You sold me on the rotary! Just bought a Harbor Freight Hercules cordless Rotary Polisher. It was FREE with the purchase of two 5AH batteries and since I wanted the batteries.... It is $99 tool only. Used it today - it is really great, very smooth, not heavy and nicely balanced. I will be replacing the grease like Apex Detail always does - LOL!
I polished and coated wife’s blue print Highlander using 8+3 year stack. The metallic paint looks like it should have from factory. Amazing difference in look but slickness is crazy. Totally agree on the white paint. These coatings are very easy to apply as I'm a novice and managed to do both my truck and wife's SUV without issue.
@@hamsbeach I did. I used their yellow pads and gold standard polish. Didn't have the pad washer but used a bucket with grit guards filled with rinse less wash. Used their panel prep and coatings. Worked great.

The key to putting a ceramic coating on is lighting. Obviously there are other things lol, but lighting is huge. I've only did it a couple times. The first time I did it outside because I don't have a bunch of lights in my garage. And I missed a bunch of stuff. You can think you have everything leveled down and wiped off, then the next thing you know you find five or six places you need to fix. It was so frustrating. Doing it in a garage with all of those lights above would be heaven lol. Excellent Video is always.

I think the iron remover test should’ve been done after the wash.. otherwise you’re just testing normal metallic brake dust that would’ve washed off during the normal wash. Just a thought
To avoid the high spots and drips/running you on the edges I have a solution. What I do is start with the circular spreading in the middle when you've just loaded up the applicator. That way you're not doing the edges when the applicator is its most saturated. Otherwise you tend to get that running. That way you can just keep working in circles right up to your edges spreading outward!
I just purchase a new truck and I am going to follow your tips, I don't need a polisher that's a good thing all by hand is the way I like it. thanks for your video . Hello from Vancouver Canada.👍
In the video above, you did NOT include a spot remover stage in preparing the car for the ceramic coating. Yet I watched an other DIY Detail video yesterday about a simple process of ceramic coating a new Suburu which DID include a spot remover stage to clean out the pores of the paintwork. Is the spot remover stage an optional one for ceramic coating a new car with say less than 100 miles on it? Could you please clarify? Thanks again for all these great videos!
Many thanks, Nick. I will add it to the process for ceramic coating my new Lexus this Spring. I would need the DIY Spot Remover anyway for the annual maintenance next year anyway.@@diydetailofficial
Hi just used a clay met , then wax my car with turtle ceramic wax and used a damp towel then clean microfiber towels and the shine is insane thank for the heads up
Have a new car 2 months old. Applied spray ceramic coatings like McGuires and Turtle wax along with a Iron wheel cleaner during the first 3 weeks of owner ship. There is not one scratch or swirl mark on the paint. Lots of orange peal but show me a new car that is not full of orange peal. Rather have an extra layer of clear coat than a paint corrected car. I live in Florida so sun use of products that don't like sun are not worth it. My question is I am happy with my car the way it is. Use of polishes and buffing in the past have always resulted in disaster. I keep my cars a long time. So whats the best way to just keep my car the way it is. I use a foamer and two buck method and spray rinse off products. Never heard of decontamination a new car until I started watching detail videos although it makes a lot of sense. I would image less than 5% of new car owners have their paint decontaminated. So whats the best way to keep the car just the way it is.
The gloss is really dripping gloss and looks fantastic. I work by myself and on white paint the three towel method is good insurance. I grew up with station wagons and sitting in the back seat facing the car behind you was always fun when riding with your friends.
Love the advice and my next new car will go from delivery to garage for DIY Ceramic coat! Do you prefer IS or Rinseless for this wash and decontamination?
I do enjoy y'all videos, and you guys do put out some very positive information for detailing, but the decontamination towl is essentially a clay bar in a towl form, the only difference is the clay holds onto all the deposits from the paint. Juat call it a clay bar towl haha
They are very different. The Perforated Synthetic Decontamination Towel is a polymeric material that contains no abrasives. Clay bars use abrasives to do the job.
