'll be about 33% harder to run than 4K, but its pixel density will be wild.
@@RicochetForce It's already here. LG34WK95-U. It's 60Hz though, but we'll have to wait for DP2.0 to fix that.
It's 2020 and am still playing Witcher 3, what a game.
Nothin wrong with that! Deserves multiple play throughs
I will never, ever go back to dual monitors or other than UW.
except no, 21/9 is not 16/9 with extra space but 16/9 cropped in height...
@@Uryendel Incorrect
@@Uryendel do you realize that the 9 in 16/9 means height? So 21 / 9 means the same height and extra space
@@EndstyleGG no, that's a ratio, 16/9 = 21/11,8
@@Uryendel DAMN YOU'RE SLOW!!! 😂😂😂
16:9 content doesn't get cropped in height on a 21:9 display.
But here’s why:
(Note: I mainly chose it for work)
I’m getting a 48” LG CX as soon as I can get my hands on a 3080.
I wanted to wait to get a 3080 before getting the LG CX 48, but I ended up selling my 60" 4K LED TV so bought the LG CX. 12 day wait time though :(
@@aashilr they are in stock locally where I live and they price match amazon :)
im thinking the same, but not sure how the pixel density will go using it as a gaming monitor relatively close up. that OLED HDR just too good though.
What did you end up doing? I'm thinking the same thing
Due to COVID I upgraded from a 16:9 to an ultrawide to help with screen real estate in doing my work. Now that I have tasted the sweet nectar of ultrawide 16:9 doesn’t cut it anymore if even in 4K.
Once I go ultrawide I can never go back. It really is one of those PC master race perks you don't get on consoles.
Ultrawide all the way for games like Assassins' creed and Red dead. I also use 16:9 for shooters sometimes but ultrawide is daily driver!
YO ALI, you have to do a video on your amazing lighting skills!
I had been thinking of swapping my main gaming monitor for an UW, but based on this I'll most probably keep with dual 16:9 😉
If I might ask, a deep dive into streaming and recording with a Ryzen 5900x + rtx3080 with nvenc vs rx6800xt with software encoding would be veery much appreciated
trust me don't get a ultra wide most games don't work properly with it.
@@TylerMBuller12 if you count every game ever made then sure...
The answer is ultra wide hands down, for me at least. As an avid WoW player and a fan of RPGs in general I love my Acer x34 👍

I've been 21:9 gaming with three years and it would be difficult to go back to 16:9 again.
So you enjoy gaming below 100 fps in ultrawide?
@@mrsundaymorning what is it to you? You play games the way you enjoy to play them. I'll play games the way I enjoy to play them.
@@Steve30x Just wondering if you rather play ultrawide below 100hz or 16:9 at a higher frame rate. Why so defensive? lol
Nowadays I switch to 2560x1440 with these black bars to play games. So Ii was just wondering whether you rather have higher fps or not. Plus there is no monitor above 100hz for ultrawide 3 years ago.
I love my new 34; inch GP83A - B 160hz with Overclocking on monitor. I for an adjustable Vesa mount and am sooo happy with the amazing capabilities and ease of use.
