This is the best of the many online interviews I’ve seen of Dr. Lustig. The interviewer doesn’t trample over him like so many others do. He instead asks pointed questions that allow Dr. Lustig to fully expound on the wide range of his ideas while clarifying matters for the viewer. It is notable for its scope, depth, and pace. Kudos.

There is a remedy, well, there are two remedies. The holistic approach, which is diet, exercise, herbs and supplements, fasting, 😮saunas and cold plunges, etc.
The platinum approach is plasma exchange, which can even remove plastics. But it costs about as much as a new car.
In either case, you work to reduce your exposures by removing all unnecessary chemicals from your home, clean with baking soda and vinegar; get a water filter for your kitchen….cut down on plastic containers for food storage, get bags that aren’t plastic.
All of us should do everything we can to clean up our own space and share information about the problem.
    Education is essential.

@ 44:00 talking about the LDL, My lipids improved dramatically after cutting carbs and replacing them with healthy fats (including saturated ones)
True, my LDL is high now, but mostly type A, compared to type B I’ve had before. And I’m insulin sensitive now, compared to insulin resistant before.
I run a Labcorp NMR blood test every so often to measure all of this. Oh and I lost weight too.

Like AA I have to stand up introduce myself and say “I am a sugar addict” 71 years now! I have listened to Dr. Lustig several times working on absorbing the science. One question is he keeps talking about “ultra processed food” What about processed food? Is there a distinction he should be defining? What about phytoestrogens in soy aka tofu…Are they obesogens, breast developers?
Meanwhile I need to memorize and fully understand these fascinating metabolic mechanistic pathways and make the change as much as I can! Its righteous work and I love these interviews with him😅

@@SharoPeikof Of course, my lightbulb is on bright, making the changes to lower insulin. I get single ingredient food low processed. My question is around frozen organic dinners in supermarket like amys or others that are mixed vegetables, tofu, cheese, chicken. I wanted to know if HE considers them “Ultra processed foods” as opposed to McD’s fast foods? Wished he would have discussed range of processed foods if any acceptable, or if HE feels only whole unprocessed foods Good 👍 luck

When I tell people that in my quest to become more metabolically healthy, I realized that fructose was one of the substances that was pushing me down the road to more and more pathology. Now I only consume sparing amounts of strawberries and blueberries. My over consumption of watermelons, melons, oranges, apples, dried raisins and cranberries etc are over. Thank God, I stumbled on low carb / ketogenic pathways when I did.

It's never ever been about calories. You cannot eat heat energy! It's all about Mass in mass out. Calories are mass less, and is only a term pertaining to closed systems. Humans are open systems. it has nothing at all to with calories...nothing at all. It's all about MASS IN MASS OUT...make sure you understand this....
Take a litre of boiling water and measure it on a set of scales...record its weight. Then let it cool down to room temp say 20 degrees celcius. Record its weight.
You will see that its weight has not changed yet its temp has by 80 degrees.
Therefore its lost 80kcal but kept its weight....it proves that calories have nothing to do with weight.
Secondly if you use the figures for protein, carbs and fat in terms of kcal
    1gm of carb is 4.2kcal
    1gm of protein is 4.2kcal
    1gm of fat is 9kcal
But swapping it around you get
    1kcal of carbs is 0.25gm
    1kcal of protein is 0.25gm
    1kcal of fat is 0.11gm
This explains why Low carb effectively works
    Why?
If you are eg on a 2500 kcal daily intake using the "calorie" model on both low carb high fat and high carb low fat YOU ARE TAKING IN LESS MASS by swapping carbs for fat....so you will lose body fat. So Its MASS not CALORIES that matters...I hope you are clear on this. Obviously there are many other factors at play like insulin and grehlin among others but from the food intake perspective its MASS at play not CALORIES.
Each time we breathe out, we are releasing MASS into atmosphere along with water, tears, sweat, ketones, etc...poo..all have MASS.

I am very diligent about pure unadulterated olive and avocado oils. I buy my oil from sources where I can return them and receive a refund if I find they are not pure. Once I purchase them, I pour about a half cup into a glass jar and place it in the refrigerator. If the oil remains liquified in 24 to 48 hours, it has been adulterated. I buy only extra virgin and first cold pressed. Unfiltered is acceptable but I prefer filtered. I buy many oil products from COSTCO because they vet their vendors and keep them honest by testing their oil content regularly. I also will call the manufacturer of the product and quiz them on their resources and processing techniques. But the refrigerator test is my best analysis for unadulterated avocado or EVOO. Hope this info helps.

Hypothesis: (1) Omega-6 fats are essential for humans in small amounts --> (2) Omega-6 fats were somewhat rare and/or seasonal in the diet 200+ years ago --> (3) Humans adapted by avoiding using Omega-6 fats as fuel, to preserve the valuable resource --> (4) Humans adapted further to store nearly all Omega-6 fats above the small required amount in body fat as a reserve source in times of shortage. The combination of hidden added factory seed oils and high fructose via added sugars, at 50% of the diet, seems to explain obesity for basically everyone who eats mostly processed food.

I have an issue here. My Total choles=200 mg/dl (more like 175 average of 20 yrs) , LDL=130mg/dL, Trig=47 mg, HDL~50 mg/dL. VLDL ~10 to 15 mg/dL all 20 yrs. Mostly veggie+oils+some dairy (very less trans all 20 yrs), D2M for 20 yrs but always A1C of 6 to 6.2%. NO MEAT, Why I have a CAC score of 3000 now? is it just the omega 6? I think most DOCS don't have any clue under what conditions, PLAQUE is formed in arteries other than in extreme conditions. I can't be considered as extreme under any circumstances. BMI always 23-21, BP 120/80 for ever.

Maybe carbs. Maybe not enough MK-4 given your diet

Suggest MK-4 MK-7 the western price foundation. And getting into actual ketosis with glucose Leone ratio less than 2 at least a couple of days a week based on what our ancestors likely did.

The saturated fat you didn't talk about was coconut. I'm confused by what I read and would have valued Dr Lustig's opinion on this

    • @MindAndMatter
      @MindAndMatter  6 місяців тому

Coconut oil apparently has a lot of medium-chain saturated fatty acids compared to other sources of saturated fatty acids. These may have different effects on everything from cognition to lipid profiles compared to longer-chain SFAs. Here's one paper on the subject: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7766932/

"Most studies discovered an association with increased risk of CVD and long-chain saturated fatty acid intake, as well as a neutral (potentially beneficial) association with short- and medium-chain saturated fatty acids."

There is no mention of choline and leucine in red meat and their role in CVD. That's the reason red meat is an undesirable food. There is also no mention of vegetable protein and if its better than animal protein. Perhaps that can be a follow up video on the missing topics.

    • @MindAndMatter
      @MindAndMatter  6 місяців тому +1

Animal protein is more absorbable and has an amino acid distribution closer to that of our tissues compared to plant protein: www.mdpi.com/2072-6643/11/8/1825