One thing that I learnt from mistake was about coating windows. I will make sure rolling down the window a bit when leveling. You don’t want to see high spot boxing your windows a week after.

Compared to my Griot's Garage synthetic clay the towel doesn't remove anything and is more difficult to use. By the way, is the ceramic coating applied to the entire car (window glass, trim, plastic)? In the video, I don't remember if it was applied to other parts other than the panels?
I have my dream car coming in next week (C8). Also have your ceramic kit. Should I trust dealership to clean car or should I ask them to leave it alone??
I just did the 8year ceramic coating and it’s easy and amazing. Now I need to wash it. Rinseless wash with or without the ceramic gloss? Is ceramic gloss a product to use on ceramic coatings and or is there something better after the rinseless?
A question, if you polished before applying ceramic would there have been a higher gloss ? Good luck in your new location, waiting to see what it looks like when your finished !!
Interior ceramic- is that water based? Also, if you have a new car, what are your thoughts about just hand polishing after the necessary decon just to give a micron scale surface to allow the ceramic coating just to grab onto to give you slightly more longevity?
Thanks for the awesome videos! Going to apply the five year coating soon on my new car. I do have some water spots in front plastic and windshield from last week’s wash. Great video as usual, learning alot from you guys. Some guys say you must polish vehicle before applying coating, but you guys show that its not true. It can be apply without polishing. Curious, what would be that average cost for this service without polishing?
Applying in circular motion is a bad way because you will miss a spot. It has to be applied straight accross and straight down over lapping. In this way you avoid missing coating a spot.
@@diydetailofficial nope. you are wrong. it will never be more efficient that square application. Try to draw 4 overlapping circles, either you will use too much in some parts or miss a part if you circle is not consistent.
Hi, thanks for these very informative videos. One question, do you clean and coat the paint protection film like the other surfaces or treat it differently. Oops, one more, ideally would yu apply the film after the ceramic?
Spyker use iron remover on wheels after you wash them to maximize iron removing power from the chemical. I coat two panels at a time then go bsck level them back to back then coat another two panels. I also two coats using less coating eacg application and them i don't worry about having leftover coating two light coats are better than 1 thick coat. Love your other coating its soo glossy
After you wash the vehicle “truck, car, etc.” can you polish first and then go in with the ceramic or graphene ? It’s a new truck around 500 miles drivenup from Virginia
Thank you! Do you do ceramic coating on the inside as well (infotainment screen, piano black areas, etc)? How many bottle(s) do I need on a mid size SUV (Honda Pilot)? Thank you!
They have a 16oz bottle with a spray trigger that's called interior ceramic. It's safe on all interior surfaces including infotainment screens. Just don't use it on the interior windows as it can fog up. It's an awesome product and one bottle will coat multiple vehicle interiors.
I have one question. Do new cars come with some type of coating on that will need to be stripped prior to adding a coating? It's a metallic silver Honda civic.
would you recommend a quick hand polish if i am on a budget and have minor imperfections? i also dont want to risk removing too much clear coat from polishing, the scratches and such are barely noticable anyways, only under certain lighting
You can hand polish but it is very time consuming and results aren’t usually super great. Better idea would be to invest in a cheap palm sander for $20, then you can machine polish with better results and less strain on your body
The geometric shape you use makes no difference to the coating. The goal is to evenly distribute it on the paint. We prefer circular motions because it reduces the chance of high spots.
Thanks for the reply. I really thought that there was some other reason for the crisscross pattern other than proper coverage, but I can see your excellent point regarding the reduction of high spots with the circular motion.@@diydetailofficial
Hey what if you have to remove water spots? Is this it- wash car, dry it, re soak and do clay process, then use water spot remover, then polish paint, then apply ceramic?
So say i wanted to apply a second layer or add the 3 year on top of this how long will i wait between the two layers? Also do you guys plan on adding more products to Amazon?
If wanting to stack the 3 year on top of our 5 or 8 year coating it has to be done between 2 and 8 hours after the first application. To add a second layer of the same product, there’s really no need, but give it at least 24 hours. More products coming to Amazon soon.
@@diydetailofficial ahh got it! I think this might make a great video. Showing off shop set up etc. I'm sure it's been done, but you guys explain things well.
If you finish your decon wash and dry the car and see some left over orange spots, how do you handle that? Iron remover on a microfiber or something else?
You’re just going to want to re wet the panel with Rinseless Wash quickly (easy, just grab your sponge from bucket) and do same process on towel(one spray)/panel (one spray) and no pressure until the orange spots go away
Do you sell that buffing towel (after using the leveling towel) in your website? I see Korean plush buffing towels and Twist towel (out of stock) in your website. Which one should I get as a buffing towel? Thanks!
Are you referring to Jerry(Trooper, The Boys in the Bright White Sports Car)? I think I was able to find the song you were referencing, I can’t say I remember ever hearing that on the radio, though…
Don't remember that on air here in the States. Either not big here, or it wasn't played on the stations my parents listened to. Credit the all mighty Google...
Question @diydetailofficial let say its brand new and u just wanna pass it by with polishing even its brand new, what can you recommend a polisher/pad/and ways to do it? Please make a video of it - beginner here. I just wanna polish it with one step to remove such small scratches before putting a ceramic. Thank you
Since you guys didn’t polish this car because it was new and you were applying the 8yr coating. Can I do the same with the C6? I was looking at doing the 5yr + 3 stack or the C6 because the C6s hydrophobics. Thank you for the video guys!
@@diydetailofficial So to be be clear, I dont have to polish? I see in a lot of videos you guys polish with AP. Can I use a panel prep and wipe instead for HydroLite or is AP absolutely necessary?
I was told that I had to wait 6 weeks before I could have my brand-new car coated, as the paint on new cars hasn't cured. It still has chemicals that are oozing out of it. When my bonnet was damaged and needed to be resprayed, I needed to wait again before the coating could be re-applied.
What washer tips do you normally use on your foam rinse? Standard wide 40 degree or is a 25 degree better for taking off any bugs or dirt? How about the end of contact wash rinse off?
@@diydetailofficialthank you, and is it a major deal if the microfibre lints at all pre ceramic coating, I’ve had the odd random issue with lint on rare occasion!
It has been included whenever i purchase. However I don't use it as I find it slips around on my hand too much. I only use a block and suede towel. Much better use of product. A bottle goes further.
Thanks for the great videos Yvan and Nick. Question about POST-graphene coating. 1) is graphene dust and bug and bird droppings repellent ? 2) Can I apply a spray for gloss ( eg bead maker) or Turtle Wax 53837 Hybrid Solutions Pure Shine Detailer Misting Spray after graphene coating or should I wait for sometime. I want to apply this to get gloss but also to avoid dirt and bugs/bird drop . ?
If you used DIY Detail 3 year Ceramic/Graphene coating, yes it provides chemical resistance to help prevent bug/bird bomb etching. Wait at least a week before using any form of topper( it’s really not needed).
Hey lads, whats the best way to coat the windows ? If you roll it down slightly you can get the top edge. But then how do u get the rest of the glass without affecting the top section by rolling it back up? Thx how long would the coating last on windows with all that abrasion when they go up and down ?
Roll down, do the top of the window, coat the rest of the car. When you’re finished coating the rest of the car, put the windows up, and finish by coating the rest of the window.
@@diydetailofficialthanks. What about durability on windows? What is a realistic period with the 3 5 and 8 year coatings on windows with all that abrasion when opening and closing? Would we only see a fraction of durability? Thx
I got a new 2024 Chevy Camaro Panther collectors edition it has black metallic tri coat paint on it. I want to ceramic coat it, would you polish it first
How do your coatings compare to strict glass coatings like GTechniq G1 on windshields as far as beading at lower speeds and abrasion resistance from wiper blades is concerned? Is there added bonding agents in glass specific coatings?

Spyker use iron remover on wheels after you wash them to maximize iron removing power from the chemical. I coat two panels at a time then go bsck level them back to back then coat another two panels. I also two coats using less coating eacg application and them i don't worry about having leftover coating two light coats are better than 1 thick coat. Love your other coating its soo glossy
Thanks for the tip!
After you wash the vehicle “truck, car, etc.” can you polish first and then go in with the ceramic or graphene ? It’s a new truck around 500 miles drivenup from Virginia
Yes, polishing is best.
Easy way to coat a vehicle. New vehicles are great and way easier to coat. Especially something very prestine
We agree!
ancient detailer here. how many home diy'ers have an air hose to plug into?
Not many, but it’s growing
Only one bottle, for interior surfaces we have our DIY Detail Interior Ceramic.
Thank you so much!!
@@diydetailofficialPlease, do a video with the DIY interior ceramic coating. That would be great! Thank you!!
Our pleasure, when you’re done please post your results in our Facebook group bit.ly/DIYDetailFacebookGroup
Have you done an actual 8 year trial to attain its effect ability to last that long . What tests have you done 🤔

I have one question. Do new cars come with some type of coating on that will need to be stripped prior to adding a coating? It's a metallic silver Honda civic.
Not from the factory, but occasionally dealers will use sealants, best to act as if it has something in your prep.
would you recommend a quick hand polish if i am on a budget and have minor imperfections? i also dont want to risk removing too much clear coat from polishing, the scratches and such are barely noticable anyways, only under certain lighting
You can hand polish but it is very time consuming and results aren’t usually super great. Better idea would be to invest in a cheap palm sander for $20, then you can machine polish with better results and less strain on your body
Excellent vid. So with ALL coatings should you generally use a circular motion as opposed to a crisscross pattern?
The geometric shape you use makes no difference to the coating. The goal is to evenly distribute it on the paint. We prefer circular motions because it reduces the chance of high spots.
Thanks for the reply. I really thought that there was some other reason for the crisscross pattern other than proper coverage, but I can see your excellent point regarding the reduction of high spots with the circular motion.@@diydetailofficial
Thank you for the question
Am sure its been asked before but what's the cure time for the 3 year coating? How many days before contact with water?
You can drive it after 1 hour of curing. Wait a week to wash, then feel free to use Ceramic Gloss😊
Hey what if you have to remove water spots? Is this it- wash car, dry it, re soak and do clay process, then use water spot remover, then polish paint, then apply ceramic?
Correct
Where do you get your buckets, they are not on your website?
Love the videoes very helpful
They get them from their local restaurant supply store.
Thank you, they are from a local restaurant supply
So say i wanted to apply a second layer or add the 3 year on top of this how long will i wait between the two layers? Also do you guys plan on adding more products to Amazon?
If wanting to stack the 3 year on top of our 5 or 8 year coating it has to be done between 2 and 8 hours after the first application. To add a second layer of the same product, there’s really no need, but give it at least 24 hours.
More products coming to Amazon soon.
What if this new vehicle came with a 1 year dealer installed coating. Would you have to polish before installing the DIY coating?
Yes, polishing will remove it.
Just curious, how cold can it be and still do a paint correction and ceramic coating? The reason I’m asking is that I don’t have a heated garage.
50f, 40 at a bare minimum
@@diydetailofficial Thank You!!
I can't wait to do the G63 Black! It shouldn't take that long considering how fast you guys did this one!

Is the Stash and Mullet coming back? 70's and 80's are coming back. good video
No it’s thankfully gone for good
How does the water drain in your shop? Would love a vid showing the shop set up.
We no longer have that shop, but it had drains under the tiles
@@diydetailofficial ahh got it! I think this might make a great video. Showing off shop set up etc. I'm sure it's been done, but you guys explain things well.
If you finish your decon wash and dry the car and see some left over orange spots, how do you handle that? Iron remover on a microfiber or something else?
You’re just going to want to re wet the panel with Rinseless Wash quickly (easy, just grab your sponge from bucket) and do same process on towel(one spray)/panel (one spray) and no pressure until the orange spots go away
@@diydetailofficial thanks!
Do you sell that buffing towel (after using the leveling towel) in your website? I see Korean plush buffing towels and Twist towel (out of stock) in your website. Which one should I get as a buffing towel? Thanks!
The black buffing towel
You guys are awesome! Thank you !!
Thank you.
Are you referring to Jerry(Trooper, The Boys in the Bright White Sports Car)? I think I was able to find the song you were referencing, I can’t say I remember ever hearing that on the radio, though…
Correct, in Canada it played often in 76/77
Don't remember that on air here in the States. Either not big here, or it wasn't played on the stations my parents listened to.
Credit the all mighty Google...
Hopefully you found a new song to add to your playlist
How long after applying ceramic 8y or c6 lite before it’s okay to drive? And how long before it can get rained on? Thank you!
1 hour for both
What polish can you use before adding the ceramic coating ?
Gold Standard Polish: bit.ly/GoldStandardPolish
Hi I'm new to detailing my car, can you get you products in the UK
Yes diydetail.com/pages/distributors
I a 10 year old Accord, parked in sun all these years. Want to Ceramic/Graphine can you make a video for that please
We have many videos ceramic coating older cars.

Yes you can!
@@diydetailofficial So to be be clear, I dont have to polish? I see in a lot of videos you guys polish with AP. Can I use a panel prep and wipe instead for HydroLite or is AP absolutely necessary?
You will get the best results using C6 Ceramics Adhesion Promoter Polish (APP)
Would 1 week be enough wait time to wash my car for the first time after applying your 5 year ceramic?
Yes, absolutely
I was told that I had to wait 6 weeks before I could have my brand-new car coated, as the paint on new cars hasn't cured. It still has chemicals that are oozing out of it. When my bonnet was damaged and needed to be resprayed, I needed to wait again before the coating could be re-applied.
That’s an old wives tail. Dealerships apply protection on new cars every day.
How did you get a Lexus out the door with all that dust on it? They would detail it before delivery…
Not if the owner asked them too
What washer tips do you normally use on your foam rinse? Standard wide 40 degree or is a 25 degree better for taking off any bugs or dirt?
How about the end of contact wash rinse off?
We generally use a 25 degree tip
For panel prep, short nap or plush MF? I have a mixture of rag company towels and going to try use your ceramic this weekend!
Short nap
@@diydetailofficialthank you, and is it a major deal if the microfibre lints at all pre ceramic coating, I’ve had the odd random issue with lint on rare occasion!
No problem
What is best way to check for iron contamination on dark paint? Its very easy on white paint😊
Spray on the rear license plate
I thought I heard Yvan say in another video that the red sponge applicator is included when you purchase a ceramic coating. Is that right?
It has been included whenever i purchase. However I don't use it as I find it slips around on my hand too much. I only use a block and suede towel. Much better use of product. A bottle goes further.
That's correct! A bottle of coating comes with one red foam applicator
@@rooboy99 thanks
@@diydetailofficial thank you
Why circular when all the others I have seen do a cross hatch ? When applying
Circular uses less product, is easier on you, and reduces possibility of high spots
@@diydetailofficial Thanks
Can the foam applicator be re-used? What about the buffing towels?
Yes, once done using, dunk in your wash bucket 15-30 mins
Thx
Durability is definitely a direct correlation with abrasion. It’s difficult to express a durability in this case.
I got a new 2024 Chevy Camaro Panther collectors edition it has black metallic tri coat paint on it. I want to ceramic coat it, would you polish it first
If you like the paint the way it is, and the dealership didn’t put anything on it, then you’re good.
@@diydetailofficial I put some ceramic spray on it, so I guess I should lightly polish it off
Hey mate, what is the brand of your scissor lift ? :) ty!
We don’t have one.
How do your coatings compare to strict glass coatings like GTechniq G1 on windshields as far as beading at lower speeds and abrasion resistance from wiper blades is concerned? Is there added bonding agents in glass specific coatings?
There’s very little difference if any.
@@diydetailofficialis there any special steps to do to ceramic coat windows? Like decon steps? For example polishing the glass or anything?
Ideally clay and polish.
